Eugene Dew
High Point - Eugene Allen Dew, 59, died Jan. 8, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital following an illness.
He was born in Horry County, S.C., a son of the late Herbert and Viola Cannon Dew. He was preceded in death by a son, Eugene Allen Dew Jr.
Surviving are a daughter, Nancy Brown Roberts of Conway, S.C.; a sister, Madeline Dew Oxendine of Sumter, S.C.; two grandchildren, Yvonne Brown and Merissa Lee of Conway, S.C.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Dew Cemetery in Conway, S.C. and will be directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Robert Dykes
Trinity - Robert William Dykes, 62, of 4031 Sherwood Forest Drive died Jan. 9, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born May 2, 1937 in Guilford County, a son of Austin Bell and Mary Williams Dykes. He was an employee of Snider Printing Co., retiring in 1982. He was a longtime member of the Piedmont Association of the Deaf. He was also a member of the Green Street Baptist Church and the Silent Sunday School Class. On Dec. 30, 1961, he was married to the former Helen Patricia Dunbar, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are a daughter, Debbie D. Dean and her husband, Charlie, of Level Cross; two sons, David Williams Dykes and wife, Mishelle, of High Point and Jeffrey Lee Dykes and his wife, Melissa, of Thomasville; two sisters, Marion Dykes Smith and Ann Dykes Hilton, both of Thomasville; and two grandsons, Trevor Logan Dean and Hunter Blake Dean.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday from the chapel of Green Street Baptist Church by Rev. Jeff Brewer and Rev. Jerry Potter. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today at Sechrest Funeral Service in Archdale.

Robert Lee
High Point - Mr. Robert Asbury Lee Jr., 67, resident of 400 N. Main Street died Saturday morning at his residence after a sudden illness.
He was born Nov. 2, 1932, in Guilford County, a son of Robert Asbury and Blanche Ingram Lee Sr. He had been a resident of High Point most of his life and most recently since moving from Columbia, S.C. in 1991. He was a former employee of Colonial Motor Lines and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served in the U.S. Air Force. Years ago he attended North Main Street Baptist Church. He was a member of the Springfield Friends Meeting and the High Point Lions Club. He was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Chapman.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Darrell (Karen) Rhoades of Wasilla, Alaska; a son, Robert Asbury Lee III of 12 Smith Avenue, Thomasville; a sister, Mrs. Don (Betty) Ingram of 7011 Bluewood Court in High Point; a brother, Joseph M. Lee of Montgomery, Ala.; and a grandson, Hunter Rhoades.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale by the Rev. Terry G. Venable. Interment will follow in the Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the home of the sister.
Memorials may be directed to Springfield Friends Meeting, 555 E. Springfield Road, High Point, N.C. 27263.

Nonise McCuiston
Archdale - Mr. Nonise Justice McCuiston, Sr., 91, died Jan. 8, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital after an extended illness.
He was born in Forsyth County on Aug. 29, 1908, a son of the late Coots and Alma Peebles McCuiston. He was self-employed with Fuller Brush Co. and a member of Green Street Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, N.J. McCuiston Jr., and his wife, Susi, of Jamestown, Tenn.; two daughters, Annie Laurie “Ann” Cody and her husband, Larry, of High Point and Faye Gulledge and her husband, Fred, of Archdale; a brother, Lindy McCuiston of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Eudora Idol of Walkertown and Elnora O’Brian of Greensboro; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale, with the Reverend Roger Carmichael officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Kidney Foundation of N.C., 5950 Fairview Road, Charlotte, N.C.

Keith McKenzie
Lexington - Keith Willis McKenzie, 19, of Lexington died Jan. 7, 2000.
Davidson Funeral Home will be assisting the family with services, which will be held at a later date.

Jack Rice Jr.
Trinity - Jack Rice Jr., 81, died Jan. 8, 2000, at Hamlet Hospital in Hamlet, N.C.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Haizlip Funeral Home.

Frank Rush
Glenola - Frank Rush, 84, of 3264 Belo Rush Drive died Jan. 7, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital, where he had been a patient for four days. He had been in declining health for six months.
He was born in Randolph County on Aug. 18, 1915, a son of Samuel and Minnie Belo Rush. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and World War II. He was also a member of the Bethel Glenola United Methodist Church, where he was a former steward and a member of the United Methodist Men.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Alice Rush, of the home; three sons, Donald Green of Randleman, Odell Rush and Gary Rush, both of Glenola; and seven daughters, Mrs. Geneva (Donald) Davis and Mrs. Doreen (Winford) Miles of Trinity, Mrs. Frankie Maxine (John) McCormick of High Point, Mrs. Angela (Eric) Tucker of Greensboro, Mrs. Darlene (Myles) Moore of Hillsborough, Ms. Nancy Rush and Ms. Gina Rush of the home; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and special friends – among them, Kenneth, Roger and Curtis Green, who were more as sons.
Funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Bethel Glenola United Methodist Church by Rev. Charles Tyson. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday 7-8 p.m. at Haizlip Funeral Chapel and other times at the residence. Haizlip Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Fredrick Scott Jr.
High Point - Fredrick Scott Jr., 57, of 842 English Road in High Point died Jan. 8, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
A private service will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Fairmont Cemetery in Fairmont, N.C.

Eva Smith
Thomasville - Eva Ann Smith, 86, of Britthaven of Davidson and formerly of Bridge Street in Lexington, died Jan. 8, 2000.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel.
Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and at other times at the homes of friends and family.

Dorothy Tedder
Lexington - Dorothy “Dot“ Church Tedder, 71, of Lexington died Jan. 8, 2000.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. today.

Jennie Bivens
High Point - Mrs. Jennie Lee Welborn Bivens, 87, died Jan. 10, 2000, at Westwood Health and Rehabilitation Center, Archdale.
She was born July 20, 1912, in Archdale, a daughter of Jacob Lee and Martha Jane Davis Welborn. She was a resident of this area all her life. She attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and was a secretary with International Home Furnishing Center for many years. She was a member of First Baptist Church, a teacher in the Sunday school, a former deacon, and a member of the Radiant Club. On Dec. 28, 1935, she married Homer Gwynn Bivens, who preceded her in death July 28, 1979.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Rick (Betsy) Hines of Archdale, and Mrs. Alfred T. (Martha Jane) Sink of Stantonsburg, S.C.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church by Dr. Bill Slater and the Rev. Bruce Hartgrove. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The body will be at Sechrest Funeral Home until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church, 405 N. Main St., High Point, N.C. 27260.

Adam Blanton Jr.
Lexington - Adam W. Blanton Jr., infant son of Adam Blanton Sr. and Letitia Shaw Blanton, died Jan. 9, 2000, at his residence.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Psalm 91 Church. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home.

Robert Bosken
Thomasville - Robert William Bosken, 78, of 1200 Dover Drive died Jan. 10, 2000, at his residence.
On Nov. 2, 1921, he was born in Cincinnati, a son of William and Anna Kallmeyer Bosken. He was a resident of Cincinnati before moving to Thomasville 22 years ago. He was a graduate of Xavier University in Cincinnati. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a former employee of General Electric Co. in Cincinnati. On Dec. 27, 1947, he married Miss Betty Stonefield, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are a daughter, Ms. Lois Ann Bosken of Virginia Beach, Va.; a son, Dr. Donald Bosken of Thomasville; a sister, Miss Dorothy Bosken of Cincinnati; three brothers, Howard Bosken, Paul Bosken and Earle Bosken, all of Cincinnati; and four grandsons, Eric Bosken, Christopher Bosken, John Bosken and Robert Bosken.
A private memorial service will be held in Virginia Beach.
Memorials may be directed to the Tom A. Finch YMCA, 1010 Mendenhall St., Thomasville, N.C. 27360.

Annie Briggs
High Point - Mrs. Annie Elizabeth McGee Briggs, 75, of 824-A Old Winston Road died Jan. 9, 2000, at her home.
She was born Sept. 6, 1924, in Forsyth County, the daughter of Charlie and Annie Marshall McGee. She was employed with Chic-Fil-A Inc. and was of the Baptist faith. She was a loving mother and a devoted grandmother. On Aug. 28, 1947, she married Harold Ray Briggs Sr. who survives of the home.
Also surviving are two sons, Harold R. Briggs Jr. and his wife, Anita, of High Point and Tim Briggs of High Point; two sisters, Mrs. Pauline Bowman of High Point and Mrs. Doris Mabe of Winston-Salem; a brother, Hal McGee of Germantown; and two grandsons, Kevin Briggs and Stephen Briggs.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Sechrest Chapel on E. Lexington Avenue by the Rev. Jimmy Dillon. Burial will be in Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will at the home of her son, Harold R Briggs Jr., 2210 Hickswood Road.

Lola Clarke
Grapevine, Texas - Texas – Mrs. Lola Taylor Clarke, 88, of 1459 Hampton Road, formerly of 2727 Kivett Drive, Greensboro, N.C., died Jan. 9, 2000, in Baylor Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 22, 1911, in Surry County, a daughter of Walter Ambrose and Candice Cobbler Taylor, who preceded her in death. On Nov. 22, 1944, she married Haywood Dallas Clark, who also preceded her in death. She was a supervisor with W. Koury Co. and a member of Rocky Knoll Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, Taylor Clarke of Grapevine; two sisters, Mrs. Odell (Pearl) Phillips and Mrs. Walter (Ruby) Turner, both of Petersburg, Va.; two granddaughters, Mrs. Heather Clarke Brown of Keller and Melissa Brooke Clarke of Dallas.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery, High Point, N.C. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, N.C.

Ella Floyd
Lexington - Mrs. Ella Lee Blalock Floyd, 95, of 11043 E. Old U.S. 64, Silver Valley Community, died Jan. 10, 2000, at Forsyth Memorial Hospital.
She was born Aug. 12, 1904, in Stanly County, a daughter of John W. and Etta Lee Blalock. On Aug. 6, 1920, she married the Rev. O.D. Floyd, who preceded her in death Dec. 14, 1981. She was of the Holiness faith and attended Silver Valley Baptist Church, where she was a member of Ladies Auxiliary at the church. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Glenna M. Smith and Etta Morgan of Albermarle; and three brothers, Clinton Blalock, George Blalock and Jack Blalock, all of Stanly County.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Hoyt (Inez) Westmoreland, Mrs. Aliceteen Halton and her husband, Charles, both of Thomasville, Mrs. Bernice Brown and her husband, Harold, of Jonesboro, Ga., Mrs. Rebecca Newman and her husband, James, of Greensboro; two sons, John D. Floyd Sr. and his wife, Glenna, of Thomasville, and Joe D. Floyd Sr. and his wife, Bonita, of High Point; 11 grandchildren, Mrs. Martha Floyd, Mrs. Brenda Leonard, and Miss Cindy Floyd, all of Thomasville, Miss Kimberly Floyd, Rick Vaughn and Brian Newman, all of High Point, Joseph D. Floyd II, and Miss Kelly Newman of Greensboro, Bill and Kenneth Brown of the greater Atlanta area and John Floyd Jr. of Pine Brook, N.J.; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Dexter Blalock of Norwood; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home by the Rev. Gene Little. Burial will be in Clarksbury United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Memorials may be directed to Silver Valley Baptist Church, 187 Old Willomore Springs Road, Lexington, N.C. 27292; the Silver Valley Fire Department, 2370 Old N.C. 109, Lexington, N.C. 27292; or to the charity of one’s choice.

Gladys Hodgin
Trinity - Mrs. Gladys Patterson Hodgin, 83, a former resident of Plant City, Fla., died Jan. 10, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Sept. 8, 1916, in Jamestown, a daughter of William and Edith Davis Patterson, who preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and a beautician in High Point. She was a member of Oakdale United Methodist Church in Jamestown. She married Glen C. Hodgin, who preceded her in death in 1981. She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Bea Dillon and Mrs. Roma Frierson; a brother, Cliff Patterson; and a nephew, John A. Frierson Sr.
Surviving are three nieces, Mrs. Betty Allen and her husband, Charles, of Archdale, Mrs. Joan Phillips and her husband, Jimmy, of Ozark, Ala., and Mrs. Shirley Frierson of Sugar Grove; three nephews, Gordon Dillon and his wife, Carolyn, of Archdale, Bill Frierson and his wife, Ann, of Summerton, S.C., and Pat Patterson and his wife, Rita, of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; and several nieces and great nephews.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale by the Rev. Scott A. Wagoner and the Rev. Charles Frierson. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and other times at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Dillon, 311 Ralph Drive, Archdale.
Pallbearers will be Keith Dillon, Hervey Frierson, Gill Frierson, Al Phillips, John A. Frierson Jr. and Terry Danner.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

William Kinsler
High Point - William R. Kinsler, 62, of 2200 E. Green Drive died Jan. 7, 2000, at his residence.
He was born March 21, 1938, a son of Ferman and Iola Boler Kinsler, who preceded him in death. He was an employee of Custom Process and was educated at Fairview Elementary and William Penn High School. He also was preceded in death by three sisters, and a brother.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Little Kinsler; a son Andre Kinsler; a daughter, Beverly Little of Harrisburg, Penn.; two brothers, Nathaniel Kinsler (Nellie) of High Point, and Octavius Kinsler of San Diego; two sisters, Flossie Little and Mary Frances Albea, both of High Point; four grandchildren, Renaldo Little of New York, David Little of Harrisburg, Pa., Dewan Albea-Kinsler and DeVon Albea-Kinsler, both of High Point; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and other relatives and many very special friends.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church by Dr. George A. Jones Jr. Burial will be in Carolina Biblical Gardens. Visitation will be 2:30-3 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church and other times at the residence.

Darryl Mahala
Lexington - Darryl L. Mahala, 35, of 218 Prairie Lane, died Jan. 9, 2000.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Michael Maness
Asheboro - Michael L. Maness, 39, died Jan. 9, 2000.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Pine Hill Cemetery, Burlington.
Ridge Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
