Mr. Fred Richard Royals, 75, of 617 Birmingham Ave., died Jan. 19, 2001 in New Hanover Regional Hospital in Wilmington.

Mrs. Elzie Pitts Berrier, 106, of Midway School Road died Jan. 17, 2001, at Britthaven of Davidson Nursing Center.

Ann Cecil

Mrs. Ann Beck Cecil, 74, of 2219 Chestnut Drive died Jan. 17, 2001, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem after four years of declining health.
She was born Aug. 2, 1926, in Guilford County, a daughter of Walter and Tina Harris Beck. She was a homemaker. She was a lifelong resident of High Point and Davidson County. She was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. She was a former youth counselor of MYF and also a former director with the 4-H programs in Davidson County. On March 10, 1947, she was married to Roland Edward Cecil, who survives of Maryfield Nursing Home.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Buddy (Becky) Handy of 2225 Chestnut Drive and Dr. Tina Cecil of 2219 Chestnut Drive; a son, Fred Edward Cecil of 3829 Chestnut Drive Extension; a sister, Mrs. Lucille Beck of 2227 Chestnut Drive; and a brother, Walter Jack Beck of 3306 Rolling Road; and six grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church by the Rev. B. Joe Parker. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Eastchester Drive, until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and other times at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Becky Handy.

Surviving are a stepson, Douglas Eugene (Margaret) Tyson of Thomasville; and a host of other relatives, including the Medley and Ledbetter families.

John Dickey Sr.

John William Dickey Sr., 83, of 5825 Mendenhall Road died at 6:28 a.m. Jan. 17, 2001, at High Point Regional Hospital after a short illness.
He was born May 18, 1917, in Boston, Mass., a son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Dickey. He was a resident of Trinity since 1954. He retired from Womack Radio Supply as manager. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II. He was an avid photographer. He was a member of Gospel Baptist Church and Sunday school. In 1979 he was married to Lorena Fowler, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are a son, John William Dickey Jr. of Browns Summit; and two grandchildren, Juliet Dickey and John William Dickey III.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, by the Rev. Bobby G. Edwards and the Rev. Grayson A. King. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Aubrey Brooks “Buddy” Myers, 80, of Maegeo Drive died Jan. 17, 2001, at Lexington Memorial Hospital.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home and other time at the residence.
Reuben Potter

Reuben Roosevelt Potter, 75, of 701 S. Elm St. died Jan. 17, 2001, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.
He was born April 22, 1925, in Avery County, a son of Harrison William and Nora Alice Mann Potter. He retired from Face Craft Veneer Co. after 30 years of service. He was of the Pentecostal faith.
Surviving are two sons, Michael Potter and his wife, Sheila, of High Point and Roger Dale Potter and his wife, Angie, of Julian; a sister, Mrs. Anna Vines of High Point; four grandchildren, Chris, Joshua, Jordan and Jaired Potter; and a great-granddaughter, Amber Potter.
Memorial service will be held at a later date.

Patrick James Tonsor, 66, of 118 Bramton Court died Jan. 16, 2001, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
He was born Nov. 11, 1934, in Mitchell, Ill, a son of Steven Tonsor Sr. and Rose Mary Schmidt Tonsor. He attended Our Lady of Mercy for 15 years. He retired from Owens’ Brockway, with 35 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Cairns Tonsor; two sons, Tom Tonsor and his wife, Dinah, of Winston-Salem and Tim Tonsor and his wife, JoAnn, of Trinity; three grandchildren, Tracey Tonsor and Brandi Tonsor, both of Winston-Salem, and Alyssa Tonsor of Trinity; four brothers, Steven Tonsor Jr. of Michigan, Bernard Tonsor, Gerald Tonsor and Edward Tonsor, all of Illinois; two sisters, Mary Jean Jarvis and Katherine Warden, both of Illinois; and a first cousin, Ray Maag of Illinois.
Mass of Christian burial will be 3:30 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of Mercy by Father Jo Barry Angelini. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 1:30-3 p.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home-Hickory Tree Chapel and other times at the residence.

Bracy Harold Welch, 69, of 609 Melrose Ave. died at 9 p.m. Jan. 16, 2001, at his residence after a short illness.
He was born May 7, 1931, in Guilford County, a son of Bracy Otis and Esther Vuncannon Welch. He was a lifelong resident of High Point and a retired contractor. He was a former member of Albertson Road Baptist Church. He was a member of Loyal Order of High Point Moose Lodge #693 and honorary member of the American Legion.
Surviving are a son, Michael Lee Welch and his wife, Cindy, of 4388 Valley View Road, Thomasville; two daughters, Mrs. Vicki Miller and her husband, Greg, of 118 Penny Road, Jamestown, and Mrs. Teresa Butler of Lexington; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, by the Rev. Carroll M. Upton. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and other times at the residence of her daughter on Penny Road.

John Akers

Mr. John Arthur Akers, 86, of 704 Fred Miller Road, died January 20, 2001 at his residence.
He was born Dec. 11, 1914 in Sheffield City, England, a son of the late Alfred and Annie Hallan Akers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Lamb Akers, who died Dec. 19, 1985. He spent seven years in an apprenticeship in the steel industry and worked for Woodhouse & Rixon for 51 years. During World War II when Sheffield was being bombed, he was a volunteer firefighter, putting out fires during the bombing. He came to the United States in 1995 and resided with this daughter and son-in-law, Maureen and Billy Ray Hughes, who survive him.
Also surviving are nieces, Sandra Dunn, Valerie, Eilleen and Ann, and nephew, Reginald, and several great nieces and nephews in England.

Mrs. Hazel Hodge Brown, 77, of Mt. Vista Health Park, died Jan. 18, 2001 in Lexington Health Care Center.
She was born June 2, 1923 in Surry County, a daughter of the late Herbert McKinley Hodge and Jettie Cox Hodge. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She was married to Garnie Brown, who preceded her in death in 1997. She was also preceded in death by a stepson, William Leo Brown Sr., and two brothers, Raymond M. Hodge and Grady Hodge.
Surviving are a daughter, Ms. Jettie Grace Brown of Centreville, MD; five sons, Thomas P. Combs and wife Glenda of Archdale, Eugene S. Combs and wife Shirley of Elkin, Henry L. Brown of Greensboro, James R. Brown and wife Patty of Trinity and Garnie D. Brown of Centreville, MD; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Paul (Louise) Watson of Centreville, MD, Ms. Linda Lucille Settle of Walnut Grove, NC and Ms. Judy Marie Brown Moore of Thomasville; one stepson, Willie Edward Brown of Church Hill, MD; two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Faye) Hester of Thomasville and Mrs. Mary Ruth King of Lexington; four brothers, Harvey Hodge of Tyro, Paul Hodge of Elkin, Herbert T. Hodge and Coy B. Hodge, both of Thomasville; 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 18 step-grandchildren, 20 step-great-grandchildren and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Monday in J.C. Green & Sons Chapel by the Rev. Steve Livengood. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation 7-9 p.m. tonight at the funeral home and at other times at the home of the son, James R. Brown, 604 Trindale Rd., Trinity.
