Theodore Terry
High Point - Theodore “Gus” Terry, 70, of 1900 Franklin Avenue died Jan. 14, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital where he had been a patient for 14 days.
He was born in Richmond County, a son of Zack and Mary Lee Wright Terry. He resided in High Point 40 years and most of those years he was employed by Myrtle Desk Co. as a sprayer. He retired from Woodmark Originals. He was a member of First Emmanuel Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; six brother, Samuel, Herbert, Archie, Melvin, David and Amos; and three sisters, Alberta, Fannie Mae and Lena.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Colleen Kiniel Terry of the residence; nine sons, Ronald T. Terry, Anthony N. Terry, Edward W. Terry, Larry Alston, Harry Alston, all of High Point, Farlamar Terry of Lexington, William Cheek and Thunnell Bowden and his wife, Crystal, all of Greensboro, and Henry Robert Terry of Winston-Salem; three daughters, Mrs. Gwendolyn T. Bennett and her husband, Raymond, Mrs. Lisa Ann T. Quick and her husband, Lorenzo, all of High Point, and Ms. Trumela Terry of Jamestown; 46 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a brother, Zack Richard Terry of Robbins; two sisters, Mrs. Magdaline Wright and Mrs. Evelyn Harris, both of High Point; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at First Emmanuel Baptist Church by the Rev. Lawrence Curtis. Burial will be in Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Jackson Springs. Visitation will be at the church 12:30 p.m. Thursday and other times at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Bennett, 1406 Waterloo Drive.
Haizlip Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

M. Cochran
Winston-Salem - Mrs. Madelyn Foster Cochran, 61, died Jan. 17, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 28, 1938, in Knoxville, Tenn., a daughter of Howard G. and Ruth Winchester Foster. She retired from IMC in Bartow, Fla., and was currently employed with Edward Ferrell LTD. in High Point. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Lakeland, Fla. She was preceded in death by her father; her husband, Claude B. Cochran; and a brother, Michael Thomas Foster.
Surviving are her mother; a brother, Stephen Foster and his wife, Kathy, of Greensboro; a sister, Joan F. Nichols and her husband, Jerry, of Winston-Salem; two stepdaughters, Betty C. Knight of Winston-Salem and Tabitha Krimminger of Concord; two stepsons, Claude B. Cochran Jr. of Matthews and Ronald Lee Cochran of Concord; a nephew, Daniel C. Nichols; two nieces, Kristi Foster, Kari Allison and her husband, Cory; and three great-nieces, Emma Corinne Allison, Rebeckah Marie Nichols and Caitilyn Raine Nichols.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel by the Rev. David Ridley of Forsyth Park Baptist Church. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Walter Evans
Thomasville - Walter C. Evans, 83, of 33 Hedrick Drive died at 11:30 p.m. Jan. 17, 2000, at Piedmont Center.
He was born May 12, 1916, in Anaheim, Calif., a son of William J. and Fannie Hersey Evans. He retired as loan officer with Detroit Bank and Trust. He was a lifetime member of Plymouth Rock Lodge #47 A.F.&A.M. in Plymouth, Mich., Autobohn Club, and Kiwanis Club of Redford, Mich. He was also a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Livonia, Mich. and All Saints Episcopal Church, Lakeland Fla. On Sept. 7, 1940, he married Patricia Bauflaugh, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are a son, Robert Paul Evans and his wife, Christine Beshears, of New London; and a sister, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Tramel of Norwalk, Calif.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Piedmont Center Unity Place by the Rev. Mark Nanney and the Rev. Ken Knohs. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be at the residence. The body will be at Family Funeral Care.

Hugh Goss
Franklinville - Hugh Thomas Goss, 80, died Jan. 17, 2000.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

R. Hughes
Knoxville, Tenn. - Mrs. Rebecca G. Hughes, 65, formerly of High Point, N.C., died Jan. 16, 2000, in Park West Hospital.
She was born Oct. 14, 1934, in Bronx, N.Y., a daughter of Albert and Regina Cohen Nahoum. She was a waitress.
Surviving are her husband of 45 years, Pete Hughes of Knoxville; two daughters, Janice Miller of Knoxville and Donna Nahoum of the Bronx; two sons, David Garcia of Charlotte, N.C., and Howard Garcia of Knoxville; three sisters, Ester DeLuca and Eva Woods, both of High Point, and Fannie Perdue of Thomasville, N.C.; three brothers, Ralph Nahoum of New York City, Benjamin Nahoum of Thomasville, and Gabriel Nahoum of High Point; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 4 p.m. Thursday at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel by the Rev. John Wheeles. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery, High Point. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence of her brother, 2328 Edgewood St., High Point.

Edith James
Marion - Edith Huskins James, 81, of Marion, died Jan. 14, 2000, at Mountain Ridge Wellness Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William W. and Mary E. Huskins; and also, her husband, Robert E. James. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Marion. She was a homemaker. Her family and her church were her life.
Surviving are her son, Robert L. James III of Black Mountain; three daughters, Doris James Campbell of Camden, S.C., Dorothy James Johnston of 907 Rockford Road, High Point and Mary E. James of Asheville; three sons, William E. James of Tampa, Dwight E. James and Frank E. James, both of Marion; a sister, Eurene Styles of Black Mountain; and nine grandchildren, among them, J. Phillip L. Johnston Jr. of New York and Dorothy James Johnston of Charleston, S.C.
The family received friends Sunday at Westmoreland Funeral Home.
The funeral was Monday at First Baptist Church of Marion by Dr. Robert R. Davis and Dr. H. Dewey Hobbs. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Lexington - Henry Alfred Jones, 79, 0f 315 Moore Drive, died Jan. 17, 2000.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Franklinville - The Rev. Herman Lynn Kivett Sr., 62, died Jan. 18, 2000.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Full Gospel Bible Church of God. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Thursday at Ridge Funeral Home.

Viola Lookabill
Lexington - Mrs. Viola Coppley Lookabill of N.C. 8 S. died Jan. 17, 2000, at the residence of her daughter after a four-month illness.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Larry Peterson. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Albert Nichols
Trinity - Albert Nichols, 64, of 2621 Old Mountain Road died Jan. 17, 2000.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Family Funeral Care Chapel. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Iris Riley
High Point - Mrs. Iris Lucille Aulbert Riley, 85, died Jan. 18, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born May 24, 1914, in Guilford County a daughter of Frank and Suddie Aulbert. She was a graduate of High Point High School Class of 1930. She worked at Byrum Cleaners and also with Anderson Drug Store until her retirement. She was a member of Oak Hill Friends meeting, where she taught Sunday school. She was a Red Cross volunteer. Most importantly she was a loving and giving sister and aunt. She was preceded in death by a sister, Violet Aulbert and two brothers, F.A. Aulbert and Clarence Aulbert.
Survivors are her brother, Harold “Chip” Aulbert and his wife, Reba; a nephew, Van Aulbert and his wife, Terry; a niece, Sue Aulbert Snipes and her husband, Danny; two great-nieces, Ansley Aulbert Wolffis and her husband, Todd and Kelsey Aulbert Dumoulin and her husband, Jay; and one great-great-nephew, Colburn Wolffis.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Joseph Neal. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Carl Rimer
Lexington - Carl Clayton Rimer, 79, of Centerclair Nursing Home, formerly of Oak Avenue, died 12:20 a.m. Jan. 18, 2000, at the nursing home after one year of declining health.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Forest Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Forest Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Jessie Roberts
Lakeland, Fla. - Mrs. Jessie L. Roberts, 80, died Jan. 17, 2000, at Tandem Health Care.
She was born June 20, 1919, in High Point, N.C. She was a buyer for Eckerd Drugs for 45 years. She was a member of North Lakeland Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are her husband, Frank Fulton Roberts; a son, Frankie F. Roberts of Pinellas Park, Fla.; a daughter, Betsy R. Hunt of Lakeland, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday, in Siler Cemetery, Siler City, N.C. Visitation will be 6-7 p.m. Friday, at First Christian Reformed Church, High Point, N.C.
Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home Northside, N. Lakeland, is in charge of arrangements.

Nonnie Sechrest
High Point - Mrs. Nonnie Adams Sechrest, 93, of SunBridge Nursing Home, 707 N. Elm St. died Jan. 17, 2000.
She was born Aug. 18, 1906, in Surry County a daughter of Samuel W. and Seabra Adams. She was one of 13 children. She was a resident of High Point for approximately 75 years. On June 6, 1947, she married Charles G. Sechrest, who preceded her in death. She was employed by Harriss & Covington Hosiery prior to her retirement. She was a member of United Calvary Methodist Church.
Surviving are a son, M.C. Adams of Jacksonville, Fla.; a grandson, John C. Adams of Raleigh; and a great-grandson, Justin.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Covenant United Methodist Church by the Rev. John Fitzgerald.

Stella Stewart
High Point - Due to inclement weather, funeral for Mrs. Stella Elizabeth Grayson Stewart has been rescheduled for 11 a.m. today at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale.
Mrs. Stella Elizabeth Grayson Stewart, 88, of 603 Abbie Ave. died Jan. 15, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.

M. Underwood
East Spencer - Margaret Kelly Underwood, 71, of 315 Correll St. died Jan. 14, 2000, in Rowan Regional Medical Center after five years of declining health.
Funeral will be noon Thursday at Shady Grove Baptist Church. Visitation will be 11-12 Thursday at the church.
Rowan Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

P. Hedgecock
Camden, N.Y. - Pauline C. Hedgecock, 87, of Blakesly Road, Camden, N.Y., died Jan. 17, 2000, in High Point, N.C.
She was born Oct. 1, 1912, in High Point, a daughter of Bruce and Mary Parrish Clodfelter. She had lived in the Camden area since 1946. She was a press operator with Williams Stationary for 37 years retiring in 1977. She also worked at Beck’s Grove for 20 years retiring in 1977. She was a member of United Church of Camden (Presbyterian) and its Presbyterian Women’s Organization. She also was a member of Camden Grange, Williamstown Senior Citizens and the Camden Friendship Corner as well as the Camden Villagers. On Dec. 29, 1932, she married William Hedgecock in Galax, Va., who preceded her in death May 1, 1980.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary (Wilson) and Matthew Bones, of Taberg; four sons, William and Pauline Hedgecock of Winston-Salem, N.C., Edward and Donna Hedgecock of Imperial Beach, Calif., Henry “Hoyt” and Gale Hedgecock of Vienna, and Grover and Patricia Hedgecock of Camden; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Veda Curry of High Point; a brother Hazel Clodfelter of High Point; a sister-in-law, Lulu Clodfelter of Greensboro; a brother-in-law, Grover Hedgecock of Winston-Salem; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at United Church of Camden (Presbyterian). Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Sanborn-McDaniels & LaRobardiere Funeral Home, 109 Main St.

Erlene Hill
Thomasville - Mrs. Erlene Gordon Hill, 67, of 2582 Upper Lake Road died Jan. 19, 2000, at Community General Hospital.
She was born Dec. 1, 1932, in Davidson County, a daughter of Coy W. and Mary Chisholm Gordon. She was a homemaker and a member of Rich Fork Baptist Church. On April 9, 1949, she was married to Norris L. Hill, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Yvonne Avant of First Circle and Mrs. Mike (Carol) Peele of High Point; a brother, Dr. Bob Gordon of Asheboro; five grandchildren, Derek Peele, Leigh Peele, Randy McDonald, Anthony Avant and Michael Avant; and two great-grandchildren, Corey McDonald and Hannah McDonald.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel by the Rev. J. Byron Barker and the Rev. Stuart White. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
Memorials may be directed to the Building Fund of Rich Fork Baptist Church, 3993 Old U.S. 29, Thomasville, N.C. 27360.

W. Palm Beach - Dr. Royal Green Jennings Jr., 78, formerly of High Point, died Jan. 19, 2000.
Funeral will be held at a later date in High Point.

Jamestown - Marie Cox Pickard, 76, died January 19, 2000, at Beacon Place, Greensboro.
