Buford Williams Sr.

Buford Talmadge “B.T.” Williams Sr., 83, formerly of 6150 Germanton Road, died Dec. 10, 2000, at Graybrier Nursing and Retirement Center in Trinity, after a short period of declining health.
He was born Aug. 7, 1917, in Rockingham County, a son of Pleasant and Mary Jane Williams, who both preceded him in death. He attended, as a child, Clemmons Elementary School and Hanes Town Elementary School. He was one of the pioneers of automobile racing in the South. He was a crew member for Holman-Moody Ford Racing Team, Charlotte, in 1956-1957, and was a member of the Old Timers Dirt Racers Association. He retired as a self-employed auto mechanic. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Ruth Irwin Williams, in 1993; his son, Denny Williams in 1985; six sisters; and three brothers.
Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Suzy and Ernest Bowles of Rural Hall; two sons and daughters-in-law, B.T. “Pete” and Wilma Williams Jr. of Archdale and Tony Lee and Robin Williams of Randleman; a special son, James “Doby” Scott Jr. and his wife, Amy, of Walnut Cove; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, Rural Hall Chapel, by the Rev. Ralph Mitchell. Burial will be in Antioch Primative Baptist Church Cemetery in Sparta. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Betty Elizabeth “Lizzie” Allred Bean, 91, of Evergreens Nursing Center Inc., formerly of 1007 Proctor Drive, died Dec. 12, 2000, at the center.
She was born Oct. 30, 1909, in Randolph County, a daughter of Thomas Scott and Lennie Voncannon Allred. She was a resident of High Point the majority of her life and retired from Highland Yarn Mills. She was a member of Highland Baptist Church. She was married to Ronie Lee Bean, who preceded her in death in 1966. She also was preceded in death by her son, Ronie Lee Bean Jr. in 1972.
Surviving are her son, Winfred “Red” Bean and his wife, Glenda, of High Point; a brother, Clayton Allred of High Point; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Back Creek Friends Meeting Cemetery, Randolph County, by the Rev. Keith D. Letterman. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale.

Julia Kenerley

Mrs. Julia Moseley Cornatzer Kenerley, 84, of E. Guilford St. died Dec. 11, 2000, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.
Funeral will be 4 p.m. today at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Cletus Kennedy
Archdale
Cletus Webster Kennedy, 79, of GrayBrier Nursing and Retirement Center, formerly of 5671 Folwell Drive, died Dec. 10, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Aug. 15, 1921, in Davidson County, a son of Noah Webster and Argie Vaden Kennedy, who both preceded him in death. He was a resident of the High Point and Archdale vicinity all of his life. He was an automobile mechanic and enjoyed dealing with antique car parts. He was of the Baptist faith. He was married to the former Ruth Johnson, who preceded him in death Aug. 11, 1996. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Kennedy; a son, Barry Kennedy; and a sister, Wilma Mae Hayworth.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Terry (Linda) Hall of Archdale; three sons, Randy “Red” Kennedy and his wife, Janice, of Lexington, Larry Kennedy and his wife, Linda, of Pace, Fla., and Wayne Kennedy and his wife, Charlotte, of Colonial Beach, Va.; his stepmother, Gladys Adams of the GrayBrier Nursing Center; three sisters, Cora Ann George, Doris Dorsett and Ruby Melton; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, by the Rev. David Mabe. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence of Linda Hall, 1741 Greendale Road, Archdale.

Douglas Thomas
High Point
Douglas E. Thomas, 53, of 3216 Rolling Road died Dec. 11, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born Jan. 2, 1947, in Asheboro, a son of Cecil Lawrence and Lois Freeman Thomas. He was a chartered life underwriter and a registered health underwriter. He was owner and general agent of Triad Financial Services Inc. of Greensboro. He was a graduate of Asheboro High School and Elon College. He was a lifelong resident of the Piedmont area. He worked for more than 20 years in the financial services field, first with The Paul Revere Insurance Co. as a general agent for the Greensboro office and then with Triad Financial.
In support of his profession, he was a member of the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce, Society of Financial Service Professionals, Greensboro Life Underwriters, Greensboro Association of Insurance and Financial Planners, and CPN of North Carolina Inc.
He was a member of Colonial Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf. He was a member of Green Street Baptist Church and the John Riggs Sunday School Class. On Nov. 16, 1980, he was married to the former Patricia Hale, who survives of the residence. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Morris C. Thomas.
Also surviving are two daughters, Ms. Sharon D. Cornelison of High Point and Ms. Angela D. Cornelison of Tampa, Fla.; his beloved dog, Winston; his mother of Asheboro; a sister, Carolyn T. Santanella of Asheboro; four brothers, Lowell L. Thomas of Blowing Rock, Dwight C. Thomas of Greensboro, Wayne D. Thomas and Boyd E. Thomas, both of Asheboro; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, by the Rev. Ralph H. Eanes Jr. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Jerry Wade

Jerry Kent Wade, 57, of N. Center Street and the Greensboro area, died Dec. 11, 2000, at Frye Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health.
He was born Oct. 9, 1943, in Burke County, a son of Samuel Jennings and Luda Amelia Eckard Wade, who both preceded him in death. He was very active in his church and community affairs, having served as past president of an area chamber of commerce. He organized and was a former chairman of the Archdale-Trinity Bush-Hill Heritage Festival. For a number of years, he was director of purchasing for Stroupe Mirror Co. in Thomasville. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Greensboro, and attended Mt. Hebron Lutheran Church while residing in Hildebran. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Nelson Wade and Miles Norman Wade.
Surviving are his wife of 36 years, Mary Sain Wade, of the residence; a sister, Marie Wade Smith of Connelly Springs; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Philo and Ila Mae Sain of Hildebran; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Worship and Celebration will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Hebron Lutheran Church, Hildebran, by the Rev. Charles Zimmerman and the Rev. Gary Coble. Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at First Lutheran Church, Greensboro, by the Rev. Charles Zimmerman. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday in Catawba Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday at the church prior to the service.

Ricky Woodall, 49, of Coppley Road died at 2 a.m. Dec. 10, 2000, at his residence.

Rose Rinehardt

Mrs. Rose P. Rinehardt, 79, of Longview Drive died Dec. 13, 2000, at her residence.
She was born May 20, 1921, in Caswell County, a daughter of John and Irma Davis Pleasant. She was a resident of High Point for 40 years. She retired in 1983 from Trinity High School, where she taught home economics for 30 years. She was a member of ADK Teachers Sorority and Christ United Methodist Church. On Dec. 19, 1948, she was married to Alender “Strait” Rinehardt, who preceded her in death Feb. 10, 1990.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan R. and Vince Riccio of Haddon Heights, N.J., and Jan R. and Mike Carroll of Raleigh; a sister, Ruby Chandler of Danville, Va.; a brother, John M. Pleasant of Purley; and three grandchildren, Brian Carroll, Jennie Riccio and Mark Carroll.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Christ United Methodist Church by the Rev. Glenn L. Myers Jr. and the Rev. Lloyd G. Hunsucker. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Sechrest Funeral Service, E. Lexington Avenue, High Point.

Agnes Smith

Mrs. Agnes Pow Smith, 92, formerly of 307 Church St., died Dec. 13, 2000, at Westwood Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Sept. 9, 1908, in High Point, a daughter of James Pow and Minnie Lee Rommel Pow. She retired in 1970 from Adams Millis Corp. She was a charter member of Central Alliance Church, now Christ Community Church and she was a former Sunday school teacher. On Feb. 4, 1928, she married Marvin B. Smith, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons, Marvin B. Smith Jr. and his wife, Ann, of Fredricksburg, Va., and Gordon L. Smith and his wife, Louise, of Pinehurst; seven grandchildren, Brian C. Smith of Denver, Colo., Kevin A. Smith of Olympia, Wash., Karen Towsen of Columbia, Md., Susan Rodriquez of Dazey, Fla., John Smith of Elderburg, Md., Matthew Smith of Reston, Va., and Rebecca Swann of Alexandria, Va.; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Sechrest Funeral Home Chapel, E. Lexington Avenue, High Point, by the Rev. Jeffrey P. Palmer. Entombment will be in Oakwood Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Helen Allred
High Point
Mrs. Helen Garland Allred, 92, of 201 Greensboro Road died Dec. 13, 2000, at Presbyterian Home.
She was born April 4, 1908, in High Point, a daughter of Robert Henry and Lou Gordy Garland. She was a lifelong resident of the High Point area and attended High Point schools. She retired in 1975 from Bryant Elctric Co. as a corporate secretary. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in High Point. On July 30, 1928, she married Clyde Harrell ”Spiv” Allred, who preceded her in death April 4, 1977.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Lucille Pierce of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a niece, Mrs. Barbara Pierce Parks of Myrtle Beach; and two nephews, B.J. “Jerry” Pierce of Florence, S.C., and Robert S. “Bobby” Pierce of Myrtle Beach.
Graveside service will be private by the Rev. W. Kirk Allen Jr.

Virgil “Moonie” Smith Hairston, 79, of 701 S. Elm St., Apt. 512, died Dec. 13, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born June 28, 1921, in Rockingham County, a son of Julius Hairston and Beulah Maude Malloy. He graduated from Florence High School, April, 13, 1943. He retired from Leggett & Platt Co. He was a member of Methodist/Turner Chapel AME Methodist Church in High Point. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Reeder Hairston, James Lafayette Hairston, George Levert Hairston, Mary Bernice Hairston, Sally “Pearl” Hairston Williams.
Surviving are two sons, Julius Odell Hairston and Thomas Earl Hairston; a daughter, Mrs. Rebecca “Dianne” Hairston Peoples; a brother, Samuel Roland Hairston; his sister, Mary Katherine “Cassie” Webster; four grandchildren, Tammy Michelle Hairston Cobb, Kimberly Dianne Hairston, Sherry E. Hairston and David L. Peoples Jr.; three great-grandchildren; five loving sisters-in-law, Margie S. Hairston, Jesie Mae A. Hairston, Omega R. Hairston, Emma L. Reader and Margaret R. Jones; two loving daughters-in-law, Bobbie C. Hairston and Alice M. Hairston; three brothers-in-law; a son-in-law, David L. Peoples Sr.; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives and dear friends.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Turners Chapel AME Methodist Church by the Rev. W.E. Diggs. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 1:30-2 p.m. Saturday at the church and other times at 7619 Florence School Drive, High Point.

Mrs. Lillian “Maw” Brooks Hedgecock, 87, of 224 Barney Road died Dec. 13, 2000, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.
She was born Oct. 1, 1913, a daughter of Arthur and Flossie Nunn Brooks. She was formerly employed with Anvil Brand and retired from Archdale Manufacturing. She was a lifelong member of Bunker Hill United Methodist Church and a charter member of its Women’s Society and the Adult Sunday School Class. On Dec. 23, 1929, she married Ivey Franklin “Nick” Hedgecock, who preceded her in death. She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Edgar, Weymouth and Douglas Brooks; and a son-in-law, Jimmy Norman.
Surviving are two daughters, Wilma Norman and Nancy Jane Russell, and her husband, Marty, all of High Point; four grandchildren, Frankie McNally and her husband, John, of High Point, Ivey Jane Kiestler and her husband, Terry, of Winston-Salem, Kimberly Hobson and her husband, Barry, and Franklin Howard Russell, all of High Point; three great-grandchildren, Amanda Brown and her husband, Doug, of Thomasville and Christopher and Brittany Kiestler, both of Winston-Salem; a great-grandchild, Nicholas Brown of Thomasville; a sister, Elizabeth Brooks Boggs of High Point; and several special nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Bunker Hill United Methodist Church by the Rev. Dana McKim. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Edwin Kleinert
Lexington
Edwin Nolan Kleinert, 76, of 255 Thomas School Road died Dec. 14, 2000, at Scenicview Healthcare Center in Baldwin, Ga.
He was born Aug. 16, 1924, in High Point, a son of Reuben Jones Clinard and Lou Etta Welborn. He graduated from High Point High School in 1941. He entered military service in early 1942, serving with First Scout Company A, 406th Regiment, 102 Ozark Division. He earned a Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Battle Star for participation in the European Theater. He was captured after being wounded during fierce fighting near Cologne, Germany in November 1944. He spent the next few months in Stalag II B, Neubrandenburg, in eastern Germany. In April 1945, he escaped from captivity while on a work detail in Teterow, Germany, and made his way to the allied lines in the closing weeks of the war.
He returned home from the war in 1946 and married Merlene Morris of Cornelia, Ga., who preceded him in death in 1970. He retired in the early 1980s from Myrtle Desk Co., High Point, after 40 years of service. He was an avid amateur astronomer and spent many hours observing the heavens with a self-built reflecting telescope. He did extensive genealogy work, tracing the paths of the Clinard and Welborn families and others to their roots in 15th century Europe. It was this research that prompted the return to the traditional spelling of the family name, Kleinert.
Surviving are a daughter, Carol Kleinert of Alto, Ga.; two sons, Dr. Keith Kleinert and his wife, Patti Steele, of Cornelia and Mark Clinard and his wife, Debra, of Pittsford, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Alex, Emily, Megan, all of Cornelia, Leigh and twins, Samuel and Margaret, all of Pittsford.
Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Conrad Memorial Baptist Church, High Point. Visitation will be 2 p.m. until the hour of service at the church.

Jesse Lamar

Jesse Leroy Lamar, 94, of Fritts Road died at 12:35 p.m. Dec. 13, 2000, at Lexington Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born Nov. 30, 1906, in Randolph County, a son of James Wesley Lamar and Lillie Mae Briles Lamar. He retired from Henredon Furniture Industries in High Point. He was a member of Reeds United Methodist Church and a Sunday school teacher for more than 20 years at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Thomasville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lizzie Marie Fritts Lamar, on Jan. 4, 1999.
Surviving are his two sons, Joel Lamar and his wife, Brenda, of Asheboro and Ronald Lamar and his wife, Shirley, of Greer, S.C.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel by the Rev. John Gottula and the Rev. Jim Martin. Burial will be in Reeds United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

Joe Don Lambeth, 64, of 455 Angela Drive died Dec. 13, 2000, at Community General Hospital.
He was born Oct. 21, 1936, in Davidson County, a son of Grady Lambeth and Edith Byerly Lambeth. He was a lifelong resident of this area. He was a self-employed brick mason and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. Bob (Mitzi) Barnard of High Point; a son, Chuck Lambeth of Thomasville; his mother of Thomasville; three brothers, Jerry, Kenneth and Johnny Lambeth, all of Thomasville; and two grandchildren, Bryce and Blake Barnard.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Hillis Burton. Burial will be in Walters Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. tonight at the funeral home and other times at his mother’s home, 2018 Sullivan Road.
