Eula Flynn Leonard, 88, of Happy Hill Road died at 12:50 a.m. March 20, 2001, at Lexington Memorial Hospital.
Funeral will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and other times at the residence of her son, 107 Sharon Drive.
Louise Leonard

Mrs. Louise Phillips Leonard, 90, of Wesleyan Homes died March 19, 2001, at Wesleyan Arms.
She was born April 19, 1910, in Hartwell, Ga. a daughter of Reuben H. Martin and Annie Smith Martin, who both preceded her in death.. She also was preceded in death by her six brothers, Sam, Kay, Jim, Jack, Joe and Frank Martin; and two sisters, Nell Martin and Mary Weldon.
On April 8, 1928, she married John B. Phillps and they moved to High Point shortly thereafter. They remained married until his death in 1967. There were two children born of this union, Alton M. Phillips, who also preceded her in death in 1946. and Ruth Anne (Sears) Hinnant.
She was a member of Green Street Baptist Church for more than 70 years and was actively involved in the Woman’s Missionary Society. She taught Sunday School and held various other positions in the church. She was married to Burgess G. Leonard Sr., who also preceded her in death in 1977. She had the unique privilege of being the wife of two Christian men, who served together on the board of deacons and the High Point City Council.
She was able to drive her car until she was 87 years old and enjoyed visiting shut-ins and five nursing homes each month. She was a loving friend to many and a very special wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Anne and Rudy Hinnant; three grandchildren, Jimmy Sears of Florida, Linda Sears Collie and her husband, Bernard, of High Point, and David Sears and his wife, Sally, of Pennsylvania; and three great-grandchildren, Jennifer Collie, Jeffrey Collie, and Erin Sears.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence of Ruth Anne and Rudy Hinnant, 909 Flicker Lane.

Pearlie Owen

Mrs. Pearlie Mae Potter Owen, 76, died March 19, 2001, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
She was born Aug. 12, 1924, in Avery County, a daughter of James Blaine and Viola Church Potter, who both preceded her in death. She was a resident of High Point for the past 50 years. She was a former employee of Home Bazaar and was of the Baptist faith. She married Donald Dunlap Owen in May, 1963, who preceded her in death Dec. 1980. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Mona Sue Potter McCoury Nov. 1998, and a sister, Louise Livingston Feb. 11, 1989.
Surviving are a son-in-law, Eddie C. McCoury Jr. of High Point; three grandchildren, James Patrick McCoury of Thomasville, Eddie McCoury III of Archdale and Susan M. Bennett of Summerfield; four great-grandchildren, Jessica Ann McCoury, Heather Elaine McCoury and Jonathan Tyler McCoury, all of Archdale, and Christopher Scott Bennett of Summerfield; a brother, James B. Potter of Glenburnie, Md.; four sisters, Helen Potter of High Point, Gertrude Shook and Bernetta Andrews, both of Glenburnie, and Delores Jenkins of Pensacola, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, by the Rev. Jesse Burford. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

O.Z. Tucker of 1413 Futrell Drive died march 20, 2001, at Wesleyan Arms Inc.
He was born Oct. 7, 1916, in Calhoun, Ga., a son of the Rev. Alexander Tucker and Asalee Campbell, who both preceded him in death.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at New Beginning Ministries. Visitation will be 1:30 p.m. at the church.

Mrs. Rosemary Whitaker, 60, of 4902 Roseway Road died March 20, 2001, at Randolph County Hospital.

Mabel Canady

Mrs. Mabel Payne Padgett Canady, 91,of Alamance Health Care Center died March 21, 2001, of congestive heart failure after four years of declining health.
She was born May 14, 1909, in Danville, Va., a daughter of Jesse Louis and Martha Gammon Payne. She was a former resident of High Point since 1926. She was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and a member of the Peacock Bible Class, where she served as pianist for more than 40 years. She also served as organist for several local churches. On Nov. 20, 1926, she married Roy Martin Padgett, who preceded her in death Nov. 21, 1958. On Aug. 31, 1961, she married Claude S. Canady, who also preceded her in death Dec. 14, 1982.
Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Patricia Padgett High of High Point; a son, Dr. Robert Louis Padgett of Springfield, Va.; a sister, Mrs. Marie P. Abrams of Charlotte; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, High Point, by the Rev. Garland Young and Robert L. Pagett. Private graveside service will be in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Margaret Alice Joyner Gilreath, 88, formerly of Greensboro, died at her residence.

Johnnie Junior Hampton, 90, of Wesleyan Arms Inc., formerly of William and Mary Apartments, died March 21, 2001, at the nursing facility.
He was born July 20, 1910, in Stokes County, a son of John Henry and Bessie Margaret Slate Hampton. He was a High Point resident most of his life and he retired from Burlington Industries. He was a member of Ward Street United Methodist Church. He was married to the former Mabel Johnson, who preceded him in death on Jan. 20, 1975.
Surviving are a daughter, Ms. Bonnie Hampton of High Point; a son, Donald Hampton of Concord; two sisters, Mrs. Ada Eggleston of Lilburn, Ga., and Mrs. Kate Ellis of High Point; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday in Floral Garden Park Cemetery by the Rev. James C. Smith. There will be no visitation.

Mrs. Jessie Amelia Saunders Harney, 89, of 4303 La Vera St., formerly of Amityville, N.Y., died March 20, 2001.
She was born Nov. 15, 1911, in Brooklyn, N.Y., a daughter of Joseph and Amelia K. Saunders. She was a homemaker and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Frank B. Harney, Aug. 5, 1995.
Surviving are three daughters, Mary Ann Harkins of Atlanta, Bernadette Burns of New York and Melanie Smallwood of Houston; two sons, Gregory Harney of High Point and Anthony Harney of Bethesda, Md.; a sister, Florence Stover of Austin, Texas; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be said noon Friday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church by Father John J. Kelly, O.S.F.S. A prayer service will be held 7 p.m. tonight at Sechrest Funeral Service, E. Lexington Avenue. Visitation will be tonight after the prayer service until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Frances Louise Westmoreland Huneycutt, 78, of Liberty Woods Nursing Center, formerly of 153 Melody Lane, died March 20, 2001, at Liberty Nursing Center.
She was born July 1, 1922, in Denton, a daughter of Willie Oscar Westmoreland and Cora Grice Westmoreland. She was a lifelong resident of this area. She was employed with Maurice Hosiery, Ragan Hosiery and retired from Stone’s Quilting. She attended Hillside Park Baptist Church. On March 22, 1941, she was married to Cecil Huneycutt, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Gordon (Sherry) Stone of the residence and Mrs. Wayne (Kathy) Littleton of Southmont; a half sister, Mary Sue Voncannon of Farmer; two grandchildren, Patrick Hicks of Sophia and David Hicks of Georgia; and four great-grandsons.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel by the Rev. John Wheeles. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence, 153 Melody Lane.

Ms. Mary Ruth Lohr, 79, died March 20, 2001.
She was born March 3, 1922, in Davidson County, a daughter of Fred Luther and Fannie Belle Shuler Lohr. She was a homemaker and a member of Emanuel United Church of Christ.
Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Elaine Blankenship and her husband, David, of 643 Motsinger Road; three sisters, Mrs. Verda Crouse, Mrs. Pete (Beatrice) Coley and Mrs. Mozelle Black, all of Thomasville; four grandchildren, David Wayne Blankenship, Sam Blankenship, Heather Brinkley, Harrison Boles and Chad Williamson.
