Mrs. Flora Dalton Clark, 94, of 650 Wesley Drive died unexpectedly March 8, 2001, at her residence.
She was born May 8, 1906, in Stuart, Va., a daughter of Willis and Carrie Frazier Dalton. She was a resident of High Point 74 years. She retired from Richardson’s Department Store. She was a member of Bunker Hill Primitive Baptist Church. On Aug. 25, 1924, she married Delmer I. Clark, who preceded her in death Dec. 28, 1952. She also was preceded in death by her daughter, Mrs. Margie Griffith.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Lucille Crawford and her husband, Herman, of 618 Rockspring Road and Mrs. Angelia Phipps and her husband, Robert, of Greensboro; six grandchildren, Clark Allred, David Allred, Mrs. Connie Goff, Kent Crawford, Mrs. Bobbie Barham and Bruce Griffith; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Sechrest Chapel, E. Lexington Avenue, by Elder John Lee. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Snow Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Lawsonville, by Elder Ken Hopkins. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Lucille Crawford, 618 Rockspring Road.
Memorials may be directed to Bunker Hill Primitive Baptist Church, c/o Elder John Lee, 2323 Wayne White Road, Pleasant Garden, N.C. 27313 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Harold Freeman
Lexington
Harold Lee Freeman, 73, of N.C. 150 North died at 6:42 a.m. March 8, 2001, at his residence after declining health of 10 months.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

E. Hilton
Tappahannock, Va.
Mrs. Ellen Wade Hilton, 70, died March 7, 2001, at her residence.
She was born June 28, 1930, in Cleveland, Ohio, a daughter of Howard Madison and Ellen Agnes Saunders, who both preceded her in death. She and her family moved to Neenah, Va., in 1938. She graduated from Warshaw High School in 1947. She and her husband, Jimmy Hilton, owned Modern Cleaners in Tappahannock for more than 50 years. She was preceded in death by her brother, A. Howard Saunders.
Surviving are her husband of 52 years, James Hilton Jr. of the residence; her four children, Terri (Reid) Davis of Kernersville, N.C., Jim (Sharon) Hilton of East Longmeadow, Maine, Paul (Elisabeth) Hilton of Richmond, Va., and Patrick (Renee) Hilton of Tappahannock; her two sisters, Theresa Marie Saunders of Tappahannock and Regina Anne Beale of Coles Point, Va.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A Catholic Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church, Tappahannock. Burial will be in Essex Cemetery. Rosary Service will be 5 p.m. today and visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Welch Funeral Home, Montross, Va.
Memorials may be directed to St. Timothy’s Catholic Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 129, Tappahannock, Va. 22560.

Mary Hughes
High Point
Mrs. Elizabeth Walls Hughes, 74, of 905 Nance Ave. died March 7, 2001, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Aug. 12, 1926, in Guilford County, a daughter of John Virgil and Alice Lorene Smith Walls. She retired from Prelude Inc. and later retired from Maryfield Nursing Home. She was a member of Springfield Baptist Church and the Golden Age Sunday School Class. On April 25, 1942, she was married to James Charles Hughes, who preceded her in death Feb. 3, 1993.
Surviving are three daughters, Brenda Shore and her husband, Jim, of Thomasville, Mariea “Bill” Shean and her husband, Gerald, of Archdale, and Vickie Butcher and her husband, Andrew, of Trinity; a son, James S. Hughes and his wife, Carolyn, of Beaufort; a brother, Kenneth Walls of High Point; eight grandchildren, Joe Hopper, Karen Petty, Justus Shean, Christopher Simpson, Brittany Hughes, Michael Butcher, Andrew Butcher II and Timothy Butcher; and her loving canine companion, “Baby.”
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Springfield Baptist Church by the Rev. Bobby Loving and the Rev. Ben Duncan. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Sechrest Funeral Service, Archdale, and other times at the residence.

Frances Lax
Denton
Mrs. Mary Frances Starr Lax, 66, died March, 7, 2001.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 tonight at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton.

George Palmer
Lexington
George Hubert Palmer, 73, of Cambridge Road died March 7, 2001.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at Piedmont Funeral Home.

Roy Cranford
Archdale
Roy “Shorty” Franklin Cranford, 73, resident of 4865 Pike St., died March 3, 2001, at 4:55 p.m. in High Point Regional Hospital following declining health since September.
He was born Nov. 24, 1927, in Norman, N.C., a son of Elby and Connie Rich Cranford. He had been a resident of Archdale since 1966 and was retired from Alma Desk Co. He was a member of the Trindale Community Church. On Oct. 4, 1947, he was married to Jacksie Brady, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Joyce) Hudspeth of the home and Mrs. Johnny (Janice) Cox of Eden; one son, Roy “Buster” Cranford and his wife, Carol, of 3216 Mountain View St., Trinity; one sister, Mrs. Floyd (Ila) Parsons of Troy; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday from the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale by the Rev. Earl Hanks. Interment will follow in the Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Mollie Cunningham

Mrs. Mollie Hamlet Cunningham, 74, of 4434 Pine Needle Drive, died March 4, 2001, at High Point Regional Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Cumby Family Funeral Service of Archdale.

Franklin Grimsley
Thomasville
Franklin L. Grimsley, 55, a resident of 1112 Trinity St., Apt. 701, died March 2, 2001, in Community General Hospital.
He was born Sept. 9, 1945, in Marion, S.C., a son of Claude David Grimsley and Bernice Cook Grimsley. He was formerly employed with Sunbelt Furniture Express. He attended Carolina Memorial Baptist Church and was a member of the Couples Sunday School Class. On Jan. 26, 1965, he was married to Geraldine “Gerrie” Owens, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Debbie Lynn) Floyd of Lexington and Mrs. Chris (Sandy Michelle) Westmoreland of Thomasville; a son, Frank Daniel Grimsley of Thomasville; five brothers, R.D. Grimsley of Jessup, Ga., Billy Grimsley of Panama City, Fla., Larry Grimsley and Tommy Grimsley, both of Dillon, S.C., and Richard Grimsley of Thomasville; and two grandchildren, Kimberly Dawn Barker and Preston David Westmoreland.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Carolina Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Stuart White. Burial will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The body is at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home and will be taken to the church Tuesday at noon, where the family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until the service hour.

Margie Houston

Mrs. Margie Ellen Howard Houston, 65, a resident of Edgewood Drive, died March 3, 2001, at Duke University Medical Center following an illness.
She was born in Danville, Va., on Feb. 9, 1936, a daughter of George Arnold and Nannie Reynolds Dixon. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed painting.
Surviving are her husband, Raymond Houston Jr., of the home; two sons, Ricky Daniel Howard of High Point and Robert David Howard of Kernersville; two daughters, Rachel Slaughter of High Point and Rhonda Paul of Conway, S.C.; a stepdaughter, Michelle Frazier of Orlando, Fla.; two brothers, Eugene Dixon of Thomasville and George Dixon of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two sisters, Eavon Bingham and Joyce Martin, both of High Point; nine grandchildren, Andrea Bixby, Jessica Howard, Matthew Slaughter, Donald Paul, Jennifer Paul, Stephanie Howard, Ryan Howard, Donald Frazier and Derrick Frazier; and one great-grandchild, Wyatt Bixby.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Harold C. Davis Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Delbert Hill. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Willard Jennings Sr.
High Point
Willard Monroe Jennings Sr., 76, a resident of 608 S. Elm St., died March 3, 2001, at the home of his son on 1420 Foust Ave.
He was born on Oct. 9, 1924, in Guilford County, a son of Claude M. and Flata Chadwick Jennings. A resident of High Point all of his life, he was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. In 1945, he married Myrtle Ferguson, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are his children, Candice Jennings of Rowan County, Rick Jennings of Thomasville, Dwight Jennings of High Point, Scott Jennings and his wife, Deborah, of Trinity, and Bill Jennings Jr. and his wife, Donna, of High Point; one brother, Ralph Jennings of Thomasville; one sister, Glenda Thompson of Arizona; six grandchildren, Jamie Jennings, Jason Jennings, Crystal Jennings, Celinia Jennings, Sherri Jennings and Patricia Scott; and six great-grandchildren, Jessica Jennings, Demi and Daya Warner, Zachary and Tyler Brann, and Gavin Meeks.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Grove Baptist Church by the Revs. Wayne Taylor and Mark Hall. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale and other times at the home of Dwight Jennings, 1420 Foust Ave.

Rachel Lackey

Mrs. Rachel Donise Phillips Lackey, 41, a resident of Maple Oak Drive, died March 3, 2001, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born in High Point on Sept. 7, 1959, a daughter of James and Betty Wilson Phillips. She was formerly employed as a cosmetology instructor at Carolina Beauty Systems and was a homemaker. On Dec. 18, 1975, she married Thomas Lackey, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are her parents, James and Betty Phillips of High Point; her mother-in-law, Ersa Lackey of Thomasville; one daughter, Christi Lackey Thomas of Thomasville; one son, Derek Lackey and his wife, Terri, of Thomasville; a brother, James Phillips of High Point; four sisters, Rebecca Baker of High Point, Judy Jernigan and her husband, Arnold, of Thomasville, Vicki Scarboro and her husband, Robert, of Archdale, and Abby Teer of High Point; and one granddaughter, Alexis Lackey of Thomasville.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Harold C. Davis Funeral Home Chapel by the Revs. Gerald Bingham and Danny Hopkins. Burial will be in Pine Ridge Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Walkertown. The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the home of Ersa Lackey, 1004 Liberty Arms, Apt. J, Thomasville, N.C. 27360.
