Mrs. Joyce Taylor Mills, 72, died Oct. 11, 2000, at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday in Country Holiness Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Pugh Funeral Home.

Lester Morgan
Farifax, Va.
Lester C. Morgan, 90, died Oct. 9, 2000, at Fairfax Nursing Center.
He was born May 27, 1910, in Rowan County, a son of Norrie and Jacob Morgan. He became a resident of High Point in 1932. He was a graduate of Bowman Technical (Horological) School. He was the retired owner of Lester's Jewelers that opened in 1942, as well as the Gem Shop. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Men, Woodman of the World Society, High Point Elks No. 1155, North Carolina Watchmakers Association, Retail Jewelers of America and the High Point Exchange Club. In 1936, he married Luna 'Mona' Cates who preceded him in death. He moved to Virginia in 1999.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda Morgan of Springfield, Va. and Vicki Curby and her husband, Jon, of Columbia, Mo.; four grandchildren, Ashley Butler and her husband, Richard, of Arlington, Va., John Jennings and his wife, Lisa, of Fresno, Calif., Ann Curby of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Peter Curby of Columbia; two great-grandchildren, Daniel and Megan Butler; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Harold C. Davis Funeral Chapel, High Point, by the Rev. Mark Curtis. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery, High Point. Visitation will be 10 a.m. Saturday until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church, 512 N. Main St., High Point, N.C. 27260.

Betty Stevens
Thomasville
Mrs. Betty Carolyn Nealey Stevens, 53, of 107 Camden Woods Drive died Oct. 10, 2000, at her residence after an extended illness.
She was born Oct. 9, 1947, in Green Sea, S.C., a daughter of Hubert and Hazel Watts Nealey. She retired from Community General Hospital as a licensed practical nurse in 1997. She was a member of Westfield Baptist Church and the Adult Sunday School Class. On Dec. 20, 1969, she married the Rev. Douglas M. Stevens, who survives of the residence. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mrs. Linda Blackwell.
Also surviving are a son, Wesley Douglas Stevens of Thomasville; two sisters, Francis Moore and her husband, Arthur, of Thomasville and Rachel Thomas and her husband, Lloyd, of Green Sea; a brother, Billy Nealey and his wife, Betty, of Tabor City; her mother of Green Sea; and a granddaughter, Tiffany Stevens.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Family Funeral Care Chapel by the Rev. Elwood Faircloth and the Rev. Robert Walker. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to the Westfield Baptist Church, Building Fund, 6863 Westfield Church Road, Trinity, N.C. 27360 or to Hospice of Davidson County, 524 S. State St., Lexington, N.C. 27292.

Rufus Sturdivant
Thomasville
Rufus Palmer Sturdivant, 84, of 205 Winston St. died Oct. 10, 2000, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation For The Triad in High Point.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Brown New Calvary Baptist Church. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.
S.E. Thomas Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Ida Collins
Thomasville
Mrs. Ida Rea Beck Hill Collins, 87, of 134 Virginia Drive, Fairgrove Community, died Oct. 12, 2000, at Community General Hospital.
Graveside service will be 3:30 p.m. Friday in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
J.C. Green & Sons Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

Hallie Disher
High Point
Mrs. Hallie Higgins Disher of Piedmont Christian Home died Oct. 12, 2000, at the home.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale.

Henry Hayes
Lexington
Henry Michael Hayes, 50, of 732 Cunningham Brick Road died Oct. 12, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
He was born April 24, 1950, in Guilford County, a son of Henry Clayton and Mary Cecil Hayes. He retired from Community General Hospital, maintenance department, in 1994. On Oct. 10, 1975, he married the former Diane Clodfelter who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are two sons, Michael Kevin Hayes of Thomasville and Brian Keith Hayes of Lexington. His mother of High Point; and a brother, Jeffrey Ray Hayes of Walkertown.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Family Funeral Care Chapel, Thomasville, by the Rev. Huey Turner. Visitation will be 7-8:30 Saturday at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

Nellie Myers
Lexington
Mrs. Nellie Younts Myers, 92, of Brookstone Retirement Center died Oct. 11, 2000, at Sunbridge Nursing Home.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. today prior to the service at the funeral home.

Sharon Toney

Ms. Sharon Elaine Toney, 54, of W. 8th Avenue died at 4:48 a.m. Thursday at Lexington Memorial Hospital after declining health for two years.
Funeral will be private at a later date. Visitation will be at the residence.
Davidson Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

Larry Burwell

Larry Burwell, 65, of 360 Cedarland Drive died Oct. 14, 2000, at Community General Hospital.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Heidelberg United Church of Christ. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home.

Joe Callahan Sr.
Thomasville
Joe Douglas Callahan Sr., 57, of 132 Kendall Mill Road died Oct. 14, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Jan. 11, 1943, in Davidson County, a son of Jewel McCormick Callahan. He was an employee of Rex Plastics for 35 years and later was employed by Southern Film Extruders of High Point. He was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church and the Couples No. 2 Sunday School Class. On Sept. 6, 1963, he married the former Anna K. Conrad, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are a daughter, Linn Baity-Glascock and husband Russ of Thomasville; two sons, Joe Douglas Callahan Jr. and his wife, Pam, of Thomasville and Scott Darren Callahan and his wife, Tracy, of Conway, S.C.; a brother, Marvin Callahan of Lexington; four grandchildren, Joe D. Callahan III, Eric Callahan, Brad Baity and Luke Glascock.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Baptist Church by the Rev. Steve Livengood and the Rev. Morris Hollifield. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Family Funeral Care, Randolph Street.
Memorials may be directed to Greenwood Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 1088, Thomasville, N.C. 27360.

Cletus Darnell
High Point
Cletus Elmo Darnell, 86, died Oct. 15, 2000, at Maryfield Nursing Home.
He was born April 25, 1914, in Stokes County, a son of Willie C. and Lula Belle Moser Darnell. He was a retired employee of the U.S. Postal Service and an avid golfer.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Josephine Darnell McKnight.
Surviving are four children, Elaine Griffin of Summerfield, Deane (Gary) Mendon of Rocky Mount, Ann Patterson of High Point, Charles (Sallie) Darnell of Charlottesville, Va.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his wife, Dorothy Moore Darnell; three stepdaughters, Bunny (Ralph) Aldridge of Taylorsville, DeRee Burt of High Point, Joan (Ed) Derr of Mt. Holly; five stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Olive Baptist Church Cemetery in King by the Rev. Mark D. Mashburn, OSL. Visitation will be 7-8 tonight at Slate Funeral Home in King.
Memorials may be directed to Maryfield Nursing Home, 1315 Greensboro Road, High Point, N.C. 27260 or Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, N.C. 27262.

Frances Davis
High Point
Mrs. Frances Honbarrier Davis, 75, of 915 Croyden St. died at 6:35 a.m. Oct. 15, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital following an illness of two years.
She was born March 10, 1925, in Denton, a daughter of Robert Lee and Daisy Daniel Honbarrier. A homemaker, she had been a resident of High Point most of her life and was a graduate of High Point Central High School. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Keystone Sunday School Class and the Radiant Club. She was a member of the Auxiliary of the Salvation Army and the Dixie Traveleers of the Family Motor Coach Association. In May 1946, she married John T. Davis Jr., who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Charles (Janet) Britt of Supply; two sons, Randall Kent Davis of High Point and Daniel Keith Davis and his wife, Karen, of High Point; two sisters, Mrs. Roxie H. Workman and Mrs. Jack (Carolyn) White, both of High Point; three brothers, Archie L. Honbarrier and his wife, Louise, of High Point, Robert L. Honbarrier and his wife, Irene, of High Point and Billy G. Honbarrier of Baltimore; seven grandchildren, Randall K. Davis Jr., Dustin Davis, Jeremy Davis, Ashley Davis, Brian Davis, Kimberly and Matthew Britt.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church by Dr. William R. Slater. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The body will be at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Eastchester Drive, and will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church, 405 N. Main St., High Point, N.C. 27260.

Mrs. Magdleane Teague Goforth, 77, of 16 Goforth Drive died Oct. 15, 2000, at Community General Hospital following declining health of several years.
Memorial service will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel. Visitation will follow the service.

Vickie Gray

Ms. Vickie Cunningham Gray, 42, of 2531 Plott Hound Trail died Oct. 15, 2000, at her residence.
She was born Feb. 7, 1958, in Guilford County, a daughter of William Doyle Cunningham and Mollie Hamlet Cunningham. She was a former employee of Furnitureland South and a member of Caraway Baptist Church.
Surviving are her mother of Sophia; two daughters, Shelly Cottrell and her husband, David, of Sophia and Mollie Gray of Sophia; one sister, Araina Boggs of Asheboro; three brothers, Bill Cunningham of Wallburg, James Cunningham of Asheboro and Richard Cunningham of Greensboro; two granddaughters, Natalie and Megan Cottrell.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cumby Family Funeral Service of Archdale by the Rev. Jim Honeycutt. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of her mother, 4434 Pine Needles Lane.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Randolph County.

Burmon 'B.J.' Newkirk Greene Jr., 69, of 1019 Barbee St. died Oct. 11, 2000, at his residence.
A sister, Annie Mae Robinson, preceded him in death on June 29, 1999.
Surviving are one brother, Milford Greene of Candor; one sister, Evelyn Armstrong of Candor; three nieces, three nephews; a very special great-niece, Naquita Brewington of High Point; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Congregational United Church of Christ in Dry Creek.
Bostic Funeral Service, Candor, is in charge of arrangements.

Phil Leary, 56, of 201 Creekridge Drive died Oct. 14, 2000, at his residence.
A native of Hoboken, N.C., he was the son of Leslie V. Leary and Sara Eleanor Ivy Leary. He was married to Linda Hughes Leary. He was a graduate of Campbell University and was a salesman with Consultex Corp.
Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are three sisters, Joy Bechtold of Greensboro, Ava Hoffer of High Point and Brenda Brown of Charlotte; one brother, Leslie Carroll Leary of Atlanta; six nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel by the Rev. Bob Morgan. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

William Odell Lewis, 69, of Farlow Davis Drive died Oct. 14, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Jan. 16, 1931, in Horry County, S.C., a son of William Henry and Beatrice Fowler Lewis. He was formerly employed as a machine operator with Leggett & Platt. He was preceded in death by his sister, Eunice Faircloth, and a brother, Henry Lewis.
Surviving are his wife, Grace Suits Lewis of the home; one daughter, Brenda McDaniels of Wallburg; three sons, Roger Lewis, Ronnie Lewis and Randy Lewis, all of Thomasville; two stepdaughters, Judy Faircloth and Brenda Stanley, both of Archdale; four stepsons, Tommy Welch and Ronnie Welch, both of Sophia, Gary Welch of Norman and Larry Welch of Archdale; two brothers, Ernest Lewis of Badin Lake and Dan Lewis of Wilmington; two sisters, Sally Watson of Sunset Beach and Shelby Gurley of Archdale; one half brother, David Lewis of Sunset Beach; 24 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Bill Barnes. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
