Lois Shaw
Clearwater, Fla - Mrs. Lois Renfrow Shaw, 92, formerly of High Point and Raleigh died Nov. 21, 1999, in Clearwater.
She was born Jan. 15, 1907, in Gastonia. She was married to Wade Renfrow in 1927, the same year she was Miss High Point. The couple initially resided in High Point, where Mr. Renfrow was city editor of the High Point Enterprise, and then publisher and editor of a weekly newspaper, The Beacon. They moved to Raleigh in 1953. She was widowed and began a career at Meredith College in Raleigh, serving as executive secretary to three presidents and as resident advisor. She retired in 1980 and moved to Florida. In 1982, she married Colonel Virgil Shaw, a retiree of the Army, and was again widowed in 1989.
Survivors include a son, Robert P. Renfrow of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a daughter, Ann Farlow, of Clearwater, Fla.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Glen Blankenbeckler
Kernersville - Glen Claude Blankenbeckler, 72, died Nov. 24, 1999, at his residence.
He was born in Marion, Va., on Feb. 5, 1927, a son of David William and Pearl Alice Hale Blankenbeckler. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a retired supervisor with Sprint telephone. He was an avid golfer and had lived in Kissimmee, Fla., for several years before returning to North Carolina. He was married to Joan Faye Stewart Blankenbeckler, who died in 1998.
Surviving are a son, Wayne Blankenbeckler and his wife, Carol, of the home; a brother, Neil Blankenbeckler of High Point; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral conducted by Dr. Phil Stapp will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Harold C. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in High Point. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:30 p.m. until the service hour Saturday.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County, 1100-C S. Stratford Road, Suite 3201, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103.

Dortha Graham
Lexington - Dortha Damron Graham, 87, died Nov. 25, 1999.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Davidson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home of daughter Mary Edmonds.

Louise Newton
High Point - Mrs. Louise Rowley Newton, 71, a resident of Evergreens Nursing Home for the last year and a half, died of pneumonia the morning of Nov. 25, 1999. She had been suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease for about four years.
She was born April 5, 1928, in Montclair, N.J., the daughter of Stanton L. and Eleanor Bradford Rowley. She had been a resident of Jamestown for 17 years.
Surviving are her husband, William F. Newton Jr. of Jamestown; two sons, William F. Newton, III of High Point and S. Bradford Newton and his wife, Mary Margaret, of Atlanta; a sister, Mrs. Charles A Dexter of Lexington, Mass.; and two grandchildren, Samuel and Joe Newton of Atlanta.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Sechrest Funeral Home Chapel on E. Lexington Avenue by the Rev. Melvin Anderson. Burial will be in Newtonville, Mass.

Ruby Payne
Thomasville - Mrs. Ruby Craven Payne, 79, a resident of 141 Sallie Drive, died Nov. 24, 1999, in High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born March 30, 1920, in Davidson County, a daughter of Darius Burch Craven and Sallie Shoaf Craven. She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary United Church of Christ.
Surviving are her husband, Alfred Shields Payne of the home; a son, Lindsay S. Payne of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; a brother, Burch Craven of Thomasville; and a grandson, Brad Payne of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Calvary United Church of Christ with the Rev. Harold Holste and Dr. Joe D. Coltrane officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. She will remain at J.C Green & Sons Funeral Home until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 tonight and other times at the home.
The family requests memorials be directed to Calvary United Church of Christ, 1410 Lexington Avenue, Thomasville, N.C. 27360.

Chesley Pearson
High Point - Mrs. Chesley James Pearson, 83, a resident of The Evergreens and formerly of 3610 Westfield St., died Nov. 24, 1999, at the nursing facility.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.

Alvilda Ramsey
Thomasville - Ms. Alvilda Irene Cosner Ramsey, 55, of 1600 Kanoy Road, died at 7:18 a.m. on Nov. 24, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Sept. 6, 1944, in Lowden, Tenn., a daughter of Albert H. and Mae Lambert Cosner Whicker. She had been employed with North Carolina Garment Co.
Surviving are a special friend, Gene Calhoun; a son, Richard R. Ramsey of Thomasville; a sister, Ms. Lovonda Sue Ramsey of Thomasville; two brothers, William Terrell Cosner and his wife, Patricia, and Wayman Harold Cosner and his wife, Wilma, both of Trinity; three grandchildren, Justin, Joanna and Jeremy Ramsey; eight nieces and nephews; uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Cansler, and Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Lambeth.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Family Funeral Care Chapel by the Rev. Steve Jarvis. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The body will remain at Family Funeral Care, 18 Randolph St., Thomasville, and the family will be at the funeral home from 7-8:30 tonight and other times at the home of a sister, Ms. Lovonda Ramsey, 15 Grace Drive, Thomasville.

Josephine Steed
Archdale - Josephine Giles Steed, 91, formerly of High Point, died Nov. 25, 1999, at Triad United Methodist Home in Winston-Salem.
She was born April 15, 1908, in Randolph County, a daughter of Joseph and Martha Fentress Giles. She attended Women’s College (now UNC-Greensboro) and was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. She was married to Roy Glenn Steed, who died March 20, 1986.
She is survived by a son, the Rev. Roy Glenn Steed Jr. and his wife, Annette Allred Steed, of Summerfield; a sister, Mrs. Opal Vanderslice of Florida; four grandchildren, Kim Steed Thomas and her husband, Craig, of Kodak, Tenn., Roy Mark Steed and his wife, Caroline, of Greensboro, James Matthew Steed and his wife, Jessica, of Ansonville, and John Glenn Steed and his wife, Lorie, of Archdale; and two great-grandchildren, April and Amanda Thomas.
Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Ebenezer United Methodist Church by the Rev. Ken Day and the Rev. Jim Allred. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Sechrest Funeral Home, 120 Trindale Road, Archdale.

Tom Wooten
Welcome - Thomas “Tom” Wooten, 88, of Welcome died Nov. 24, 1999, at Lexington Memorial Hospital.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at their homes.

Arvelle Yates
Thomasville - Arvelle O. Yates, 74, a resident of Oak Island and a former resident of Kerns Street, died Nov. 25, 1999.
He was born Sept. 26, 1925, in Davidson County, a son of Roy and Susie James Yates. He had been a resident of Thomasville most of his life where he worked with Gilbarco, Inc. for 20 years until retiring in 1987. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy, a member of V.F.W. Post #2756 and a former member of Moose Lodge #1868. While a resident of Thomasville, he was a member of Carolina Memorial Baptist Church and the Men’s Sunday School Class. On Aug. 21, 1963, he was married to Nell Louise Briggs, who died Jan. 16, 1979.
Surviving are one brother, Bill Yates of Lexington, S.C., and a special friend, Jackie Killian of Oak Island.
Graveside services conducted by the Rev. Stewart White will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Family Funeral Care in Thomasville.
Any memorials are requested to be sent to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Jeffrey Bazen
Trinity - Jeffrey Allen Bazen, 36, of 6826 Country Meadows Lane died Nov. 25, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born May 15, 1963, in High Point, a son of James “Jim” and Barbara Miller Bazen. He had been a resident of Trinity most of his life and was employed as plant manager with Triad Fabco Inc. He was president of Trindale Builders Inc. and Craftsman Builders Inc. He was owner and operator of Bazen Income Tax Service. He was a member of Highland Baptist Church, treasurer of the missionary society, bus driver, youth Sunday school teacher, children’s church director and youth worker. On Nov. 2, 1987, he was married to Betty (Kathy) Strickland, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are two daughters, Charity Noel and Holly Elisabeth Bazen, both of the home; a son, Jeffrey Andrew Bazen of the home; his parents of 3109 Loblolly Drive, Sophia; two brothers, Johnny Albert Bazen of 3291 Roy Farlow Road, Sophia, and David Thomas Bazen of 704 Playground Road, Archdale.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Highland Baptist Church by Dr. Keith D. Letterman. Interment will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 4 p.m. Sunday. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the church, 1204 Textile St.
Memorials may be directed to Highland Baptist Church, 1204 Textile St., High Point, N.C. 27260.
Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale is in charge of arrangements.

William Beeson
High Point - William Monroe Beeson, 68, of 1885 Wallburg-High Point Road died Nov. 25, 1999, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
He was born Oct. 6, 1931, in Davidson County, a son of Orville John and Emma Annalee Smith Beeson. He was a carpenter, farmer and a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Abbotts Creek Missionary Baptist Church. On Dec. 23, 1955, he married Barbara Jean Sells, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. June Renee Reece and her husband, Joe Don, of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Mrs. Grace Lee Green and Mrs. Cora Ruth Lassiter, both of High Point; two brothers, Paul Ray Beeson and John Wesley Beeson, both of High Point; and three grandchildren, Jonathan Monroe Newsome, Jake Reece and Beth Newsome. He was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Raymond Beeson.
Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Abbotts Creek Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Lee Stocks, the Rev. Roy Cantrell and the Rev. Jack Rose. Military graveside rites will be held in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Sechrest Funeral Home on E. Lexington Avenue, and other times at the home of his daughter at 1840 Friendship Ledford Road, Winston-Salem.
Memorials may be directed to Abbotts Creek Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund, 2816 Abbotts Creek Church Road, High Point, N.C. 27265.

Margarette Fulghum
Lexington - Ms. Margarette Langston Fulghum, 95, of Lexington died Nov. 26, 1999.
Funeral will be held 4 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home.

C. Brown Harris
Trinity - Carl Brown Harris, 73, of 6551 Charlie Harris Road, died Nov. 25, 1999, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
He was born Oct. 9, 1926, in Randolph County, a son of Lolar P. and Julia Gordon Harris. He was an employee of Thomasville Furniture Industries, plant A, retiring in 1978. He was an avid fox hunter and was of the Baptist faith. On Nov. 23, 1946, he was married to the former Dorothy Trotter, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are two daughters, Margie L. Harris and Diane H. Poplin of Lexington; four sisters, Marinda Barnes of Denton, Vaden Harris, Mattie Coltrane and Lillian Robbins, all of Asheboro; a brother, James Harris of Trinity; a granddaughter, Julia Smith; and three great-grandchildren, Heather Pullum, Billy Pullum and Chastity Smith.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Bethel Baptist Church by the Rev. Claudie Harrison and the Rev. Claude Byerly. Interment will be in Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Family Funeral Care, 18 Randolph St., Thomasville, and other times at the home of Margie Harris, 307 Gary Rock Road North, Trinity.
