Reitzel “Ike” Earl Hiatt, 85, formerly of 4320 Archdale Road, died March 5, 2001, at Britthaven of Guilford Nursing Home.
He was born July 1, 1915, in Guilford County, a son of Charlie A. and Ada Perryman Hiatt. He was a lifelong resident of this area. He retired from Laughlin Hosiery Mills. He was a member of Archdale United Methodist Church and the Adult Fellowship Sunday School Class. He was a former member of the Archdale-Trinity Lions Club and a member of the VFW Post 9899. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II in Germany. He was married to the former Irene Bouldin, who preceded him in death Nov. 13, 1996.
Surviving are a son, R. Gene Hiatt and his wife, Tula, of 7561 Racine Road, Pleasant Garden; four grandchildren, Ryan E. Hiatt, Miss Anne Hiatt, Miss Haley Hiatt and Mrs. Tim (Stephanie) Perdue; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Archdale United Methodist Church by the Rev. Mary John Dye and the Rev. Harold D. Shives. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Adult Fellowship Sunday School Class.

Longtime civic, community leader dies at age of 92
Earnest Howard McCall, 92, formerly of 315 Otteray Drive died March 5, 2001, at the Presbyterian Home.
He was born Sept. 29, 1908, a son of Earnest Dean and Margaret Jolly McCall. He received his early education at the Darlington School and graduated from Davidson College in 1930. He began his career with the High Point Overall Co. in 1933, which later was named Anvil Brand. He served as purchasing director until his retirement in 1974. His career with High Point Overall Co. was interrupted from 1942-1945 while he served as captain with the U.S. Army Transportation Corps during World War II. On June 30, 1956, he married the former Sarah Colvin of Gastonia, who preceded him in death Aug. 13, 1990.
He was the last surviving life elder of First Presbyterian Church in High Point, where he had served as a deacon, associate deacon, moderator of numerous committees and a longtime Sunday school teacher of the Presbyterian Home Sunday School Class. He was the longest serving member of the High Point Rotary Club, where he served as former club secretary for many years and as former president. He was a major benefactor of the Rotary Foundation and he was a Paul Harris Fellow.
He had the distinction of being the longest serving and oldest registered Boy Scout Volunteer in the Akela District, Old North State Council. He served as chartered partner emeritus of both Troop 20 and Pack 20 at First Presbyterian Church until his death. He served as Scoutmaster from 1940-1942 as an institutional representative for more than 25 years. He received Scouting’s highest volunteer award at the council level, the “Silver Beaver Award,” for his long service at the troop level and the district eagle review board as its chairman.
Surviving are his sister, Mrs. Margaret McCall Copple of Highlands; his sister-in-law, Mrs. Joe (Josephine) McCall of Fayetteville; his brother-in-law, David Colvin and his wife, Sue, of Gastonia; and nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Harry Cole and the Rev. Lisa M. Mullen. Private burial will be prior to the service. Visitation will be immediately after the memorial service Friday at the church.

Robert Rose

Robert “Bob” Vernon Rose, 70, of 4202 Jeffrey Lane Point died March 6, 2001, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 19, 1931, in Olive Hill, Ky., a son of John Ephrain and Lalie Lancaster Rose. He was a U.S. Navy #4260053 veteran, having served during the Korean War. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and Christ Fellowship Sunday School Class. He was employed as a salesman with All State Restaurant Equipment and retired from Jacobi-Lewis Co. as a manager. On Dec. 24, 1952, he married Bobbie Boss, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are a daughter, Jody Rose Hubay and her husband, Joe, of High Point; two sons, Craig Rose and his wife, Trisha, of High Point and Randy Rose and his wife, Margaret, of Wilmington; four sisters, Olive Fultz of Washington state, Bertha (Bo) Fultz, Virginia Lee Rose and Linda Browning, all of Olive Hill; three grandsons, Chris Rose, Matthew Hubay and Jordan Hubay; and a granddaughter, Courtney Hubay.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Christ United Methodist Church by the Rev. Glenn Myers, the Rev. Lloyd Hunsucker and the Rev. Brian Cornell. Entombment will be in Floral Garden Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Sechrest Funeral Service, 1301 E. Lexington Ave.

Mrs. Betty Ruth Hughes Rumbley, 84, formerly of 2026 S. Mebane St., Burlington, died March 5, 2001, at Evergreens Nursing Center in Greensboro.
She was a member of St. Mark’s Church in Burlington. She retired from Belk’s Department Store as a sales clerk. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everette C. Rumbley in November 1986; two sisters, Pearl Kithcart and Clemence Holder; two brother, W.C. Hughes and George C. Hughes.
Surviving are four sisters, Fannie Thompson and her husband, Theodore, of Thomasville, Thelma Simpson, Estelle Pierman and Geraldine Shelton and her husband, Ernest, of Greensboro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hanes-Lineberry, 515 N. Elm St. Burial will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Alamance Memorial Park. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Pauline Jackson Shackelford, 88, of N.C. 62 West died March 6, 2001, at her residence.
She was born Feb. 4, 1913, in Guilford County, a daughter of Adam and Matilda Cashatt Jackson. She was employed several years with Globe Furniture Co. and was a retired homemaker. She was a member of Fairfield United Methodist Church and Sunday School. On Nov. 9, 1935, she was married to Willie Warren Shackelford, who preceded her in death Oct. 13, 1979.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Brenda Brown and her husband, Fred of Thomasville; two granddaughters, Amy Williams and her fiancé, Brian Hattaway, and Lisa Lanier; and her faithful and loving canine companion, Dryfuss.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Fairfield United Methodist Church by the Rev. Neal Brower and the Rev. Gene Dean. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Sechrest Funeral Service, Archdale, and other times at 2025 Priya St., Thomasville.

Mrs. Pansy Ora Ozment Bolton, 93, of 1924 Lick Creek Church Road died March 7, 2001, at Britthaven of Davidson Nursing Center.
She was born Oct. 23, 1907, in Randolph County, a daughter of John Henry Ozment and Lugolda Walden Ozment. She was a lifelong resident of this area. She retired from Maro Hosiery Mill. She was a member of Cid United Methodist Church. She married William Clifton “Cliff” Bolton, who preceded her in death April 21, 1979.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Wanda Myers of Denton; a son, Jack Bolton and his wife, Martha, of Thomasville; three grandsons, Billy “W.C.” Myers and his wife, Rhonda, of Denton, Chip Bolton and his wife, Celia, of Greenville, S.C., and Rusty Bolton and his wife, Lisa Lynn, of Norcross Ga.; a great-granddaughter, Brooke Harris; and three great-great-grandsons, Justin Myers, Nathan Harris and Christian Harris.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. today in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery by the Rev. Hulon Pait.

Miss Priscilla Lane Burton, 61, of 1892 N.C. 109 North died March 8, 2001, at Britthaven of Forsyth in Kernersville.
She was born in Davidson County Aug. 20, 1939, a daughter of Jacob Burton and Louise Brinkley Burton. She was a lifelong resident of Davidson County. She was employed with Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina and worked at the Mills Home Campus in Thomasville. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ. She was an avid tea set collector and loved to play canasta with her favorite Auntie Maxine. She was preceded in death by a brother, Danny Wayne Burton.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Bobby (Toni) Robbins of Winston-Salem; a niece, Ms. Lisa Nelson of Kernersville; a nephew, Jason Burton of Thomasville.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion United Church of Christ by the Rev. Joe D. Coltrane. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home, Thomasville, until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
