John Leonard

John Matthew Leonard, 80, of 149 Jacob St. Ext. died Feb. 22, 2001, at Community General Hospital.
He was born April 28, 1920, in Davidson County, a son of Edward Leonard and Lula Belle Beck Leonard. He was a resident of this area the greater part of his life. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II in the European Theater and was awarded the “Purple Heart.” He retired from Thomasville Furniture Industries, Plant V, having served more than 29 years.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Mrs. Elva Hardy Leonard of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Ann Wallace and her husband, Donald, of Lexington; two sons, John Wayne Leonard and his wife, Martha, of Lexington, and Allen Leonard and Janice, both of Thomasville; three sisters, Mrs. T.J. (Mary Dessie) Hicks, Mrs. Dora Miller and Mrs. Tommy (Emma) Lee, all of Thomasville; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel by the Rev. Cecil Worley. Burial will be in Oak Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Churchland.

Foster Loflin
Denton
The Rev. Foster Loflin, 90, of 2066 NC Highway 109 South died Feb. 23, 2001 at his residence. He had been in declining health since November.
Rev. Loflin was born May 14, 1910, in Davidson County to N.E. Loflin and Venie Myers Loflin. He was a retired minister in the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church and served as a pastor of churches in Mocksville, Sandy Ridge, Shoals, Seagrove, Statesville and Albemarle.
Surviving are his wife, Mabel Yates Loflin of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Fran L. Craven and husband Resal Craven of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a grandson, Michael Craven of Taichung, Taiwan; one brother, Reid Loflin of Denton; and a sister, Ocie L. Fine of Denton.
Visitation will be 6:30 to 8:30 Monday evening at Briggs Funeral Home.
Judy Mashburn
High Point
Mrs. Judy Ann Haynes Mashburn, 50, of Mountainview Street died Feb. 23, 2001, at High Point Regional Hospital following an illness.
She was born in High Point, July 13, 1950, a daughter of Dallas and Mary Tate Haynes. She was employed at Shawn Mfg. for 11 years and at Spectrum Furniture for nine years. She served as secretary of Grace and Mercy Holiness Church for five years. She sang with various gospel groups. She was a devoted child of God, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.
Surviving are her husband, Ulysses C. Mashburn, of the home; two daughters, Tina “Sha” Herring and her husband, Eldred, of Trinity and Sandra “Renee” Hogue and her husband, Gary, of Trinity; a son, Franklin D. Mashburn and his wife, April, of Trinity; three sisters, Vickie Bocholis and her husband, James, of Winston-Salem, Donna Jones and her husband, David, of Trinity, Robin Kennedy and her husband, Rich, of Badin Lake; eight grandchildren, Sonja Gayle, Bobbie Ann, Scott Justin, Jenni, Joshua, Ashley, Bubba, Amber; two great-grandchildren; Kimberly Sha, Haley Nicole; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. today at the Harold C. Davis Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Joe Bare. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery.

Paul David Vestal, 94, a resident of Liberty Woods Nursing Center and formerly of Bish Court died Feb. 24, 2001 at Community General Hospital.

Margaret Wade

Mrs. Margaret Louise Davis Wade, 84, of 202 March Lane and a former resident of Madison Avenue in High Point died Feb. 24, 2001, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Aug. 28, 1916, in Guilford County, a daughter of Marvin Phillip and Queen Viola Ledwell Davis. She had been a lifelong resident of High Point until moving to Lexington a year ago. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Wade, who died May 10, 1970.
Surviving are two daughters, Sheila Wade Dillon of Thomasville and Marion Cox and her husband, Bobby, of Lexington; a son, Danny Wade and his wife, Lani, of Santa Paula, Calif.; three sisters, Dot Philpott of New York, Ruth Carrick of High Point and Jackie Shelton of Greensboro; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point by the Rev. Chuck Garner. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Beulah B. Ward, 83, of 906 Lindsey Ave. died Feb. 22, 2001, at Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.
Surviving are a son, Kenneth D. Ward of Orlando, Fla.; a brother, Wilbur Bailey of Thomasville; three sisters, Thelma Spell of High Point, Eloise Dawkins of Cander and Ina Nall of Robbins; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. March 3 at Star United Methodist Church in Star by the Rev. Muncie Millaway.

Mrs. Agnes Marie Welch Sheffield, 91, of Robbins, formerly of High Point, died Feb. 23, 2001 at SunBridge of Asheboro.
She was born on Feb. 5, 1910, in High Point, a daughter of Samuel Columbus and Emma Betty Spears Welch. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Neill McDonald Sheffield, Sr., on Dec. 3, 1976; three brothers; two sisters; and a granddaughter, Ronda Lawrence.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Brownie (Doris) Pitts of Seagrove; Mrs. Buddy (Sandra) Joines of Asheboro; three sons and their wives, Neil M. Sheffield, Jr. and Betty of Oak Island, Samuel F. Sheffield and Genevieve of Robbins; and Harold W. Sheffield and Marie of Archdale; four sisters, Mrs. Treva Safreit of Mocksville, Mrs. Margaret Taylor of Monroe, Mrs. Connie Pippin of Yadkinville and Mrs. Paul (Grace) Phillips of East Bend; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday in Floral Garden Park Cemetery by the Rev. Bob Metters. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Sechrest Funeral Service in Archdale and other times at the home of the daughter, Mrs. Joines, 3079 Old NC Highway 13, Asheboro.
Howard Bullins
Thomasville
Howard Ray Bullins, 64, of 1225 Hillcrest Drive, died March 5, 2001, at Community General Hospital.
He was born Sept. 29, 1936, in Davidson County, a son of Bud Bullins and Rena Irene Cox Bullins. He retired from Thomasville Furniture Industries Plant M with more than 28 years of service. He served a tour with the N.C. National Guard and was of the Baptist Faith. On Dec. 22, 1972, he was married to Ruth Little, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are a daughter, Teresa Bullins of South Carolina; two stepdaughters, Lisa Rowland of Lexington and Vickie Snider of Clearview, Fla.; three stepsons, Jack Ellis of Greensboro, Larry Ellis of Florida and Johnny Ellis of Kure Beach; a sister, Lois Lane of High Point; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 4 p.m. Thursday at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel by the Rev. H. Warren Casiday and the Rev. Danny McMahan. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

Jacob Alexander Crissman, 21-months-old, died March 5, 2001, at Brenner Children’s Hospital.
He was born May 11, 1999, in Guilford County, a son of Jay Almon and Laura Sebastian Crissman. God has called another angel home. His family and friends love him very much and will miss him greatly.
Surviving are his parents of the residence; his sister, Morgan Sebastian of the residence; his grandmothers, Nancy Crissman of Greensboro and Susan Sebastian of Winston-Salem; his great-grandmother, Jean Moore of N. Wilkesboro; two uncles, James and J. Mark Crissman, both of Greensboro; and an aunt, Carrie McPherson of King.
Funeral will be 7 p.m. tonight at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Visitation will be after the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Lucille Williams Dockery died March 3, 2001, at High Point Regional Hospital
She was a native of Anson County.
Surviving are her son, William R. (Betty) Dockery of Archdale; her sister, Mary W. (Lester) Rorie of High Point; her brother, Grover Williams of High Point; and two grandchildren.
