Paul D. Danforth, 79, died Jan. 15, 2001, at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach, Fla.
He was born Feb. 9, 1921, in Old Town, Maine. He was a resident of Sebastian since January 1979, moving from Fremont, N.H. He attended the University of Maine. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, serving as a 1st Lt. He retired from Eastern Airlines as a pilot, with 35 years of service. He was a member of the Hump Pilots Association, VFW, American Legion, Retired Eastern Airline Pilots Association, EAL Retirees Association and the Treasure Coast Chapter of the Florida Aero Club. He attended and was faithful to the Riverside Church Assembly of God in Sebastian.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Bonnie Danforth; four daughters, Sherry Thornsbury of Trinity, N.C., Debra Danforth and Susan Stetson, both of Fellsmere, Fla., and Paula Graham of Raymond, N.H.; and four grandchildren.
Outdoor riverside memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Friday at Riverside Church Assembly of God, 11205 Roseland Road, by the Rev. Thomas Kempf and the Rev. Bernie VanEyck.

Ruth Evelyn Crume Jacobs, 84, of Old U.S. 29 North died Jan. 15, 2001, at her residence after an extended illness.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Lauderdale Memorial Park, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Eunice Smith Lane, 87, of 1700 Guilford College Road died Jan. 14, 2001, at Wesley Long Nursing Center in Jamestown.
She was a native of Perquimans County, a daughter of Warren and Annie Copeland Smith, who both preceded her in death. She was a member of Bagley Swamp Wesleyan Church. She was married to Grant Lee Lane, who also preceded her death.
Surviving are a daughter, Eleanor Bullman of Jamestown; a son, Jimmy L. Lane of Haynesville, Va.; a sister, Lessie Onley of Elizabeth City; a brother, Johnnie Smith of Winfall; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Swindell Funeral Home Chapel, Hertford. Burial will be in Cedar Wood Cemetery, Hertford.
Lena Little
High Point
Mrs. Lena Rumple Little, 87, of Ardmore Circle died Jan. 16, 2001, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Jan. 19, 1913, in Statesville, a daughter of John and Dora Troutman Rumple. A longtime Cleveland resident, she retired from Fiber Industries in 1978. She moved to High Point in 1989 to be closer to her family and helped her daughter operate the Dog House restaurant. She was a member of Cleveland Methodist Church and High Point YWCA. She was preceded in death by her husband, A.C. Little.
Surviving are a daughter, Jean L. Freedle of High Point; three granddaughters, Chris W. Amos of High Point, Jennifer W. White of West Orange, N.J., and Courtney Jean Freedle of High Point; two great-grandsons, Matthew D. Amos and Trevor M. White; a sister, Lou R. Bruns of Falls Church, Va.; and a brother, Bill Rumple of Odenton, Md.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jill Auman. Visitation will be 12:30 p.m. until the hour of service Friday at the funeral home.

McKenzie Joye Poston, infant daughter of Courtney and Robert Poston Jr., died at birth Jan. 13, 2001, at Wolfson Children’s Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla.
Surviving are her parents; her maternal grandparents, Muriel and Craig Lewellyn of Durham, N.C.; paternal grandparents, Catherine and Barry Mendenhall of High Point, N.C., and Robert R. Poston of High Point; maternal great-grandparents, Muriel Murray of Ramsey, N.J., and LaVon and Clifford Lewellyn of Humboldt, Iowa; paternal great-grandparents, Elizabeth Poston of Thomasville, N.C., and Nell Mendenhall of High Point; aunts and an uncles, Dariele and Eric Burchfield of Durham and Courtney Mendenhall of High Point; two great aunts, Mildred Hawkes of Upper Saddle River, N.J., and Rada Poston of High Point; and a cousin, Hannah Burchfield of Durham.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Floral Garden Park Cemetery, High Point, by the Rev. Timothy Williford.

Mrs. Mary Grubb Stiles, 80, formerly of 1011 Springwood Lane, died Jan. 15, 2001, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born July 25, 1920, in Guilford County, a daughter of Pearlie and Oma Bates Grubb. She resided in Conway, S.C., prior to moving to Archdale in 1987. She retired from Atlantic Research Corporation in 1981. She was a member of Hilliard Memorial Baptist Church. On Nov. 4, 1944, she was married to James D. Stiles, who preceded her in death May 3, 1993.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Randy (Judy) Richardson of Bristol, Tenn., and Ms. Dreama Pitman of Salt Lake City, Utah; a sister, Mrs. Betty Flynn of High Point; three grandsons, C.J. Pitman, Eddie Pitman and James Overdorff; and a great-grandson, Austin Overdorff.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Hilliard Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Raymond Needham. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Grace Ward

Mrs. Grace Edith Yarborough Ward, 97, formerly of 105 Cornell Drive, High Point, died at 2:15 p.m. Jan. 15, 2001, at GrayBrier Nursing and Retirement Center.
She was born Jan. 30, 1903, in Davidson County, a daughter of Alphaus Aaron and Barbara Frances Beall Wheeler Yarborough, who both preceded her in death. She was a resident of High Point most of her life. She was a homemaker. She was a charter member of Hilliard Memorial Baptist Church where she was a pianist for many years and a member of the Worldwide Adult Sunday School Class. She was married to William “Roby” Ward, who preceded her in death February of 1972. She also was preceded in death by her daughter, June Bivins; and two grandchildren, Gary Bivins and Cathy Bivins Johnson.
Surviving are a daughter, Evelyn Ward Hutchens of Winston-Salem; two sons, Wendell R. Ward and his wife, Jackie, of Thomasville and Ronald W. Ward and his wife, Glenda, of Archdale; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces; and nephews.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Hilliard Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. John Allard and the Rev. Ray Hamilton. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, and other times at the residence of Ronald Ward, 204 Rivermeade Drive, Archdale.

Mrs. Linda Clay Barnes, 50, of 2921 Tall Cedar Lane died Jan. 17, 2001, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.
She was born March 11, 1950, in Marlboro County, S.C., a daughter of Charlie Franklin and Stella Billings Clay. She was a 1968 graduate of Sumner High School in Greensboro. She was presently employed with the Piedmont Triad Airport Authority, communication department, as a telecommunicator. She was a professional hairdresser, having been associated with Kat’s Hair Salon in Sophia and The Hair Salon of Archdale. She was previously employed with Rice Hosiery Line. She was a volunteer EMT with High Point Rescue. On March 22, 1970, she was married to Robert Barnes, who survives of the residence. She was preceded in death by her father Sept. 25, 1993.
Also surviving are a daughter, Kellie Y. Barnes of Greensboro; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark L. and Michelle W. Barnes of Thomasville; her mother of the residence; a sister, Mrs. Janice “Jan” Hilton and her husband, Keith, of Randleman; and four grandchildren, Courtland Kelley, Brook L. Barnes, Zachary L. Barnes and Abigail B. Barnes.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, by the Rev. Dale Johnston and the Rev. J.R. Gossett. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-9 tonight at the funeral home.
