Gloria Jean Cooper McBride, 43, of Wilson Road, died at 12:40 a.m. March 2, 2001, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, after a lengthy illness.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Churchland Baptist Church. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the residence of her parents, 6450 S. N.C. 150.

Mrs. Nancy Stroud, 92, formerly of 1700 Chestnut Drive, died March 1, 2001, at Maryfield Nursing Home, after declining health since March of 1992.
She was born May 30, 1908, in Newton, a daughter of James A. and Callie Davis Yount. She was a homemaker and loved to work in her flowers and yard. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. She married Klyma Allison Stroud in 1928, who preceded her in death Sept. 6, 1976.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Billie Owens of 1410 Sweetbriar Court, High Point; three grandchildren, Richard “Rich” H. Owens Jr. and Wendy Owens, both of High Point, and Misty Holland and her husband, Derek, of Arlington, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Kristin Owens, Richard H. “Rich” Owens III, and Dusty Owens Lillo; a sister, Mrs. Billie Beam of Hickory; and a half sister, Miss Helen Yount of Conover; a niece, Mrs. Betty Beck of High Point; a nephew, Jack Setzer, and his wife, Ann, of Archdale.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church by the Rev. John L. Petry. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The body will be at Sechrest Funeral Home, E. Lexington Avenue, until placed in the church at the time of service. Visitation will be 4-5:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and other times at the residence of her granddaughter, Wendy Owens, 2102 Mast Ave.

Mrs. Velna Beatrice Beck Coe, 82, of Pineywood Road, died March 8, 2001.
She was born April 16, 1918, in Davidson County, a daughter of James Curtis Beck and Martha Curry Beck. She was a lifelong resident of this area. She was co-owner and operator of Grady’s Sunoco and Wrecker Service. She was a member of Hillside Park Baptist Church. She was married to Grady Coe, who preceded her in death Jan. 13, 1981.
Surviving are a son, Larry Workman of Archdale; and four grandchildren.
Funeral will be 4 p.m. Sunday at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel by the Rev. John Wheeles. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Brenda Davis Deaton, 51, of 4936 Poplar Ridge Road, died March 8, 2001, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was a native of Guilford County. She was employed with Four Star Hosiery Mill of High Point.
Surviving are her husband, Joseph Robert Hendley of Trinity; two daughters, Melissa Newton of Columbia, S.C., and Katie Smith of the residence; her father, Jimmie Davis of Sophia; two brothers, Roger Davis of Sophia and Darrell Davis of Randleman; three sisters, Ruth Stewart of Rock Hill, S.C., Nellie Burleson of Sophia and Irene Davis of Randleman; and three grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday by the Rev. Wayne Eller in Randolph Memorial Park.
Visitation will be 1:30-2:30 p.m. Sunday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro.

Lynwood “Jack” Irwin Meares, 87, died March 8, 2001, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
He was born June 8, 1913, in Richmond, Va. He was the former owner of Wallburg Hardware, Wallburg Exxon and Wallburg Diner.
Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Charles Bradshaw of Goldsboro; a son, Don Meares; two sisters; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a special friend and companion, Janet Norman Bodenhamer.
