Trinity - Willis Clair Hill, 66, of 2250 Lynn Circle West died Nov. 21, 1999, at his residence.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete with Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.

Verna Keith
High Point - Rev. Verna Roberta McMillan Keith, 94, of Wesleyan Manor died Nov. 21, 1999, at Wesleyan Arms Nursing Home.
She was born July 10, 1905, in North Vernon, Ind., a daughter of the Rev. Clyde H. and Florence Mae Maupin McMillan. In 1926, she graduated from God’s Bible School and College in Cincinnati. She spent 31 years in Africa with her husband and family as a missionary teacher in Swaziland, South Africa, and Zambia. She was a member of First Wesleyan Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Clarence Gault Keith, in 1991.
Survivors are three sons, Dr. John P. Keith of Las Vegas, Dr. David L. Keith of High Point, and Dr. Robert D. Keith of Lansing, Mich.; five daughters, Mrs. Esther A. Snyman of Bartlesville, Okla., Mrs. Bethel M. Lorenzen of Toledo, Ohio, Mrs. Mary M. Gunsalus of Roanoke, Va., Mrs. Bonnie G. Sheen of Sunfield, Mich., Mrs. Verona R. Barrows of Tulsa, Okla.; 20 grandchildren; and 27 great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Merritt Funeral Home Chapel in Brooksville, Fla. Burial will be in Brooksville Cemetery. Visitation will be 1:30-2 p.m. Saturday at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Eastchester Drive.
Memorials may made to the Department of World Missions Wesleyan Church, P.O. Box 50434, Indianapolis, Indiana 46250. Please designate contributions for Africa Missions.

Josie Key
High Point - Mrs. Josie McGuire Key, 88, died Nov. 21, 1999, at the High Point Regional Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born Jan. 18, 1911, in Todd, a daughter of Joseph and Margaret Grogan McGuire. She had been a resident of High Point since 1937 and, along with her husband, operated High Point Grocery Store on E. Russell Street. Following retirement, she was associated with her daughter at the Christian Bible Center on N. Main Street. She was a member of Oak View United Methodist Church and the Olive Overby Sunday School Class. She was married to Thomas C. Key, who preceded her in death on July 3, 1993.
Surviving are a son, Rev. Joel T. Key and wife, Faith, of 2126 Chestnut St. Extension; five grandchildren, Rev. Mark J. Key and wife, Joy, Stephen Ken and wife, Karen, Philip Key and wife, Deborah, Randall Thompson and wife, Debbie, Cheryl Chapman and husband, Pete; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Wood of Todd and Mrs. Ruby Trivette of North Wilkesboro; and two brothers, Burl McGuire of High Point and Coy McGuire of Boomer. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Christine Key Thompson.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Oakview United Methodist Church by the Rev. Ernest (Sonny) Reavis and the Rev. Timothy L. Auman. Graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. in the Mountlawn Memorial Park at North Wilkesboro. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the Cumby Family Funeral Service on E. Lexington Avenue and other times at the home of the son.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Mark, Stephen and Philip Key, Jason Combs, Randall Thompson and Pete Chapman.
Memorials may be directed to Oakview United Methodist Church, 321 Oakview Road, High Point, N.C. 27265.

Dorothy Lanning
Lexington - Ms. Dorothy (Dot) P. Lanning, 86, of Brown Street, died Nov. 21, 1999.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fairmont Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home.

Patricia Spurgeon
High Point - Ms. Patricia Gale Duncan Spurgeon, 53, of 152 Ledford Circle died Nov. 21, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Nov. 17, 1946, in Guilford County, a daughter of Oscar Lemon Duncan Sr. and Grace Lillian Boyd Duncan. She had been a resident of High Point all her life.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Jodie Spurgeon-Yocum and Miss Mesha Spurgeon, both of 305 Canterbury Road; her mother of High Point; two sisters, Mrs. Lula Ivey of Thomasville and Mrs. Frances Hollifield; a brother, Oscar Duncan Jr. of Archdale; and a granddaughter, Kendall AraGreen Yocum.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Holly Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum by Dr. Keith Letterman. The family will receive friends at the home of Jodie Yocum and Mesha Spurgeon, 305 Canterbury Road. Family Funeral Care, 18 Randolph St., Thomasville, is in charge of arrangements.

Lois Sylvis
Fayetteville - Mrs. Lois Young Sylvis, 77, of 571 Ohmer Drive died Nov. 22, 1999, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
She was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Joe Sylvis of the home; a son, Michael J. Sylvis; a sister, Elizabeth Duhaime of New Brockton, Ala.; and a grandson, David Michael Sylvis.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Jernigan-Warren Chapel of Fayetteville by the Rev. Richard Brown. Burial will be in Sandhills State Veteran Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, 6248 Cliffdale Road, Fayetteville, N.C. 28314.

William Wall Jr.
High Point - William Sexton Wall Jr., 81, of 1500 Delk Drive, died Nov. 21, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Feb. 24, 1918, in High Point, the son of Sanky Branson and Zeola Sexton Wall. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a veteran of World War II, serving the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Civitan Club, a member of the Exchange Club and a member of First United Methodist Church. On June 22, 1945, he married Cliffie Jackson and she preceded him in death on Aug. 12, 1996.
Surviving are one son, William Sexton Wall Jr. of Denton; one sister, Mrs. Lib Phillips of Winston-Salem; one brother, John Wall of Statesville.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sechrest Chapel on E. Lexington Avenue by the Rev. Donnell Lloyd. Inurnment will be in the First United Methodist Church Columbarium. The family will receive friends at Sechrest Funeral Home on E. Lexington Avenue from 7 until 8:30 tonight.
Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church, 512 N. Main Street, High Point, N.C. 27260.

Billy Wood
Lexington - Billy Lee Wood, 49, of Belmont Road, died Nov. 22, 1999.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Johnny Burris
High Point - Johnny Lee Burris, 46, died Nov. 19, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Mt. Dowell Baptist Church, McConnells, S.C. Burial will be in Bethlehem Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. today at the church.

James Coffey
High Point - James Robert Coffey, 57, of High Point, died Nov. 11, 1999, at his home.
He was born Sept. 27, 1942, in Watauga County, a son of James Bynum and Agnes Wright Coffey. He retired in 1991, as treasurer of Jefferson-Pilot Fire and Casualty Co. He was a member of Parkwood Baptist Church. He was first tenor with the Living Faith Quartet of Colfax for 25 years and for one year was with the Galilean Quartet in Reidsville.
Surviving are two daughters; one son; and two grandchildren.
Private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Family Funeral Care in Thomasville is in charge of arrangements.

Ollie Dowdy
High Point - Mrs. Ollie Mae Caddell Dowdy, 88, of 1302 Wendell Avenue, died Nov. 22. 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital, where she had been a patient for one month.
She was born in Eagle Springs, a daughter of Charlie Caddell and Alice Richardson Caddell Dunn. Most of her adult years were spent in Washington, D.C., where she was employed by a private family. Twenty years ago, she came to High Point to make her home and here she joined First Emmanuel Baptist Church and was active in her attendance until stricken with failing health. Her parents; five brothers; and five sisters preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Russell Dowdy of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Julia Ritter and Mrs. Marie Leonard, both of High Point; a great-niece, Mrs. Cynthea Cullins, whom she reared as her own. There are nieces; nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews; cousins; brother-in-law, Henry Dowdy of Carthage; sister-in-law, Bessie L. Henderson and husband, Johnny, of Lakeview; and devoted friends.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Emmanuel Baptist Church by the Rev. Lawrence Curtis. Burial will be in Carolina Biblical Gardens. Family visitation will be at the church 1:30 p.m. Friday, and other times at the residence of Mrs. Marie Leonard, 313 Montlieu Avenue. Haizlip Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Carrie Goss
High Point - Ms. Carrie Cornelia Goss, 72, of SunBridge of the Triad, formerly of Cloverdale Street, died Nov. 23, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Haizlip Funeral Home.

Willis Hill
Trinity - Willis Clair Hill, 66, of 2250 Lynn Circle West, died Nov. 21, 1999, at his residence.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service.

Carmen Jennings
Thomasville - Mrs. Carmen Jennings, 76, of 1001-A Liberty Arms Court, went to be with her two sons in heaven on Nov. 22, 1999, at her home.
She was born in Guayama, Puerto Rico on Dec. 10, 1923, a daughter to Nazario Rodiguez and Damiana Roman. She was a retired employee of Anvil Brand of High Point and was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Terry Monroe Jennings and Jerry Edward Jennings.
Surviving are a daughter, Jo Anne Jennings Gladwell and fiancee, Bill Walton, of Lexington; two sons, Ray Anthony Jennings and wife, Kay, of Carrollton, Texas, and David Edward Jennings and wife, April, of Boiling Springs, S.C.; two granddaughters, Lisa Gladwell of Sparta and Nicole Jennings of Durham; six grandsons, Phil Gladwell and wife, Pam, of High Point, Mark Gladwell and wife, LeeSa, of Winston-Salem, Steve Gladwell of High Point, Jonathan Jennings of Boiling Springs, S.C., William Walton of Lexington and Joshua Walton of Lexington; two great-grandsons, Mark Austin Gladwell of Winston-Salem and Cody Hollar Gladwell of High Point.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at the chapel of the Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point by the Rev. Elton Wilborne. Burial will be in Deep River Friends Meetings Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday and other times at the residence.
