Retired String and Splinter manager dies
Walter Patterson
Greensboro - Walter S. Patterson, 88, died Feb. 19, 2000, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Richmond County, a son of John and Sarah Ingram Patterson, who preceded him in death. He was a resident of Greensboro since 1949, and retired as manager of the String and Splinter Club, High Point.
Surviving are his loving wife of 591/2 years, Dorothy Patterson of the residence; three daughters, Sandra Patterson Davis of Newport News, Va., Beverly Patterson Pollard of Alexandria, Va., and Veda M. Patterson of Springfield, Va.; three grandchildren, CaSandra Davis Perrilliat, Dallas, George E. Davis Jr. and Eric C. Pollard, both of Alexandria, Va.; a great-granddaughter, Jessica Perrilliat; a sister, Willette Patterson Bailey of New York; two nephews, Walter Sims Jr. of New York and John Sims of Connecticut; a sister-in-law, Ruby D. Mason of Greensboro; a brother-in-law, Walter Sims Sr. of New York; and a niece and nephew-in-law, Yvonne and Robert Patterson of Greensboro; and a host of other relatives and loving friends.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. James Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Park. The body will be at Community Funeral Home, 2003 E. Market St., until 10 a.m. Saturday when placed in the church. Visitation will be 10 a.m. at the church.

Lexington - Cecil Darrell Skipper, 73, of Nottingham Drive died Feb. 22, 2000, at Lexington Memorial Hospital after an illness of eight weeks.

Pinkie Webb
High Point - Mrs. Pinkie Mosteller Webb, 89, formerly of 206 Old Thomasville Road died at 12:05 a.m. Feb. 23, 2000, at Wesleyan Arms.
She was born Aug. 24, 1910, in Lincoln County, a daughter of Kelly Lee and Margaret Rhoney Mosteller. She was a resident of High Point most of her life and retired from Harriss & Covington Hosiery Mill Inc. She was a charter member of Pilot View Baptist Church. On Oct. 22, 1932, she married Vernon Edward Webb, who preceded her in death Jan. 3, 1977.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Hilda W. White of Cary; two grandsons, Scott White and his wife, Lori, of Indian Trail and Nick White of Las Vegas; and two sisters, Mrs. Sam (Merlie Vee) Connor of High Point and Mrs. Carl (Willie Tate) Walcott of Neeses, S.C.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, by the Rev. James C. Smith, the Rev. David Keith and the Rev. Carroll M. Upton. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence of Mrs. Bernice Webb, 3300 N. Centennial Ave.

Thomasville - Mrs. Hettie Corder Dale, 95, formerly of Wesleyan Homes, 900 Eastchester Drive, died at 5 p.m. Feb. 23, 2000, at Britthaven of Davidson.
She was born Nov. 1, 1905, in Surry County, a daughter of Albert and Tibitha Butcher Corder. She was a resident of High Point most of her life and retired from Kitte Tot Hosiery Mill. She was a member of First Wesleyan Church and the Fellowship Bible Class. She was married to Charles Dale, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Grady (Myrtle) Lain of 879 Dogwood Circle, High Point; three sons, Ralph O. Davis of Mobile, Ala., James H. Davis of Thomasville, and Larry D. Davis of Lake Worth, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Grace Ellington of High Point; a brother, Wesley C. Corder of 700 Hines St., High Point; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Lexington - Luther Monroe Flynn Sr. of Raeford Avenue died at 6:47 p.m. Feb. 22, 2000, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Salisbury.
Memorial service will be 9 a.m. Sunday at the Community Church, Lexington Senior High Auditorium. Visitation will be immediately after the church service at the church.
Robert Hughes Sr.
Denton - Robert Lee Hughes Sr., 81, died Feb. 24, 2000.

Danny Nelson
Thomasville - Danny Hugh Nelson, 52, of 255 John Green Road died Feb. 24, 2000, at his residence.
He was born May 23, 1947, in Guilford County, a son of Jimmy and Dorothy Voyles Nelson. He had been a resident of the High Point and Thomasville area most of his life and had been employed by United Cerebral Palsy-Copymatic, Greensboro. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. On July 24, 1969, he married the former Joyce Sanders, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are two sons, John H. Nelson of Yadkinville and M. Joel Nelson and his wife, Kim, of Walkertown; his mother of High Point; a brother, Chris C. Nelson of Archdale; and two sisters, Vicki Martin of Thomasville and Joni D. Wade of High Point.
Graveside service will be 3 p.m. today in Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Stephen L. Welborn and the Rev. E.P. Tucker.

Bernice Sexton
High Point - Mrs. Bernice Sexton, 97, formerly of 1112 Adams St. died Feb. 23, 2000, at Wesleyan Arms Inc.
She was born Sept. 2, 1902, in Gold Hill, a daughter of James and Cora Miller Weant. She retired from Adams Millis Hosiery and was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. She enjoyed entertaining people in her residence and playing cards, especially gin rummy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nick Monroe Sexton, and eight siblings.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Wilma Freeman of Doylestown, Pa.; a niece, Dana Page of Doylestown; and grand nieces and cousins.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Glenn Myers. Burial will be in Floral Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Lexington - Ms. Ramona Ann Stewart, 62, of Brian Center Nursing Home, formerly of 299 Waterway Drive, died at 9:30 p.m. Feb. 23, 2000, at Brian Center Nursing Home.

James Williams
High Point - James Robert Williams Jr., 79, died Feb. 23, 2000, at Sunbridge of the Triad.
He was born April 11, 1920, in Thomasville. He was a U.S. Marine veteran of World War II. He retired from Old Dominion Freight and was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen E. Kearns May 24, 1990.
Surviving are a stepson, David L. Stephens of High Point; four sisters, Mrs. Maggie Varner of Trinity, Mrs. Jose Evans of Franklinville, Mrs. Ellen Atkinson of Sophia and Mrs. Pauline Leggens of Thomasville; a brother, Sam Williams of Los Angeles; and a granddaughter, Ann Marie Stephens.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Oakwood Municipal Cemetery by Dr. Glenn L. Myers Jr. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Sechrest Funeral Service, High Point.

Myrtle Auman
Asheboro - Myrtle Lucas Auman, 95, of 5909 Old Troy Road died Feb. 27, 2000, at her residence.
She was a native of Randolph County and a homemaker. She was a charter member of Pleasant Hill Primitive Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elsie G. Auman.
Surviving are three daughters, Isla Vuncannon and Nancy Wilson, both of Asheboro, and Barbara Delk of Charlotte; three sons, Charles Auman, Dalton Auman and Grayson Auman, all of Asheboro; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a sister, Laura Bell Betts of Asheboro; three brothers, David Lucas and Joe Lucas, both of Asheboro and James Lucas of Homestead, Fla.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Hill Primitive Baptist Church by Elder Richard Kirby and Elder Richard Cox. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Pugh Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Michyala Pearson
High Point - Michyala Quitta Pearson, 11, of 1208 Hoover Ave. died Feb. 24, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born June 27, 1988, in Roanoke, Va., a daughter of Troy and Lawanna Pearson Washington. She was a fifth-grade student at Northwood Elementary School. She was a member of St. Matthews Holiness Church. She was a honor roll student. She enjoyed swimming and bowling. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Benjamine Pearson.
Surviving are her parents; a brother, Rahsaan Pearson; two stepbrothers, Terrell and Timothee Washington; a sister, Keyarra Gravely; a step-sister, Karrikka Washington; three grandparents, Rreewentha Leggett, Howard Leggett and Elizabeth Washington; a great uncle, Benjamine Pearson; two great-grandmothers, Irisca Pearson and Ethal Scott; five aunts; six uncles; and a host of cousins and friends.

Aynor - Mrs. Marie Rogers, 59, of William Nobles Road died Feb. 27, 2000, at Conway Hospital following an illness.
She was born in Florence County, a daughter of Odell and Katie Elizabeth Harper Floyd, who preceded her in death. She was a member of Aynor Church of God. She also was preceded in death by her husband, William “Doug” Lester Rogers.
Surviving are two sons, Wayne Rogers of Myrtle Beach and LeRoy Rogers of Aynor; a daughter, Joyce Ann Rogers of Aynor; a brother, Marvin Floyd of Aynor; seven sisters, Joyce Rogers of Mullins, Lois Rogers, Doris Oxendine and Ruthie Dell Tyler, all of High Point, N.C., Virginia Hucks and Louise Byrd, both of Aynor and Ida Mae Cox of Florence; and five grandchildren.
