Dedrick Samuels Sr., 77, of Woodhaven Drive died at 9:38 p.m. March 13, 2001, at Lexington Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday at the church parlor.

Mrs. Sybil Garner Scheidegg, 72, of 329 N. New St., formerly of High Point, N.C., died March 12, 2001, at Moravian Manor in Lititz after a long courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.
She was born June 24, 1928, a daughter of Everett W. Garner and Hazel Atkinson Garner Ivey, who both preceded her in death.
Surviving are her husband of 51 years, Ferdinand Scheidegg of the residence; a daughter, Sandy S. Fortuna, and her husband, Andy, of New Jersey; a son, Jerry Scheidegg, and his wife, Linda, of Lititz; her stepmother, Nola E. Garner; stepsisters, Jeanette E. Wilson and her husband, Melvin, of 400 E. Springfield Road, High Point; a very loving brother and sister-in-law, William E. “Bill” and Rachel L. Garner of 117 Buena Vista Ave., High Point; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday in Brownsville, Pa.

Frank Ammons

Mr. Frank G. Ammons, 82, of 212 Yorktown Road, died March 16, 2001 at Forsyth Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 28, 1917 in Copper Hill, Tenn., a son of Albert Walker and Nora Cross Ammons. Prior to moving to Kernersville four and one-half years ago, he had been a resident of the Waynesville/Canton area for 50 years. He was a former member of the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Canton. There he served on the board of deacons and sang in the church choir. He was a member of the Bethel Lions Club and active in the American Legion. After moving to Kernersville, he became a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, where he was also a member of the Noah Sunday School Class. On June 28, 1942, he was married to the former Roxie Irene Allen, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Terry Ammons of Thomasville; a sister, Mrs. Alice Moore Woodard of Sylva; a granddaughter, Kelly Ashlinn Ammons of Kernersville; and two step grandchildren, Taylor Alexander Hiatt and Ian Richard Hiatt.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hillcrest Baptist Church by the Rev. Michael Smith. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Sue Ellen Deese Dellinger, 87, of 305 Pineywood Road, died March 17, 2001, in Libertywood Nursing Home.
She was born June 23, 1913 in Greenlee, a daughter of Allison Pinkney Deese and Betty Hollar Deese. She was a homemaker and a member of Fair Grove United Methodist Church. On Jan. 14, 1939, she was married to Eugene Ezmond Dellinger, who preceded her in death Feb. 18, 1963.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Joe (Pat) Stanley of Thomasville; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Brakefield of Conover and Mrs. Helen Herman of Hickory; three grandchildren, Chip Stanley of Thomasville, Daphane Stanley Gordon of Belmont and Zane Stanley of Charlotte; and five great-grandchildren, Georgia Madison Stanley, Connor Patrick Stanley, Rachel Gordon, Erin Stanley and Lauren Stanley.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Fair Grove United Methodist Church by the Rev. David White. Graveside services will follow at 3:30 p.m. in Eastview Cemetery in Newton. The body will remain at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home until the service hour. Visitation at the residence of the daughter, Mrs. Pat Stanley, 232 Roxie Drive, Thomasville. Loflin, longtime civic leader, former commissioner, dies
TRINITY – Mr. Branson Worth Loflin, 86, of 7430 N.C. 62, died March 16, 2001, at High Point Regional Hospital following a short illness.
He was born July 25, 1914 in Davidson County, a son of Gurney Branson and Ella Hughes Loflin. He had been a resident of Trinity since 1945, a graduate of Trinity High School and attended N.C. State University. He was a former land developer and retired owner and operator of Loflin Lumber Co. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Brotherhood Sunday School Class, former trustee, deacon, and served on various committees in the church. He was a member of the Archdale-Trinity Lions Club for 50 years, with 25 years of perfect attendance, and received Lion of the Year in 1983 and 1986. He was a charter member of the Trinity Ruritan Club, past president of the Guil-Rand Fire Department, former Randolph County Commissioner and former director of Centura Bank. On Oct. 12, 1940, he was married to Juanita Steed, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Janice Smith and husband Ronald of Trinity, Phyllis Brenman of New York and Mrs. Sylvia Baird and husband Harry of Emerald Isle; four grandchildren, Lisa Norman and husband Dan of Lexington, Dane Lawing and wife Jessica of New York, Angela Smith and husband Joe of Trinity and Cort Lawing of Charlotte; three great-granchildren, Alex Smith, Alacy Norman and Zoey Lawing; one sister, Mrs. Mabel Myers of Thomasville, and one brother, Mr. Dolan Loflin and wife Josephine of Thomasville.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Baptist Church by the Rev. Kenneth R. Evans, the Rev. J.C. Alley and Dr. Elliot B. Stewart. Burial will follow in Trinity Cemetery. The body will remain at the Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale until 30 minutes prior to the service. Visitation 6:30-8:30 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. Mrs. Laura Mae Holley McRae, 75, of 1009 Redding Drive, died March 15, 2001, at her residence.
She was born June 8, 1925, in Oakdale, Tenn., a daughter of the late Tom and Dona Hobbs Holley. She was a supervisor with Highland Cotton Mills before her retirement and attended Faith Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. McRae in 1985.
Survivors are a daughter, Debbie Lamb of Archdale; a son, James “Ben” McRae and his wife, Norah of Washington, D.C.; a brother, William T. Holley of Newport News, Va.; and grandchildren, Marc Paul McRae and Holley and Matt Lamb.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale by the Rev. Bradley Pharr. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-4:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ruth Yates Thomas, 82, of 315 Mountain View Drive, died March 16, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center.
She was born in Guilford County, a daughter of the late Robert L. Yates Sr. and Julia Kenett Yates, and was a member of the Woodland Baptist Church.
Survivors are her husband of 67 years, the Rev. Raymond (Preacher Bud) Thomas of the home, a daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Duke Peddycord of Germanton; three sons and their wives, Robert Lowell and Hazel Thomas of High Point, Raymond and Kathleen Thomas of Elko, S.C., Russell and Yuwadee Thomas of San Jose, Calif.; brothers Robert Lee Yates Jr. and wife Raye, Forrest Eugene Yates and wife Fran, all of Greensboro; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
