Rosetta Sellers
High Point - Mrs. Rosetta Myers Sellers, 73, a resident of 2113 Little Ave., died Jan. 1, 2000, following hospitalization of only a few hours at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born in Pageland, S.C., a daughter of Adam D. and Alma Rushing Myers. She had resided in High Point since 1945, where she and her late husband operated Sellers Grocery. She retired from the grocery store operation after 40 years of continuous service.
She was an active member of Pearson Memorial AME Church where she was a member of the Steward and Stewardess Boards, and the Senior Missionary Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Alphonso Sellers on Jan. 7, 1988, and her grandson, Lawrence Alpettrus Sellers on Oct. 23, 1990.
Survivors include three sons, Randolph Sellers, Lawrence Sellers and his wife, Mary, all of High Point, and Arthur Sellers and wife, Brenda, of Midway; a daughter, Mrs. Leshia Sellers-Green and her husband, Kelvin, of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren, Christopher Hooper of Winston-Salem, Mrs Cherida Burkhalter of Virginia, and Lealand Sellers of High Point; two great-grandchildren, ChoNayse and Caellin; two brothers, Roosevelt Myers of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Robert Myers and his wife, Ailee, of High Point; six sisters, Mrs. Bonnie Clark, Mrs. Betty Jean Hancock and Mrs. Henrietta Covington, all of Pageland, S.C., and Ms. Alice Myers, Mrs. Geneva Edgeworth and Mrs. Eva Mae Rodgers, all of Brooklyn, N.Y. There are nieces, nephews, cousins and other in-laws and friends.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Pearson Memorial AME Church by the Rev. J.R. Gwyn and the Rev. James Swain Jr. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. today at the church and other times at the residence. Haizlip Funeral Home are in charge of arrangements.
John Dewey Smith
High Point - John Dewey Smith, 84, died at 5:40 p.m. Jan. 2, 2000, at his residence after three years of declining health.
He was born May 31, 1915, in Davidson County, a son of John A. and Ada Lou Davis Smith. He was a resident of High Point most of his life. He was a former employee of Duke Power and retired from Snyder Paper Co. after 25 years of service. He was a member of Green Street Baptist Church for 71 years, the Jesse Watson Sunday School Class, and a former Royal Ambassador worker, usher and lifetime deacon. He served twice on the pastor search committee. A mason, he was a member of the Acacia Lodge 674 A.F.&A.M., Junior Order United American Mechanics, and a former member of the Oakview Lions Club. On April 10, 1937, he married Willie Tise, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Howard White of Lakeland, Fla.; a special brother-in-law, D.O. Tise and wife, Edith, of Greensboro; a special niece and nephew, Patsy and Jimmy Lewallen of 1616 York Ave.; and a sister, Mrs. Sadie Whaley of Birmingham, Ala.
Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Green Street Baptist Church by the Rev. C.W. Moss and the Rev. Gene A. Phillips. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The body will be at Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Honorary Pallbearers will be deacons and ushers of Green Street Baptist Church and are requested to be at the church at 1:10 p.m. Pallbearers will be Tom Inman, Curt Scarborough, Joe Rowe, Thurston Bowman, Frank Ward and Herb Edwards.

High Point - Louise Cooper Terry, 90, died peacefully Jan. 1, 2000, at High Point Presbyterian Home.
She moved to High Point from Chatham, Va., and lived at the Presbyterian Home for the last four years. She was preceded in death by a son, Frank Terry of High Point.
Surviving are a daughter, Elizabeth Fitzgerald and her husband, Dan, of Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Virginia Terry of High Point; six grandchildren, Anne Curry of Richmond, Va., Edith Tyler and Mark Tyler, both of San Francisco, Dan Fitzgerald Jr. of Orange, Calif., Eugenia Fitzgerald of Champaign, Ill., and Douglas Fitzgerald of Santa Barbara, Calif.; and three great-grandchildren, Caroline and Emily Curry and Nicholas Fitzgerald.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Chatham Presbyterian Church, Chatham, Va. Graveside service and burial will be in Highland Burial Park, Danville, Va.

Browns Summit - Allie Albert Wray, 77, of 5605 Summit Ave. died Jan. 2, 2000, at Cone Extended Care, Greensboro.
He was a native of Guilford County and a son of Henry Pleasant and Sallie Highfill Wray. He was a charter member of Camp Herman Baptist Church. He was a member and past master of Guilford Masonic Lodge 656. He was a Scottish Rite Mason, member of Guilford Chapter 141 Order of the Eastern Star and Oasis Temple of the Shrine, White Shrine. He also was past president of the North Carolina Dental Lab Association. He was former owner and operator of Art Craft & Laboratory and a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II. He was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Williamson and two brothers, David K. Wray and Bratcher “Bratch” Wray.
Surviving are his wife, Mildred Ross Wray of the residence; a daughter, Jane W. VanHoy; a son, Eddie Wray; five sisters, Nezzie McCauley, Sallie Lou Wray, Emily VonCannon, Joy Jarvis, and Peggy McClellan; two brothers, Julius “Ham” Wray and Sydney “Sid” Wray; and four grandchildren, Lisa Wray, Milly McNeil, Annie VanHoy, and Shelby VanHoy.
Funeral will be 2 today at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Service Chapel by the Rev. Roy Carter, the Rev. Vic Dowd and the Rev. Richard Nunn. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the home of Peggy McClellan, 5214 Skylark Drive.

Ollie Calloway
High Point - Mrs. Ollie Effird Calloway, 78, of The Evergreen Inc. and formerly of 2414 Eastover Place died Jan. 4, 2000, at Evergreens Inc.
She was born in Iredell County, Sept. 15, 1921, a daughter of Steven and Emily Foster Effird. She was a resident of High Point most of her life and was a former employee of Wesleyan Arms. She was a member of Conrad Memorial Baptist Church. On May 3, 1947, she married Robert Lee Calloway, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are two daughters, Ms. Sandy Bowles of High Point and Ms. Terri Wheeler of Asheboro; two sons, David Calloway of High Point and Michael Calloway of Wake Forest; a sister, Mrs. Dovie Suggs of High Point; a brother, John Effird of High Point; and five grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Archdale - Mrs. Christine Camden Helsby, 84, of 5760 Old Mendenhall Road died Jan. 3, 2000, at her residence.
She was born Dec. 1, 1915, in Lynchburg, Va., a daughter of John Howard and Sallie Elam Camden, who preceded her in death. On Dec. 23, 1939, she married Williard Meredith Helsby, who preceded her in death in April 1996. She was a missionary teacher and a member of Christ Wesleyan Church, Greensboro.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mark (Sheryl) Harvey of Archdale, and Mrs. Charles (Sandra) Rogers of Springville, N.Y.; two sons, Gery Helsby of Billings, Mont., and Lee Gordan Helsby of Indianapolis, Ind.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

High Point - Mrs. Gladys Barber Pruitt, 93, of SunBridge of the Triad, formerly of Trenton Street died Jan 4, 2000, after several years of declining health.
She was born Sept. 22, 1906, in Anderson County. She lived in High Point most of her life and retired from Harriss Covington Hosiery Mill. She was of the Protestant faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira T. Pruitt and her daughter, Peggy Furgurson.
Surviving are a son-in-law, W.G. Furgurson of High Point; a sister, Mrs. Winnona Carroll of High Point; two granddaughters, Gray Furgurson of Asheboro and Katherine Paquette of Raleigh; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Harold C. Davis Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1 p.m. Thursday until the hour of service.

Thomasville - Mrs. Edith Wells Small, 75, of 310-A Spring St., formerly of Mt. Airy, died Jan. 4, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born May 31, 1924, in Surry County, a daughter of Major Lee and Fannie Fleming Wells. She was a retired employee with Kiddie-Tot Hosiery in High Point. She was a member of Freewill Baptist Church of Thomasville. She was married to Jerry C. Hiatt, who preceded her in death and she later married Robert Lee Small Jr., who preceded her in death. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Hiatt Tate and a brother, Thomas Lee Wells.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Ann Westmoreland Tuttle and her husband, Calvin, of Mt. Airy and Kathy Casad and her husband, Scott, of Denton; a son and daughter-in-law, Billy G. Hiatt and his wife, Monica, of Mannheim, Germany; a grandson, Scott Casad Jr. of Denton; and three other grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

High Point - Mrs. Alline Wilson Crotts, 85, of Wesleyan Arms Nursing Home died Jan. 4, 2000.
She was born June 27, 1914, in Danville, Va., a daughter of J.D. and Artie Goodrum Wilson. She was a homemaker and of the Wesleyan faith. She married Wade O. Crotts, who preceded her in death in 1977.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Helen W. Bryant of Thomasville; and several nieces and nephews.
