Mrs. Nellie M. Lewis, 84, of 567 Meadowbrook Drive died at 9:30 p.m. Nov. 6, 2000, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.
She was born in Alamance County, a daughter of William M. Matthews and Hanerbell Moon Matthew, who both preceded her in death. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and a life member of Salem United Methodist Church. She was a long time employee of Burlington Industries and retired from Guilford County Sheriff's Department. She was married to Crafton 'P.C.' Lewis, who also preceded her in death.
Surviving are a son, Gerald A. Lewis of Greensboro; two grandsons, Steven Lewis and Neal Lewis; and two great-granddaughters, Paige Lewis and Parker Lewis.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Faith United Methodist Church by the Rev. Ross Carter. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at Rich & Thompson Mortuary, Burlington, and other times at the residence.

Ishmael 'Ish' Worth Seawell, 79, died Nov. 5, 2000, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 7, 1921, in Lemon Springs, a son of Lattie Jones Seawell and Thelma Todd Seawell, who both preceded him in death. He retired from Pioneer Food Brokers after many years of service. He was a former member of G.M.R.A. and was an avid wood worker who gave many of his creations away. He was a member of Dilworth United Methodist Church, where he served as an official greeter for many years.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Leonora Seawell of Charlotte; two daughters, Vicki Miller and her husband, David, of High Point and Debbie Hall of Rock Hill, S.C.; two sisters, Kathleen Badgett of Merritt Island, Fla., and Evon G. Bray of Sanford; two brothers, Ray Seawell of Columbus, Ga., and Billy Seawell of Johnson City, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Vickie Hughes of Charlotte, Brian James of Wilmington, Andy Hall of Charlotte and Beth James of High Point; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be 11 a.m. today at Dilworth United Methodist Church by the Rev. Duke Isom. Burial will be in Forest Lawn East Cemetery.

Mrs. Shirley Briles Whitaker, 48, of 5207 River Road died Nov. 7, 2000, at her residence.
She was born Feb. 5, 1952, in Guilford County, a daughter of Bill and Reba Varner Briles. She was a lifelong resident of Jamestown and a 1970 graduate of Ragsdale High zSchool. She had been employed with Target on Bridford Parkway in Greensboro. She was first married to Grayson Wesley Brady, who preceded her in death in 1995.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Sexton of High Point; a son, Chris Brady of Greensboro; three grandchildren, Johnathon Brady of Portland, Ore., Jennifer and Maggie Sexton, both of High Point; her parents of Jamestown; and a brother, Bill Briles III of Jamestown.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, by the Rev. Scott Weldon. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.

Mrs. Patricia Ann Williams, 45, of 304 W. Kearns Ave. died Nov. 4, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Dec. 5, 1954, in Dillon, S.C., a daughter of Charlie Thomas Wright and Celia Kravitz. She was married to Donald Ray Williams, who survives. She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Tyron Wright.
Also surviving are a son, Maurice 'Reese' Wright; her mother of Dillon; two brothers, Charlie Wright Jr. of Atlanta and Timothy (Sandy) Aiken of Timmonsville, S.C.; two sisters, Ms. Priscella Wright of Dillon and Mrs. Sandra (Lamar) Miles of Atlanta; a grandson, Kyheem Daquane Wright; two aunts of New York; sisters-in-law; and a host of cousins, nieces and friends.

Mrs. Kate Driggers, 91, of 144 Garcia Kennedy Road died Nov. 6, 2000, at her residence after an extended illness.
She was born May 14, 1909, in Yadkin County, a daughter of Amos and Mary Davis Speer. She was a High Point resident the majority of her life. She retired from Burlington Industries and was a member of East Green Street Church of God, where she was secretary of the Ladies Sunday School Class for several years. On Dec. 18, 1926, she married Harold Eulon Driggers at Welch Memorial United Methodist Church. She was a beloved mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband May 3, 1991; two sisters, Allie Carter and Nettie Vestal; three brothers, A.W. Speer, Govenor Speer and Pinkney Speer; a granddaughter, Bonnie Roach; and four sons-in-law, Jerry Smith, Henry Roach, Coulter Pendegraph and Kinney Baker.
Surviving are eight children, Mary Roach of High Point, Mrs. Helen Whitehart and her husband, Ervin, of Archdale, Gerald Driggers and his wife, Louise, of Danbury, Va., Betty Baker of Carolina Beach, Peggy Pendegraph of Archdale, Mrs. Shelby Idol and her husband, Kenneth, of Kernersville, Harold Driggers and his wife, Betty, of Thomasville and Mrs. Carolyn Bowers and her husband, Jack, of Trinity; two sisters, Mrs. Ruby Windham and Mrs. Sally White, both of High Point; 29 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, by the Rev. Riley E. Puckett. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
Pallbearers will be Keith Pendegraph, Brian Bowers, Kevin Smith, Bill Baker, Ronnie Whitehart and Michael Driggers. All other grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mrs. Virginia Bell Hall, 72, of 1080 Sutton Court died Nov. 8, 2000, at her home.
She was born Sept. 23, 1928, in Guilford County, a daughter of J.L. and Josie G. Bell, who both preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Sumner High School and a member of Vandalia Presbyterian Church. She was an entrepreneur and a tax accountant. She was the owner of Hall's Tax Service and Accounting. She was a member of several professional organizations such as the Central chapter of the N.C.S.A. of which she was a past president, the National Society of Tax Professionals and the American Institute of Tax Studies.
She was politically active. She was a member of the Republican Presidential Legion and a charter member of the Republican Presidential Task Force. She served as Commander of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, Unit 20, in Greensboro, and was a volunteer with the American Red Cross. She was listed as a honored professional in the national and international 'Who's Who.' She also was preceded in death by her two sisters, Mary Francis Bell and Joann B. Kirkpatrick.
Surviving are her husband of 49 years, Wayne T. Hall; a son, Phil Hall and his wife, Gwen Hall, of Greensboro; and two grandchildren, Heather Hall and Andrew Hall.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Vandalia Presbyterian Church, Greensboro. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory Street Chapel.

Vedad Jurney

Mrs. Vedad Mansoor Jurney, 75, of 500 Rockspring Road died Nov. 7, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital from complications after a scheduled surgery.
She was born in Akka, Palestine (now Israel) and was raised in nearby Haifa, on Mount Carmel. At 14, her family left Israel because of hardships brought on by Arab-Israeli conflicts and they moved to Tehran, Iran. There she finished high school, business school and worked for the British Embassy as an executive secretary and interpreter, using the five languages she had been taught as a student. In 1954, she came to the United States and settled near her sister's family in Norfolk, Va., where she became a registered nurse at Norfolk General Hospital. In 1961, she married High Point architect and author, who was employed with William F. Freeman Associates, David Jurney, who preceded her in death in 1992. They resided in Greensboro and Rocky Mount, later settling in High Point. In 1970 she became an American Citizen. She and her husband were married at the Baha'i House of Worship in Wilmette, Ill. She was a member of the Baha'i Faith, a religion founded in 1863 that promotes the oneness of God, the oneness of humanity and the oneness of religions. She was a resident of High Point 36 years and led an active life as a wife and mother, public speaker and were the first Baha'is to settle in High Point. She was a founding member of the first Local Spiritual Assembly of High Point and traveled to India, Pakistan, Bermuda and the Middle East where she was born. She championed her favorite causes of world peace, equal rights for women and racial harmony and supported her husband's work with the High Point Human Relations Commission. She was active in the PTA and the Friends of the High Point Public Library. In 1999, she returned to her birthplace for a second Baha'i pilgrimage to the Holy Land. She loved gardening and was especially fond of children. She was the youngest of four children.
Surviving are two sons, Nabil Jurney, a voice-over and radio artist formerly of New Rochelle, N.Y. and Riaz Jurney, president of Skools, Inc. Furniture and his wife, Judy Jurney, and their son, Ben, of New York City; her daughter Sherry Black and her husband, Don, and their children, Christina and William, live in Northville, Mich.; and her sister, Behjat Arnold of Rocky Mount, Va.

Mrs. Frances Audrey Shutt Osbin, 71, of 401 Gene St. died Nov. 7, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Jan. 6, 1929, in Guilford County, a daughter of Edgar Lee and Lora Nevada Shutt. She was a lifelong resident of the High Point area. She was the former owner and operator of Mack's Grocery. She was of the Baptist faith. In 1946, she married Mack C. Osbin Jr., who preceded her in death June 1, 1998. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Adeline Enscore and two brothers, Louis Shutt and Kenneth Shutt.
Surviving are two sons, Curtis Dean Osborne and his wife, Glenda, and Kenneth Osborne and his wife, Darlene, all of High Point; three daughters, Mrs. Vicky Bumgardner and her husband, Donald, and Mrs. Patty Swaney, all of Thomasville, and Mrs. Kathy Dobbins and her husband, Ronald, of Archdale; two sisters, Berniece Montgomery of Trinity and Lucille Culler of High Point; and five grandchildren.

Mrs. Ninnie Webb Carter Redwine, 76, of Liberty Wood Nursing Home, formerly of 14 Goforth Drive, died Nov. 8, 2000, at the nursing center.
She was born May 29, 1925, in Wesborne County, Tenn., a daughter of William Frank Webb and Lelar Pelfrey Webb, who both preceded her in death. She was a retired employee with Maro Hosiery of Thomasville. She was of the Baptist faith and formerly attended Friendly Gospel Freewill Baptist Church. She was twice married, first to Willie Wesley Carter and later to William Reid Redwine, who both preceded her in death.
Surviving are five daughters, Ms. Anna Marie Sanders of Silver Valley Community, Lexington, Mrs. Bobby (Helen) Cox and Mrs. Wilma Jean Loden, both of Thomasville, Mrs. Odell (Linda) Carver of the residence and Mrs. Kenneth (Julia) Simmons of Texas; four sons, William W. Carter Jr. of Sophia, Anthony 'Tony' Carter of Lexington, and Dallas R. Redwine and Jerry D. Redwine, both of Thomasville; a sister, Mrs. Pauline Webb Smith of Crossville, Tenn.; three brothers, Retired Master Sgt. U.S. Army, 1st Class Fritz A. Webb of Nolanville, Texas, and Kenneth R. Webb of Winston-Salem; a half sister, Ms. Judy Johnson of McMenville, Tenn.; a half brother, Jimmy Webb of Georgia; 24 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
