Thomas Braxton Harris, Sr.
Littleton. NC - Thomas Braxton Harris, Sr., age 79, of Littleton, NC, passed away June 10, 2011 at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson, NC. Mr. Harris was born October 31, 1931 in Halifax County, NC. The son of the late Person Frizell Harris and May Liles Harris. Tom was also predeceased in death by a brother Bobby Harris and three sisters Cornelia Reid, Alice and Sarah Pittard.
Tom was a veteran of the Korean War, a past commander of the American Legion Post 38. He farmed most of his life and had a passion for working on tractors.
Survivors include his three sons; Thomas B. Harris, Jr. and wife Pamela of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Anthony N. Harris of San Antonio, TX and Braxton "Brac" Harris and wife Linda of Roanoke Rapids, NC; His three sisters Anne Horne and husband Hugh of Littleton, NC, Kay Jones of Asheville, NC and Robin Harrison and husband Dwight of Roanoke Rapids, NC; His four grandchildren Christie, Michael, Summer and Will; Also his great-grandchild Kaylee.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Tabor United Methodist Church Cemetery in Littleton, NC with Rev. Sidney Collins officiating.
The family will receive friends Monday, June 13, 2011 from 7:00 until 8:30 PM at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, NC which is handling the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Tabor Methodist Church in Littleton, NC or the charity of your choice.
Irwin Reber Sutton
Roanoke Rapids, NC - Irwin Reber Sutton, age 87, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, died May 30, 2011 at Magnolia Gardens of Warrenton. Mr. Sutton was born August 20, 1923 in St. Clairsville, Ohio, the son of the late Ralph Sutton and Elizabeth Reber Sutton Dunlap.
Mr. Sutton was a member of Rosemary Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids, NC. He was also a World War II Veteran serving our country in the Air Force. Mr. Sutton was a member of the VFW and he also was a Mason.
Survivors include his wife Francis Juanita Sutton of Roanoke Rapids, NC; his son Ralph Sutton and wife Bonnie of King George, VA; his daughter Barbara Franklin of Raleigh, NC; his four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; his two great-great-grandchildren; his step-son Carroll Wayne Purks and wife Betty of Rappahannock Academy, VA; his two step-daughters Cynthia P. Nichols and husband Gregory of Roanoke Rapids, NC and Sherry Purks of Las Cruces, NM; Also surviving are seven step-grandchildren and eleven step-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Thursday, June 2, 2011 at Covenant Funeral Home in Fredricksburg, VA, 4801 Jefferson Davis Hwy Fredricksburg, VA 22408 from 7:00 until 8:30 PM.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 3, 2011 in the chapel of Covenant Funeral Home at 2:00 PM with Rev. Dennis Newton officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 3702 Loren Drive Fredricksburg, VA.

Celeste Frances Leodori Emmert
Roanoke Rapids. NC - Celeste Frances Leodori Emmert, age 90, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, formerly of Waldwick, NJ, passed away May 27, 2011 at the home of her granddaughter. Mrs. Emmert was born September 12, 1920 in Waldwick, NJ, the daughter of the late Benedetto Leodori and Assunta Pucci Leodori. She was also predeceased in death by her husband Dale Emmert.
Survivors include her two daughters Sherry Lee Daniel of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Joy Brown and husband Mark; her four grandchildren Bryan Kolek, Scott Kolek and his wife Allison, Christy Lee Wells and her husband Tom and Wendy Vaught and her husband Charles; seven great-grandchildren Kayla Hatcher and her husband Brandon, Michael Tapia and his wife Stephanie, Angela Wells, Jeremy Wells, Cynthia Forbes, Linda Vaught and Alexis Vaught; one great-great-grandson Charles Vaught; two sisters Caroline DiLallo and her husband Chester and Angie Wachsmuth and husband Lee. Also many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate Mrs. Emmert’s life will be held Saturday, June 4, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, NC with Rev. Robert Whitby officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Wayne Holmes West
Jackson, NC - Mr. Wayne Holmes West, age 80, of Jackson, NC, died Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Hampton Manor.
Mr. West was born February 18, 1931 in Nansemond County, Virginia the son of the late Hillard Clarence West and Iva Virginia Milteer West.
He was also predeceased by his brothers, Victor West, Leland West and his sisters, Ann Hartman, Pearl Shields, Ethel Kemp and Lois Riddick.
He was a retired farmer and served his country in the US Air Force from 1951-1954.
He is survived by his wife, Eddie Lou Hyers West. His sons, Timothy Scott West and his wife Denise of Houston, Texas and Eric Wayne West and his wife Denise of Woodbridge, VA. His grandchildren, Jacob, Nathan, Tyler, Mackenzie and Lucas West.
Graveside services will be held, Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Jackson Cemetery in Jackson, NC, with Rev. Billy Hardwick officiating.
The family will receive friends after the service at the cemetery.

Clara Irene Martin Barnes
Severn, NC - Clara Irene Martin Barnes, age 83, of Severn, NC, passed away Monday, May 23, 2011 at Southampton Memorial Hospital in Franklin, VA, surrounded by her loving family.
Clara was born April 28, 1928 in Northampton County, NC. The daughter of the late Uriah Edward Martin and Mollie Britt Martin. She was also preceded in death by her husband Henry Hodge Barnes Sr.
She was a children’s Sunday school teacher for thirty plus years at Severn Baptist Church. Clara loved her animals, flowers and working in the garden when she was able.
Survivors include her sister, Bennie Jean Britt and husband Harold of Conway, NC; her sister-in-law Maude Eure of Ahoskie, NC; her sons, Henry Hodge Barnes Jr., of Severn, NC; Glen Barnes and wife Melissa of Galatia, NC; Two daughters Debbie Cannon and husband Sam of Margarettsville, NC; and Mary Lynn Barnes of Severn, NC; two grandchildren Mindy and Jeffrey Cannon of Margarettsville, NC.
Graveside Services will be held, Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Severn Cemetery in Severn, NC, with Rev. Brent Hobbs officiating.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC, Tuesday, May 24, 2011 from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Severn Baptist Church or The Arthritis Foundation.

Sandra Kay Moore Pettway
Littleton, NC - Sandra Kay Moore Pettway, age 53, of Littleton, NC, died Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids, NC.
Sandra was born March 26, 1958, the daughter of the late Herbert Anderson Moore and Virginia Lois Jean Moore. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Kevin Pettway of Halifax, NC and Damian Pettway of Littleton, NC. Two sisters, Cathy Rhodes of Davenport, Florida and Toni Dickens of Littleton, NC. Her brother, Kenneth Moseley of Roanoke Rapids. Four grandchildren, Debra Long, Heaven Pettway, Devon Edwards and Izabella Pettway.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Calvary Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. Randy Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids Monday from 7:00 until 8:30 PM and other times at 763 Williams Street in Roanoke Rapids.
Elizabeth Lee Wright Green
Elizabeth Lee Wright Green, 85, of Wilson, died Saturday, May 14, 2011. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Weldon, at 2:00 PM. The Rev. Marty Stebbins will officiate.
Mrs. Green was born June 11, 1925 in Sharpsburg, Kentucky to the late Albert Edwin Wright and Francis Virginia White Wright. She attended Christian College in Columbia, Missouri and graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1946.
Mrs. Green is survived by her daughter, Frances Suiter Green Swink and husband, Marion Gray Swink of Effingham, SC.; three granddaughters, Elizabeth Stewart Swink Suggs and husband, Fred Wilson Suggs, III of Greenville SC.; Frances Green Swink of Philadelphia; M. Gray Swink, of Effingham SC.; a great-grandson, Fred Wilson Suggs IV of Greenville, SC.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Edwards Green, and a son Joseph Edwards Green Jr.

Mrs. Ramona Delores Farmer Shouse
Ahoskie, NC - Mrs. Ramona Delores Farmer Shouse, age 81, died Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie, NC.
Mrs. Shouse was born October 9, 1929 in Bertie County, NC. She worked for many years at the Roanoke-Chowan Hospital cafeteria.
Survivors include her daughters, Sheryl Beasley and her husband Morris of Woodland, NC, Lynette Verholtz and her husband Joe of Shingletown, California and Penny Eure and her husband John of Colerain, NC. Her sister, Jackie Kieft of Garner, NC, and her brother, Willie "Pookie" Farmer of Millennium, NC. Nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Monday, May 16, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Massey Funeral Home in Aulander, NC, with Rev. Taylor Latham officiating.
The family will receive friends after the service at the funeral home.

Aulander, NC - Susan Joyner Harmon, age 49, passed away May 11, 2011 at Roanoke Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie, NC.
Susan was born January 17, 1962 in Hertford County, NC. She graduated from Chowan College in 1994 with a B.A. in elementary education and was employed as a teacher in Hertford County public schools.
Survivors include her husband, Linwood Earl Harmon of Aulander, NC; Her two daughters Tonya Thompson and husband Neal of Woodland, NC and Melissa Wommack and husband Kenneth of Ahoskie, NC; Her two grandchildren Charlie and Landon Thompson of Woodland, NC; Her parents Julian and Blonnie Joyner of Ahoskie, NC; Her two sisters Peggy Walston and husband Perry of Ahoskie, NC, and Tammy Evans and husband Micheal of Murfreesboro, NC; Her two brothers Michael Joyner and wife Wendy of Midwest City, Ok., David Joyner and wife Josie of Askewville, NC, also several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Higher Ground Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Raymond Faircloth officiating. Burial will follow at Job Cemetery.
