Rev. Henry Hicks

The Rev. Henry James Hicks of 1028 Montlieu Ave. died Jan. 26, 2001, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was a native of Marlboro County, S.C. He was an employee of Leggett & Platt Inc. for many years. He was associate pastor of Living Water Baptist Church of which Aldoph Thomas is the founder.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Carolyn B. Hicks, of the residence; his daughter, Nicole Patrice Hicks of High Point; his son, Tony Sanders of Thomasville; a brother, Mr. Willie J. Hicks of High Point; a sister, the Rev. Addie Collins of High Point; and a grandchild.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Living Water Baptist Church by the Rev. Adolph Thomas. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:30 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the church prior to the service.

Maybell Shepherd
Greensboro
Mrs. Maybell Faircloth Shepherd, 87, of 1610 Glenside Drive died Jan. 28, 2001, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
She was born Nov. 14, 1913, in Harnett County, a daughter of John Calvin Faircloth and Lovie Moore Faircloth. She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and an enthusiastic member of the Goodwill Community Club. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, John H. Shepherd and their son, William D. Shepherd.
Surviving are two daughters, June Callahan of McLeansville and Faye Banks of Greensboro; a son, Richard Shepherd and his wife, Mildred, of Greensboro; a daughter-in-law, Margaret Shepherd Carr of Sanford; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm Street Chapel by the Rev. Larry Pugh. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Park.

Mrs. Rose Cox Toliver, 97, formerly of Tipton Street died Jan. 29, 2001, at Piedmont Christian Home.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Eva Willard

Mrs. Eva People Willard of 2536 Willard Dairy Road died Jan. 28, 2001, at her residence.
She was born in Guilford County, a daughter of Gene Peoples and Mary Nugent Peoples. She retired from Cunningham Yam Co. and was of the Methodist faith. On Aug. 22, 1946, she married Jesse Monroe Willard, who preceded her in death Oct. 10, 1985.
Surviving are nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be 3 p.m. today in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Winston-Salem by the Rev. Terry Moore.

She was employed with the High Point Housing Authority.

Mrs. Donna Jones Gleason Morgan, 47, of 311 Harbor Trace, died Jan. 21, 2001.
She was born April 20, 1953 in Guilford County, a daughter of Billy G. and Nan J. Jones. She spent most of her life in the High Point area and was a member of Lexington Avenue Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, J.E. “Rusty” Morgan Jr. of the home, two children, Chad Gleason of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Erica Gleason of Archdale; two sisters, Delores Fowler and her husband Bob of High Point and Debbie Williams and her husband Alan of Archdale.
Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday from the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, by the Rev. John Allard and Rev. Ray Hamilton. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and at other times at the home of her parents, 1022 Springwood Lane, Archdale.

Mr. Carl Robbie Nance, 90, formerly of Lexington, died Jan. 20, 2001 at Meadowbrook Manor of Clemmons.
Funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Reformed United Church of Christ by the Rev. Mike Hooper. Burial will be in Forest Hill Memorial Park. Visitation Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. in the church parlor.

Mr. Fred Richard Royals, 75, of 617 Birmingham Ave., died Jan. 19, 2001 in New Hanover Regional Hospital in Wilmington.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. today in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery by the Rev. Van E. Brinkley.
Gladys Combs
High Point
Mrs. Gladys Cox Combs died Jan. 28, 2001, at the home of her daughter, Kelly Walker, of 1103 Brookwood Drive.
She was born July 28, 1909, in Stokes County, a daughter of Robert F. Perry Wilkes Cox. She had been a resident of High Point since 1926 and was a former resident of 901 E. Farriss Ave. In 1926, she married C. Mack Combs, who preceded her in death in 1955. She also was preceded in death by four sisters, Lillian Smith, Alma McKinney, Ida Covington and Rachel Robinson; one brother, Dewey F. Cox; and a son-in-law, Knox Walker. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, the Women’s Wesley-Character Builders Class, Circle No. 3 and the Young at Heart Club. For 16 years, she was employed in the nursery at High Point Regional Hospital and was last employed as co-owner of Lad ’N’ Lassie Nursery of Gatewood Avenue.
In addition to her daughter, she is survived by two sons, Newberry F. Combs and wife Shirley of Greensboro and Johnny W. Combs and wife Sandy of Fayetteville; three grandchildren, Kimberly Walker Bryan and husband Robert of Raleigh, Donna Combs Carter and husband of Richmond, Va., and Kevin Combs and wife Bobbie of Fayetteville; and four great-grandchildren, Joshua Combs, Bo and Stuart Bryan and Casey Combs.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Christ United Methodist Church by Dr. Glenn Myers, the Rev. Lloyd Hunsucker and the Rev. Frank Sandy. A private burial service will be at Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be in the church parlor immediately following the service. Sechrest Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
