Barbara Rickard
High Point
Mrs. Barbara George Rickard, 63, of 401 South Road died Jan. 11, 2001, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 1, 1937, in Hackensack, N.J., a daughter of Henry and Jeanne La Montagne George. She had lived in the High Point area all of her adult life and was retired from Royals Inc. On March 21, 1953, she was married to Gary Rickard, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are two daughters, Laura Tucker of Trinity and Carol Hill of High Point; two sons, Ricky Rickard of Sophia and Randy Rickard of Madison; her mother of Victorville, Calif.; a sister Marie George of Victorville, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral in Archdale by the Rev. Houston Tilley. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the home of Laura Tucker, 5546 Rockford Drive, Trinity.

Frances Slaight
York, Pa.
Frances W. Slaight, 81, formerly of Washington, D.C., died Jan. 10, 2001, at the York County Nursing Home.
She was born Sept. 9, 1919, in Spartanburg, S.C., a daughter of Manning and Emma Thomas Williams, who preceded her in death. She was a retired receptionist for the Williams & Connolly Law Firm in Washington, where she was employed for 30 years. She was a very active member of the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church, Washington, where she sang in the choir for more than 30 years. She also was a member of the Regent Fort McHenry Daughters of American Revolution.
Surviving are three nephews and six nieces including, Eleanor Hardy of York.
Graveside service and burial will be 10 a.m. Monday in Floral Garden Park Cemetery by Dr. Harry Cole.
Memorials may be directed to New York Avenue Presbyterian Church, 1313 New York Ave., NW, Washington, D.C. 20005-4790.
Baumeister, Orcutt and Small Mortuaries, Inc., South Queen at Jackson Street, York, and Cumby Family Funeral Service, Eastchester Drive, High Point, N.C. are in charge of arrangements.

Helen Whitaker
High Point
Mrs. Helen Cates Whitaker, 83, of 2631-G Suffolk Ave. died Jan. 12, 2001, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born June 22, 1917, in High Point, a daughter of Nady Milton and Mary Florence Bullock Cates. She was previously employed with Frank Stith Clothing Co. as bookkeeper and sales lady. She was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a former member of the Dorcas Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Whitaker Jr., on June 17, 1989.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Lynn Kinley; a sister, Mrs. Mary Louise Sapp of Kernersville; a brother, Forrest L. Cates of High Point.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Floral Garden Park Cemetery by the Rev. Edwin Coyner. Visitation will be 1-6 p.m. today at the residence. The body will be at Sechrest Funeral Service on Lexington Avenue until the hour of the service.
Memorials may be directed to Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 808 N. Centennial St., High Point, N.C. 27262 or to the American Cancer Society, 4-A Oakbranch Drive, Greensboro, N.C. 27407.

Kerney Wood
Kernersville
Kerney C. Wood, 72, died Jan. 12, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center.
He was born May 8, 1928, in Davidson County, a son of Ernest and Iris Coe Wood. He was a lifelong member of High Point Church of Christ. He was a truck driver by trade and had worked for Old Dominion Trucking of High Point and Glosson Trucking of Lexington.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Betty A. Wood, of the residence; a daughter, Gina Lawing of Winston-Salem; three sons, Terry Wood of Clinton, N.J., Mark Wood of Kernersville and Ricky Wood of High Point; a sister, Lois Weavil of Lexington; a brother, Theldred Wood of High Point; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Hanes-Lineberry, Pierce Chapel. Visitation will be 2-3:30 p.m. Sunday, prior the service at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Beatrice Beeson
Sophia
Mrs. Beatrice Hill Beeson, 84, former resident of Beeson Farm Road, died Jan. 13, 2001, at Maryfield Nursing Home in High Point.
She was born June 15, 1916, in Randolph County, a daughter of William Alan and Carrie Spencer Hill. A lifelong Randolph County resident, she was a homemaker. She was a member of Marlboro Friends Meeting and the Friendly Friends Sunday School Class of the meeting.
On Nov. 28, 1935, she married Howard H. Beeson, who preceded her in death in 1976. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Beeson Kidd in 1978.
Surviving are one son, W.S. Beeson and wife, Jane, of Sophia; one sister, Mrs. Ruby Lee Hill Coltrain of Trinity; two grandchildren, Sidney Beeson and wife, Cathy, and Mrs. Sharon Beeson Blaylock and husband, David; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Marlboro Friends Meeting by Rev. John Sides and Dr. Bob Medford. Burial will be in the meeting house cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. today at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.
Memorials may be directed to the Marlboro Friends Meeting Building Fund, 2668 Marlboro Church Rd., Sophia, N.C. 27350.

Harry Belote
Archdale
Harry Lee Belote, 80, of Corina Circle died Jan. 13, 2001, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Feb. 25, 1920, in Norfolk, Va., to Charles and Joanah Williams Belote. He had been a resident of the High Point and Archdale area since 1957. He was a member of Welch Memorial United Methodist Church.
On Feb. 7, 1942, he was married to the former Louise Whitley, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are two daughters, JoAnne Belote Sheppard and husband, Ronald, of Keller, Tex. and Susan Belote Fuller of High Point; two granddaughters, Jennifer Sheppard Carter of Haslet, Tex. and Amy Sheppard Pierce of Denton, Tex.; a great-granddaughter, Kenna Nicole Pierce; and two half-sisters, Janet Belote of South Carolina and Rose Walker of Norfolk, Va.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale by Rev. Jimmie Martin. Interment will be in Guilford Memorial Park. Visitation will be 3:30-5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Della Curry
High Point
Ms. Della Christine Curry, 81, a resident of 1405 Wendell Ave. died Jan. 11, 2001, at Wesleyan Arms Nursing Care Facility where she had been a patient nine months.
She was born in Guilford County, a daughter of Lewis and Lula Smith Curry, who both preceded her in death. For many years she was employed at High Point Regional Hospital in the housekeeping department. She was of the Methodist faith.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank Curry, James Curry and Howard Curry.
Surviving are nieces and nephews, Mrs. Eloise Ross Flowers of Memphis, Tenn., Ms. Aquilla Garrison, Mrs. Diane Garrison (Stacy) Lea, Ms. Gwendolyn Garrison and Larry Garrison, all of High Point; other relatives; in-laws, including Mrs. Pauline Curry; and friends.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Haizlip Funeral Chapel by Rev. James Graves. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. Haizlip Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Beulah Everhart
Lexington
Beulah Lucille Clark Everhart, 96, died Jan. 13, 2001.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday at Pilgrim Reformed United Church of Christ. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Betty Fuquay
Greensboro
Mrs. Betty Jane Daniel Sanders Fuquay, 68, died Jan. 12, 2001, at Moses Cone Hospital.
She was retired from Krispy Kreme Doughnut Company after 30 years of service and was of the Baptist faith. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Surviving are her husband, David Matthew Fuquay; one daughter, Janice Lovern and husband, Russell, of Randleman; one son, Kenneth Wayne Sanders and wife, Kristen, of Salter Path; her mother, Elizabeth Frazier Daniel of Greensboro; one sister, Ora Mae Fields of Greensboro; four grandchildren, Allan Trotter, Josh Trotter, Ken Sanders and Mitchell Sanders; and special friends, Haden and Thelma Lovern of High Point, Jan Davenport, Joyce Jordan and Melvin Johnson.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel. Interment will be at Guilford Memorial Park.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Hubbard George
Archdale
Hubbard Grayson “Hub” George, 78, a resident of Sylvia Street, went to be with the Lord Jan. 13, 2001, at his residence.
He was born in High Point on Jan. 20, 1922, a son of Charlie Lee and Mary Jane Lawson George. He was an Army veteran of WWII, serving in the 9th Air Force. He worked at High Point Paper Box and retired from Montgomery Paper Box Co.
He was married to Faye Hepler George, who died in 1997. He was a member of Archdale Friends Meeting. Hub was a friend to all and loved by many.
Surviving are a son, Don W. George and his wife, Tammy, of Cut Bank, Mont.; three brothers, Ernest F. George and his wife, Virginia, of Union Cross, Penn., Lloyd F. George and his wife, JoAnn, of High Point and James Edward George of Virginia Beach, Va.; a sister, Mrs. Peggy Ann Kurtz of High Point; two special friends, Phyllis George and Brad Curby of Archdale; and two grandchildren, Jennifer Simpson and her husband, Christopher, and Kaitlyn George.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Scott Wagoner. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until the service hour at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to Archdale Friends Meeting, 114 Trindale Rd., Archdale, N.C. 27263.

Hilda Elizabeth Creasy Haley, 81, died Jan. 12, 2001.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Forest Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 12:30-1:30 p.m. Monday prior to the service at Davidson Funeral Home.
