Mrs. Elizabeth Nance died Feb. 11, 2001.
She was born in High Point, a daughter of Addison Eugene and Daisy Hyatt Wall. She was a resident of High Point until her marriage to Richmond Reid Nance April 16, 1937. They made their home in Winston-Salem. She and her husband joined Ardmore United Methodist Church in 1938. She was an active member of her church as long as she was healthy. She was employed with Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System for many years.
Surviving are her husband; and a daughter, Nancy Nance Stahl and her husband, Robert, both of Chandler, Ariz.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Ardmore United Methodist Church.

Suzanne Rhoades
Trinity
Mrs. Suzanne Whitaker Rhoades, 56, of 4496 Peacock Lane died Feb. 14, 2001, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
She was born April 18, 1944, in Guilford County, a daughter of Lawrence and Wilma Hubbard Whitaker. She was a resident of the Trinity vicinity for the past 12 years. She was formerly employed with AT&T. She was a member of Reavis Memorial Baptist Church and attended Full Armour Christian Center. On Feb. 14, 1965, she married Robert Wayne Rhoades, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are two children, Tracy Nicolay and Sonny Rhoades, both of Trinity; an adopted daughter, Lisa Riggins of Trinity; her father, Lawrence Whitaker of Mt. Airy; two brothers, Vernon Whitaker of Dallas and Sidney Whitaker of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Tina Ray Whitaker of Arlington, Va., and Kim Gragg of Hickory; and two grandchildren, Chad and Trina Nicolay.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Full Armour Christian Center by the Rev. Randy Ingram. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, 4-A Oak Branch Drive, Greensboro, N.C. 27407.

Mary Steed
Wilmington
Mrs. Mary Dowdy Steed died Feb. 14, 2001, at Liberty Commons Nursing Center.
She was born Feb. 8, 1910, in Richmond, Va., a daughter of Henry and Lula Hancock Dowdy, who both preceded her in death. She lived in High Point for many years. She was a very active member of Cape Fear Presbyterian Church. She was married to Benjamin Franklin Steed, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are her daughter, Patricia Steed Schlegel, and her husband, Joseph, of the residence; a son, Jack Steed, and his wife, Betsy, of Warner Robbins, Ga.; five grandchildren, Angie Steed Kivett, Cindy Steed Hektner, Mary Steed Reece, Joel Schlegel and Vicki Schlegel Sowers; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel by the Rev. Curtis “T” Christian IV. Burial will be in Oleander Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be John Jefferies, Roland Register, C.R. Johnson, Ernest Puskas, Lyman Conover and Steve O'Brien.

Eran Aurbrey Stiers, 17, of Giles Road died Feb. 14, 2001, from injuries received in an auto accident.
Graveside service will be 4 p.m. Saturday in Lexington City Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

E. Tedder
Sun City Center, Fla.
Mrs. Elizabeth “Libba” Tedder, 77, died Feb. 11, 2001.
She was born Nov. 27, 1923, in Knoxville, Tenn., a daughter of Louis Baxter Nickle Sr. and Lillian Hough Nickle. She loved entertaining family and friends. She was an enthusiastic golfer and dancer. She loved flowers and birds. She was involved in her church and numerous volunteer organizations through the years in Georgia and North Carolina. She was the founder of Discovery Weekend at Christmount Christian Assembly in Black Mountain, N.C. She was deeply involved in the growth of Christmount. She was a gracious, talented heroic lady, who lived as an example for others and whose life will be celebrated by family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Tedder.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Jodie Stamey and her husband, Robert, and Mrs. Claudia Owens and her husband, Barry; two sisters, Catherine Sebby and Lillian Henderson; two brothers, Louis Baxter Nickle Jr. and Bill Nickle; three grandchildren, Claire Dalton, Travis Owens and Brandon Owens; two great-grandchildren, Megan Rembert and Timothy Dalton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Christmount Christian Assembly, 222 Fern Way, Black Mountain.

Bruce Pickett Wilson, 74, of 418 Chapel Drive died Feb. 15, 2001, at Lexington Memorial Hospital after an illness of a week.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Paul's Chapel United Church of Christ. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Martha Burton
Thomasville
Mrs. Martha Ione Drake Burton, 81, of 302 Salem St., died Feb. 17, 2001 in Community General Hospital.
She was born Sept. 24, 1919 in Hope, Ark. She was a retired employee of Belk’s Department Store in Thomasville. Mrs. Burton was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church. In 1962, she was married to Charles Wesley Burton, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are a son, Ronnie E. Martin of McAllen, Texas; a sister, Mrs. Les (Rozell) Feldzer of Corpus Christi, Texas; and a grandson, Robert L. Martin of McAllen, Texas.
Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Monday in Thomasville City Cemetery by the Rev. Kyles Y. Wallace, Rev. Wilbur A. Jarrett and Rev. Peggy Finch. Mrs. Burton will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home until the service hour. Visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

John Craven
Sophia
Mr. John “Jake” Boyd Craven, 70, of 4025 Old Way Road, died Feb. 17, 2001 in Randolph Hospital.
He was a native of Randolph County where he attended Trinity Holiness Church of Sophia. He was a Marine veteran during the Korean War and retired from Hatteras Yacht after 27 years.
Survivors include wife, Annie Marie Rich Craven of the home; daughter, Dianne Craven Rush of Sophia; son, Jackie L. Craven of Sophia; mother, Vergie Underwood Craven of Climax; and grandson, Jonathon Rush of Sophia.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Holiness Church, 4997 Plainfield Rd., Sophia, by the Rev. Arthur Swaney and Rev. Ronald Robbins. Burial will be in South Plainfield Friends Meeting Cemetery. Visitation 7-9 p.m. tonight at the Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, and at other times at the residence.

Bessie Davis

Mrs. Bessie Hackett Davis, 96, of 352 Martin Luther King Dr., died Feb. 17, 2001 at Community General Hospital.
Funeral will be 6 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church by Rev. Dr. George Jackson. Visitation will be 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church and at other times at the residence. Thomas-Haizlip Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Annie King
Durham
Mrs. Annie James King, 80, of 1839 Forest Rd., died Feb. 17, 2001 in Durham Regional Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born in Ocilla, Ga., the daughter of the late Perry and Missouri James. She was a lifelong resident of Durham and a member of Temple Baptist Church. She retired from Sperry Rand Corp., and became an avid gardener and substitute grandma to many children.
Survivors are a husband, John F. King; a daughter, Mrs. Linda K. Poole and her husband Jim of High Point; a son, Perry R. King and wife Juanita of Durham; sister, Mrs. Mary Carter of Florida; brother, Eldridge James of Durham; four grandchildren, Mrs. Robbin Edwards and her husband, John of Durham, Todd King of Durham, Ms. Lori Poole of Raleigh, and Jamie Poole and his wife Terri of Brandon, Fla.; and three great grandchildren, John Edwards III, Courtney Edwards and Jimmy Poole III.
Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Monday in Clements Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be at the home of the son, Perry R. King of 2301 Strawberry Lane, Durham. Memorials may be directed to Temple Baptist Church Building Fund, 807 W. Chapel Hill St., Durham, NC 27701. Clements Funeral Service, Durham, is in charge of arrangements.

Fred Prevatt
High Point
Mr. Fred Eugene Prevatt, 66, died Feb. 16, 2001 at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born June 9, 1934 in Anson County, the son of George David and Cora Hancock Prevatt. He was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Prevatt, in 1994. He was residing at the Weslyan Manor Nursing Home in High Point and was a former resident of Greensboro and Haw River.
Survivors include a wife, Darcus Lax Prevatt of High Point; daughters, Audrey Rene Prevatt of Greensboro, Kathy McMahan of Trinity and Carol Lawson of Summerfield; sons, Mark Prevatt of Whitsett and Kevin Paul “Shorty” Prevatt of Belews Creek; brothers, Jerry C. Prevatt and George R. Prevatt, both of Greensboro, and Ross D. Prevatt of Concord, Ga.; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Tommy Harrold and Rev. Bill Rice. Burial will be in West End Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Piedmont, 213 N.
