Howard Sibert

Howard Sibert, 84, of 5430 Haywood Road died Jan. 4, 2001, minutes after arrival at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born June 25, 1916, in McCormick, S.C., a son of Henry and Carrie Callahan Sibert. He had lived in Trinity for 55 years. He was formerly employed in various jobs and continued to work part-time at Leach & Wagner Grocery Store. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he was a member of the deacon board and former president of the senior usher board. He was married to Rosa Martin Sibert, who preceded him in death Sept. 24, 1997. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Willie Elman Sibert and Jackson Columbus “J.C.” Sibert; and two sisters, Mazelle Williams and Emma Kate Sibert.
Surviving are a daughter, Jennie Sibert Bracken of the residence; a son, William Sibert of Clinton, Md.; five grandchildren, Angela Sibert Bracken, George Ronald Sibert, William Sibert Jr., Gray Anthony Barnhardt and Howard Jerome Sibert; several great-grandchildren among them, Ashelynne Carrie Sibert Bracken; two brothers, Henry B. Sibert and his wife, Stacey, of Trinity and Dennis Sibert of Washington, D.C.; a sister, Ethel Lee Smith of Philadelphia, Pa.; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Haizlip Funeral Chapel by the Rev. James Harris Jr. Burial will be in Carolina Biblical Gardens. Visitation will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel.
Haizlip Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Louise Smith
Virginia Beach
Mrs. Louise West Smith, 75, formerly of 131 Gate St., High Point, N.C., died Jan. 3, 2001, at the home of her daughter, Kim Henson, 4201 Dougherty Court.
She was born Feb. 17, 1925, in High Point, a daughter of Alfonzo Bundy and Annie Scott West. She was a lifelong resident of High Point. She was formerly employed with Tex-Elastic. She was a member of Trinity Assembly of God. On July 11, 1942, she married Daniel Early Smith, who preceded her in death. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Smith and two sisters, Grace Golem and Helen Spivy.
Surviving are five children, Kim Henson and her husband, Chris, of Virginia Beach, Joyce Culbreth and her husband, Robert, and Danny Smith, all of High Point, Penny Brown and her husband, Keith, of Trinity and Daniel Smith II and his wife, Kelly, of Thomasville; a sister, Shirley Ryals of Trinity; three brothers, Jimmy West of High Point, Jerry West and Ed West, both of Trinity; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, by the Rev. David Floyd. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the home of a daughter, Penny Brown, 5776 Welborn Road, Trinity.

Christine Sweeney
Lexington
Mrs. Christine Peters Sweeney, 53, died Jan. 4, 2001, at Lexington Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness.
Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Second Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be after the service in the fellowship hall.
Davidson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ophia Adams
Thomasville
Mrs. Ophia Mae Collins Adams, 67, of 8255 E. U.S. Highway 64 died Jan. 6, 2001, at 11:45 a.m. at her residence.
She was born Sept. 6, 1933, in Davidson County, a daughter of the late Rev. George Collins Sr. and Ophia Whisenant Collins. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Silver Valley Church of God and the Adult Sunday School Class at the church.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. David (Gina) Frady of the home; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Wright of Asheboro, Mrs. Peggy Loudermilk of Tallahassee, Fla., and Mrs. Frances Gailey of Fort Myers, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in J.C. Green and Sons Chapel with the Rev. Michael Reid officiating. Burial will be at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Monday and other times at the home.
Memorials may be directed to Silver Valley Church of God, 1963 Old Highway 109, Lexington, N.C. 27292.

Mrs. Terese Leonard “Granny” Beck, 91, of 608 Concord Street died Jan. 6, 2001, in High Point Regional Hospital.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in J.C. Green and Sons Chapel in Thomasville. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

Grady Byrd
Lexington
Grady Williard Byrd, 80, died Jan. 5, 2001, in Lexington Memorial Hospital.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington.

Garland Clinard
High Point
Garland Clio “Buck” Clinard, 95, of 608 Oakview Road died Jan. 6, 2001, at High Point Health Care.
He was born Jan. 18, 1905, in Guilford County, the son of Andrew Clemmons and Iris Hammer Clinard. He was a carpenter, a charter member of the Oakview Lions Club, a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church and the Men’s Sunday School Class. On Oct. 12, 1933, he married the former Anne Clodfelter, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are a son, Dudley B. Clinard of Burlington, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held by the Rev. Roland Jones. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. today at Sechrest Funeral Home in High Point.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lebanon United Methodist Church, 237 Idol Drive, High Point, N.C. 27262 or to Hospice of Winston-Salem, Forsyth County Inc., 1100-C S. Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103.

Margie Foster
Trinity
Mrs. Margie Lucille Watson Foster, 71, of 4996 Darr Road, died Jan. 4, 2001, following a hospitalization of several hours.
She was born in Siler City, a daughter of William M. Watson and Lillie Mae Brodnex Watson, who both preceded her in death. She had resided in Trinity for 50 years and was an active member of St. Mary’s United Methodist Church. She was a member and former president of the United Methodist Women. At the time of her death she was serving as vice president. She was also a member of the Chancel Choir, Prayer Band, the H. M. Penry Adult Sunday School Class and past secretary of the Administrative Board. She retired from Miller Desk Company following 151/2 years of employment. She was also self-employed as a beautician. Four brothers, William Watson, Isaac Watson, Leonard Watson and Clarence Watson, as well as two sisters, Mrs. Thelma Anthony and Ms. Callie Siler, preceded her in death.
Surviving are her husband, Raymond Foster of the home; one son, Lee Andre Foster of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Margie Jeannette Stringfellow and her husband, Willie, of Trinity; one foster daughter, Mrs. Ethel Dupree of Trinity; two grandchildren, Calandra Rogers and her husband, Rodney, and Andrea Foster; one great-granddaughter, Kayla Rogers; two sisters, Mrs. Stella Mae Siler of Siler City and Mrs. Christine Warren and her husband, Charles, of High Point. There are nieces, nephews, cousins, many treasured friends and other in-laws, including Mrs. Martha Gray, Mrs. Dorothy Foster and Ms. Mittie Watson.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Methodist Church by the Rev. Lee Bynum. Burial will follow at Trinity Cemetery. Family visitation will be 7-8 p.m. Monday at Haizlip Funeral Chapel and other times at the residence. Haizlip Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Doak Kennedy
Trinity
Doak Edward Kennedy, 95, formerly of 4113 Meadowbrook Road died Jan. 6, 2001, at Westwood Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born in Randolph County on March 5, 1905, a son of the late Charles and Nancy Elder Kennedy. He attended Hopewell United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Turner Kennedy, in 1995, and a son, Rudy Kennedy, in 1981.
Surviving are two sons, Shane Kennedy and Douglas Kennedy of Trinity; two daughters, Myra K. Stuart of Trinity and Cheryl K McNeill of High Point; one sister, Clara “Doll” Floyd of Trinity; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hopewell United Methodist Church with the Rev. Chris J. Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at Cumby Family Funeral Service.
Memorials may be directed to Center of Living, Home, Health and Hospice, P.O. Box 9, Asheboro, N.C. 27203.

Myrtle Livengood
High Point
Mrs. Myrtle Badgett Livengood, 91, formerly of 701 S. Elm Street, died Jan. 5, 2001, at the Evergreens of High Point.
She was born in Surry County on Aug. 16, 1909, a daughter of the late Jake and Bannie Davis Badgett. She was a member of Green Street Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Doluphus A. Livengood, in 1968, and two daughters, Gladys Livengood and Dorothy L. Bunn.
Surviving are a son, Hassel P. Livengood and his wife, Eula, of Yorktown, Va.; four daughters, Mrs. Bill (Bonnie) Suggs of High Point, Mrs. Gerald (Faye) Humphrey of Hope Mills, Mrs. Mike (Ronda) Prentzas of Greensboro, and Mrs. Carol Chance of Hampton, Va.; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Howard Badgett and Kenneth Badgett, both of Mt. Airy; and one sister, Mrs. Beulah Kidd of Dobson.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today from the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point by the Revs. Howard Pittman and Gene Phillips. Committal services and burial will be 4 p.m. today at the White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery in Mt. Airy. Visitation was Saturday night at the funeral home and other times at 3632 Fairlane Street in High Point.

Thelma Michael
Salisbury
Mrs. Thelma Fritts Michael, 96, of the Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks died Jan. 6, 2001, after a period of declining health.
She was born Dec. 22, 1904 in Davidson County, a daughter of George Walter and Ida Koontz Fritts. She was educated in the Davidson County Schools. She taught for several years at the N.C. Normal School, was an avid gardener and was employed at The Garden House in High Point. She was also a member of several garden clubs and hand-painted china as a hobby. She was a volunteer of the Rowan Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, the WELCA and a life member of the Lutheran Southern Seminary Auxiliary. On Dec. 24, 1924, she was married to James Archie Michael, who preceded her in death on April 14, 1989. She was also preceded in death by a son, Bobby Fritts Michael, who died in 1960.
Surviving are a son, the Rev. Don M. Michael of Salisbury; a sister, Kathleen F. Owens of Lexington; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Monday in Guilford Memorial Park in Greensboro. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church by the Rev. William H. Battermann. Visitation will follow the memorial service in the church fellowship hall.

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Cagle Waisner, 79, died Jan. 5, 2001.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Richland Baptist Church. Visitation was 7-9 p.m. at Ridge Funeral Home Saturday and at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Waisner, 6123 Old N.C. Highway 13, Asheboro.
