Lillie Gourley
Lexington - Lillie Atkins Gourley, 84, of 3563 Old Highway 64 west, died Feb. 12, 2000, at Lexington Memorial Hospital.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Center Hill Baptist Church. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home.
Joe Hill
Thomasville - Joe Don Hill of 318 Thompson St., died Feb. 13, 2000, in Forsyth Memorial Hospital. Funeral arrangements will be announced by J.C. Green & Son’s Funeral Home.
John Hill
Archdale - John Cleveland Hill Sr. of Old Marlboro Road, died Feb. 12, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born July 18, 1932, in Randolph County, a son of John F. and Ellen Church Hill. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Bragg and served in the Korean War. He was founder and owner of Paramount Paper Products Corp. that started in 1960 as J&G Paper Corp. He also was founder and partner along with three brothers of Kraft Converters Inc. which started in 1964. Both of these expanded to other locations in Arkansas, Texas and Ohio as well as two locations in North Carolina with a paper mill located in Maxton of which John Hill constructed with his own plans. Both companies merged into Leggett-Platt Inc. in 1972 and 1973. John retired from the paper business in 1974, at age 42, after a very successful career in the packaging industry. A member of Hughes Grove Baptist Church in Thomasville, he was past president of the Sunday school and prayer room leader. He also was a former member of the board of directors of the Ralph Sexton Ministries.
Surviving are his wife, Pearl H. Hill of the home; four daughters, Mrs. Bonnie Louise Sherwsbury and husband, David, of Fayetteville, Mrs. Ann White and husband, Charles, Ms. Margaret Howell and Ms. Christal Mansell, all of High Point; four sons, the Rev. John C. Hill Jr. and his wife, Donna, of Thomasville, Joey Hill of High Point, Edward Hill and wife, Joyce, Laurinburg, Danny Hill and wife, Vickie, of Sophia; four step-daughters, Judy Stafford and husband, Ron, of Indiana, Mrs. Faye Hege of Thomasville, Mrs. Rae Nell Smith and husband, Carl, of Trinity, Mrs. Janice Thompson and husband, Larry, of Lexington; five brothers, Walter Hill and wife, Ruby, of Archdale, Hamp Hill and wife, Bernell, of Asheboro, Henry Hill and wife, Becky, of Arkansas, Herthey Hill of High Point, Jerry Hill and wife, Shirley, of Greensboro, two sisters, Mrs. Marlene Marshall and husband, Walter, of Laurinburg and Mrs. Elizabeth Sechrest of Greensboro; a half-sister, Mrs. Bessie Kincaid of High Point; 17 grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and one step-great grandchild.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hughes Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Buddy Fox. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will remain at Sechrest Funeral Home in Archdale until placed in the church one hour prior to the service. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Sechrest Funeral Home in Archdale. Claude Lee
Denton - Claude Beauford Lee, 83, of 1052 Surratt Rd. died Feb. 13, 2000, at Mountain Vista Health Park.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Thomasville. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 tonight at Green & Son’s Funeral Home in Thomasville
Mary Prince
High Point - Mary Nash Prince, 93, of Wesleyan Arms Nursing Center, died Feb. 12, 2000.
Burial will be Feb. 15 in Waxhaw Cemetery, Waxhaw, N.C., followed by a memorial service at Williams Memorial Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, where her husband, the late Rev. Marcus B. Prince Jr., served as pastor for 40 years. She served as president of Williams’ Presbyterian Women, where she was selected a life member and president of the Women of the Church Council of Mecklenburg Presbytery. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her son, the Rev. Marcus B. Prince III and his wife, Esther, of Lincolnton; her daughter, Laura P. Boyles and her husband, Roy, of High Point; a sister; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Louise Robbins
Thomasville - Mrs. Louise Robbins, 68, of 309 Welborn St. died Feb. 13, 2000.
She was born Sept. 21, 1931, in Guilford County the daughter of J.M. Bundy and Nelie Maness Bundy. She had been a resident of this area her entire life. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She was married to Icen Lawson Robbins who preceded her in death. She also was preceded in death by a son, Donnie Ray Robbins.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Peggy Smith and her husband, Danny, of Thomasville; two sons, Jimmy Dale Robbins of Thomasville and Bill Bundy of Acworth, Ga.; a sister, Mrs. Blanche Hepler of Randleman; three grandchildren, and two-great grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel by the Rev. Hillis Burton. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 Tuesday at the funeral home and other times at the home of the daughter, Mrs. Peggy Smith, 207 Pine St., Thomasville.

Gary Walker
High Point - Gary Mitchell Walker, 47, of 805 Fifth St. died Feb. 11, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital, of injuries received in an automobile accident.
He was born in Newport News Va., a son of Alonzo and Annie Dawkins Walker. He was a graduate of John Harris High School, Harrisburg Pa., class of 1972. He then served a two-year tour of duty in the Marine Corps. He relocated to High Point and joined the employment of Dawkins Maintenance Service where he worked as a custodian. He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy, Stanton Place. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Alonzo Walker Jr.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Annie Dawkins Walker of Harrisburg, Pa.; three brothers, Eric C. Walker of Harrisburg, David S. Walker of Washington, D.C., and Marcus A. (Tamitha) Walker of High Point; three sisters, Madeline Walker and Stephanie (James) Walker, both of Harrisburg, and Lisa (Mark) Huff of Andrews, S.C.; one aunt, Mrs. Katie Walker of High Point; two uncles, Benjamin (Rachel) Dawkins of Greensboro. There are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of God of Prophecy, Stanton Place, by Bishop Floyd Collins. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be noon Tuesday at the church and other times at the residence. Haizlip Funeral Home ins in charge of the arrangements.
Jack Wells
Denton - Amos Edward “Jack” Wells, 86, died Feb. 12, 2000.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery in Houston, Texas. Briggs Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Leon Hill
Denton - Leon Vestal Hill, 79, died Feb. 9, 2000.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Silver Valley Baptist Church. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday at Briggs Funeral Home.
Cordia Hilton
Thomasville - Mrs. Cordia Hansel Hilton, 83, of 373 Walker Road died Feb. 8, 2000, at Britthaven of Davidson Nursing Home.
She was born Sept. 22, 1916, in Thomasville, a daughter of L.W. Hansel Sr. and Bessie Bost Hansel. She was a resident of Thomasville most of her life. She was co-owner and operator of High Point and Thomasville Launderette and Cleaners. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ and a member of the Honor Roll Sunday School Class, the Ladies Guild, and choir member. She was a member of Cha-Wo-Le Club. She was married to Perry E. Hilton in 1934, who survives of the residence. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Esther Hilton and a son, Jan Hilton.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Judy Byerly of Thomasville; a sister, Mrs. Lottie Long of Thomasville; three brothers, James Hansel of Thomasville, Ralph Hansel of Seattle, Wash., and Earl Hansel of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at Zion United Church of Christ by Dr. Joe D. Coltrane. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home until the hour of service. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

Joseph Pleasants
High Point - Joseph Edward “Ed” Pleasants, 81, died Feb. 7, 2000.
He attended a commercial school and graduated from Stonier School of Banking at Rutgers University. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He retired from NCNB in 1990 as senior vice president after 52 years of service.
He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was past president of the High Point Rotary Club, a trustee of High Point University and active in numerous fund drives. His role in community affairs is as broad as his experience as a banker. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, an elder, and served on numerous committees in the church. On Jan. 17, 1952, he married Jeanne Rankin, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are a daughter, Sally Farrar; a son, Craig Pleasants; a brother, G.W. Pleasants; and five grandchildren.
