Mrs. Mary Fountain Cook, 83, of Britthaven of Davidson, formerly of 701 S. Elm St., High Point, died Oct. 22, 2000, at Community General Hospital.
She was born March 25, 1917, in Guilford County, a daughter of Samuel E. and Lillian Mae Fountain. She was a homemaker and attended Green Street Baptist Church Sunday School Classes taught at Elm Towers. On April 15, 1941, she married Charles Vernon Cook Sr., who preceded her in death on June 11, 2000. She also was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Surviving are two sons, Charles Vernon Cook Jr. and his wife, Peggy, of 1819 Futrelle Drive, High Point, and Kenneth Ray Cook and his wife, Carolyn, of 3627 Malibu Drive, High Point; a grandson, Jason Edward Cook; two granddaughters, Deah Waldroup and Sandra Kinton; and a sister, Mrs. Margaret F. Vick of High Point.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Floral Garden Park Cemetery by the Rev. David Surrett and the Rev. David M. Emery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point.

John Robert East, 43, of 112 Cherokee Drive died Oct. 22, 2000, at N.C. 52 North, Winston-Salem.
He was born Dec. 26, 1956, in Davidson County, a son of Hoyle Everhart and Jan E. Glover. He was an employee of Finishmaster of Charlotte and a member of First United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Kimberly W. East of the residence; a son, John Robert East II of the residence; a daughter, Kelly Suzanne East of the residence; his mother of High Point; his father of California; and a sister, Melynda E. Crawford of Southport.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church by the Rev. John Ferree, the Rev. J. Hurley Thomas III and the Rev. Jill Alventosa-Brown. Burial will be in Forest Hill Memorial Park. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Piedmont Funeral Home and 12:30-1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the parlor of First United Methodist Church and other times at the residence.

He was born in South Carolina, a son of James and Maggie Wilson Walker.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Joan Young Walker of the residence; a son, Maurice Walker of the residence; a daughter, Ms. Susette Walker of Baltimore, Md.; a brother, Ernest Walker of Cincinnati, Ohio; and nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

He was born Sept. 19, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Surviving are his parents; a brother, Charles 'Chip' Dillard of the residence; two stepbrothers, Rodney Miller Jr. of Maryland and Jason Cobb of High Point; two stepsisters, Donnitha Miller and Kiearra Miller, both of Maryland; maternal grandparents, Jessie and Wendell Baker of High Point; paternal grandmother, Jane Thomas of High Point; and his godmother, Carol Patterson of Suitland, Md.
Funeral service was noon Monday in Carolina Biblical Gardens by the Rev. George Steele. Visitation was at 1042 Montlieu Ave.

Charles Eugene 'Gene' Osborne, 61, of 2716 William Henley Road died at 7 p.m. Oct. 23, 2000, at 7 at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born March 10, 1939, in Guilford County, a son of Walter Floyd and Annie Laura Tuggle Osborne, who both preceded him in death. He was a resident of Sophia for the past eight years. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a truck driver with Harris Teeter super market. He was of the Baptist faith. On Aug. 11, 1962, he married the former Betty Macon, who survives of the residence. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Osborne, in March 1992.
Also surviving are a son, Chris Osborne and his wife, Melissa, of Sophia; a very special grandson, Austin Osborne; and a sister, Mrs. Evelyn Caveness of High Point.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service of Archdale, by the Rev. Bill V. Barnes. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Leta Idol Duncan, 73, of 1815 McIdol Road died Oct. 25, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center.
She was born March 7, 1927, in Forsyth County, a daughter of Delos E. and Lesta Stafford Idol, who both preceded her in death. She was a member of Bunker Hill United Methodist Church and the Sunshine Circle. She was loved by everyone.
Surviving are her husband, Glen William Duncan of the residence; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Donald Hedgecock of High Point, Carol and Johnny Smith of Colfax and Susan and Hughes Cassell of Kernersville; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Shari Duncan of Winston-Salem; a brother, Paul Idol of Kernersville; a sister, Linnie Clinard of Kernersville; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Sarah Ann Vuncannon Duncan, 82, of 309 Unity St. died Oct. 25, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Dec. 9, 1917, in Randolph County, a daughter of Arthur and Annie Myers Vuncannon. She was a member of Highland Baptist Church in High Point and the Sunday school. She was married Aug. 3, 1936, to Hobart Jackson Duncan, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Shirley Fraley, Mrs. Bobby (Dot) McGuire, Miss Elnita Duncan, Ms. Debra Wheatley and Mrs. Jimmy (Katherine) Murray, all of Thomasville and Mrs. Jack (Nell) Blackman of High Point; two sons, Darrell Duncan of Thomasville and Michael Duncan and his wife, Susan, of High Point; a sister, Mrs. Kathleen Shaffer of Danbury; two brothers, Wade Vuncannon of High Point and Arthur Vuncannon of Archdale; 30 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Carole Wood Dunn, 66, died Oct. 20, 2000, at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Fort Gordon.
She was born in Massachusetts and was a resident of Screven County for the past several years. She was a nurse's aide and a ward clerk at Jenkins County Hospital and was a member of the Westside Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Dowd M. Dunn of Sylvania; two daughters, Cheryl Ann Garrett of High Point, N.C., and Kathryn L. Dunn of Salisbury, N.C.; three sons, Steven J. Dunn, Mark D. Dunn and Dowd M. Dunn Jr., all of Salisbury; three sisters, Audrey Givens of Pachico, Calif., Michelle Doerrler of Mohegan Lake, N.Y., and Claudia Driscoll, Concord, Calif.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Chloe Layton Ferree of High Point Manor died Oct. 25, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born in Guilford County, a daughter of Charlie V. Layton and Emily Short Layton. She was a secretary with First United Methodist Church for 25 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Sunday School Class and United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Woman's Club, Agenda Club, Friendly Club and a volunteer for more than 20 years with the American Red Cross. On Nov. 20, 1937, she married Tyson T. Ferree, who preceded her in death in April 1948.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Linda Nunnally and her husband, Jack, of Atlanta, Ga.; a son, Thad L. Ferree of Raleigh; two sisters, Mrs. Esther Jones of Pleasant Garden; Mrs. Ann Tilley of Greensboro; and two grandchildren, Jason Nunnally and Corey Nunnally.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Sechrest Chapel, E. Lexington Avenue, High Point, by the Rev. Donnell Lloyd. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
