Edna Gross
High Point - Miss Edna Bertha Gross, 96, of Graybriar Nursing Home, Trinity, formerly of 1706 Johnson St., died Feb. 21, 2000, at her residence.
She was born Oct. 22, 1903, in Cochocton, N.Y., a daughter of the Rev. Leo and Harriet Louise Gross. She was a retiree of O.E. Kearns and a member of Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Frances Wilson of High Point; two brothers, Albert Gross of Archdale and Walter Gross of Badin Lake; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church by the Rev. John Petry III. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Sechrest Funeral Home, High Point, and other times at the residence of her sister, 1706 Johnson St.

Charlie Kemp
High Point - Charlie Clarence Kemp, 65, of 224 Landsdowne St. died Feb. 21, 2000, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 25, 1935, in Pulaski, Va., a son of Walter and Ollie Moore Kemp. He was a retiree of Braxton Elliott Grading. On Nov. 21, 1959, he married the former Nancy Lorraine Dalton, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are five sons, Thomas Clarence Kemp and Ronnie Lee Kemp of High Point, John Edward Kemp of Archdale, Charlie Clarence Kemp Jr. and Kemmie Lee Kemp, of Draper, Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Eads and Mrs. Pansy Wimmer of Blacksburg, Va.; a brother, Archie Kemp of Pulaski, Va.; and five grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Sechrest Chapel, Archdale, by the Rev. Kelly Stafford. Burial will be in Floral Garden park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Min Klein
Greensboro - Mrs. Min Klein, 93, a “true matriarch of Temple Emanuel and of Greensboro’s Jewish community,” died Feb. 21, 2000.
She was born in Russia and preceded in death by her husband, Albert Klein. She attended Women’s College in Greensboro. She worked for more than 40 years in writing and office work. She was the first advisor of Etta Spier BBG. She was the recipient of the Hannah G. Soloman Award of the NCJW in recognition of her extensive volunteer services and was named Greensboro senior citizen of the month in 1984. She was a recipient of the Human Services Award of the North Carolina Association of Jewish Women. She organized the Hillel Program at Women’s College.
She was a very dedicated member of Temple Emanuel, attending services regularly. She was a past president of Temple Emanuel Sisterhood and was president of the Mid-Atlantic Region of Temple Sisterhoods. She was a former editor of the Temple Emanuel Bulletin and became a Bat Mitzvah at Temple Emanuel when she was 71 years old.
She was always involved with young people. She and her husband were coordinators of the soldier’s lounge at Temple Emanuel during World War II and were among the founders of the Greensboro USO. She was responsible for introducing many future couples to one another. Every Sunday during the war, she and her husband hosted tens of Jewish young people in their house for dinner. She also did volunteer work for the Jewish chaplains at the local army base during the war.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Harry Samet of Greensboro; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Diane Klein of Head Waters, Va.; 10 grandchildren, Leslie and Carl Samet of New York, N.Y.; Marian Stein, Gerald Samet, Deborah Kintzing, and Mark Samet, all of Greensboro, Lisa and Wayne Snodgrass of Staunton, Va., Suzan and Daniel Rosen of New York; and seven great-grandchildren, Alyssa Tace and Hannah Samet, both of Greensboro, Leilah and Mirina Rosen, both of New York, and Katrina, Alexandria, and Elisabeth Janicker, all of Staunton.
Funeral will be noon Wednesday at Temple Emanuel, 713 N. Greene St. by Rabbi Fred Guttman, Rabbi Eliczer Havivi of Beth David Synagogue, Greensboro, and Rabbi Jerome Fox of Bnai Israel Congregation, High Point. At her request, a very special eulogy will be given by her beloved friend and Rabbi, Rabbi Arnold Task of Congregation Gemiluth Chassodim, Alexandria, La. Burial will be in the Hebrew Cemetery.

William Ledwell
Trinity - William Thomas “Cotton” Ledwell, 62, of 10156 Archdale Road died at 7:07 p.m. Feb. 20, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital after a sudden illness.
He was born April 26, 1937, in Randolph County, a son of James A. and Ethel Briles Ledwell. He was a lifelong resident of Trinity and a 1956 graduate of Trinity High School. He was employed with Senco Products as a sales representative. He was a member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, the Willa Carter Sunday School Class, administrative board, pastor parish and cemetery committee. He was formerly chairman of the board of trustees, past president of United Methodist Men and former co-chairman of the building committee. He also was former president of the Hillsville Ruritan Club, chairman of Hillsville Community Center, member of the Action Investment Club, former member of the Archdale-Trinity Jaycees and a charter member of the High Point Jaycees. On Oct. 4, 1958, he married Peggy Savage, who survives of the residence. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Willa Ledwell Carter and Maxine Ledwell Bryant and a brother, Marcus Odell Ledwell.
Also surviving are a son, Craig T. Ledwell and his wife, Jacquelyn, of 800 Westbrook Court, Archdale; a brother, James Darrell Ledwell of St. Matthews, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church by the Rev. David F. Cunha and the Rev. Charles B. Walker. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be at Cumby Funeral Service, Archdale, until 30 minutes prior to the service. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Rosie Miller
Thomasville - Mrs. Rosie Etta Latham Miller, 97, of Beverly Health Care, formerly of 826 Carolina Ave., died at 6:39 p.m. Feb. 20, 2000, at her residence.
She was born Jan. 10, 1903, in Montgomery County, a daughter of Alfred and Annie Burrow Latham. She was a resident of Thomasville most of her life. She was a member of Carolina Memorial Baptist Church. She was a former employee of Amazon Cotton Mill and was last employed with Celand Yarn. On Sept. 7, 1929, she married Earlie Harrison, who preceded her in death Aug. 3, 1983. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mrs. Hazel zRollins in 1981.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Andrew (Mary Earline) Cornelison of Thomasville; six grandchildren, Andrew Cornelison, Robin Cornelison, and Dwight Cornelison, all of Thomasville, Dwayne Cornelison of Raleigh, and Diane Swicegood and Steve Rollins, both of Asheboro; three great-grandchildren, Mrs. Morgan (April) Lones, Miss Sherri Tolson and Vince Cornelison; and a great-great-grandson, Dakota Lones.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel by the Rev. Stuart White and the Rev. D.W. Long. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other at other times at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Andrew (Mary Earline) Cornelison, 122 Albertson Road.
C. Perryman
Clemmons - Mrs. Catherine Perryman, 73, died peacefully of natural causes, with her daughter and her family by her side, Feb. 20, 2000.
She was born Sept. 28, 1926, a daughter of Walter and Lucille McCollum. She was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Anna Marie Perryman Looper; three sons, William L. Perryman Jr., Franklin J. Perryman and Ronald J. Perryman; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 6 tonight at Gospel Light Baptist Church by the Rev. Steve Roberson.

Thomasville - Mrs. Joann Kidd Russell, 56, of 1180 Joe zMoore Road died Feb. 21, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Nancy Sechrest
High Point - Miss Nancy Jeanne Sechrest, 73, of 531 N. Hamilton St. died Feb. 20, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born April 7, 1926, a daughter of Robert Hamilton and Florence Baxter Sechrest. She was a lifelong resident of High Point. She was educated in the local schools and graduated from Women’s College, now the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She was employed by radio stations WSJS in Winston-Salem and WHPE in High Point and later in the offices of Collier Ellis and Co. and Hayworth Roll and Panel. She served as a volunteer at High Point Regional Hospital and a sustaining member of the High Point Junior League. She was a life member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, former Sunday school teacher, and a former member of the Chancel Choir and the music committee. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Betty Sechrest Clontz.
Surviving are two sisters, Miss Joanne Sechrest of the residence and Mrs. Dixie Snider of High Point; a nephew, Bob Clontz of Monroe; and numerous cousins.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church by Dr. C. Garland Young and the Rev. Beverly Gaska. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. The body will be at Sechrest Funeral Home, E. Lexington Avenue until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
W. Gorham Sr.
Thomasville - William Curtis Gorham Sr., 77, of 121 Mount Calvary Road died Feb. 23, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Feb. 8, 1923, in Washington, D.C, a son of Richard Lee and Edna Humphries Gorham. He was a resident of Thomasville, since 1987. He retired as traffic management specialist with the Department of Defense, Washington, He was a member of Green Street Baptist Church, High Point, and had taught the Walter Crissman Sunday School Class. He was a former member of Rich Fork Baptist Church. He was a member of Gideons International, a distinguished Toastmaster and a member of the Henry Knoxville Masonic Lodge, Alexandria, Va., On Oct. 9, 1942, he married the former Ruth Gibbs, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are two sons, William Curtis Gorham Jr. of Fairfax, Va., and Raymond Lee Gorham Sr. of Beltsville, Md.; twin daughters, Judith Gorham Johnson of Montgomery, Ala., and Jean Marie Dart of Richmond, Va.; a sister, June Kinder of Alexandria, Va.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Green Street Baptist Church by the Rev. C.W. Moss, the Rev. Gene Phillips and the Rev. Byron Barker. Burial will be in National Memorial Park, Falls Church, Va., at a later date.

Savannah King
Lenoir - Mrs. Savannah Lee Simmons King, 84, of Rocky Road died Feb. 22, 2000, at Camelot Manor Nursing Care Facility.
She was born on Jan. 14, 1916, in Wilkes County, a daughter of William Avery and Zora Victoria Church Simmons, who preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and attended South Lenoir Church of God. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Harrie W. King, three brothers and four sisters.
Surviving are two sons, William Clyde King and Gary Lee King, both of Lenoir; three daughters, Mrs. Tam (Harlene) Triplett, Mrs. Roy (Vera) Watson, both of Lenoir, and Mrs. Horace (Shirley) Holsclaw of Kernersville; a sister, Sessie Winkler of Lenoir; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home by the Rev. Ken Hensley and the Rev. Keith Gilliam. Burial will be in Flemings Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
