Alice Farlow
Trinity - Mrs. Alice Farlow Farlow, 101, died Jan. 25, 2000, at GrayBrier Nursing and Retirement Center.
She was born March 2, 1898, in Randolph County, a daughter of Thomas E. and Mary Walker Farlow. Early in her career, she was a school teacher and a cafeteria manger for 25 years at Trinity School. She was a member of Marlboro Friends Meeting, the Robert Bulla Sunday School Class and the United Society of Friends Women. She was a charter member of Mt. Vernon Extension Homemakers Club and a 50-year member of Trinity Grange #794. On Aug. 26, 1920, she married Harvey W. Farlow, who preceded her in death Sept. 5, 1965.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Dorris F. Davis of Trinity; one son, Harold W. Farlow of Belleair, Fla.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Marlboro Friends Meeting by Dr. Bob Medford. Burial will be in the meeting house cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Sechrest Funeral Service, Archdale.

Harold Gentry
High Point - Harold Gray Gentry, 61, of 1711 Cedrow Drive died Jan. 25, 2000, at his residence.
He was a native of Winston-Salem, and had resided in High Point, for more than 40 years. He was owner-operator of Ebony Bail Bonding Co. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lucille and Wallace Gentry Sr.; two brothers, J.W. Gentry and Thomas Gentry; two sisters, Ella Mae Gentry Boone and Druscilla Gentry Williams.
Surviving are his wife, Luretha Gentry of the residence; two sons, Bruce (Janice) Torrence of High Point and Kent (Ruth) King of Mount Airy; three grandchildren; five brothers, Wallace (Priscilla) Gentry Jr., Everett Troy Gentry, Harry Roy Gentry, Michael Gentry, all of Winston-Salem, and Leon (Cathy) Gentry of Washington, D.C.; five sisters, Margaret Louise (Alex) Minor, Viola Gentry, Linda Gentry, Joann Cole and Patricia (Robert) Sidbury; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at Russell Funeral Home Chapel by Apostle S.D. Johnson. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Winston-Salem. Visitation will be 12:30-1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

A. Montgomery
High Point - Mrs. Annie Turner Montgomery, 96, of Piedmont Christian Home Inc., formerly of Elm Towers and Hobson Street, died Jan. 24, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born in Marlboro, S.C., a daughter of Andrew and Meteldia Quick Edwards, who preceded her in death. She had resided in High Point more than 50 years and was a member of A New Beginning Teaching Ministry. She was a home-maker. She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Burnice Turner and Ed Montgomery; two sons, James McIver and David Edwards; four sisters, Mary Yates, Nellie Moore, Bertha Hines and an infant sister; and two brothers, King David Edwards and Aaron Edwards.
Surviving are an adopted son, Landy Edwards of High Point; one sister, Mrs. Marie Edwards Gibson of Manor Nursing Home, Rockingham; several nieces and nephews, among them, Mrs. Gladys G. Robinson of High Point; a cousin, Mrs. Ziffie Covington of Southern Pines; a devoted friend, who seemed more as a granddaughter and caretaker, Mrs. Genie Dula; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at A New Beginning Ministry, English Road, by the Rev. Leroy McIntyre. Burial will be in Carolina Biblical Gardens. Visitation will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the church and other times at the residence of Mrs. Gladys Robinson, 1614 West Ave.

Mrs. Mildred A. Brown Willingham
Greenfield, Maine - Mrs. Mildred A. Brown Willingham, 71, of 328 Davis St. died Jan. 26, 2000, at Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility.
On Sept. 5, 1928, she was born in Montgomery, W.VA., a daughter of Frederick and Mildred L. Powers Brown. She was educated in St. Alban’s and Charlestown, W.Va., public schools. She was a graduate of Ringling College of Art, Sarasota, Fla., class of 1950.
Surviving are three sons, Frederick Brown Willingham and Mark Evans Willingham, both of High Point, N.C., Christopher G.L. Willingham of Deerfield; one daughter, Ms. Kelli A. Willingham of Fairfield, Conn.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
Funeral services and burial will be private at a later time.
Memorials may be directed to Greenfield Area Animal Shelter, 155 French King Highway, Greenfield, Maine 01301.

Sharlene Wilson
High Point - Ms. Sharlene Ann Wilson, 20, of 827-A Leonard Ave. died Jan. 22, 2000.
She was born Sept. 24, 1979, in Winston-Salem, a daughter of James Edward Kemp Jr. and Mary Delores Wilson. She was a graduate of High Point Central High School class of 1997. She was a member of Upper Room Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, baby-sitting, reading her Bible, singing, spending time with her sisters and smiling. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Sally Mae Rogers Wilson; her great-grandmother, Sarah Rogers; her grandfather, Johnnie Wilson and an uncle, Aaron Wilson.
Surviving are her father of Fayetteville and her mother of High Point; two brothers, Jeremy Kemp, and Emmanuel Kemp, both of Fayetteville; three sisters, Miss Chiquita Wilson, Miss Tasha Wilson and Latoya Wilson, all of High Point; four grandparents Charles Smith, Mrs. Lola Kemp, James Kemp Sr., Ms. Rudy Alford; six aunts, Miss Mary L. Rogers, Miss Sharlene Wilson, Mrs. Katerine Perkins (Johnny), all of High Point, Ms. Inez Michael of Fayetteville, Ms. Irene Kemp of Dunn and Ms. Merle Kemp of Hope Mill; seven uncles, John Wilson, Bobby Wilson, William Wilson, James Wilson, and Michael Wilson, all of High Point, Lamont Kemp of Fayetteville, and Michael Davis of Santa Barbara, Calif.; a special nephew, Derrick Smith Jr.; special friends, Kendall Cook, Shaye McNeil, Murry and Franklyn White and Kesha Howze; her stepfather, Benjamin Pequese; and a host of other friends and relatives.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Upper Room Baptist Church by the Rev. Terrance Evans. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-7:30 p.m. Friday at Hargett-Gillmore Funeral Service and other times at 1408 East Ave.

Ronald Winslow
JAMESTOWN – Ronald Leverette Winslow, 66, of 206 Shadowlawn Drive died Jan. 25, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Feb. 16, 1933, in Norfolk, Va., a son of Lebrus Leverette and Mary Ethridge Winslow. He attended William and Mary College and Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. He retired March 1998, from Norton Co. after 35 years of service. He was a Navy Reserve veteran, a member of Ducks Unlimited and a member of High Point country clubs on Country Club Drive and at Willow Creek. On July 11, 1954, he married Anne Twiford, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are one daughter, Ms. Cynthia Anne Winslow of Kernersville; two sons, Ronald L. Winslow Jr. and his wife, Cynthia, of Winston-Salem, and Taylor Brandt Winslow of Browns Summit; and two grandsons, Joshua and Alexander.
It was his wish to be buried at sea. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Sechrest Funeral Home, High Point.

M. Slaydon Sr.
High Point - Michael Calvin Slaydon Sr. of 510 Prospect St. died Jan. 26, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Jan. 11, 1943, in Guilford County, a son of George David Slaydon Sr. and Hazel Perry Slaydon. A resident of High Point all his life, he was employed with Carolina Container for 30 years and was of the Baptist faith. On March 28, 1982, he married the former Sandy Soles, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are his father of Trinity; four sons, Michael Calvin Slaydon Jr. and his wife, Saprina, of East Bend, John Mark Slaydon, Christopher George Slaydon and his wife, Sonya, all of High Point, and Billy Wayne Hardie of the residence; one brother, George David Slaydon Jr. of Trinity; two sisters, Mrs. Patricia Maultsby of High Point and Ms. Robin Burger of Trinity; and four grandchildren.
Funeral will be 7 p.m. Friday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale. Visitation will be at the funeral home after the service and other times at the residence. Burial will be at a later date in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

Dora Branson
High Point - Mrs. Dora Magdalene Frank Branson, 73, of 1225 Redding Drive died Jan. 26, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born May 11, 1926, in Davidson County, a daughter of John Basil and Emma Owens Frank. She retired from Drexel Heritage after 10 years of service.
Surviving are her husband, John William Branson Jr.; two sons, John Wayne Branson and his wife, Carline, of Thomasville and Donald Lee Branson of High Point; a daughter, Mrs. Sherry Branson Wells and her husband, John, of Morganton; a sister, Mary Lee Frank of Denton; two brothers, Calvin Frank of Denton and Hubert Frank of Lexington; three step-grandchildren, Peter Underwood, Timothy Royal and Mark McGhee Jr., all of Thomasville; and one step-great-grandchild, Nicholas Underwood of Thomasville.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Danny McMahan. Burial will be in Floyd Baptist Church Cemetery, Denton. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Lonie Braxton
High Point - Mrs. Lonie Varner Braxton, 86, formerly of Cannon St., Thomasville, died Jan. 26, 2000, at SunBridge Nursing Center.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
Family Funeral Care, Thomasville is in charge of arrangements.

Treva Elliott
High Point - Mrs. Treva Beck Elliott, 94, a former resident of 509 Hedrick Avenue, died Jan. 22, 2000.
Funeral has been rescheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point.

Theodore Leonard
Lexington - Theodore P. Leonard, 80, of Greensboro Street Ext. died at 2:02 p.m. Jan. 26, 2000, at Lexington Memorial Hospital after an illness of one week.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Reformed United Church of Christ. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home.

Donald Lewis
Jamestown - Donald Lewis, 50, died Jan. 26, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Jamestown, where he served as a deacon, member of the Brotherhood, and was elected “Man of the Year” for 1999. He was a volunteer with the homeless shelter in High Point and was a sales representative with Barca Lounger Co. for 29 years. He was preceded in death by his father, James W. Lewis, and a brother, Mark Lewis.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Lewis, of the residence; two daughters, Michelle Lewis and Anita Lewis, both of the residence; a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Kim Lewis of Greensboro; his mother, Eva Lewis of Jamestown; and a brother, Douglas Lewis of Columbia, S.C.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Jamestown by Dr. Jerry Harper. Burial will be private for the family in Guilford Memorial Park. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Hanes-Lineberry, Sedgefield Chapel.
Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church of Jamestown, 306 Guilford Road, Jamestown, N.C. 27282.

Sophia Reese
High Point - Mrs. Sophia Wright Reese, 96, of Wesleyan Arms Nursing Center, formerly of 1415 Wiltshire St., died Jan. 26, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Dec. 9, 1903, in Vance County, a daughter of Huber and Tannie Callis Wright. She was formerly a secretary at the Veterans Administration. She was a member of Eastchester Church of Christ and a former member of Conrad Memorial Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, Elmer Claude “Red” Willard Jr. and his wife, Martha, of Jamestown; a daughter, Mildred Willard Buckman of Washington; two grandchildren, James Franklin Buckman IV and his wife, Kaye, of Washington and Elizabeth Buckman Nichols and her husband, D. Al Nichols, of Newbern; five great-grandchildren, Cameron and Sarah Buckman of Washington, and Elizabeth Nichols, Mariah Nichols and Sarah Nichols, all of Newbern; one step-grandchild, Howard Bidgeman and his wife, Carolyn, of Hildebrand; and two step-great-grandchildren, Cristy Schnitzlein of Huntersville and Jason Bridgeman of Hildebrand.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Lance Riddick. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
Memorials may be directed to the charity of one’s choice.

Donald Sowers
Kernersville - Donald Ray Sowers, 64, made his transition to the heavenly realms Jan. 19, 2000.
He had been disabled from a trucking accident since 1972. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Ruby Sowers, both residents of High Point.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Jean Grimes Sowers; a son, Shane Sowers of Kernersville; a daughter, Theresa “Terri” Eddy of Walnut Cove; four grandchildren; his sister, JoAnn Sowers Mason of Union, S.C.; and two brothers Rudy Sowers of Maryland and Steve Sowers of High Point.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Kernersville Library, in the basement meeting room.

Bearnie Spell
Sophia - Bearnie Bethel Spell, 86, of 2618 Banner Whitehead Road died Jan. 26, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home by Elder Ralph Piercy. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Ella Beeson
High Point - Mrs. Ella Parsons Carlton Beeson, 86, of 1515 Woodside Drive, died Jan. 29, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Sept. 30, 1913, in Wilkes County to Thomas and Claudia South Parsons. She was a member of White Oak Baptist Church in North Wilkesboro. She was first married to Conrad Woodrow Carlton, who preceded her in death. She later married Raymond Beeson, who also preceded her in death.
Surviving are a daughter, Ruth C. Stiegel of the home; a son, Bryce Carlton of High Point; and a grandson, Barry Alvin Stiegel of Alaska.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Lonie Braxton
Thomasville - Mrs. Lonie Varner Braxton, 86, a former resident of Cannon Street, died Jan. 26, 2000, at Sunbridge Health Care of the Triad after a lengthy illness.
She was born Aug. 7, 1913, in the Ophir community of Montgomery County, a daughter of John Frank and Idella Hamilton Varner. She lived in Thomasville most of her life, but also resided in Baltimore, Newport News, Va., and Albemarle. During World War II she worked for Curtis Bay Fabricators Ship Yard in Baltimore and then for Amazon Mills Co. in Thomasville from 1947 until her retirement in 1975. On March 29, 1947, she was married to Bruce Braxton, who preceded her in death on March 3, 1992.
The youngest of 12 children, she is survived by a son and a daughter-in-law, Steve and Sammie Braxton of 521 W. Parkway Ave., High Point; a sister, Mrs. Frances Brewer of Baltimore; four grandchildren, Ben Braxton of Thomasville, Adam Braxton of Chapel Hill, Clay Braxton of Raleigh and Currin Braxton of High Point; and eight nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Bethel United Methodist Church by the Rev. Ben Sheppard. Burial will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park. The body will remain at Family Funeral Care in Thomasville until placed in the church prior to the service. The family will receive friends at Family Funeral Care from 7 to 8:30 tonight and at other times at the home of her son.
Memorials are requested to be directed to Bethel United Methodist Church, 508 Fisher Ferry St., Thomasville, N.C. 27360, or to the American Red Cross, 815 Phillips Ave., High Point, N.C. 27262.

Velma Brincefield
High Point - Mrs. Velma Cornelia Robertson Brincefield, 85, a resident of 1608 Forrest St., died Jan. 29, 2000, at her residence.
She was born in Guilford County on Oct. 7, 1914, a daughter to Joseph G. and Nettie Robbins Robertson. She was employed as a nurse’s aide prior to her retirement. On April 17, 1937, she was married to Charles Winfred Brincefield who died on July 8, 1990.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
No funeral is planned. She will be buried in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Sechrest Funeral Service on E. Lexington Avenue is in charge of arrangements.

Martha Clodfelter
High Point - Mrs. Martha Mae Clodfelter, 90, of Dogwood Circle died Jan. 30, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.
