Mrs. Sylvia Ford McGee died Nov. 26, 2000, at Chapel Hill Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill.
She was born Dec. 2, 1916, in Winston-Salem, a daughter of John Thomas and Emma Boyd Ford, who both preceded her in death. Throughout her life, she faithfully served the Lord as the wife of Rev. Aster Lee McGee, who preceded her in death by 12 days. She was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother and aunt.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Charles Edens of Hampstead, and Kathy and Leon Turner of Raleigh; two sons, Johnny McGee of Summerfield and Phil McGee and his wife, Charlie, of Wrightsville Beach; seven grandchildren, David and Chris Murray of Atlanta, and Charlotte respectively, Philip McGee, Samantha and Hunter McGee, all of Wrigtsville Beach, Kristen and Rachel Turner of Raleigh; two adopted children, Peggy and Shelton Evans of Castle Hayne and their daughter, Kim, and son-in-law, Wayne Moser, and their son, Kyle Moser of Hope Mills; dear friends of the family, Bruce Thede of Greensboro and Jeff Parks of Roanoke Rapids; a sister, Alma Lynch of Winston-Salem; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives in the High Point, Winston-Salem and Thomasville areas.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Oleander Memorial Gardens, 306 Bradley Drive. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Andrews Mortuary, 1617 Market St.

Mrs. Anna D. Maheras, 87, of Evergreens of High Point, formerly of 425 N. Hamilton St., died Nov. 27, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness.
She was born Aug. 27, 1913, in New York, N.Y., a daughter of Nick and Lena Housakos Drakulakos. She was a resident of High Point for the past 41 years and was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore George Maheras on Nov. 25, 1958. She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Drakulakos, George Drakulakos and Alex Drakulakos, who also resided in High Point many years.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Linda Hinson of Granbury, Texas; a son, Nick Maheras of High Point; two sisters, Mrs. Helen Castanes of Fayetteville and Mary Frances Chakales of High Point; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. George Greek Orthodox Church by Father Dennis Canavos. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. A Trisagion service will be 7 tonight at Sechrest Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be tonight after the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Louise Hartley Nayle, 79, of 2968 Old Salisbury Road died Nov. 27, 2000.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Lexington City Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 tonight at Piedmont Funeral Home and other times at the residence of her daughter, Carol Martin, 650 E.L. Myers Road.

George William “Bill” Pleasants Jr., 86, of Friends Homes at Guilford, formerly of Garner, died Nov. 26, 2000, after a period of declining health.
He was born Jan. 1, 1914, in Clover, S.C., a son of George William Pleasants Sr. and Carrie Adams Pleasants, who both preceded him in death. He retired in 1976 as a personnel recruiter for Bus Terminal Restaurants, an affiliate of Holiday Inn. He was a member of Jamestown Presbyterian Church and a former member of Ernest Myatt Presbyterian Church in Raleigh, having served as an elder for 50 years.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Mary Scott Jones Pleasants; a daughter, Mary Scott Hogg and her husband, Thomas G.; four sons, George William Pleasants III and his wife, Clarajo Macon, Joseph Clarke Pleasants and his wife, Carolyn, James Forrest Pleasants and his wife, Marcia Pierce, and Phillip Adams Pleasants and his wife, Hilda Story; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Green Hill Cemetery. Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Friends Homes at Guilford.

James Edward Rickard, 66, of 212 Dave Shuler Drive died Nov. 25, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
He was born Nov. 8, 1934, in Davidson County, a son of Curtis Roscoe and Ida Mae Hicks Rickard. He was a retired, self-employed professional painting contractor and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of Pine Woods United Methodist Church and a member and former teacher of the Endeavors Class. He was a former secretary of the church administrative board and former chairman of the church trustees. On Aug. 8, 1952, he married Collene Shuller, who survives of the residence. He also was preceded in death by a son, David James Rickard in 1982.
Also surviving are a daughter, Gwen Beck and her husband, Ronnie, of Thomasville; a son, Curtis R. Rickard and his wife, Amanda, of High Point; two brothers, Glenn Rickard of Winston-Salem and Bud Rickard of Denton; a sister, Martha Griffin of Southmont; daughter-in-law, Debbie Rickard of Mocksville; six grandchildren, Layne Beck, Allison Beck Manning, Jason Lee Rickard, Christopher Rickard, Benjamin Rickard and Lauren Rickard; and two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Katelyn Manning.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pine Woods United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jim Sanders. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8:30 tonight at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home and other times at the residence. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.

Robert “Bobby” Lee Beck, 64, of 315 Hillcrest Circle died Nov. 28, 2000, at his residence.
He was born Dec. 15, 1935, in Davidson County, a son of James A. and Terese Leonard Beck. He was employed with Parkdale Mills Inc. of Thomasville as a quality auditor and employed part-time with Town and Country Realty as a real estate salesman and appraiser. He was a member of Central Wesleyan Church and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class. He served as a former coach of the Men’s Softball Team of the church. He was a member of the Realty Association.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Sybil Maness Beck of the residence; two daughters, Teresa Beck of Gastonia and Ruth Smith and her husband, Rick, of Newalla, Okla.; a son, Danny Beck and his wife, Caren, of Thomasville; his mother of Thomasville; three sisters, Mrs. Jackie Parrish of Thomasville, Mrs. Frances Vick of Wake Forest and Mrs. Judi Bullabough of Mocksville; three brothers, James W. Beck of Gastonia, Ted F. Beck of Wallburg and David B. Beck of Lexington; and a granddaughter, Miss Desiree Smith.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Central Wesleyan Church by the Rev. Glenn Hawkins and the Rev. David Emery. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery, High Point. The body will be at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
Past members of the ball teams who played with him are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers and should meet 10:40 a.m. Friday at the church.

Mrs. Julia Clinton “Pie” Butler, 64, of 605-C Granby St. died Nov. 27, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Oct. 24, 1936, in Lilesville, a daughter of Philip Smith and Laura Clinton Lindsay, who both preceded her in death. She attended public schools in Lilesville. She was a member of Olga Avenue Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by a son, Kenny Little; two daughters, Cynthia Little and Hazel Butler; a granddaughter, Macklin Lynette Little; and a grandson, William Dockery Jr.
Surviving are her ex-husband, Haywood Butler of Wadesboro; four sons, Rickey Little and Randy Butler, both of High Point, Stevie R. (Joanne) Butler of Fayetteville and Haywood C. Butler Jr. of Morganton; two daughters, Mrs. Deborah B. (Allen) Carroll of Wadesboro and Ms. Maggie B. Hill of High Point; her stepfather, Granson Lindsay; five brothers, William Lindsay of Thomasville, Granson Lindsay Jr. of Spring Valley, N.Y., James Lindsay of Baltimore, and Charles Lindsay and Barna Smith, both of High Point; three sisters, Rachel Dawkins of High Point, Ivey Watson of Greensboro and Denese Lindsay-Mosley of Austin, Texas; 17 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 13 nieces and nephew; a host of cousins and special friends from Olga Avenue Church of Christ.

Wallace “Gator” Campbell III, 33, of 3204 Flanders Court died Nov. 25, 2000, at Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born in Washington, D.C., a son of Wallace Campbell Jr. and Hazel K. Williams. He attended Crossland High School, Oxon Hill, Md. He resided in North Carolina four years.
Surviving are a daughter, Amber Butler of Washington, D.C.; his father of Baltimore; his mother of the residence; three brothers, Bobby Campbell, James Campbell and Michael Kane; three sisters, Vicki Campbell, Kathy Campbell and Kimberly Campbell, all of High Point; and a host of aunts, uncles, eight nieces and nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Greensboro, by Bishop George W. Brooks. Burial will be in Piedmont Memorial Gardens, Winston-Salem. Visitation will be 12:30 p.m. Friday at the church and other times at the residence.

Edmond L. Davis, 73, of Thomasville died Nov. 28, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital after declining health of several years.
He was born Feb. 12, 1927, in Davidson County, a son of Paul H. and Nancy Johnson Davis. He was a lifelong resident of Davidson County. He was a graduate of Thomasville High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II. He retired from Silver Craft Furniture Co. in High Point, as a supervisor. He was a member of Carolina Memorial Baptist Church and a member of the Men’s #1 Sunday School Class. On Feb. 23, 1950, he was married to Miss Gail Wright, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Marvin (Ginger Leigh) Cromer of Trinity; a son, Lanny E. Davis of Thomasville; two sisters, Mrs. Carl (Louise) Grubb of Thomasville and Mrs. Ralph (Josephine) Katrosh of Bethesda, Md.; three grandchildren, Ms. Leigh Davis of Thomasville, Joshua McCullen and Jordan McCullen, both of Trinity; a stepgrandson, Matthew Cromer of Trinity; and a great-granddaughter, Miss Kelsey Davis of Thomasville.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Carolina Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Stuart White, the Rev. Kenneth Miller and the Rev. Bobby Swaim. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Donald Gene “Chilly Willy” Hall, 59, of 2994 Stanley Road died Nov. 27, 2000, at his residence.
He was born June 15, 1941, in Stokes County, a son of Willie Ausborn and Fannie Lou Frye Hall, who both preceded him in death. He was a resident of Archdale the majority of his life and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was employed with Hallmark Trucking prior to becoming disabled. He was a member and attended Christian Assembly Church in High Point, of which his son is pastor. He was a board member for Archdale Trinity Little League Football. On Sept. 20, 1961, he married the former Peggy Lloyd, who survives of the residence. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Penny Lou Hall in 1967; a grandson, Stephen Brooks Ritter in 1989; seven brothers; and three sisters.
Also surviving are a daughter, LaDonna Ritter and her husband, Stephen, of Trinity; three sons, Mark A. Hall and his wife, Cristy, of Trinity, Willie A. Hall and his wife, Donna, of Thomasville and Tony G. Hall and his wife, Christine; five sisters, Irene Ditto of Liberty, Otelia Conner of Lake City, Fla., Nova May of Daytona Beach, Fla., Ruth Ross of Sophia and Betty Michael of Denton; two brothers, Rayford Hall of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Clarence Hall of Winston-Salem; three special grandchildren, Anthony Hall of Greensboro and Lindy Hall and Chris Hall, both of Trinity; and 12 other grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Trindale Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Marvin Tennant and the Rev. Bill Barnes. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, and other times at the residence of his daughter, 220 Oak Forest Lane, Trinity.

Mrs. Edna Anderson Madden, 82, of High Point Care Center, formerly of Marlboro Church Road, Sophia, died Nov. 28, 2000, at the center.
She was born June 21, 1918, in Forsyth County, a daughter of Marion and Martha Hauser Anderson, who both preceded her in death. She was a Randolph County resident the majority of her life. She was previously employed with W.J. Rives Inc. and Anvil Brand Inc. She was a member of Old Pathway Baptist Church in High Point. She also was preceded in death by her daughter, Louise Wood and her sister, Lola Clodfelter.
Surviving are a daughter, Jean Bean of High Point; a son, Jack Kirk and his wife, Nancy, of Gilbert, S.C.; a sister, Dora Byerly of Thomasville; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, by the Rev. Houston Tilley. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Jefferson David “J.D.” Hoffman, 61, of Reedy Creek Road, Reedy Creek Community, died at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 28, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center.

William Rodgers Johnston, 88, of 127 W. Park Drive died Nov. 28, 2000.
He was born in Charlotte, a son of Joseph Ezekiel Johnston and Mamie Jennette Caldwell Johnston. He was a professor of chemistry at North Carolina State University for 30 years. He began his career as a chemist at Proctor and Gamble after receiving a bachelor of science and a master of science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Louise Spong Little Johnston and his son, William Rodgers Johnston Jr.
Surviving are his two sons, John Phillips Little Johnston and his wife, Dorothy J., of High Point and Christian Belser Johnston of Raleigh; his five daughters, Anne J. Henderson and her husband, Perrin Q., of Charlotte, Dabney J. Mann and her husband, J. Tift, of Raleigh, Mary Jennette Caldwell Mason and her husband, Richard H. Mason Jr., of Raleigh, Louise J. Coffey and her husband, Thomas G., of Naples, Fla., and Pamela J. Dameron and her husband, T.
