Roy Cranford

Roy Thomas Cranford, 83, of 103 Longview Road died Nov. 20, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Dec. 31, 1916, in Guilford County, a son of Jarvis G. Cranford and Martisha Hill Cranford. He was a self-employed painter and a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II. He was an avid golfer. He was a member of Green Street Baptist Church and the Thurston Bowman Sunday School Class. On Dec. 21, 1934, he married Helen Grissom, who survives of the residence. He was preceded in death by a son, Roy Thomas Cranford Jr.
Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Joan Parham and her husband, Wayne, of Harrison, Tenn., Mrs. Barbara Tyner of Jamestown and Mrs. June French and her husband, Tim, of High Point; seven grandchildren, Joe Edwards, Cindy Gibbons, Debra McMurry, Mischelle Farmer, David Parham, Jill Tyner and Monica Lawson; and eight great-grandchildren, Sarah Edwards, Josh Edwards, John Edwards, Courtney Edwards, Brandi Tyner, Brittany Farmer, Savanna McMurry and Olivia Lawson.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Green Street Baptist Church by the Rev. Alan Cox and the Rev. Gene Phillips. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The body will be at Sechrest Funeral Home, East Lexington Avenue. Visitation will be7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Willis Harris Sr.

Willis Charles Harris Sr., 72, died Nov. 19, 2000.
He was born Jan. 5, 1928, in Thomasville, a son of Walter Guy and Sadie Ann Brady Harris. He was a U.S. Marines veteran. He was a master Mason and a member of Numa F. Reid Masonic Lodge #344 A.F.&A.M. where he served as a past master. He was a member of Rankin Memorial United Methodist Church and a member of the Men’s Bible Class.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Alese Jones Harris; two daughters, Ann Shaver and her husband, Tony, of Hampden-Sydney, Va., and Jean Dewey and her husband, Rob of Virginia Beach, Va.; a son, Buzz Harris of Boston, Mass.; two brothers, Goldston F. Harris of Charlotte and Walter Harris of Greensboro; six grandchildren, Christopher, Austin and Jackson Shaver, Kelly, Ryan and Conor Dewey; and three nieces and two nephews.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rankin Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. G. Lee Pollock and the Rev. Charles Adams. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Sechrest Funeral Service, East Lexington Avenue, High Point.

Mrs. Flossie Tobin Hartley, 76, of 143 Faith Drive died Nov. 19, 2000, at her residence.
She was born Oct. 12, 1924, in Davidson County, a daughter of Fred and Hattie Strickland Hiatt. She was a resident of Davidson County the majority of her life. She was a member of Colonial Baptist Church, Trinity, where she was a member of the Senior Citizens Sunday School Class. She retired from Adonna Beauty Shop in High Point. She married Patrick M. Tobin, who preceded her in death in 1959. She later married Ralph Harley, who also preceded her in death in 1995.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Buddy (Patricia) Hodge of Lexington; a son, Michael Tobin of Thomasville; a sister, Mrs. Marie Byerly of High Point; a brother, William Hiatt of Thomasville; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel, Thomasville, by the Rev. Steve Jarvis and the Rev. Ray Webb. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery, High Point. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

William McKinley “Bill” Hester, 83, of Centerclair Nursing Home died at 2:30 a.m. Nov. 20, 2000, at the home after an illness of one month.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. today at the funeral home.

David Edwir “Ed” Jones, 52, of Eden Terrace died Nov. 19, 2000, at Duke University Center.
He was born July 27, 1948, in High Point, a son of Luther and Martha Davis Jones. He retired from Drexel Heritage Furniture Co. after 26 years of service. He dedicated his time to coaching children and coached little league baseball, basketball and softball. He was a wonderful, loving father and will be deeply missed by his children and family.
Surviving are two daughters, Renee Allred, and her husband, Doug, of Archdale, and Sherimi Jones and her husband, Chris Guinn, of Randleman; a sister, Nancy Davis of Silver Valley; a brother, Wayne Jones of Sophia; and three grandchildren, Kasey, Morgan and Harley.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Marlboro Friends Meeting by the Rev. John Sides and the Rev. Keith Letterman. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Jack M. Patton, 83, of 3622 Riverdale Road died Nov. 20, 2000, at his residence.
He was a member of Moriah United Methodist Church. He was a skilled carpenter, cabinet maker and enjoyed gardening.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Kathleen Smith Patton of the residence; two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Theresa Patton and David and Patsy Patton; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several other loving family members and friends.

Joel Edward Woods, 64, of 1218 Carolina Ave. died Nov. 19, 2000, at Annie Penn Hospital.
He was born in Stewart, Va., a son of Tom and Eliza Austin Woods, who both preceded him in death. He was employed with Dow Corning.
Surviving are his wife, Elsie Haire Woods of the residence; three sons, James Edward Woods of Daytona Beach, Fla., Timothy Wayne Woods of Eden and Joel Edward Woods Jr. of Thomasville; a daughter, Lisa Young of Thomasville; four brothers, Lester Woods of Wentworth, Leon Woods, Donnie Woods and Dillard Woods, all of Reidsville; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Fred Allen Craver, 57, of Brittany Lane died Nov. 22, 2000, at Forsyth Memorial Hospital after an illness of one year.

Thomas “Bud” William Dunigan, 67, of 2400 E. Lexington Ave. died Nov. 22, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Oct. 7, 1933, in Winston-Salem, a son of Charles Walter and Annie McCarter Dunigan. He was a resident of High Point the majority of his life. He was a member of Reavis Memorial Baptist Church. He was as a fireman with High Point City Fire Department, prior to his retirement. He served in the National Guard. On Aug. 24, 1954, he married the former Marion Penland, who survives of the residence. He was preceded in death by his sister, Beulah Stanley.
Also surviving are a son, Michael William Dunigan and his wife, Melodie, of High Point; a daughter, Sharon Spencer and her husband, Barry, of Archdale; four grandchildren, Joshua Spencer, Beth Spencer, Hannah Dunigan and Brock Dunigan; and five sisters, Mrs. Calvin (Evelyn) Cashatt of High Point, Mrs. Claude (Viola) Yates of Granite Quarry, Mrs. Marvin (Geraldine) Bingham, Mrs. Thomas (Lona) Vestal and Mrs. Barbara Ray, all of Archdale.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Reavis Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Darryl Love, the Rev. Jesse Crooks and the Rev. Hal Varner. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, and other times at the residence.

Mrs. Minnie Elizabeth Jester, 91, of Piedmont Christian Home, formerly of Allendale, S.C., died Nov. 22, 2000, at the home.
She was born March 7, 1909, in Guilford County, a daughter of Earl V. and Glenda Esther Craven Jester. She was a graduate of a Baptist Seminary. She was employed with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and was a teacher. She was owner of Pan American Real Estate Co., retiring in 1976. She was a member of Arnon Baptist Church in Allendale. On March 20, 1937, she married the Rev. Carl C. Jester, who preceded her in death in Dec. 1975. She also was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Edna Reeves of Waynesboro, Ga.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Hickory Chapel Wesleyan Church by the Rev. Douglas T. Caldwell. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be at Sechrest Funeral Home, E. Lexington Ave. until the hour of service. Visitation will be after the service at the church fellowship hall.

Bill Lowe, 66, of 3927 Rollingwood Court died Nov. 21, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Aug. 14, 1934, in Alleghany County, a son of Leonard Brennard Lowe and Marie Vaughn Lowe. He was a former owner and operator of Southgate Texaco. He retired from Henredon Furniture Co. of High Point. He served as captain of the Thomasville Rescue Squad. He was a member of Little Pine Church of the Brethren in Sparta. On March 23, 1957, he was married to Joann Trivette, who survives of the residence. He was preceded in death by a son, Carly Ray Lowe and a grandson, Robert Brian Sheffield.
Also surviving are three daughter, Ms. Wanda Jean Sheffield and Mrs. David (Jill) Biggs, both of Thomasville, and Ms. Shelia Ann Hoover of Lexington; a son, James Kevin Lowe of High Point; two sisters, Ms. Bernice Tabor of High Point and Mrs. Bonnie Pletcher of Gainsville, Fla.; two brothers, Jerry Wayne Lowe of High Point and J.C. Lowe of Trinity; four grandchildren, Mrs. Lisa Michelle Bressi, Mrs. Melaine Rose Grubb, Miss Jennifer Elizabeth Hoover and Corey Alexander Biggs; and two great-grandchildren, Miss Carly Maria Bressi and Miss Ericka Rose Bressi.
