Mrs. Peggy H. Jeffers, 68, formerly of China Grove died Feb. 5, 2001, at the residence of her son, where she had resided the last four months, after a lengthy period of declining health.
She was born June 13, 1932, in Thomasville, a daughter of Roy and Lettie Clodfelter Hawks, who both preceded her in death.
She retired from Belk Stores in Statesville as a retail salesperson. She also had worked at both the Hickory and Asheboro Belk Stores.
She was married to the Rev. Frank Arthur Jeffers, who preceded her in death. She also was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Abby Rebecca Jeffers and Terence Mason Jeffers; and three brothers, Darrell Hawks, James Hawks and Mickey Hawks.
Surviving are her daughter, Nadine J. Owens and her husband, Mark R., of China Grove; three sons, Bill Jeffers and his wife, Meg Grigg, of Dallas, Mark Alan Jeffers of China Grove and Brian Jeffers and his wife, Susan Harvey, of Belmont; a sister, Betty H. Williams of Kernersville; a brother, Ronnie Hawks of High Point; and three grandsons, Jonathan Owens, Nick Jeffers and Daniel Jeffers.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Catawba Funeral Home Chapel, Hickory, by the Rev. Steve Kiser. Entombment will be in Catawba Memorial Park, Hickory.
Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ruth Virginia McSwain, 90, of 457 Fairgrove Road died Feb. 6, 2001, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Mr. Glenn Wade Morgan, 65, of 411 E. Lexington Ave. died Feb. 6, 2001.

Herbert Albea

Herbert J. Albea, 84, of 525 Radford St. died Feb. 1, 2001, at his residence.
He was a lifelong resident of High Point and attended the public schools here. He was employed for many years with Thomas Built Buses. For the past 20 years, he was a school crossing guard for Guilford County Public Schools and worked on the day of his death. He was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Verda Ingram Albea of the residence; a daughter, Arlethia A. Hill of High Point; a son, Herbert Lee (Ann) Albea of Patterson, N.J.; nine grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. James H. Graves. Burial will be in Carolina Biblical Gardens. Visitation will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the church and other times at the residence.

Rhett Ball

Isaac Rhett Ball, 88, died Jan. 30, 2001, in Columbia.
He was born in Charleston, a son of Alexander Kelsall Ball and Emily Clarkson Ball. He received his master’s of business administration from Harvard. After attending Harvard Graduate School in 1935, he was involved in investment banking, aviation, furniture manufacturing and management consulting businesses until 1973. He continued to direct his own management consulting firm until full-time retirement in 1997. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church.
Surviving are his wife, Florence Newton Ball; three sons, Rodney Rhett Ball of Greensboro, N.C., Randolph Newton Ball of Los Angeles and Robert Lynn Ball of San Francisco; two grandchildren; two brothers, Alexander Kelsall Ball Jr. of Charleston and Garden Clarkson Ball of Mobile, Ala.; a sister, Emily Clarkson Grainger of Richmond, Va.
Services will be held at a later date at Strawberry Chapel Cemetery, Moncks Corner.

Hubert Milton Craven, 76, of Britthaven Nursing Home died Feb. 2, 2001, at his residence.
He was born July 27, 1924, in Davidson County, a son of Walter M. Craven and Sallie Stone Craven. He had been an electrical contractor and was a former golf pro at Sapona Country Club in Lexington. In 1995, he retired from Sechrest Funeral Service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II.
He was a charter member of Walburg Lions Club, Fire Department and Recreation Center. He was a member of Abbotts Creek Missionary Baptist Church. On Jan. 12, 1946, he married Betty Lee Kennedy, who preceded him in death Jan. 2, 2000.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Betty Jo Motsinger and her husband, Hugh, of Winston-Salem, Mrs. Cathy White and her husband, J.B., of Thomasville, and Joni Smith and her husband, Terry, of High Point; a sister, Mrs. Jackie Pendry and her husband, Monroe, of Winston-Salem; two brothers, Buren Craven and his wife, Dot, of Salisbury and Johnny Craven and his wife Sally of Winston-Salem; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Marguerite Craven of Winston-Salem and Mrs. Rachal Craven of High Point; nine grandchildren, Brian Motsinger, Kevin Motsinger, Scott White, Darren White, Chad White, Brad White, Jason Smith, Heather Smith and Ty Smith; and seven great-grandchildren, Kahla, Kinsley, Megan, Madison, Kayla, Lindsay and Alex.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Abbotts Creek Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Lee Stocks and the Rev. Jack Rose. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Family Funeral Care and other times at the residence of his daughter, Joni Smith, 4083 N. N.C. 109, High Point.
