Mrs. Christine C. Gill, 74, of 4003 Archdale Road died Dec. 4, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Sept. 22, 1926, in Danville, Va., a daughter of Kersey and Annie Cockran, who both preceded her in death. She was a resident of Archdale for 54 years and was a homemaker. On June 12, 1946, she married Richard A. Gill, who survives of the residence. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda Gill Folsum.
Also surviving are a daughter, Phyllis Gail Hawkins of Whittier; three sons, Richard E. Gill of Jamestown, Ronnie Lee Gill of Los Angeles and Randy E. Gill of Archdale; a sister of High Point; five sisters of Virginia; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Floral Garden Park Cemetery by the Rev. Doug Byrd. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, and other times at the residence.
Lacy Harkrader

Mr. Lacy Lakey Harkrader, 89, formerly of 412 Clover St., died Dec. 3, 2000, at Morehead Nursing Center in Eden.
He was born Oct. 29, 1911, in Surry County, a son of Lacy Lloyd and Lela Lakey Harkrader. He attended public school of Dobson and Mt. Airy. He was a graduate of Duke University where he received a baseball scholarship. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II in the Tank Division commanded by Gen. George Patton in France, Germany and Austria. He retired from Pilot Life Insurance Co. in 1976. He was a member of Wesley Memorial Methodist Church. He was a member of the American Legion Post in High Point. On Nov. 12, 1938, he married Lila Mae Webb, who preceded him in death Dec. 11, 1988.
Surviving are 12 nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Dobson City Cemetery by the Rev. Richard J. Crowder. Visitation will be 6:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sechrest Funeral Service, E. Lexington Ave., High Point.
Jessie Hill
Jamestown
Mrs. Jesse Clark Hill, 85, formerly of Jamestown, died Dec. 2, 2000, at Saturn Nursing Center in Charlotte.
She was born Sept. 11, 1915, in Jamestown, a daughter of Jesse O. and Laura Maude Hodgin Clark. She was a resident of Jamestown the majority of her life. She retired from Pilot Life Insurance Co. in 1970. She was a member of Oakdale United Methodist Church and served as the church organist for many years. She was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Frances Clark.
Surviving are several cousins.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel of Sechrest Funeral Service, E. Lexington Avenue, High Point. Burial will be in Deep River Friends Meeting House Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m. Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Alfred Hinshaw

Alfred Kendall Hinshaw, 84, died Dec. 3, 2000, at Community General Hospital.
He was born April 27, 1916, in Westfield, Ind., a son of Grant Hinshaw Sr. and Ione Kendall Hinshaw, who both preceded him in death. He was a member of Calvary United Church of Christ, taught the Men’s Bible Class and the Willing Workers Class. He also was a former president of the Consistory, an elder and a deacon. He was a member of the Pilot Lions Club. He retired from the High Point City School in electrical maintenance. He was an avid artist and enjoyed painting oil portraits of several churches and old homes. His works have been displayed at the Davidson County Art Guild and the Thomasville Library. He was a part-time farmer and enjoyed spending time at his weekend residence in Spruce Pine and his winters at his residence in Keystone Heights, Fla.
On May 25, 1941, he was married to Anna Lee Alexander in Indiana. They moved to Thomasville in 1947. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Herbert Hinshaw and Hunter Hinshaw; and his sister, Edna Hinshaw.
Surviving are his loving wife of 59 years of the residence; a daughter, Julia H. Frison and her husband, Carroll, of Litchfield Park, Ariz.; two sons, Rodger Hinshaw and his wife, Nancy, of Spruce Pine and Kirt Hinshaw and his wife, Sue, of Archdale; six grandchildren, Ken Hinshaw, Kevin Frison, Glen Frison, Wendy Hefner, Jimmy Hinshaw and Hunter Hinshaw; two great-grandchildren, Alex Frison and Ocean Hinshaw; a brother, Grant Hinshaw Jr.; a sister, Emma Hinshaw.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary United Church of Christ by the Rev. June Grubb and the Rev. Harold W. Holste. The body will be at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Lewis A. “Bud” Kugler, 71, died Dec. 4, 2000.
He retired Jan. 1990, from General Electric with 33 years of service. He was a volunteer field representative for Christian Financial Concepts and he was a member of Church of the Holy Spirit in Roanoke, Va. He was an avid golfer and was a member of Senior’s Golf Association at Great Oaks Country Club in Floyd. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lewis E. and Gertie Kugler; a sister, Barbara Ann Kugler; and a brother, George Edward Kugler.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Charline W. Kugler; two daughters and a son-in-law, Mary and Bill Fox of Copper Hill, Va., and Jean Ann Dabbs of High Point, N.C.; five grandchildren, Heather and Kevin Westlake of Roanoke, Amy, Kelly and Bobby Dabbs, all of High Point; two great-grandsons, Kyle and Steven Westlake; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lynell and Gordon Van Winkle of Anderson, Ind. and Willowdean Kugler of Moore, Okla.; a brother-in-law and his wife, H.E. and Linda Wolfe of Lafayette, Ind.; 21 nieces and nephews, Mike and Wilma Van Winkle of Florida, Pat and Jodi Van Winkle of Anderson, Ind., Chris and Joelle Van Winkle of Anderson, Dennis Kugler of Indianapolis, Tim and Nancy Kugler of Texas, Bob and Julie Wolfe of Farmington, Minn., Pat Wolfe of Indianapolis, Mike and Julie Wolfe of Anderson, Richard and Melissa Wolfe of Jacksonville, Fla., Jenny and Mike Wiskins of Evansville, Ind., Mark, Becky and Jerry Kimble of Moore, Okla.

Robert Hilden Nance, 82, of 314 Westside Drive died Dec. 2, 2000, at SunBridge of Lexington after declining health of several years.
He was born Aug. 6, 1918, in Davidson County, a son of Robert Lee Nance and Lonnie Miller Nance. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier with 27 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II. He was a member of the North Carolina Letter Carriers Association.
Surviving are his wife, Vera Mae Neil Nance of the residence; a son Robert Nance and his wife, Joanne, of Salisbury; a daughter, Linda Susan Smith and her husband, James, of Lexington, formerly of High Point; 10 grandchildren; a sister, Vera Cooper of Thomasville.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church by the Rev. John Ferree and the Rev. Jill Alventosa Brown. Burial will be in Lexington City Cemetery with graveside rites by District 11 Memorial Honor Guard. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Lois Marie Greer Parks, 81, of Piedmont Center of Thomasville, formerly of Beaver Creek Road, died at 10:14 p.m. Dec. 1, 2000, after an illness of eight weeks.

Birdie Sharpe

Mrs. Birdie Edwards Sharpe, 95, of 4816 W. Wendover Ave. died Dec. 3, 2000, at her residence.
She was born Oct. 16, 1905, in Guilford County, a daughter of Oliver A. and Jennie Sullivan Edwards. She was a lifelong resident of Jamestown. She was a former employee of Vicks Chemical Co. She was a member of Global Missions Church of High Point and was known for her strong Christian heritage and faithfulness to the church. She was known throughout the community as “Mama Sharpe.” On Dec. 24, she married James Hamilton Sharpe, who preceded her in death in 1970. She also was preceded in death by three sons-in-law; Don Brueck, Ron Craddock and Gary Lackey; two sisters; and three brothers.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Jean Brueck of Crown Point, Ind., Mrs. Frances Lackey and Mrs. Elizabeth Carroll and her husband, Ed, all of Jamestown, and Mrs. Vallie Milloway and her husband, Garry, of High Point; a son, Edward Sharpe, and his wife, Kay, of Cherokee; 13 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church, 5959 Hickory Grove Road, Greensboro, by Elders Andrew Simmons, Barney Yaskiewicz and Rick Yaskiewicz. Ms. Elaine Berg, 76, died Dec. 4, 2000.
She was born in Brooklyn and had live in south Florida the last 40 years. She spent many years as a volunteer at University Hospital, Coral Springs City Center and the local Board of Elections.
Surviving are a daughter, Ellen (Lenny) Samet of Greensboro, N.C.; a son, Jeffrey (Renee) Berg of Atlanta; six grandchildren, Tracy and Sammy Grant, Mindy and Julie Samet, Dana and Evan Berg; a very special niece, Nancy Zion-Thomas; a nephew, Steve Zion; and a very special friend, Bertha Erhlich.
Funeral will be 3:30 p.m. today at Star of David Memorial Chapel, North Lauderdale. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in the Hebrew Cemetery, High Point, N.C., by Rabbi Eliezer Havivi.

Walter Lovill Eldreth, 69, of 17831 Glenmark died Nov. 23, 2000, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Houston.
He was born June 23, 1931, in Creston Township, Ashe County, N.C., a son of William Ned and Dora Harris Eldreth, who both preceded him in death. He resided in High Point, N.C., prior to moving to Houston. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict. He was self-employed in the furniture business in Houston. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be missed by his family and friends. He also was preceded in death by his infant daughter and his brother, Boyd Eldreth.
Surviving are his wife, Belen Eldreth; five sons, Walter Eldreth Jr. of Munford, Ala., James Eldreth, Frank Eldreth, Matthew and Ricky Eldreth, all of Houston; three daughters, Jackie Ulfig of Brighton, Mich., Artie Spindler of Cypress, Texas, and Alice Eldreth of Houston; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four brothers, Bruce and Ray Eldreth, both of High Point, Neill of Pennsylvania and Jim Eldreth of Delaware.
Funeral was Nov. 27, 2000, at South Park Funeral Home. Burial was in Southpark Cemetery, Pearland, Texas.

Bert Carroll Evans, 68, of 2280 Venus Drive died Dec. 5, 2000, at his residence after an extended illness.
He was born July 3, 1932, in Guilford County, a son of Bert Elwood and Vada Susanne Evans. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a lifelong resident of the Kernersville area. He retired from Leggett & Platt as a machine foreman. On Feb. 14, 1959, he married the former Sandra Ray Baker, who survives of the residence. He was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters.
Also surviving are a son, Bert Carroll Evans II and his wife, Teresa, of Belmont; two daughters, Holly Renee Evans of the residence and Kathy Baker of Kershaw, S.C.; two sisters, Margaret Armfield and Judy Fraley; two grandchildren, Cameron and Danielle Evans; and a special niece, Melody Clark.

Mrs. Annie Allen “Ann” Goodnight, 85, of 707 S. Zion St. died Nov. 30, 2000, at her residence.
She was born Jan. 8, 1915, in Chesterfield County, S.C., a daughter of William M. and Betsy Ann Hancock Allen, who both preceded her in death. She retired several years ago from the sewing room of Cannon Mills, Plant #1 in Kannapolis after more than 45 years of service. She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Kannapolis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Wilson “Buss” Goodnight, Feb. 20, 2000.
Surviving are her daughter, Lynn G. Poole and her husband, Tommy, of Thomasville; a sister, Mary Deese of Kannapolis; a grandchild, Shana Horne and her husband, Todd, of Stewartsville, N.J.; and three great-grandchildren, Jessica Miller of Kannapolis, Elec Horne and Clara Ann Horne, both of Stewartsville, N.J.
