Ruby Howell
Sophia - Mrs. Ruby Richardson Howell, 81, of 4472 Mt. Gilead Church Rd. died Feb. 6, 2000, in the High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born in Crumpler on June 13, 1918, a daughter to the late Willie Richardson and Maude Elizabeth Caldwell Richardson. He was married to the late Ancel R. Howell, who preceded her in death in 1985. She was a homemaker and beloved wife and mother.
She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Timmy Howell.
Surviving are three daughters, Patricia Sample and Elizabeth Baer of Sophia and Linda Kaye Stearn of Belcamp, Md.; two sons, James Howell of Hernando, Fla. and Dennis Howell of Clover, S.C.; nine grandchildren, Barbara Hinkofer of Hernando, Fla., Shane and Heather Sample of Sophia, Carrie Barnes of Charlotte, Brian Baer of High Point, Kelly Lunsford of Archdale, Michael Baer of Sophia and Christopher and Matthew Stearn of Belcamp, Md.; and two great-grandsons, Justin and Zachary Hinkofer of Hernando, Fla.
Services will be held at a later date at McComas Funeral Home in Bel Air, Md. by Rev. Tony Rice. Interment will be in Bel Air Memorial Gardens in Bel Air, Md. Cumby Family Funeral Service of High Point is in charge of local arrangements.
Sarah Ann Hughes
Lexington - Sarah Ann Hodges, 3 weeks, died Feb. 4, 2000.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Lexington City Cemetery by Rev. David Shaffer. Visitation will be 12:30-1:30 p.m. today at Davidson Funeral Home.
Patricia Malone
Archdale - Mrs. Patricia Loretta Owens Malone, 61, of 107 Renola Dr., Archdale died Feb. 5, 2000, at her home.
She was born May 27, 1938, in Guilford County, the daughter of Elijah Mathis and Grace Beeson Owens. She was a homemaker and was a member of Gospel Baptist Church.
On May 31, 1957, she married Thomas Malone and he survives of the home.
Also surviving are one son, Keith Malone and wife, Sherry, of Trinity; parents, E.M. (Buddy) and Grace Owens of Archdale; one sister, Ms. Ruth Townsend of Jamestown; one brother, Leon B. Owens of Archdale; and two grandchildren, Shane and Brantley Malone.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sechrest Chapel in Archdale by Rev. Frank Gibble. Interment will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. today at Sechrest Funeral Home.

Mary Richardson
Archdale - Mary Ellington Richardson, 87, of 714-B Verta Street died Feb. 5, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale.
William Spell
Thomasville - William Roy Spell, 76, a resident of 306 Old Oak Rd. died Feb. 6, 2000, at the North Carolina Special Care Center in Wilson.
He was born in Sampson County, a son of L.M. and Lonnie Mitchell Spell. He was a former employee with Thomasville Furniture Industries.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Kincaid Spell, of the home; one son, James William Spell of Thomasville; one step-daughter, Mrs. Raymond (Linda) Bolz of Thomasville; one step-son, Tommy Lowman of Thomasville; and three grandchildren.
The body was cremated.

Lexington - Harry W. Younts, 81, died Feb. 6, 2000.

Lillian Bullington
Greensboro - Mrs. Lillian Ashby Carroll Bullington, 77, of 1311 Guest St. died Feb. 1, 2000, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.
She was born Nov. 3, 1922, in Stokes County, a daughter of Jesse James and Jettie Mabe Bullington. She was a resident of Greensboro for 24 years and was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. She was an avid gardener and a homemaker. On Jan. 17, 1976, she married James “Jim” Bullington, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are four sons, Charles Carroll of Kernersville, David Carroll of Jamestown, Malcolm Carroll of Apalachicola, Fla., and Timothy Carroll of Fayetteville; a stepson, Roger Bullington of Zepher Hills, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Diana Lovette of Charlotte; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Gurney “Buck” Ashby of Sophia.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, by the Rev. Bob Metters. Entombment will be in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Edna Callahan
Lexington - Mrs. Edna Marie Callahan, 62, died Feb. 1, 2000.
She is survived by her husband, Jesse Mock Callahan Jr.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Grace Baptist Church. Visitation will be 6:30-9 tonight at Piedmont Funeral Home.
W. Causby
Rutherford College - Walker L. “Bud” Causby, 80, died Feb. 2, 2000, at Autumn Care Nursing Center, Drexel, after a period of declining health.
He was born May 5, 1919, in Burke County, a son of Laban A. and Eldie Warlick Causby, who preceded him in death. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II. He was a member of Mt. Harmony United Methodist Church. He retired from General Electric of Hickory. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Bailey Causby.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda Kay Causby of High Point; two sons, Randy L. Causby of Rutherford College and Stanley Walker “Stan” Causby and his wife, Kathy, of High Point; two sisters, Maggie Abee or Rutherford College and Lula Harris of Marganton; a granddaughter, Lauren Causby of Valdese; and a grandson, Justin Causby.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at Mt. Harmony United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post #234 of Valdese. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Heritage Funeral Service of Valdese.

Carl Crotts
Archdale - Carl Roosevelt Crotts, 93, of Tru-Care Assisted Living, formerly of 4828 Kennedy Road, Trinity, died at 6:25 p.m. Feb. 1, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born June 24, 1906, in Randolph County, a son of William Thomas and Roanna Loflin Crotts. He was a lifelong resident of Trinity, and was a former employee of Burlington Industries and a retiree of Myrtle Desk Inc. He was a member of Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church, the Men’s Bible Class, and had served as Sunday school superintendent, lay leader and caretaker of the church cemetery. On Oct. 15, 1938, he married the former Pauline Sumner, who preceded him in death, Nov. 20, 1996.
Surviving are a daughter, Ms. Beverly Ann Crotts of High Point; a son, Carl Benson Crotts and his wife, Elizabeth, of Rockingham; three brothers, J. Wayne Crotts, Roy W. Crotts and E. Reece Crotts, all of Trinity; two sisters, Mrs. Reid (Pearl) Cole of Thomasville and Mrs. Robert (Lillie) Ennis of Trinity; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church by the Rev. David L. Miner, the Rev. Charles “Chuck” Ireson and the Rev. Robert W. Wiseman. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence of Beverly Crotts, 1720 Ternberry Road, High Point.

L. Crumpler
Kernersville - Lawrence Justice Crumpler, 78, of 4419 Glenn-High Road, Winston-Salem, died Feb. 2, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born March 6, 1921, in Forsyth County, a son of Irvin G. and Jessie Preston Crumpler. He was a retiree of Bales & Truitt Inc. and was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Navy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise Slaughter Crumpler.
Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Joan and Jerry Tilley of Winston-Salem and Donna and Larry Willard of Advance; a son and his wife, Larry and Jayne Crumpler of Albuquerque, N.M.; a sister, Magdelene Hoyle of High Point; a brother, Guthrie Crumpler of Georgia.; two grandchildren, Robin Krites and Steven Mathews; four great-grandchildren, John Krites, Evan Krites, Sara Krites and Elizabeth Mathews.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Hayworth-Miller Cain Chapel by the Rev. Bill McKenzie. Burial will be in Deep River Friends Meeting Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence, 4419 Glenn-High Road, Winston-Salem.

Verna Friar
Melbourne, Fla. - Mrs. Verna L. Friar, 81, formerly of Astor-Dowdy Towers, High Point, N.C., died Jan. 31, at Catalina Gardens.
Service will be at a later date at St. Stephen’s Lutheran, ELCA Church, Hickory, N.C.

Gladyce Moore
Asheboro - Mrs. Gladyce Quick Moore, 76, of 394 Pinewood Road died Feb. 2, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.
She was a former resident of High Point, moving to Asheboro in 1972. She served as a legal stenographer with the Navy WAVES during World War II. She was secretary for U.S. House Rep. John L. McMillian and was a past president of the Pinewood Ladies Golf Association.
Surviving are her husband, Ben Moore; three sons, Jeffrey Moore of Columbia, S.C., Kevin Moore of Chester, N.J., and Todd Moore of Asheboro; five grandchildren; and a brother, Johnny Quick of Dillon, S.C.
Burial will be at a later date in Dillon. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Friday at Pugh Funeral Home.
