Mrs. Bertha Lee Woods Harmon, 81, died Friday in Liberty Wood Nursing Center.
Funeral will be 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Brown New Calvary Baptist Church by the Rev. Timothy Bridges. Burial will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Thomasville City Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church 30 minutes before the service and other times at the home of her son, the Rev. Robert Harmon, 720 Doak Street.

Mr. Alexander Thomas Hyatt, 94, of Sycamore Street, died Jan. 20, 2001 at his home.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel by the Rev. Joe Smith. Burial will be in Heath Community Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home and at other times at the home on 302 Sycamore St.

Mr. Terry “T.D.” Delorian Ingold, 77, died Jan. 20, 2001 at his home after a lengthy illness.
He was born Nov. 17, 1923 in Pike County, KY, a son of the late Terry D. and Ollie Boggs Ingold Sr. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Theater with the U.S. Army. Before retiring, he was employed with W.H. Sullivan Plumbing Co. and was a member of Archdale United Methodist Church. On April 4, 1942, he married the former Doris Culler, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are daughters and son-in-laws, Regina and Richard Terrell of Fuquay-Varina, Terry and Larry Gates of Trinity; son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Debra Ingold of Cary; grandchildren, Brian and Pam Terrell, Kim and Clif Roseman, Ashley and Mark Rogers, David and Amber Gates, Darrell and Erin Gates, Tricia and Jeff Rogers and Peter and Christy Ingold and five great grandchildren and two nieces.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, by the Rev. Mary John Dye. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Lillie Belle Williams Martin, 82, died Jan. 20, 2001 in Charlotte.
She was born May 21, 1918 in Moore County, the daughter of George and Lydia Ann Garner Williams.
Surviving are sons James W. Martin of Charlotte and George Martin of High Point; daughter, Joyce Helms of Charlotte, three sisters, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Macedonia Presbyterian Church by the Rev. June Johnson Manning. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Thomas Raymond Miller, 67, of Ocean Blvd., West, died Jan. 20, 2001 at his residence.
He was born June 12, 1933 in Guilford County, a son of the late Dr. Walter J. and Anna Atwood Miller. He was preceded in death by a daughter Tracey James Miller in 1970.
He attained his formal education from Duke University and the University of Virginia, and went on to teach at Ragsdale High School in Jamestown and Petersburg High School in Petersburg, Va. He then became principal of Powhatan County Schools and Huguenot High School in Richmond. He then retired as the superintendent of Franklin City Schools in Franklin, Va. He was a member of the Holden Beach Chapel.
Survivors are a wife, Sandra James Miller; two daughters, Sandra M. Atkinson and husband, Richard of Franklin, Va., Elizabeth M. Joslin and husband, Dr. Scott Joslin of Asheville; a brother, Walter James Miller and wife Billee of Mt. Airy; two sisters, Jerry M. Dowdey and husband Carl of Charlotte, Kitty M. Coble and husband Howard of High Point; and four grandchildren, Miller and Jamie Atkinson, and Erin Thomas and Colleen Joslin.
Memorial service will be noon Saturday in the Holden Beach Chapel by Dr. John Gray and Dr. Richard Crowder. Memorials may be made to the Holden Beach Chapel, “Building Fund,” Holden Beach, N.C. 28462, or Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1406 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, N.C. 28401.

Mr. Ralph Poole, 80, died Jan. 17, 2001 in Manor Care Nursing Facility in Pinehurst.

Mrs. Pauline Hubbard Phillips, 68, of 701 E. Green St., died Jan. 19, 2001 at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born March 10, 1932 in Wythe County, Va., the daughter of Detroit and Ruby Chrisley Rogers. She was formerly employed as a nurses aide at Triad Manor and retired from High Point Regional Hospital. She was preceded in death by two sons, Lee Wayne Hudson and Charles E. Hudson, a daughter, Iva Mae Hudson and a sister, Mary Lee Bates.
Surviving are her husband, Grover Phillips of High Point, two sons, Frank Hudson Jr. and Billy Wayne Hubbard, both of High Point; five daughters, Caroline Caldwell and husband Eddie of Pulaski, Va., Ruby Walden and husband Wayne of High Point, Becky Hudson of High Point, Vada Pigg and husband John of Tarboro, and Kathy Ann Hill and husband Timmy of High Point; three sisters, Ellen Kidd of Pulaski, Va.; Sue Coffee and Nancy Davis, both of Max Meadows, Va.; seven brothers, Roy, Glenn, Cecil and Lonnie Rogers, all of Max Meadows, Va., Graham and James Rogers of Richmond, Va., and Troy Rogers of Blacksburg, Va.; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Danny McMahan. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. tonight at the funeral home and at other times at the homes of Kathy Hill, 303 Amhurst Street and Ruby Walden, 1108 Nathan Hunt Drive.
Daisy Raphael

Mrs. Daisy Lightner Raphael, 77, of 407 Vail Ave., died Jan. 19, 2001 following an illness of eight weeks and 2 1/2 years of overall declining health.
She was born March 15, 1923 in High Point, a daughter of James and Bessie Hammonds Lightner, both of whom preceded her in death. She was a lifelong resident of High Point and a 1942 graduate of William Penn High School. She was last employed as a sander at Myrtle Desk Company. A faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church, she was a member of the senior choir, the gospel choir and the Blue Ribbon Missionary Circle. She was a member of the East Side Senior Citizens Club, Church Women United, and former Board member of the now closed Bethune Branch YWCA. She canvassed tirelessly in the effort to establish a street named in memory of Martin Luther King Jr. Fraternally, she was a member of Abdallah Court No. 166, Daughters of Isis. Two sisters, Mary L. Blackwell and Beatrice L. Palmer, and two brothers, Zebedee Lightner and Nelson Lightner, all preceded her in death.
She has devoted her life to volunteering and helping others. She was a frequent volunteer at High Point Regional Hospital, Evergreens Nursing Center, Daniel Brooks Day Care, Women’s Shelter, Children’s Palace, Elm Towers, Salvation Army, Boys and Girls Clubs and Carson Stout, where she was a foster grandmother. She also volunteered in the “Just Say No” (to drugs) program. In 1991, United Services for Older Adults honored her as High Point Citizen of the Year. She received the Governor’s Award for Outstanding Volunteer services in 1989, under the leadership of Gov. James G. Martin. Then, in 1993, Gov. James B. Hunt awarded her a certificate of appreciation for volunteer service.
Survivors are a daughter, Deborah Lightner Squirewell of the home; one grandson, James K. Squirewell of Greensboro; a brother, Aaron (Sarah) Lightner of High Point; and son-in-law, James M. Squirewell of Greensboro, along with several nieces and nephews, among them, Betty Lightner (Edward) Davis, who was more like a daughter, along with numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church by Rev. Thomas Avant and Dr. George A. Jones Jr. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery. Visitation will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church and at other times at the residence. Haizlip Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Billy Tharpe, 67, of June Lane, died Jan. 19, 2001 at his home after declining health of five years.
