Annie Thompson

Mrs. Annie Louise Griffin Thompson, 78, of 558 Ward Road died Jan. 31, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
She was born Feb. 23, 1922, in Guilford County, a daughter of Luther and Mary Sechrest Griffin. She was employed for many years as a waitress at Bob Petty’s Oakwood Drive-in in Greensboro. She was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II. She was a member of AMVETS Post #240 and the Women’s Memorial Association. She was of the Baptist faith. She was married to Zane Furr Thompson, who preceded her in death in 1972. She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Will Griffin and Ervin Griffin.
Surviving are three sons, Bobby Thompson and his wife, Diane, of Denton, Michael Thompson and his wife, Sandy, of Yanceyville and Jeff Thompson of Greensboro; four sisters, Mrs. Betty Yow and Mrs. Madge Cook, both of High Point, Mrs. Billie Robinson of Morganton and Mrs. Nancy Harris of Lexington; two brothers, Joseph L. Griffin of Stafford, Va., and Sonny Griffin of Jamestown; and three grandchildren, Paige, Ransom and Maria Thompson; and a great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery by the Rev. Claudie Harrison. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Sechrest Funeral Service, Archdale.

Gideon “Gid” Woodrow Deaton, 85, of 537 Mask Road died Feb. 13, 2001, at 1st Health Montgomery Memorial Hospital.
He was born Nov. 2, 1915, in Montgomery County, a son of John H. and Dovie Troutman Deaton, who both preceded him in death. He retired from Jordan Lumber Co., where he worked in security. He was a previous owner of Deaton Upholstery in Thomasville, for a number of years. He was a member of Hammer Creek Baptist Church. He also was a member of CC Camp (Civilian Conservation Corps). He was a very special person to the elderly community of Montgomery County. On April 14, 1984, he married the former Maude Morrison, who survives of the residence. He was previously married to Pauline Crouse Deaton, who preceded him in death in 1982. He also was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Linda Garner; and a granddaughter, Tess Elliott.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs.. Elaine Key and her husband, Barry, of High Point; a son, Phillip A. Deaton, and his wife, Rosemary, of Randleman; two stepdaughters, Deborah Jarrell Hyde and her husband, Edward, and Betty Sue Haywood and her husband, Keith, both of Mt. Gilead; two brothers, Robert Deaton and Lawson Deaton, both of High Point; three sisters, Bessie Hammond of Seagrove, Iris McKnight of Holden Beach, S.C., and Grace Hoffner of High Point; two grandchildren, Ellen Elliott and Shannon Deaton; two great-grandchildren, Cherish Clemmer and Amber Deaton; three stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Fairview United Methodist Church by the Rev. Bobby Swaim and the Rev. Alex Willoughby. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, and other times at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Barry Key, 1001 Cherokee Court, High Point.

John Peeler, 78, of U.S. 220 North Norman, formerly of Lee Smith Road, died at 6:10 p.m. Feb. 12, 2001, at First Health of Richmond Memorial Hospital in Rockingham.

Georgia Scott

Mrs. Georgia White Scott, 96, of 100 Cedarwood Drive died at her residence.
She was born Aug. 14, 1904, in Whitesburg, Tenn., a daughter of William Grant and Isabelle Moore White. She was a resident of High Point prior to moving to Jamestown in 1961. She retired from Food World in 1975, serving 36 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Jamestown and the Dorcas Sunday School Class. On July 25, 1937, she married Arden Haywood Scott, who preceded her in death July 11, 1968.
Surviving is a nephew, John William White of Greeneville, Tenn.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Sechrest Chapel, High Point, by the Rev. Jerry Harper. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Rose Cox Toliver, 97, formerly of Tipton Street died Jan. 29, 2001, at Piedmont Christian Home.
She was born May 9, 1903, in Sparta, a daughter of Robert and Florence Lawrence Cox. She was formerly employed with A&L Hosiery Mills as an inspector and attended English Road Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Toliver, and two sons, Robert and Donald Toliver.
Surviving are a son, Charles Toliver of Lexington; a sister, Dottie Miles of Baltimore; six grandchildren, Bonnie Turner of High Point, Michelle Austin of Thomasville, Kayla Toliver of Lexington, Tori Tolliver, Lori Tolliver and Trudi Toliver, all of Johnson City, Tenn.; and two great-grandchildren, Brandon Turner of High Point and Haley Austin of Thomasville.
Funeral was 2 p.m. Feb. 1 at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jay Lambeth. Burial was in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

Jimmie Monroe Capps, 86, formerly of High Point, died Feb. 13, 2001, at Durham Regional Hospital.
He was born Aug. 3, 1914, in Chatham County, a son of Will and Elizabeth Beal Capps, who both preceded him in death. He retired from Trinity Frame Co. He attended Calvary Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons. On July 22, 1939, he married the former Lucille Myers, who preceded him in death May 26, 1995.
Surviving are three sons, the Rev. K. Harold Capps and his wife, Linda, and Robert Hugh Capps and his wife, Pat, all of Archdale, and Mark E. Capps and his wife, Vickie, of Denton; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence of Hugh and Pat Capps, 4541 Huff Road, Archdale.
