Archdale - Mrs. Virgie Bundy Greenway, 90, of 6541 Turnpike Road, died Jan. 1, 2000, at her residence.
She was a caring daughter and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was born Aug. 3, 1909, in Guilford County to W.G. and Mattie Franklin Bundy. She was a former resident of Dane Street in High Point and for the past 10 years, she had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Lib Whitlock. She was a lifelong resident of High Point and Archdale. She had been employed by Slane Hosiery Company and was a member of Archdale Friends Meeting and the Elizabeth Frye Sunday School Class. She was previously a member of Springfield Friends Meeting.
She was married to Gideon Anderson Greenway, who died Jan. 5, 1996. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Earl Bundy, Emmit Bundy, Robert Bundy and Donald Bundy; and three sisters, Stacy Reece, Edna Bundy and Myrtle Greenway. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Paul (Lib) Whitlock of 6541 Turnpike Road, Archdale; two grandsons, Roger Whitlock and his wife, Marty, of Durham, and Charles Whitlock of Butner; a great-grandson, Roger Whitlock II and his wife, Misti, of Wilmington; two great-great granddaughters, Erin Whitlock of High Point and Jeanece Bynon of Durham; two great-great grandsons, Samuel Whitlock and Owen Myles Whitlock; two great-great-granddaughters, Liz Whitlock and Sable Grizzel Whitlock and one sister, Mrs. Helen Snyder Leslie of Salisbury.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Archdale Friends Meeting by the Rev. Scott A. Wagoner. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale. Wallace Harvell
High Point - Mr. Wallace Reid Harvell, 75, resident of 1902 Eugene Ave. died Jan. 1, 2000, in High Point Regional Hospital. He had been in declining health for several months.
He was born Jan. 23, 1924, in High Point. a son of Jasper and Abbie Yates Harvell. He had been a resident of High Point most of his life and was retired from Heirloom Furniture Company. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Infantry in the U.S. Army and was a member of Landmark Baptist Church.
On Sept. 14, 1946, he was married to Pearlie Adams who survives of the home.
Also surviving are one son, Dennis Reid Harvell and his wife, Sherry, of 1937-B Eastchester Drive; one sister, Miss Opal Harvell of 1216 Lincoln Drive; two brothers, Forrest L. Harvell and his wife, Ruth, of 103 Princeton Ave. and Roland L. Harvell and his wife, Hope, of 511 Ridgecrest Drive; and two grandchildren, Eric and Kristie Harvell.
Funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the chapel of Cumby Family Service in High Point by the Rev. Wayne D. Richardson. Burial will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 toinght at the funeral home.

Jamestown - Mr. Frank Russell Hassell Sr., 67, of 201 Forestdale Drive died Jan. 2, 2000 at High Point Regional Hospital. Funeral arrangements are pending at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.
Meta Hughes
High Point - Mrs. Meta Lomax Hughes, 77, a former resident of Riverdale Drive in Jamestown, died Jan. 1, 2000, in Britthaven of Davidson.
She was born Jan. 18, 1922 in Richmond County, a daughter of Arthur G. and Daisy Baucom Lomax. She had been a resident of Jamestown most of her adult life and was a former employee of Kroger. She was of the Baptist Faith. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Kermit Lomax; and a son, Darrell Hughes.
Surviving are one son, Larry Morris Hughes of 1400 Bailey Circle; three brothers, James Lomax of Winston-Salem, Donald Lomax of Charlotte and Jerry Lomax of Laurinburg; and one sister, Mrs. Margaret Miller of Winston-Salem.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Sechrest Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Roger Porter. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The body will remain at Sechrest Funeral Home, 1301, E. Lexington Ave., where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight. At other times, they will be at the home of a niece, Mrs. Linda Anderson, 300 Janice Drive, High Point.

Lexington - Eddie Wade Mize, 67, died Jan. 1, 2000, at his home.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church where he was a member.

Rosetta Sellers
High Point - Mrs. Rosetta Myers Sellers, 73, a resident of 2113 Little Ave., died Jan. 1, 2000, following hospitalization of only a few hours at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born in Pageland, S.C., a daughter of Adam D. and Alma Rushing Myers. She had resided in High Point since 1945, where she and her late husband operated Seller’s Grocery. She retired from the grocery store operation after 40 years of continuous service.
She was an active member of Pearson Memorial AME Church where she was a member of the Steward and Stewardess Boards, and the Senior Missionary Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Alphonso Sellers on Jan. 7, 1988, and her grandson, Lawrence Alpettrus Sellers on Oct. 23, 1990.
Survivors include three sons, Randolph Sellers, Lawrence Sellers and his wife, Mary, all of High Point, and Arthur Sellers and wife, Brenda, of Midway; a daughter, Mrs. Leshia Sellers-Green and her husband, Kelvin, of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren, Christopher Hooper of Winston-Salem, Mrs Cherida Burkhalter of Virginia, and Lealand Sellers of High Point; two great-grandchildren, ChoNayse and Caellin; two brothers, Roosevelt Myers of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Robert Myers and his wife, Ailee, of High Point; six sisters, Mrs. Bonnie Clark, Mrs. Betty Jean Hancock and Mrs. Henrietta Covington, all of Pageland, S.C., and Ms. Alice Myers, Mrs. Geneva Edgeworth and Mrs. Eva Mae Rodgers, all of Brooklyn, N.Y. There are nieces, nephews, cousins and other in-laws and friends.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pearson Memorial AME Church by the Rev. J.R. Gwyn and the Rev. James Swain Jr. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park. Family visitation will be at the church between 1 and 2 p.m. Tuesday, and other times at the residence. Haizlip Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Patricia Sheffield
Thomasville - Mrs. Patricia Ann Gallimore Sheffield, 52, of 4021 Fuller Mill Road, died Jan. 1, 2000.
She was born Feb. 2, 1947, in Davidson County, the daughter of Charles Colon Gallimore and Edna Waisner Gallimore. She was a life-long resident of this area. She was employed with Thomasville Furniture Industries Plant A. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church where she was very active in her church and taught Sunday School for grades one through three.
Surviving is a husband, James Sheffield; a daughter, Mrs. Mark (Tammy) Darnell of Thomasville; her father, Colon Gallimore of Thomasville; two sisters, Mrs. Tommy (Joyce) Ingram of Thomasville and Mrs. Dale (Hilda) Atwood of Thomasville; a brother, Jimmy Ray Gallimore of Thomasville; two grandchildren, Mandi Caroline Darnell and Kalyn Spring Darnell.
Funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Southside Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronald Blakely officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will be at J.C. Allie Wray
Brown Summitt - Allie Albert Wray, 77, of 5605 Summit Ave., Brown Summit, died at Cone Extended Care on Jan. 2, 2000.
A native of Guilford County, he was the son of Henry Pleasant Wray and Sallie Highfill Wray. He was a charter member of Camp Herman Baptist Church. He was a member and past master of Guilford Masonic Lodge 656. He was a Scottish Ritc Mason, a member of Guilford Chapter 141 Order of the Eastern Star and Oasis Temple of the Shrine, White Shrine. He was also a past president of the North Carolina Dental Lab Association and a former owner and operator of Art Craft & Laboratory. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during World War II. He was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Williamson; and by his brothers, David K. Wray and Bratcher “Bratch” Wray.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Ross Wray, of the home; a daughter, Jane W. VanHoy; a son, Eddie Wray; five sisters, Nezzie McCauley, Sallie Lou Wray, Emily VonCannon, Joy Jarvis and Peggy McClellan; two brothers, Julius “Ham” Wray and Sydney “Sid” Wray; and four grandchildren, Lisa Wray, Milly McNeil, Annie VanHoy and Shelby VanHoy.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Service Chapel in Greensboro with the Rev. Roy Carter, the Rev. Vic Dowd and the Rev. Richard Nunn officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park.

Jessie Evans
Trinity - Mrs. Jessie Cunningham Evans, 89, of GrayBrier Nursing and Retirement Center, formerly of 5419 Tobacco Road, died Jan. 1, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital. She had been a patient for 10 days and in declining health for eight years.
She was born in Randolph County, a daughter of Vonnie Cornelius and Safronia Cunningham, who preceded her in death. She attended Randleman public schools and was a member of First Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband of 69 years, Robert Baxter Evans of Graybrier Nursing and Retirement Center; four sons, O’Neal (Carolyn) Evans of Danville, Va., Ashley Evans of the home, Ronald (Teresa) Evans of High Point and Harold (Kathleen “Penny”) Evans of Jamestown; four daughters, Mrs. Treva (Dr. Erby) Oglesby of Asheville, Ms. Eva Evans and Mrs. Margaret Naomi (Walter) Wilson, all of Kernersville, and Ms. Ethel Evans of Winston-Salem; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Ms. Ella Mae Cunningham of Washington, D.C.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church by the Rev. James Harris Jr. and the Rev. William T. Hill. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at Haizlip Funeral Chapel and other times at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Evans, 1712 Chatfield Drive, Jamestown. The family will assemble at the funeral home 1:15 p.m. Thursday for procession to the church.
Frank Hassell
Jamestown - Frank Russell Hassell Sr., 67, of 201 Forestdale Drive died Jan. 2, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Sept. 10, 1932, in Guilford County, a son of Charles Calvin and Estella King Hassell. He was a graduate of High Point High School and did his undergraduate work at Lenoir-Rhyne College and played on the basketball team. He later did his graduate work at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He was a coach, teacher and administrator in the public schools in North Carolina and South Carolina. He retired as principal of Allendale-Fairfax High School in Allendale, S.C. After retirement, he served as headmaster at Patrick Henry Academy in Estill, S.C. On July 11, 1953, he married the former JoAnne Wardell, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Tammy Pawloski and her husband, Don, of Westlake Village, Calif.; two sons, Frank Russell Hassell Jr. of Greensboro and Michael Keith Hassell and his wife, Debbie of Walhalla, S.C.; three grandchildren, Tonya Hassell, Sean Hassell and Jack Pawloski; and a brother, Charles Calvin Hassell Jr. of Salem, Ala.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, by Dr. C.M. Worthy and the Rev. Kirk T. LeJeune. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Archdale - Mrs. Christine Camden Helsby, 84, of 5760 Old Mendenhall Road died Jan. 3, 2000, at her residence.

Willie Lewis
SunBridge - Willie Henry Lewis, 91, of SunBridge of the Triad, formerly of 1004 Oak St., Thomasville, died Dec. 30, 1999, at the nursing facility, where he had resided for four years.
He was born in Pinehurst, a son of Angus Lee and Annie Chislom Lewis, both of whom preceded him in death. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a deliveryman at Yates Fuel Oil Co. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post 284. He was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, where he was a member of the male chorus, Willing Workers, and the trustee board.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Mrs. Laura Darr Lewis of SunBridge of the Triad; two sisters, Mrs. Sallie Hall of Riverside, Calif., and Mrs. Alline Hunter of Stone Mountain, Ga.; a host of nieces, among them, Ms. Annie Ruth Darr and Mrs. Bessie Darr Smith, both of Thomasville, Mrs. Elnora Stewart of Detroit, Mich., and Ms. Dynna Brown of Stone Mountain, Ga.; and a great-nephew and caretaker, Alexander Smith of Thomasville. There are other relatives, in-laws and friends.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Emmanuel Baptist Church by the Rev. Samuel McLendon. Burial will be in Carolina Biblical Gardens. Lexington - Mrs. Dorothy Davis MacCarroll, 85, of Hawksbridge, Carneys Point, N.J., died Jan. 2, 2000, in Lexington Memorial Hospital.

Lesley McDowell
Thomasville - Mrs. Lesley Hazel Greene McDowell, 76, of 5810 Denton Road died Jan. 3, 2000, at her residence.
She was born Feb. 6, 1923, in Montgomery County, a daughter of Remus and Margaret Tucker Greene. She was a resident of Davidson County for the last 26 years. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. On Oct. 21, 1940, she married Paul McDowell, who preceded her in death March 3, 1995. She also was preceded in death by a son, Tony McDowell.
Surviving are a son, Jerry McDowell and wife, Kathy, of Denton Road; a sister, Mrs. Iola Morton of High Point; a brother, Curtis Greene of Archdale; four grandchildren, Mrs. Dough (Betsy) Anderson, Jay McDowell, Ms. Candy Everhart, and Miss Amy McDowell; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel by the Rev. Grover Beck. Burial will be in White Oak Baptist Church Cemetery in Montgomery County. Visitation will be at the funeral home 7-9 tonight and other times at the residence.

Lexington - Thomas Franklin Melton, 58, died Jan. 3, 2000.

Winfred Moser
Archdale - Winfred Gaynell Moser, 85, of 102 Linda Drive died Jan. 3, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital after several years of declining health.
He was born Sept. 5, 1914, in High Point, a son of Gurnie and Alma Hill Moser. He was a resident of Archdale and High Point vicinity most of his life. He retired after 30 years of service with Adams Millis Corp. and was a member of Archdale United Methodist Church. On Dec. 21, 1940, he married Frances Tadlock, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mike (Patricia) Wilburn of Burlington and Mrs. Robert (Susie) Knotts of 5132 Country Lane, Archdale; two sisters, Mrs. Violet Bouldin of Trinity and Mrs. Marie Harmon of High Point; four grandchildren, Michael Helms, Andy Helms, Dawn Pratt and Paige Young; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Floral Garden Park Cemetery by the Rev. Harold Shives. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale.

Delores Myers
Thomasville - Mrs. Delores Elaine Morris Myers, 69, of 507 Longview Drive, died Jan. 2, 2000.
She was born April 21, 1930, in Guilford County, a daughter of Mamie Hutchens Morris. She was a resident of this area the greater part of her life. She retired as an accountant and was a member of First Baptist Church and the Truth Seekers Sunday School Class.
Surviving are her husband of 48 years, Raymond Myers of the residence; two daughters, Mrs. Donna Olson and her husband, Colonel Fred Olson of Alexander, Va., and Mrs. Jaye Dellagatto and her husband, Joe, of Nashville; a son, Tim Myers and his wife, Cecelia, of Charlotte; two sisters, Mrs. Betty Smith of Houston, Texas, and Mrs. Joyce Thorpe of Greensboro; a brother, Harold Morris of High Point; and a granddaughter, Emily Olson.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church by the Rev. David Best and the Rev. Van Brinkley. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 tonight at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home.

Archdale - Audra Deanna Payne, infant daughter of Johnny and Cassie Burns Payne, died Jan. 3, 2000.

Leta Perry
Trinity - Mrs. Leta May Tucker Perry, 87, of Graybrier Nursing and Retirement Center went home to be with the Lord Jan. 2, 2000.
She was born Aug. 10, 1912, in the Seagrove area, a daughter of Arlie J. and Minnie Hodge Tucker. She was a retired hosiery worker after 35 years with Triangle Hosiery and later with Adams-Millis. She worked several years after her retirement as a private attendant sitting with patients in the hospital and ended her work in the home as a care-giver for Mr. Leslie Crawford. She was a charter member of Trindale Baptist Church and a present member of English Road Baptist Church.
Surviving are one son, the Rev. David E. Perry Sr. and his wife, Wanda, of Thomasville; four grandchildren, Renee Perry Boles, David E. Perry II and his wife, Shannon, Keith Haynes and his wife, Kathy, and Chris Haynes and his wife, Lisa; and four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father on July 21, 1965, and her mother on Nov. 25, 1977. She also was preceded in death by four brothers, Nolan Tucker, Ray Tucker, Woodrow Tucker, and Ross Tucker, and three sisters, Edna Marley, Lala Modlin, Dorothy Crisco.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cloverdale Church of the Living God by the Rev. Bill Barnes and the Rev. David E. Perry Sr. Burial will be in Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Visitation will be 7-8 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, and other times at the Rev. David E. Perry Sr.’s residence, 147 Cedarland Drive, Thomasville.
Pallbearers will be Keith Haynes, Chris Haynes, Hobert Milan, Roger Milan, Randy Rich and David Hudspeth.
She was a loving, caring and giving mother and grandmother and will be missed by all of her loved ones who remain along with her many friends.
