Mrs. Beulah Lee Dorsett Loflin, 69, of 6853 Old Post Office Road died Jan. 29, 2001, at Randolph Memorial Hospital in Asheboro.
She was born July 18, 1931, in Randolph County, a daughter of Jefferson A. Dorsett and Myrtle Hoover Dorsett, who both preceded her in death. She was a lifelong resident of Randolph County. She was a former employee with Trindale Elementary School and was a homemaker. She was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Randolph County and a former Sunday school teacher. On Oct. 20, 1950, she was married to Avery Eugene Loflin, who preceded her in death Feb. 25, 1995. She also was preceded in death by her sister, Mrs. Bertie Dorsett Neal.
Surviving are two sons, Harold Eugene Loflin and his wife, Mary, of Thomasville and Dwight Lee Loflin and his wife, Darlene, of Trinity; a sister, Miss Gracie Dorsett of Trinity; and two grandsons, Jack Loflin and Brett Loflin.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel by the Rev. Bonnie Harris and the Rev. Douglas Stevens. Burial will be in Westfield Baptist Church Cemetery in Randolph County. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home and other times at their respective homes.

Mrs. Margaret B. Moldin, 79, of 2338 English Road died Jan. 30, 2001, at her residence.

Paul Pearce

Paul Cowan Pearce, 89, of Park Street, Astor Dowdy Apartments, died Jan. 29, 2001, at the Brian Center in Salisbury.
He was born Nov. 29, 1911, in Dillon County, S.C., a son of James Colon Pearce and Nellie Stanton Pearce. He retired from Motor Freight Lines as a terminal manager. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, having served during World War II and was held as a prisoner of war.
Surviving are five sisters, Mrs. Jane Nelson of Clinton, Mrs. Ruby Tyler of Winston-Salem, Mrs. Erin McCullough of Xenia, Ohio, Mrs. Hazel Allen of Piedmont, S.C., Miss Ann Pearce of Asuncion, Paraguay; and a brother, the Rev. Pat Pearce of Hickory.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Sechrest Chapel, E. Lexington Avenue, by the Rev. Pat Pearce. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday after the service.

Dr. James Rogers

James H. Rogers, (Col. USAF, Retired), 73, died Jan. 28, 2001.
He was born Nov. 23, 1927 in Mooresville. He graduated from Mooresville High School in 1945. He served his country in the military for 33 years. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a dental lab technician from 1945 to 1949. He earned his under graduate degree from his beloved University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1951, and graduated from its Dental School in 1955. Upon graduation, he entered the U.S. Air Force and served 18 years as a General Dental Officer and 12 years as a Dental Staff Officer. In 1966, he attended the Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Va., which is operated under the direct supervision of the Joint Chiefs of Staff for officers and key civilian of the United States and Allied Nations. He served in Vietnam during the Tet Offensive in 1968-1969.
He was a highly decorated for exceptional and meritorious conduct and outstanding service to his country. He received the following awards: Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Good Conduct, Humanitarian Service, World War II Victory Medal, National Defense Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Medal and the Air Force Organizational Award. He retired from Eglin Air Force Base, Fort Walton Beach, Fla., in 1984 and moved back to North Carolina in 1987.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Peggy Johnson Rogers; His four sons, Ronald E. Rogers and his wife, Dana, of Salisbury, Karl R. “Rusty” Rogers and his wife, Robin Raymer, of Pittsboro, Dr. Patrick Rogers and his wife, Rachel, of Jamestown and Michael T. Rogers and his wife, Anita, of Cullowhee; his daughter, Nancy R. Pomeranz and her husband, Jim, of Cary; nine grandchildren, Steve, James, Chris, Lauren, Emily, Jordan, Salem, Mollie and Madison; two sisters, Mary R. Brawley and Ella Mae Cruse of Mooresville; his brother; Paul E. Roger and his wife, Barbara, of Fayetteville and Joseph F. Rogers of Mooresville.
Celebration of Life will be 11 a.m. Thursday, with full military honors at McEwen Funeral Service Charlotte Chapel. Burial will be in Sharon Memorial Park. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Rose Toliver

Mrs. Rose Cox Toliver, 97, formerly of Tipton Street died Jan. 29, 2001, at Piedmont Christian Home.
She was born May 9, 1903, in Sparta, a daughter of Robert and Florence Lawrence Cox. She was formerly employed with A&L Hosiery Mills as an inspector and attended English Road Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Toliver, and two sons, Robert and Donald Toliver.
Surviving are a son, Charles Toliver of Lexington; a sister, Dottie Mills of Baltimore; six grandchildren, Bonnie Turner of High Point, Michelle Austin of Thomasville, Kayla Toliver of Lexington, Tori Tolliver, Lori Tolliver and Trudi Toliver, all of Johnson City, Tenn.; and two great-grandchildren, Brandon Turner of High Point and Haley Austin of Thomasville.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jay Lambeth. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Aaron Devon Warren, 48, of 4281 Mecum Place Road died Jan. 29, 2001, at his residence.
Funeral will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, Kernersville. Visitation will be 7-8 p.m. Thursday at the church and other times at the residence of his mother, Mrs. Lucille Warren, 322 Nelson St., Kernersville.

Mrs. Sue Alzy Lawson Warren, 102, formerly of 302 Green Oak Drive, High Point, died Jan. 30, 2001, at Graybrier Retirement Center.
She was born Dec. 29, 1898, in Patrick County, Va., a daughter of Joseph A. and Nannie Rogers Lawson, who both preceded her in death. She was a lifelong resident of Guilford County and was employed with Crown Hosiery Mill as a looper. She was a member of Allen Jay Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Major Lee Warren; her son, Herbert Clark Warren; a brother, Raymond O. Lawson; and two sisters, Mary George and Lillie Medlin.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas Warren of Trinity and Robert L. Warren of Greensboro; her daughter, Arlie Reid “Nannie” Mann of High Point; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, by the Rev. Roger Carmichael. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 12:30 p.m. until the hour of service Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Iris Rich Alexander, 71, of 2205 N. Elm St. died Jan. 20, 2001, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Clinton. She was a 1949 graduate of Greensboro College. She was employed as a radiology technician at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Lumberton. She served as president of Robeson County Medical Auxiliary and the Browser’s Book Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde Russell and Lucille Collins Rich; her husband, Dr. Joseph Black Alexander; and a brother, Cloud Rich.
Surviving are two sons, Dr. Stephen Alexander and his wife, Karen, of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Dr. James Alexander and his wife, Anna Merritt, of Virginia Beach, Va.; two daughters, Jody Alexander and her husband, Ron, of High Point and Beth Alexander Berne and her husband, Dabney, of Florence, S.C.; and six grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church by the Rev. Russell T. Cherry and the Rev. Joe Bounds. Burial will be private at a later date. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Floyd Mortuary and Crematory Inc.

Roland Cecil

Roland Edward Cecil, 76, of 2219 Chestnut St. died at 12:30 a.m. Jan. 29, 2001, at Maryfield Nursing Home after declining health of several months.
He was born June 16, 1924, in High Point, a son of Otis Wayne and Bertha Moore Cecil. He was a resident of High Point and Thomasville most of his life and a retired owner and operator of Tar Heel Paving Co. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in World War II with the 87th Division Golden Acorn attached to the 3rd Army. He was a master marksman and received the American Theater Service Medal, EAME Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
He was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, Men’s Bible Class, charter member of Methodist Men, former trustee and served on various boards and committees. He was a former board member of Hasty Fire Department and served as president of the North Carolina Utility Contractor Association 1984-1985. On March 10, 1947, he was married to Ann Beck, who preceded him in death Jan. 17, 2001.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Buddy (Becky) Handy of 2225 Chestnut St. and Dr. Tina Cecil of 2219 Chestnut St.; a son, Fred Edward Cecil of 3829 Chestnut St. Extension; a brother, the Rev. J. Harley Cecil of Butner; and six grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church by the Rev. B. Joe Parker. Burial will be in the church cemetery with full military rites by the Randolph County Honor Guard. The body will be at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Eastchester Drive until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Becky Handy.
