Thomasville - Ray Ballew, 75, of 163 Wintbrook Road died at 3:12 a.m. Dec. 27, 1999, at Community General Hospital.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in National Cemetery, Salisbury by the Rev. Robert Moore. Visitation will be at the funeral home 7-8 tonight and other times at the residence.
Alice Caulder
Trinity - Mrs. Alice Faye Hilburn Caulder, 55, beloved wife and mother, of 1137 Thayer Road died Dec. 26, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Jan. 28, 1944, in Lumberton, a daughter of J.T. and Ethel Hodge Hilburn. She was a homemaker and enjoyed helping her husband work with woodcraft. She was a member of Sophia Church of God. On Jan. 28, 1962, she married Bobby Ray Caulder, who survives of the residence. She was preceded in death by a brother, James Curtis Hilburn.
Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. David (Debbie) Hollifield of Thomasville, Mrs. Tommy (Sheila) O’Reilly of Trinity and Mrs. Curtis (Lisa) Teague of Archdale; seven grandchildren, Matthew Jones, Jessica Hollifield, Amber Hollifield, Robert O’Reilly, Lauren E. O’Reilly, Joshua Curtis Teague and Stephen Ray Teague; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Lee Hill and Mrs. Shirley Bunell, both of Parkton, and Mrs. Ellen Ray Carroll of Fayetteville; and three brothers, Jimmy Wayne Hilburn of Fayetteville, O’Neil Hilburn of St. Pauls and Frankie Hilburn of Autryville.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, by the Rev. Curtis Teague and the Rev. David Dunagan. Burial will be in the Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home 7-9 tonight and other times at residence.
John Hiat
Thomasville - John Parker Hiatt, 90, of 309 Reid St. died Dec. 27, 1999, at Beverly Health Care.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at J. C. Green & Sons Chapel by the Rev. David Best. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Wednesday.
Janet Lang
Randleman - Mrs. Janet Josephine Jones Lang, 38, of 102 Sibbett St. died Dec. 26, 1999, at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro.
She was born Jan. 8, 1961, in Guilford County, a daughter of Richard and Katie Caudle Jones. She was a member of Faith Family Ministries. On June 20, 1985, she married Eugene Lang, who survives of the residence.
Surviving are her mother and stepfather, Katie and Tom Madison of Trinity; a daughter, Kandace Marie Lang of the residence; two stepsons, Samuel Lang of Trinity and Daniel Lang of Thomasville; a brother, David Jones of Trinity; three sisters, Sandra Gill and Kristina Jones, both of High Point, and Amy Tate of Trinity; and six grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, by the Rev. Lowell Pocock and the Rev. Roy Edwards. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. Raymond Muncy
Greensboro - Raymond Lee Muncy, 53, of 4710 Eagle Rock Road died Dec. 26, 1999, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center after three months of declining health.
He was born Aug. 2, 1946, in Welch, W.Va., a son of Luther and Rhoda Burks Muncy. He was formerly a resident of High Point and lived in Greensboro nine years ago. He was owner and operator of Service Master of Greensboro and a veteran of the U.S. Marines having served in Vietnam. He was a member of First Wesleyan Church in High Point, where he was a member of the Jerry Farlow Sunday school class and was a leader of a caregroup. On Aug. 13, 1966, he married the former Margaret Lambert, who survives of the residence.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Russ (Michelle) Childress of Greensboro and Mrs. Derric (Sheri) Jennings of High Point; a sister, Mrs. Jerry (Brenda) McPeak of Richmond, Va.; and two grandsons, Jordan and Alexander Jennings.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Wesleyan Church, High Point by the Rev. John Vernon, the Rev. Mark D. McPeak and Garrett Thompson. Burial will be in Floral Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point.

Rock Hill, S.C. - Mrs. Mary McManus Plyler, 86, of 1264 Glasscock Road died Dec. 26, 1999, at her residence.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Neely’s Creek ARP Church. Visitation will 6-8 p.m. tonight at Greene Funeral Home.
Garfield Robbins
High Point - Garfield Finley Robbins, 88, formerly of 6966 Muddy Creek Road died Dec. 26, 1999, at Piedmont Christian Home. He was in declining health for several years.
He was born Aug. 20, 1911, in Randolph County, a son of Finley and Reta Ingram Robbins. He had been a resident of High Point and Archdale all his life. He retired from Griffin Upholstery Co. He was a member of First Wesleyan Church, the Men’s Bible Class, a former Sunday school teacher and a former member of the local board of administrative. Twice married, he was first married to Lucille Holder, who preceded him in death in 1977. On Nov. 17, 1978, he married Imogene Sumner Webster, who survives of 10805-B N. Main St., Archdale.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Odell (Sylvia) Link of Mebane and Mrs. Joe (Kathy) Stallings of 6982 Muddy Creek Road; two sons, Ronald G. Robbins and his wife, Margaret, of 6966 Muddy Creek Road, Archdale and C. Leon Robbins and his wife, Patsy, of Archdale; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, by the Rev. James L. Denny, the Rev. James Smith, and the Rev. Ken Day. Burial will be in Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:40 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and other times at the home of Mrs. Kathy Stallings.
Pallbearers will be John and Nolan Link, Tim and Dennis Robbins, Jason Shrum and Fred Wilson, all grandsons.

L. Chambers
Morehead City - Leon Chambers, 71, of Morehead City, formerly of High Point, died Dec. 25, 1999, at Carteret Hospital.
Surviving are three daughters; three sons; one grandson; and two sisters, Mrs. Doris Chambers Hall and Mrs. Patricia Chambers Brown.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. today at Kingdom Hall of Jehova’s Witness.

Hugh Cockram
Trinity - Hugh Cockram, 81, of 5109 Windemere Circle died Dec. 28, 1999, at his residence.
He was born July 15, 1918, at Meadows of Dan, Va., a son of Caleb Boyd and Annie Bet Howell Cockram. He was a resident of Trinity most of his life and he was owner and operator of H.C. Trucking. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He was married to the former Neda B. Young, who survives of the residence.
Surviving are a daughter, Thelma Johnson and her husband, Bryan, of Trinity; four grandchildren, Debbie Sykes and her husband, Garry, of Trinity, Bambi McAlexander and her husband, Tim, of Trinity, Christy Campbell and her husband, Ray, of Thomasville and Christopher Scott Suggs and his wife, Michelle, of High Point; and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Floral Garden Park Cemetery by the Rev. Bill V. Barnes. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale.

Dorothy Cutrell
High Point - Mrs. Dorothy Williams Cutrell, 74, formerly of Charlotte, died Dec. 26, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Aug. 7, 1925, in Tampa, Fla., a daughter of the Rev. Edison Wendell Williams and Daisy Pearl Fussell Williams. She was a graduate of Lee College, Cleveland, Tenn., and was a retired secretary from Donnelly F. Cameron Co. She was a member of Central Church of God in Charlotte and had served as church pianist, and den mother with the Cub Scouts within the Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Lorance Cutrell.
Surviving are three children, Marc LaRue Cutrell of High Point, Karla Yvette Cutrell and Jeffrey Dwayne Cutrell, both of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Gaster, Marshall Gaster Jr., Hunter Cutrell, and Haley Cutrell; and two sisters, Darlene Padgett of Simpsonville, S.C., and Barbara Morris of Pidgeon Forge, Tenn.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Harry and Bryant Chapel, 500 Providence Road, Charlotte, by the Rev. Loran Livingston of Central Church of God and the Rev. Riley Puckett of High Point Church of God. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Fronie Lewis
High Point - Mrs. Fronie Mitchell Lewis, 88, of GrayBrier Nursing Center, formerly of 701 S. Elm. St., died Dec. 27, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Sept. 9, 1911, in Sampson County, a daughter of William James and Ella Tew Mitchell. She was a resident of High Point since 1941 and was a retired employee of Bouldin Furniture Co. She was a member of Hayworth Wesleyan Church and Lydia Tucker Sunday school class. She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas C. Lewis and a daughter, Elizabeth “Sister” Lewis Sullivan.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. James (Wanda) Ross of Loletha, Kan., and Mrs. Bill (Julia) Cotner of 3107 Central Ave.; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Hayworth Wesleyan Church by the Rev. David M. Emery and the Rev. Jonathan W. Lewis. Burial will be in the Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the Cumby Family Funeral Service and other times at the residence of Mrs. Becky Lewis, 824 Parliament St.

Vero Beach, Fla. - Juanita E. Patnode, 74, died Dec. 27, 1999, at her residence after an extended illness.
She was born May 24, 1925, in China Grove, N.C. and moved to Vero Beach 20 years ago from Miami, Fla.
Surviving are her husband of five years, Edward W. Patnode of Vero Beach; a sister, Estelle E. Hill of High Point; a brother and sister-in-law, L.H. and Phyllis Efird of High Point; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Dwight O. and Oland R. Efird of High Point.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Strunk Funeral Home Chapel, by the Rev. Joe Brooks of Twentieth Avenue Church. Burial will be in Crestlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
