Belvedere Whitfield
High Point - Belvedere Beal Whitfield, 49, of 709 S. Scientific St. died Jan. 21, 2000 at his residence.
She was born in Chatham County and was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. She was self-employed. She loved people, life and was extremely proud of her son. She was loved by all.
Surviving are one son, Jeff Beal and his fiancee, Cindy Holt, of Gulf; a half-brother, John Wayne Jacobs of Gulf; an aunt, Mrs. Mark Combs of High Point; best friend and soul mate, Rik Lee.
A memorial service for her friends in High Point will be held at a later date at the home of Rik Lee.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Mrs. Whitfield’s honor, Smith & Buckner, 230 N, 2nd Avenue, Siler City, N.C. 27344.
Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City is in charge of arrangements.

Billy Whitley
Trinity - Billy Edward Whitley, 51, of 3730 Jill Dr. died Jan. 24, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born May 9, 1948, in Stanly County, a son of Yoder Vernon Whitley Sr. and Bessie Catherine Hathcock Whitley. He was employed with Dixon-Odom and Co. – CPA. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of First Lutheran Church. He was an Eagle Scout and was educated in the Albermarle city schools, Kings Business College and University of North Carolina at Charlotte where he received his bachelor of science in accounting.
Surviving are his wife, Tamara Kennedy Whitley of Trinity; a brother and sister-in-law, Yoder and Rita Whitley of Albermarle; brother-in-law, Walter Jordan Kennedy III; three nieces, Emily Kennedy Rogers, Amy Catherine Whitley, Laura Beth Whitley; sister-in-law, Joyce Rogers of Albermarle; brother-in-law, Claude Rogers of Albermarle; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Walter Jordan Kennedy Jr. and his wife.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church by the Rev. John W. Futterer. Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery, Albermarle. Visitation will be 5-7 tonight at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albermarle and other times at the residence of Mrs. Claude (Joyce) Rogers, 1006 Smith St., Albermarle.

Mary Willard
Jamestown - Mrs. Mary Alice Hatcher Willard, 69, of 211 Oak St. died Jan. 24, 2000, at North Carolina Baptist Hospital.
She was born in Pittsyvania, Va., a daughter of Doc O. and Myrtle Lee Howerton Hatcher. She lived most of her life in Jamestown and was a homemaker. On March 14, 1948, she married Romie Toddie Willard, who preceded her in death Aug. 10, 1988.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Jeanette) Pierce of 900 Pine Burr Road, and Mrs. Mary Willard of 211 Oak St.; five sons, Romie (Jay) Leon Willard of 551 Oakdale Road, Robert (Bud) Willard of 208 Oak St., Donald (Donnie) Willard of 501 Ashland Street, Archdale, Roy Eugene Willard of 222 Greentree Court, Asheboro, and Bruce Wayne Willard of 211 Oak St., Jamestown; four sisters, Mrs. Emma Jean Tomblin of Greensboro, Mrs. Lillian Neese of Archdale, Mrs. Anna Belle Brandon of Long Beach and Mrs. Maude Durham of Asheville; a brother, Robert Lee Hatcher of Danville, Va.; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Bales Memorial Wesleyan Church by the Rev. James Grant and Jimmy Young. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sechrest Funeral Home, High Point.

Golda Yates
Asheboro - Mrs. Golda Belle Lowdermilk Yates, 70, died Jan. 24, 2000.
Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at Huldah Baptist Church. Visitation will be 6 to 8 tonight.
Arrangements are by Ridge Funeral Home.

Bill Balkcum
High Point - Funeral for Bill Balkcum, 66, has been rescheduled.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 1 p.m. Thursday until the hour of service.

Etta Brown
Trinity - Funeral services for Mrs. Etta Eaton Wright Brown, 92, have been rescheduled .
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at High Point Seventh Day Adventist Church. Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Pinnacle Baptist Church Cemetery, Pinnacle. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.

Melva Cornelison
Archdale - Mrs. Melva Cole Cornelison, 87, of 423 Aldridge Road died Jan. 22, 2000.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel of Cumby Funeral Service, Archdale.

Treva Elliott
High Point - Mrs. Treva Beck Elliott, 94, a former resident of 509 Hedrick Ave., died Jan. 22, 2000.
Funeral has been rescheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point.

Nona Everhart
Lexington - Mrs. Nona Elizabeth Everhart, 88, of 1043 Turner Road died Jan. 24, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Family Funeral Home, Thomasville.

Robert Fields
Archdale - Robert Milton Fields, 71, of 209 Linda Dr. died Jan. 22, 2000.
Due to inclement weather, funeral has been rescheduled. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Bessie Hassell
High Point - Funeral for Mrs. Bessie Stroud Hassell, 92, has been rescheduled.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Services, Archdale.

Sissy Hendersn
High Point - Mrs. Paulette “Sissy” Driggers Henderson, 48, died Jan. 22, 2000.
Funeral has been rescheduled for 11 a.m. today at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home Chapel.

Weldon Idol
Kernersville - Weldon Lewis Idol, 73, of 2823 Highway 66 South, died Jan. 23, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Sept. 19, 1926, in Guilford County, a son of J. Clay and Clara Cheek Idol. He was a resident of Kernersville most of his life and was of the Baptist faith. He was a farmer and was named North Carolina’s most outstanding “Young Farmer” of the year in the 1960s and was recognized nationally as a master breeder of modern game poultry by the Poultry Association.
He was an outstanding baseball and basketball player in high school and later played professional baseball with the St. Louis Browns in 1947. On August 18, 1945, he married the former Peggy Wineharger, who survives of the residence. He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Idol Weavil.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mike (Karen) Dull and Mrs. Sandra Idol Portaro, both of Kernersville; two sons, Dick Idol and his wife, Robin, of Bigfork, Mont., and W.C. Idol and his wife, Lori, of High Point; a brother, Junius Idol of Kernersville; and five grandchildren, Alexandra “Alex,” Cody, Justin, Colt and Harrison.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Abbotts Creek Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Carol Williams-Gilbert, the Rev. Jim Noble and the Rev. Jack Rose. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30-9 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Piedmont Inc., 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, N.C. 27262.

Fred Ivey
High Point - Funeral for Fred Ivey, 69, has been rescheduled.
Funeral will be 2 P.M. Thursday at Mt. Elim Baptist Church, Red Springs.

Ellen Jones
Kernersville - Funeral services for Mrs. Ellen Swett Jones, 81, have been rescheduled.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 11:30-12:30 p.m. Thursday at Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point.

Hettie McCollum
Kernersville - Mrs. Hettie Jane Westmoreland McCollum, 78, of 8414 Norcross Road, Colfax, died Jan. 24, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center after two weeks of illness.
She was born Dec. 20, 1921, in Guilford County, a daughter of Lindsay P. and Janette Westmoreland. She was a member of Smith Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Welford McCollum, of the residence; a son, Preston McCollum and his wife, Teresa, of Colfax; four sisters, Opal Jordan of High Point, Neva Long, Annie Nuckles and Ruth Holt of Colfax; two brothers, Hubert Westmoreland of Burlington and Rubert Westmoreland of Colfax.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, at Smith Grove Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 tonight at Hayworth-Miller Cain Funeral Home.

Ila McDuffie
Kernersville - Mrs. Ila Mae Musten McDuffie, 85, died Jan. 23, 2000, at K.B. Reynolds Hospice Home, Winston-Salem.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Pierce Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Don Winters of Kernersville Moravian Church. Burial will be in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory, Kernersville. Visitation will be 10 a.m. today until the time of service at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to Shepherd’s Center of Kernersville Inc., 431 Bodenhamer St., Kernersville, N.C. 27284.

G. Reid Marsh
High Point - G. Reid Marsh, 73, of 532 Gatewood Ave., died Jan. 22, 2000.
Funeral has been rescheduled for 2 p.m. today at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.

Kathleen Allred
Greensboro - Mrs. Kathleen Rimer Allred of the Eastern Star Masonic Home, 94, died Jan 26, 2000, at her residence.
She was born July 19, 1905, in Cabarrus County, a daughter of Berry and Grace Rimer Thornlow, who preceded her in death. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and a homemaker.
Surviving are a son Grady T. Allred of High Point; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday in Oakwood Cemetery, Concord, by the Rev. Merrill Perkins.
Wilkinson Funeral Home, Concord, is in charge of arrangements.

Linda Black
Lexington - Mrs. Linda Black, 47, of Duke Drive died Jan. 25, 2000, at her residence.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home.

Glenna Carpenter
Sophia - Mrs. Glenna S. Carpenter, 57, of 3220 Meadow Acres Lane died Jan. 20, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at J.C. Green and Sons Chapel in Thomasville. Visitation is 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Verda Collins
Greensboro - Mrs. Verda Nunn Collins, 99, formerly of 2205 Fairfax Road, died Jan. 24, 2000, at Beverly Health Care-Starmount.
She was a charter member of Shining Light Baptist Church where she lovingly served the Lord and was a former member of Midway Baptist Church.
Surviving are her children, Delphia Leonard, Voys Idol and Vernell Kennedy, all of Greensboro, Mary Brown of Thomasville, and Loman Collins of Randleman; 27 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Shining Light Baptist Church by the Rev. Jimmy Dillon, the Rev. Loyd Porter and the Rev. Scott Daniel. Burial will be in Midway Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-9 tonight at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory Street Chapel.
Memorials may be directed to Shining Light Baptist Church, 4530 W. Wendover Ave., Greensboro, N.C. 27409.

George Davis
High Point - George Henry Davis, 87, died Jan. 26, 2000.
