He was a former school teacher, basketball and cross-country track coach at William Penn until he moved to Andrews High School in High Point in 1968.

Mrs. Shirley Isabel Hucks, 67, of 2391 Whitehorn Drive died March 22, 2001, at Westwood Health and Rehabilitation Center in Archdale.
She was born Jan. 12, 1934, in Danville, Pa., a daughter of Samuel Arthur and Pearl Frances Nuss. She was a 1952 graduate of Danville High School in Danville, Pa. She retired from Food Lion Inc. She was a member of Green Street Baptist Church in High Point and a member of the Hilda Neill Sunday School Class. On Jan. 28, 1975, she was married to Aaron S. Hucks, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are a daughter, Carla Raye Maize of Riverside, Pa.; two sons, David Eckroth of Deland, Fla., and Mike Eckroth of Duncan, S.C.; three stepsons, Bob Hucks of High Point, Harold Hucks of Atlanta and Mark Hucks of Archdale; her mother, Pearl Nuss of Pennsylvania; a brother, Jim Nuss of Danville, Pa.; two sisters, Jean Nuss and Mary Welliver, both of Pennsylvania; and 14 grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, by the Rev. Gene Phillips. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Theresa Etheredge Johnson, 39, of 913 Skeet Club Road, died March 21, 2001, minutes after arrival at High Point Regional Hospital after declining health of two years.

Osborn “Ike” Kersey, 53, of 1502-B Leonard Ave. died March 20, 2001, at High Point Regional Hospital.
Surviving is a brother, John W. Kersey.

Ms. Mary Ruth Lohr, 79, died March 20, 2001.
She was born March 3, 1922, in Davidson County, a daughter of Fred Luther and Fannie Belle Shuler Lohr. She was a homemaker and a member of Emanuel United Church of Christ.
Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Elaine Blankenship and her husband, David, of 643 Motsinger Road; three sisters, Mrs. Verda Crouse, Mrs. Pete (Beatrice) Coley and Mrs. Mozelle Black, all of Thomasville; four grandchildren, David Wayne Blankenship, Jeanette Boles, Renee’ Blankenship and Debbie Todd; and five great-grandchildren, Josh Blakenship, Sam Blakenship, Heater Brinkley, Harrison Boles and Chad Williamson.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. today at the chapel of Family Funeral Care by the Rev. Carroll M. Upton. Burial will be in Emanuel United Church of Christ Cemetery.

Jerry Norwood Pierce, 58, of 1702 E. Lexington Ave. died March 21, 2001.
He was born May 5, 1942, in High Point, a son of Thomas E. and Glennie Smith Pierce. He was a lifelong resident of High Point. He was associated with Alma Desk Co. for 32 years and retired from Marsh Cabinets due to ill health. He was a member of Lexington Avenue Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Jack, Harold, Billy Ray and Edward Donald Pierce.
Surviving are his sister, Mrs. Betty Woodle, and her husband, Donnie, of Lexington; and two brothers, Glenn Pierce and his wife, Joyce, of 1218 Terrell Drive, and Ken Pierce, and his wife, Jeanette, of 900 Pineburr Road, Jamestown.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Sechrest Chapel, E. Lexington Avenue, by the Rev. Ray Hamilton, the Rev. David Younger and Robert Harrison. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Sechrest Funeral Service, E. Lexington Avenue.

Mrs. Ava “Eloise” Ross Reep, 74, died March 21, 2001, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
She was born March 12, 1927, in Gaston County, Cherryville, a daughter of Vance Christopher and Mary Beam Ross, who both preceded her in death. She was married to Clyde James Reep Sr., who also preceded her in death. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and a retired beautician. She also was preceded in death by her brother, Forrest Ross.
Surviving are three sons, Clyde James Reep Jr. of Greensboro, Wayne Douglas Reep of Hickory and Jeffery Todd Reep of High Point; three sisters, Wilba Collier of Winter Park, Fla., Hazelene Hallman of Cherryville, and Maryanne Hoover of Greenville; and three grandchildren, Kelly Drew Reep, Evan Todd Reep and Nolan Jeffrey Reep.
Funeral will be noon Saturday at Catawba Funeral Home by the Rev. Gregory B. Williams. Burial will be in Catawba Memorial Park. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.

Squire Woodrow Sams, 82, of 6627 Old Liberty Road died March 20, 2001.
He was a Stokes County native. He retired from Guy Turner. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II. He attended Cool Springs Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Mabe Sams.
Surviving are his stepson, Kenneth Homes of Franklinville; four stepdaughters, Gladys Jarvis of Regis Falls, N.Y., Margaret Daniels of Asheboro, Janette Allred and Rhoda Harmon, both of Franklinville; a brother, Roy Sams of Trinity; 21 stepgrandchildren; 18 stepgreat-grandchildren; and 3 stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Cool Springs Baptist Church by the Rev. John Harmon and the Rev. Keith Bischer. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, and other times at the residence of his stepdaughter, Rhoda Harmon, 2788 Cool Spring Church Road.

Mrs. Dorothy Gray Marion Varker, 69, of Elwin Circle died March 21, 2001, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center after a serious illness of a week.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence of her son, Barry Varker, 2133 Riverview Road.
Edward Anderton

Edward Anderton Jr., 1004 Enterprise St., died March 24, 2001, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro. He was born in New York, N.Y., to Edward and Loretta Robinson Anderton. He was a member of Greater First United Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Usher Board. He served in the U.S. Army and Reserves.
Surviving are his wife, Christina Gordon Anderton of the home; one daughter, Teresia Carlisle of Columbia, S.C., and one son, Edward Anderton III of Connecticut; seven sisters, Marie (Freddie) McCain, Loretta Sherman, Joan Hunter, Reponzel Leach, all of Columbia, S.C.; Gladys Whitenburg of Union City, Ga.; Gloria (George) Skipwith of Seattle, Wash., and Lillie Anderton of High Point; six grandchildren; five step-children; 16 step-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral will be Wednesday at Greater First United Baptist Church on Deep River Road in High Point at 2 p.m. by the Rev. William S. Fails. Burial will be at Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church and other times at the home.
Hoover’s funeral home is in charge of final arrangements.
Clarence Baldwin

Clarence Dudley Baldwin, 80, of 4264 Old Marlboro Road, died March 24, 2001. He was born Jan. 12, 1921, in Richmond County to George Dewey and Nora Alice Kellis Baldwin. He had been employed by Hillsville Lumber Co.
He was married to the former Gladys Thompson, who survives, of Sophia. Also surviving are two daughters, Carolyn Fowler and her husband David, and Eunice Wilson and her husband, Landis, all of Sophia; two sons, Tony Baldwin and wife, Lee Ann, of Julian, and David Baldwin of Sophia; a sister, Margaret Hulsey of Star; a brother, Everett Baldwin of Laurinburg; and 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dewey Baldwin.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of Cumby Funeral Service in Archdale by the Rev. Buster Wilson and the Rev. Charles Walker. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery in Seagrove. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. tonight at the Funeral Home.
