Earl Poole
Durham - Earl Smith Poole, 88, died Feb. 2, 2000, at Hillcrest Convalescent Center.
He was born April 4, 1911, a son of Thomas Lewis and Sallie Mangum Poole. He served a 44-year career with Leggett-Myers Tobacco Co., retiring as manager of the Primary Processing Dept. in 1974. He was a lifelong member of Asbury United Methodist Church and was involved in numerous church activities through the years.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Ruth Durham Poole; two sons, Robert Earl Poole of Fayetteville and James Lewis Poole of High Point; a daughter, Earlene Poole Jackson of Durham; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at Asbury United Methodist Church in Durham by Dr. W. Kenneth Hall. Private burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the church parlor.

Robert Ripple
Welcome - Robert Lee Ripple, 76, of Hinkle Lane, died at 3:30 a.m. Feb. 2, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday in Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be at the residence. Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
Edna Shelley
High Point - Mrs. Edna Gillis Shelley, 78, of 312 E. Farriss Ave. died Jan. 31, 2000, at Wesleyan Arms Nursing Center.
She was born in Raleigh, a daughter of Eddie and Lilly Gillis. She was a graduate of Broughton High School and Louisburg College. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; Donald L. Roberts; and a stepdaughter, Linda Sue Shelley Ostroski.
In 1963, she married W.J. Shelley and moved to High Point from Jacksonville, Fla. She worked as a legal secretary to Jim Clontz and Arthur Utly before going into business with her husband. They owned Shelley Enterprises, where she served as office manager. After coming to High Point, she became an active member of Green Street Baptist Church and served in various positions there until she entered the nursing home. Her greatest legacy was a deep spiritual faith. She was a loving wife and mother and a true friend to many.
Surviving are her husband, Jay Shelley of the residence; six sons, Donald L. Roberts Jr. and his wife, Jan, of Fairburn, Ga., Stephen B. Shelley and his wife, Martha, of High Point, Kenneth Shelley and his wife, Lisa, of High Point, Carlyle L. Peters and his wife, Virginia, of Archdale, Larry Peters and his wife, Charlene, of Greensboro, and Donald L. Peters of Iceland; a beloved friend since childhood, Mrs. Edith Yopp of Raleigh; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the entire staff of Wesleyan Arms Nursing Center for the care given and many acts of kindness shown during her stay at the nursing home.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Sechrest Funeral Home Chapel, High Point, by the Rev. C.W. Moss and the Rev. Melvin B. Anderson. Burial will be private in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Floyd Trivette
Thomasville - Floyd Trivette, 77, of 126 S. Fisher Ferry St. died Feb. 2, 2000, at Britthaven of Kernersville.
He was born Feb. 1, 1923, in Watauga County, a son of Don and Gustie Norwood Trivette. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II when he received the Purple Heart. He was a retired employee of John H. Brinkley Construction Co. He was of the Baptist faith. On March 25, 1944, he was married to Grace Huffman, who survives of the residence. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Faye Pressley and Marie Trivette; and a brother, J.D. Trivette.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Bobby (Betty) Williams of Thomasville; four sons, Billy Trivette and his wife, Sandra, of Lexington, Buster Trivette and his wife, Shirley, Bobby Trivette and Benny Trivette, all of Thomasville; two sisters, Mrs. Susie Agers of Boone and Mrs. Gordon (Lois) Hampton of New York; three brothers, Henry Trivette, Will Trivette and Cloyd Trivette, all of Beach Creek; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Friday at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel by the Rev. Howard Moore. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites by the Randolph County Honor Guard. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
J. Villegas
Greensboro, Ga. - Jaime Villegas, 89, of 3320 U.S. 15 South, died Feb. 2, 2000, at Minnie G. Boswell Memorial Hospital.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Greensboro. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at McCommons Funeral Home.
Florence Welch
High Point - Mrs. Florence Grace Millikan Welch, 98, departed this world to eternal life Feb. 1, 2000, at Britthaven in Greensboro.
She was born Dec. 8, 1901, in Randolph County, a daughter of John Manly and Hanora Davis Millikan, who preceded her in death. In March 1920, she married William Corbett Welch, former owner of Welch Fairgrounds in High Point. She was known to many market representatives, as she provided rooms to rent for each of the furniture markets held in High Point. She was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church. She will be remembered by many as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and devoted friend.
She also was preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, William Corbett Welch; a daughter, Frances Carleen Mercer; three brothers, John Millikan, Oscar Millikan and Robert Millikan; and a sister, Mary Azalea Friddle.
Surviving are a daughter, Virginia W. Fryar and son-in-law, James A Fryar Jr., of Gibsonville; a son-in-law, George A. Mercer of Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Ronald M. Boyers and wife, Susan, of Nevada, Pamela S. Mercer of Oklahoma, Suzanne Mercer of Texas, Janice F. Buckner and husband, William, and James A. Fryar III and wife Cathy, of Gibsonville, five great-grandchildren, Greg and Kevin Buckner and Amber Fryar, all of Gibsonville, Jeff Boyers and wife Tammy, of Denton, Jennifer Gullett and her husband, Brian, of Salisbury; and many other relatives and friends.

Lonnie Brantley
High Point - Lonnie Elton Brantley, 50, of Piedmont Christian Home died Jan. 31, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Aug. 16, 1949, in Nash County, a son of Lonnie Sylvester and Ruby Lee Page Brantley. He was a resident of High Point for the past 29 years and was a member of Christian Missionary Church. On Feb. 18, 1983, he was married to the former Debora Diane Shields, who survives at the Piedmont Christian Home.
Also surviving are a daughter, Marsha Brantley of High Point; a stepdaughter, Gypsy Shields of Sophia; a stepgrandson, Tommy Tate; two brothers, Jimmy Brantley of High Point and James Brantley of Fremont; and a sister, Sandra J. Creech of Lucama.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, by the Rev. Clarence Page and the Rev. Esther Chaney. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence of Jimmy Page, 1215 S. Elm St.
Margaret Davis
High Point - Mrs. Margaret Theresa Wilhelm Davis, of 708-B Westchester Drive died Feb. 1, 2000.
She was born in Peru, Ind., and had been a resident of High Point for 82 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Turner Davis.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Carolyn) Elliott of the residence; two granddaughters, Jennifer Jackson and Jacqueline Elliott; and two great-grandchildren, Kelly Davis Jackson and Rachel Catherine Jackson.
A private graveside service will be held.

Billy Elswick
High Point - Billy Dewey Elswick, 55, 0f 108-E. Thomas St., formerly of E. Green Drive Ext., died Jan. 31, 2000, at his residence.
He was born April 17, 1944, in Bluefield, W.Va., a son of Jason and Ruby Elswick. He was a resident of High Point most of his life and was employed by Haworth Wood Seating Inc. He also operated Bill’s Lawn Service. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He married the former Bonnie Woodruff, who preceded him in death March 4,1994.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda Kaye Elswick of Randleman; a son, Howard Jason Elswick of York, S.C.; a stepson, Robert Charles Woodruff of Sophia; a stepdaughter, Carrie Ekdahl of Michigan; a sister, Mattie Pruitt of Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; a brother, Eddie Toler of High Point; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, by the Rev. R.C. Avery. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Neal Frady
Lexington - Neal McRay Frady, 59, of 411 Price Road died at 9:14 p.m. Jan. 30, 2000, at Lexington Memorial Hospital.
Funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be at the home of the mother on S. Ford Street.
Margaret Grubb
High Point - Mrs. Margaret R. Grubb, 67, of 1603 Culler Ave. died Jan. 31, 2000, at her residence.
She was born Nov. 8, 1932, a daughter of Claude A. and Ruby Caudel Tucker. She was a retiree of Snyder Cushions. She was a lifelong resident of this area and was of the Baptist faith. She was married to Eugene Lee Grubb, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are her father, Claude A. Tucker of Ramseur; a daughter, Janette Grubb of Archdale; two sons, Randy Grubb of Pleasant Garden and Scott Grubb of High Point; a brother, Roy A. Tucker of Asheboro; a halfsister Sally Tucker of Ramseur; three half brothers, Pete Tucker, Eddie Tucker and Richard Tucker, all of Ramseur; an aunt and uncle, Sam and Bodie Linthicum of Sophia; aunt, Dorothy Neugent; and a special friend, Mabel Slate of High Point; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

S. Harrington
High Point - Sylvester Harrington, 84, of 716 W. Willis Ave. died Jan. 30, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Oct. 15, 1915, in Scotland County, a son of James and Anna McClinton Harrington. He was a retiree from Hayworth Roll & Panel Co., completing more than 30 years of service. He was a member of Temple Memorial Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee and on the usher board. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Pecolia McCrimmon; and four brothers, Willie Harrington, Roy Harrington, James Harrington and Emanuel Harrington.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Mrs. Margaret Love Harrington of the residence; two sons, James E. Harrington and his wife, Irene, of Greensboro and Perry C. Harrington of High Point; two daughters, Mrs. Gwendolyn Goldston and her husband, Robert, of Asheboro and Ms. Brenda H. Davis of Thomasville; two sisters, Mattie Sloan of Atlantic City, N.J., and Shelly Farmer of Laurinburg; six grandchildren, Keith Harrington, Sylvia Harrington, Perry Harrington Jr., Brandon Davis, Barron Davis and Reginald Harrington; and a host of relatives and friends.

Emily Jordan
Trinity - Mrs. Emily Agnes Ingram Jordan, 85, formerly of 518 Denny St. died at 12:15 p.m. Jan. 31, 2000, at GrayBrier Nursing and Retirement Center.
She was born April 11, 1914, in High Point, a daughter of H.S. and Maggie Floyd Ingram Sr. She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of High Point and a member of First Baptist Church. She also was a member of the Conrad Bible Class and the Women’s Missionary Society. On Oct. 12, 1937, she was married to Russell Edward Jordan Sr., who preceded her in death in 1981.
Surviving are a son, Russell Edward Jordan Jr. and his wife, Jane, of Annadale, Va.; a grandson, Tommy Jordan; a brother, Herb S. Ingram Jr. and his wife, Margaret, of 3115 Winchase Court; several nieces and nephews; and a special niece, Mrs. Margaret Willard and her husband, Joe, of High Point
