Orville Jones
Micro – The Rev. Orville O. Jones, 73, of Hinnant Street died Sept. 20, 1999. He was born Sept. 24, 1925, in Johnston County, a son of Manley Parson and Octavia Thorne Jones. He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Jones of Raleigh. He pastored Free Will Baptist churches in North Carolina for 47 years. Surviving are his wife, Mozelle Norris Jones; two sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Ruth Jones of Climax and Ronny and Brenda Jones of Julian; four daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Ron Bauer of High Point, Gaye and Richard Lambert of Gibsonville, Yvonne and Mickey Holcomb of McLeansville, Becky and Lee Pollard of Conetoe; six brothers, Durwood Jones, Franklin Jones, Donald Jones, and Dewey Jones, all of Selma, Eardith Jones of Micro and Nelson Jones of Pine Level; two sisters, Joyce Davis of Clayton and LaVerne Davis of Wilson; 18 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren. Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma by the Rev. Paul Nicholson and the Rev. Gary Bailey. Burial will be in Branch Chapel Church Cemetery.
Ila McMahan
Trinity – Mrs. Ila Taylor McMahan, 82, died Sept. 22, 1999, at Community General Hospital in Thomasville. She was born April 12, 1917, in Swain County, a daughter of Will and Nancy Taylor. She was a homemaker and a member of Temple Heights Baptist Church. She was married to Clarence McMahan, who preceded her in death in 1992. Surviving are four sons, the Rev. Billy Joe McMahan and Leroy McMahan, both of Trinity, Clyde McMahan of Archdale and the Rev. Samuel McMahan of Bryson City; four daughters, Mrs. MaeBelle Hogue and her husband, Ronald, of Trinity, Mrs. Daisy Grant and her husband, William, Mrs. Wilma Mize and her husband, John, all of Thomasville, and Mrs. Glenda Knul of Randleman; a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Hogue of Andrews; 28 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Silvermine Baptist Church near Bryson City by the Rev. Robert Taylor. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale. Pallbearers for the service of Mrs. McMahan will be grandsons.
Etta Marsh
Greensboro – Mrs. Etta D. Marsh, 84, of Evergreens Nursing Center died at 3:44 p.m. Sept. 22, 1999, at the center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.
Irving Ratnour
High Point - Irving H. Ratnour, 83, of 131 Marywood Drive died Sept. 22, 1999. Memorial service will be at a later date in De Witt, N.Y. Sechrest Funeral Service, E. Lexington Avenue, is in charge of arrangements.
William Stamey Jr.
High Point - William L. Stamey Jr., 85, of the Piedmont Christian Home died at 11:25 p.m. Sept. 21, 1999. He was born Sept. 23, 1913, a son of William L. and Mamie Smith Stamey Sr. He had been a resident of High Point all his life and was a retired employee of North State Telephone Co. He was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. There are no immediate survivors. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday in Oakwood Cemetery by Dr. C. Garland Young and the Rev. Richard J. Crowder. The body will be at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.
Martha Yoemans
High Point – Mrs. Martha Meton Yoemans, 69, of Welborn Road, loving wife, mother and grandmother, went home to be with her Lord Sept. 21, 1999. She was born Sept. 21, 1930, in Port Arthur, Texas, a daughter of George and Clara Shanks Meton. She had been a resident of the Trinity area for the past seven years and before that had lived in Corpus Christi, Texas. She had been an employee of Corpus Christi National Bank for 38 years. She was a member of Colonial Baptist Church in Trinity. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Margaret Scottie Rogers. Surviving are her husband, Aaron Yoemans of the home; two sons, Kyle David Yoemans of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Aaron Lee Yoemans of Trinity; a sister, Mrs. Shirley Poldrack of Mathis, Texas; a brother, George Meton of Woodsboro, Texas; two grandsons; and two granddaughters. The body will be sent from Cumby Family Funeral Service to Seaside Funeral Home in Corpus Christi for completion of funeral arrangements.
Eddie Beck Sr.
Lexington - Eddie George Beck Sr., 73, of E. Holly Grove Road died at 2:35 p.m. Sept. 22, 1999.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home.
Lether Braswell
High Point - Mrs. Lether Brown Braswell, 92, of 2507 Lowe Ave. died Sept. 22, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Oct. 9, 1906, in High Point, a daughter of Vance and Bessie Mae Wood Brown. She was employed at High Point Paper Box Co. for 50 years. She attended Trinity Heights Wesleyan Church. On Dec. 17, 1924, she married Luther Matt “Luke” Braswell, who preceded her in death Jan. 21, 1971.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Delphine Paulsen of Garden City, S.C., and Mrs. Helen Coble of the home; one son, Terry Braswell of Asheville; three brothers, Vernon Brown of Archdale, Robert Brown and Arnold Brown, both of High Point; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Floral Garden Park Cemetery by the Rev. James Capps. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Sechrest Funeral Service, E. Lexington Avenue.

Michael Hall
High Point - Michael L. Hall passed away unexpectedly Sept. 19, 1999.
He was born in Danville, Va., a son of Leonard S. Hall of Roswell, N.M., and Mildred Pattissal Hall. He was general manager of Alan Ferguson Associates. He was a member of Metropolitan Community Church of Winston-Salem. Michael will be dearly missed by numerous friends whose lives he touched in many ways.
Surviving are two brothers, Rick and Steve Hall of Corpus Christi, Texas, and his loving companion Shelby.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, 1015 Eastchester Drive, High Point.

Greeley Hilton Sr.
Lexington - Greeley Norton Hilton Sr., 85, of Hege Drive died at 1:17 a.m. Sept. 23, 1999, at Lexington Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at First Reformed United Church of Christ. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. today in the church parlor prior to the service.
Etta Marsh
High Point - Mrs. Etta Drake Marsh, 84, formerly of 201-A Northpoint Ave. died Sept. 22, 1999, at Evergreens Nursing Center in Greensboro.
She was born June 9, 1915, in Georgia and was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church of High Point. She was married March 17, 1945, to William H. Marsh, who survives of Evergreens in Greensboro.
Also surviving are two daughters, Elizabeth A. Marsh of High Point and Linda L. Marsh of Greensboro; one son, Walter C. Marsh of Miami; and four grandchildren, Amber Marsh, Oliver Marsh, Samantha Marsh and William Marsh.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point. Graveside service and burial will be 3 p.m. Sunday in Morattico Baptist Church Cemetery in Kilmarnock, Va. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
Hattie Osborne
High Point - Mrs. Hattie Cromer Osborne, 90, of Sales Street died Sept. 23, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Jan. 15, 1909, in Stokes County, a daughter of Daniel E. and Chattie Darnell Cromer. She had been a High Point resident most of her life and was employed by Sara Lee Co. in Kernersville. She had last worked for several years at Wesleyan Arms Retirement Center. She was a member of Friendly Baptist Church. She was married to Glen Osborne, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Smith of High Point; a brother, Calvin Cromer of High Point; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
Horace Perryman
Salisbury - Horace W. Perryman, 81, formerly of High Point, died Sept. 23, 1999, at VA Medical Center following several years of declining health.
He was born Nov. 4, 1917, in Davidson County, a son of H.M. and Laura Carmichael Perryman. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and had worked as a farmer most of his life. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church.
Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Verta Martin of High Point, Mrs. Mary Baker of Johnstown, Ohio, and Mrs. Hazel Smith of Columbus, Ohio; a brother, Arvel Perryman of Abbotts Creek; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Ardis Payne and Chaplain Brit Baldwin. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the home of his brother.

Myrtle Rook
High Point - Mrs. Myrtle McLendon Rook, 94, of 1408 Welborn St. died Sept. 23, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital. She had been in declining health for two years.
She was born Nov. 26, 1904, in Montgomery County, a daughter of Clarence V. and Pannie Frazier McLendon. She had been a resident of High Point since 1926 and was formerly employed by Anvil Brand, retiring in 1969. On June 3, 1927, she married Avery Rook, who preceded her in death Aug. 29, 1958. She was a dedicated member of Westchester Baptist Church and a member of the Adult Sunday School Class.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Shirley R. Calloway and her husband, Max, of Kernersville; a son, Ray Rook and his wife, Marjorie, of Lilburn, Ga.; two grandchildren, Randy Calloway and his wife, Pat, and Mrs. Carol Lather and her husband, Danny; a great-granddaughter, Amanda Lather; and a sister, Mrs. Betty Myatt of Greensboro.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Sechrest Chapel, E. Lexington Avenue, by the Rev. Eric Peacock. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
