Archie McBride Sr., 72, of 205 Meredith St. died Dec. 11, 2000, at his residence.
He was born May 5, 1928, in Wadesboro, a son of Dock and Jennie Melton McBride. He was educated in Anson County schools. He retired from Jiffy Manufacturing. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine McBride; his daughter, Phyllis Davidson; four brothers, Haywood McBride, Lafayette McBride, Jayhe McBride and Robert McBride.
Surviving are four sons, Archie McBride Jr., Donavon McBride, Reginald McBride and Demetrius McBride, all of High Point; a brother, Lonnie McBride of Charlotte; four sisters, Miss Hattie McBride and Mrs. Myreta Hardison, both of Wadesboro, Mrs. Marietta Chapman of Charlotte and Mrs. Margaret Teal of Thomasville; five grandchildren, Catina Williams, Sherif Harrington, Tanya Hunt, Tremaine Dumas of Charlotte, and Jonica Barefield of Savannah, Ga.; five great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Hargett-Gilmore Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Thomas Marshall. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 p.m. Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

Thomas Gilles Meacham Sr., 83, of 81 Hillcrest Drive died Dec. 14, 2000.
He was born Oct. 16, 1917, in Tyro, a son of William Marvin and Carrie Giles Meacham, who both preceded him in death. He was a distinguished U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II. He was a master Mason and a member of the Numa F. Reid Masonic Lodge #344 AF&AM. For many years he was the owner and operator of Meacham Produce Co. in High Point. He was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Ruth Meacham, of High Point; two sons, Tom Meacham and his wife, Sally, of Raleigh, and Bill Meacham and his wife, Cathy, of Hickory; two grandchildren, Amber and Kristen Meacham; and his sister, Irene Koontz and her husband, Van, of Salisbury.
Funeral will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the chapel of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. Beverly E. Gaska. Entombment, with Masonic Rites, will be in Oakwook Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be 11-11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Asbury Room of the church. The body will be at Sechrest Funeral Home, E. Lexington Avenue, until placed in the chapel 30 minutes prior to the service.

William Smith

William Colen Smith, 76, of Bowers Road died at 11:42 p.m. Dec. 13, 2000, at Lexington Health Care after 11 months of declining health with cancer and five weeks of critical illness.
He was born Nov. 27, 1924, in Davidson County, a son of William Carl Smith and Hattie Crotts Smith. He was a graduate of Davis-Townsend High School and Ashmore Business College. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a postmaster after 35 years of service. He was a charter member of Central Carolina Civitans, serving as former president, lieutenant governor and was an honor key recipient. He was a member of the state and local Beekeepers Association. He was a volunteer with Special Olympics and Meals on Wheels. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II in North Africa and Italy. He was a life member of the VFW Post 3074 and American Legion Post 8.
He was a lifelong member of Mt. Tabor United Church of Christ and also a member of the Adult Sunday School Class, the Men’s Brotherhood and the choir. He was preceded in death by an infant son, William Colen Smith Jr. and a brother, Artis Smith.
Surviving are his wife, Lucille Hanes Smith of the residence; two daughters, Stephanie Allred and her husband, Rick, of Lexington and Valerie Osborne and her husband, Clint, of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren, Logan Allred and Kendal Allred, both of Lexington, and Keaton Osborne of Winston-Salem; three brothers, Baxter Smith, Edmund Smith and Boyd Smith, all of Lexington; and three sisters, Virgie Smith, Arlene Smith and Mildred Beck, all of Lexington.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Tabor United Church of Christ by the Rev. Lloyd Spencer. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites by VFW Post 3074. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Mrs. Peggie H. Suttles, 62, of 702 Northfield Ave. died Dec. 14, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born June 9, 1938, in Guilford County, a daughter of Raymond G. and Eva Childress Hodges. She resided in High Point the majority of her life. She retired from Jefferson-Pilot Insurance Co. as an auditor in 1994. She was a member of Green Street Baptist Church, the Roy Kelly Sunday School Class, and a member of the Celebration Choir of the church. On Dec. 7, 1963, she married Joe F. Suttles, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are a daughter, Susan Brookshire and her husband, Mark, of High Point; eight sisters, Mrs. Ron (Ruby) Smith of Kernersville, Mrs. Ernest (Ruth) Frady of High Point, Mrs. Lowell (Martha) Poole of Archdale, Mrs. Don (Brenda) Snow of High Point, Mrs. Tommy (Wanda) Griffin of Winston-Salem; Mrs. Walter (Ronda) Solomon of Kernersville, Mrs. Aaron (Betty) Stanley of Winston-Salem and Mrs. Gaylon (Debbie) Peel of High Point; two brothers, George Hodges of Greensboro and Bobby Hodges of Thomasville; and a grandson, Tyler Haywood Brookshire.

Samuel E. Trogdon Jr., 82, of 715 Worth St. died Dec. 14, 2000, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.
He was a graduate of Franklinville High School and attended High Point College. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served during World War II. He was a charter member of Asheboro Junior Chamber of Commerce (now Jaycees), an active member of First United Methodist Church and former president of S.E. Trogdon and Sons General Contractors. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sally Trogdon Gallasch and his brother, James O. Trogdon.
Surviving are his wife, Gladys Steed Trogdon of the residence; his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Steve Weeks of Lexington; his son and daughter-in-law, Samuel J. and Cindy Trogdon of Asheboro; seven grandchildren, Caroline Weeks Ray, Stephen Van Weeks Jr., Jonathan Samuel Weeks, Katherine Spencer Gallasch, Brandon Wells Gallasch, Sara-Elizabeth Trogdon and Kathryn L. Trogdon; two great-grandchildren, Randall Cassidy Ray and Kendall Elizabeth Weeks; two sisters, Nina T. Barone of Greensboro and Wanda T. Ilderton of High Point; and his brother, W. Robert G. “Red” Albertson Jr., 68, formerly of Meadowbrook Drive, Trinity, died Dec. 15, 2000, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salisbury.
He was born Nov. 24, 1932, in Randolph County, a son of Robert Glenn and Dorothy Robbins Albertson, who both preceded him in death. He was a lifelong resident of Randolph County. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean War. He retired from Trinity Foam Co. He was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Lucille Ridge.
Surviving are three brothers, Jesse Franklin Albertson and his wife, Jackie, Donald Ray Albertson and his wife, Sandra, and Willie Lee Albertson and his wife, Kay, all of Trinity; five sisters, Mrs. Joe (Jo) Philbeck of Lakeland, Fla., Mrs. Ann Hobson and Mrs. Shirley Probert, both of Trinity, Mrs. Garland (Georgia) Kinney of Greensboro and Mrs. David (Frances) White of Archdale.

Mrs. Mary Ann Pless Bowers, 62, of 300 Don Ave. died Dec. 14, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital after a period of declining health.
She was born May 23, 1938, in Mecklenburg County, a daughter of James Lowell and Cathelene Pethel Pless. She retired from High Point Bank and Trust Co. as a bookkeeper. She was a member of Archdale Friends Meeting, the William Penn Sunday School Class and served for 26 years as treasurer of the meeting. On Dec. 29, 1962, she was married to Donald Ray Bowers, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are two daughters, Heather Camille Bowers of High Point and Meredith Danielle Bowers of Trinity; a sister, Mrs. Gayle P. Smith and her husband, Samuel, of High Point; two brothers, James Lowell “Buddy” Pless Jr. of Trinity and Jacob Roy “Sonny” Pless II of Archdale; and a granddaughter, Jessica Elizabeth Thompson.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Archdale Friends Meeting by the Rev. Scott Wagoner. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Sechrest Funeral Service, Archdale.

Mrs. Lula Meredith Cheek, 80, formerly of Sheraton Towers, High Point, died Dec. 15, 2000, at GrayBrier Nursing and Retirement Center.
She was born May 12, 1920, in Guilford County, a daughter of David and Maude Younts Meredith. She was a homemaker and a member of Springfield Baptist Church and the Rebekah Sunday School Class. She was married to James Cheek, who preceded her in death Oct. 17, 1971. She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Meredith and Johnny Meredith.
Surviving are four brothers, Fred Meredith and Robert Meredith, both of High Point, Ralph Meredith of Thomasville and Walt Meredith of Jamestown; a special niece, Connie Meredith of Jamestown; several nieces and nephews; and four special friends, Doris Cashatt, Linda Campbell, Maxie Creasey and Chris Henry.
Funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, by the Rev. Bobby Loving. Burial will be in Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Charles Wesley Everhart, 50, of Ward Curry Road died at 6:52 p.m. Dec. 14, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center after an illness of five months.
He was born July 14, 1950, in Davidson County, a son of Johnny Virgil Everhart and Thelma Fritts Everhart, who both preceded him in death. He was employed with Fletcher Machine Co.
Surviving are his wife, Faye Younts Everhart of the residence; two daughters, Holly Leatherman and Charlotte Cope, both of Lexington; two grandchildren, Gracie Noelle Leatherman and Reece Henry Cope; three brothers, Johnny Virgil Everhart Sr., Jerry Wayne Everhart and James Everhart, all of Lexington; and three sisters, Carol Newsome, Doris Lohr and Janie Musgrave, all of Lexington.

Mrs. Grady Ruscoe Moore, 99, of Westwood Drive died Dec. 14, 2000, at her residence.
She was born June 25, 1901, in Wadesboro, a daughter of Henry Durant and Rose Pickett Ratcliff Ruscoe. She attended Woman’s College in Greensboro and High Point College. She received her master’s degree in art from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She taught school in the High Point School System. She was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and the Peacock Bible Class. She was a active member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a former member of the American Colonist. She was a member of the Earl of Shaftesbury Chapter of the Colonial Dames of the XVII Century and the High Point Historical Society. On Feb. 14, 1925, she married James Clifton Moore, who preceded her in death Feb. 22, 1974.
There are no survivors.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. C. Garland Young and the Rev. Richard J. Crowder. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. He was born Oct. 27, 1931, in Surry County, a son of James and Viola White Reid. He was a member of Friendly Gospel Baptist Church. He was the former owner and operator of Ray Reid Body Shop. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Reid and a brother W.J. Reid.
Surviving are a son, Steven Reid of Thomasville; two stepsons, Danny Gates of Thomasville and Jerry Wayne Long of High Point; a sister, Mary Claudine Ward of Jamestown; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
