Mrs. Bonnie Campbell Barney, 71, of Arvil Hunt Road died at 10:50 p.m. March 14, 2001, at Lexington Memorial Hospital after an illness of one week.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Forest Hill Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Mrs. Mary Patterson Craver, 81, of Lexington Health Care died at 9:50 p.m. March 14, 2001, at Lexington Health Care.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Lexington City Cemetery. Visitation will be at 604 Country Club Blvd. and after the service Saturday.

Mrs. Thelma S. “Jackie” Culbreth, 88, of Rocky Mount, formerly of Annmoore Circle, High Point, died March 14, 2001, at Dorothea Dix Hospital after hospitalization of one year.
She was born in Maxton, a daughter of Morgan and Ida McClain Culbreth, who both preceded her in death. She graduated from R.B. Dean High School in Maxton. She received her bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Bennett College.
She was employed a number of years as dean of women at North Carolina State University and Hampton University. She was employed recently with the Carl Chavis YMCA, where she was involved with the United Services for Older Adults program. She was the founder of two day-care centers, Martha’s Play School and Florence Jackson Play School, both in Atlanta, Ga. She was reared in the Methodist Church and later became a member of St. Paul Presbyterian Church, USA. She was preceded in death by 11 siblings.
Surviving are her sister, Mrs. Hattie M. Hall of High Point; a nephew, Winfred R. Hall of High Point; two nieces, Mrs. Willie Kelly and her husband, John, of Charlotte, and Mrs. Patricia A. Harris and her husband, Walter, of Temple Hills, Md.; a host of great nieces and great nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral will be 1 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Presbyterian Church, USA, by the Rev. E.B. Freeman Jr. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church and other times at the residence of Mrs. Hattie M. Hall, 1504 East Ave.

Thomas E. Dennis, 66, died March 11, 2001, at Fresno Veteran Medical Center in Fresno, Calif.
He was born June 3, 1934, in High Point, N.C.
Surviving are three daughter, Windy Anderson and Ginger Leonard, both of Lexington, N.C. and Amy Dennis of Clovis; his mother, Sarah Dennis of Trinity. N.C.; two sisters, Louise Adams of Denton, N.C., and Shelby Pope of High Point; a brother, Richard Dennis of Chicago, Ill.; and a grandson, Trevor Leonard.
Memorial graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday in Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery, Thomasville, N.C., by the Rev. Lowell Askins. Visitation will be immediately after the service Sunday.

Mrs. Hazel Swanson Hitchcock, 81, formerly of Birmingham, Ala., died March 13, 2001, at Evergreens Senior Health Care Center in High Point.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday in Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham.

James McCrery
High Point
James David “J.D.” McCrery, 94, died March 14, 2001, in Rocky Point.
He was born Feb. 4, 1907, in Bradley, S.C., a son of James Harvey and Lillie Bell Hinton McCrery. He graduated from Erskine College in Due West, S.C., June 1, 1928. He was one of the four original officers of Dallas Furniture, where he served as secretary from 1937-1995. He continued to remain active in the furniture business after Dallas Furniture was sold. He was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and an active member of the Peacock Bible Class.
He was a master Mason and a member of Acacia Lodge #674 A.F.&A.M., where he served as a past master and he also was lodge secretary for 37 years. His devotion and commitment to free Masonry was recognized by his lodge with its presentation of a life membership.
He was a sportsman, gentleman and credit to his family and community. On Sept. 25, 1940, he was married to Frances Lucille Cranford, who preceded him in death June 14, 1998. He also was preceded in death by his grandson, Robert A. Brunson Jr.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Susan M. Cherry and her husband, Ben W. Cherry Jr., of Rocky Point, and Mrs. June M. Brunson of Wilmington; two sisters, Mrs. Beatrice M. Weeks of North Augusta, S.C., and Mrs. Kathleen M. Boazman of Greenwood, S.C.; two grandchildren, Whitney Elizabeth Cherry of Rocky Point and Christine Elise Brunson-Hatcher of Laurinburg; and a great-grandson, Stephen Neal Hatcher Jr. of Laurinburg.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Floral Garden Park Cemetery by the Rev. C. Garland Young. The body will be at Sechrest Funeral Home, E. Lexington Avenue, for those friends who wish to sign his memorial book.

Gilda Mock

Mrs. Gilda Long Mock, 51, of 709 Barnwell St. died March 14, 2001, at High Point Regional Hospital in High Point.
She was born in Thomasville, a daughter of James Bruce Long and Beatrice Douglas Long Harrington. She was a lifelong resident of Thomasville and she was a 1967 graduate of Church Street School. She was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church, and a member of the pastor’s aid, kitchen committee and the visitation committee. She was formerly employed with Thomasville Furniture Industries, Plant B. On Aug. 8, 1992, she was married to James Edward Mock, who survives of the residence. She was preceded in death by her sister, Beverly L. Black.
Also surviving are her mother of High Point; her daughter, Ms. Carmen A. Jones of Thomasville; and two grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Union Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Van Johnson. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park in Thomasville. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service Saturday at the church and other times at the residence.

Matthew Carlis Smith, 69, of Helmstetler Road died at 9:38 a.m. March 14, 2001, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center after a serious illness of one and one-half years.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
Joe Albright

Mr. Joe Henry Albright, 91, of 7340 E. Holly Grove Road, died March 18, 2001 in Community General Hospital.
He was born Feb. 1, 1910, in Guilford County, a son of Odis Isaac Albright and Ella Clodfelter Albright. He was a retired employee of Albright Quality Wood Turning. Mr. Albright was a member of Mt. Zion Weslyan Church and the Faithful Workers Sunday School Class. On Oct. 24, 1935, he was married to Hazel Hughes Albright, who preceded him in death March 9, 2001.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Loyd (Norma) Hepler, and Mrs. Doak (Jean) Fuller, both of Thomasville, and Mrs. Milton “Monk” (Freida) Suggs of Lexington; a son, Lawrence Albright and wife Emma of Thomasville; four sisters, Mrs. Ida Gordon of Denton, Mrs. Ruby Leonard, Mrs. Grady (Thelma) Darr and Mrs. Edith Beck, all of Thomasville; two brothers, Fred Albright and wife Monnie and Melvin Albright, both of Thomasville; 11 grandchildren, Stacey Inman, Jay Hepler, Cheryl Ivey, Joey Albright, Daren Fuller, Marty Fuller, Wendi Key, Terri Ward, Marlon Suggs, Tressi Suggs and John Suggs; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church by Dr. E. Keith Carroll and the Rev. Carroll M. Upton. Burial will be in church cemetery. The body will remain at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home until 30 minutes prior to the service. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. tonight at the funeral home and at other times at the residence, 7340 E. Holly Grove Road. Mrs. Arrie Bell McCoy, 7541 Sunnyvale Drive, died March 16, 2001, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Earl. She later became a member of First Emmanuel Baptist Church in High Point. In her elderly years, she attended the St. Stephens Adult Day Care.
Survivors include a daughter, Rosa Lee (Leroy) Tate of the home; one niece raised as a daughter, Thelma Smith of Washington, D.C.; five grandchildren, Joe (Mary) Tate, Henrietta (Tommy) Briley, Sylvia Woke, Karen Tate and Lenette (Troy) Burris; six great-grandchildren, Dederrick Bennett, Talita Briley, Tommy Briley Jr., Michael Tate, Cecilia Woke, Larry Burris; two sisters, Inez and Rosetta; and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Earl. Burial will be in church cemetery. Visitation Tuesday night at First Emmanuel Baptist Church in High Point and 1:30-2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Earl, and other times at the home. Robert Myers

Robert Evern Myers, 71, of Ashe Court, died March 18, 2001 at his residence.
He was born April 23, 1929, in Yadkinville, a son of William and Sallie Myers. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was formerly self-employed as a TV repairman. He was an avid fisherman. He was preceded in death by his wife Lucille Myers, a brother, Clinton Myers, two sisters, Lindey Godby and Nannie Childress, and a great-granddaughter, Hannah Lockhart.
Surviving are four daughters, Sandra Guyer and her husband, Tommy, of Thomasville, Denitha Helton and her husband Willie of Trinity, Judy Miller and her husband Russell of Newport, Vt., and Tammy Gable and her husband Steve of Hamilton, Ohio; three sons, Richard Myers and his wife Debi of Holister, Fla., Robert Myers of LaGrange, and Daniel Myers of Tillery; two brothers, Eugene Myers of King and Evan Myers of Winston-Salem; three sisters, Mary Davis of Lexington, Elizabeth Myers of Advance and Margaret Cummins of Walkertown; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Harold C. Davis Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Herth Kennedy. Burial with military honors will be in Crestview Memorial Park, Rural Hall. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. tonight at the funeral home and at all other times at the home of Sandra Guyer, 105 Ashe Court, Thomasville, N.C. Sarah Pugh

Sarah Steed Tyson Pugh, 83, of 1413 Westmont Drive, died March 16, 2001, at her home.
A native of Mebane, she was a graduate of Greensboro College and taught in elementary schools in Mebane, Troy and Asheboro. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church, where she was active in her church circle (Circle Number 1) and had served on the Administrative Board. Since her marriage to Jack Pugh in 1942, she had been active in the operations of Pugh Funeral Homes.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth P. and Fred Jones of High Point; sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Sandra Pugh of Ruffin, Mac and Ann Pugh, and Ed and Katherine Pugh of Asheboro; grandchildren, Page Jones of Charleston, S.C., Bud Jones of Spartanburg, S.C., and Jonathan and William Pugh of Asheboro; and former husband Jack Pugh of Asheboro.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Central United Methodist Church by the Rev. William Christopher Thore and the Rev. William H. Pheagin. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.
