Shirley Ann Vaughn
Margarettsville, NC – Shirley Ann Vaughn, 76, of Margarettsville, NC, went home to be with her Lord Sunday, July 8, 2012 at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids, NC.
Shirley Vaughn was a loving wife and mother, whose greatest accomplishments were being able to love, care for and support her family.
Mrs. Vaughn was a member of Margarettsville Baptist Church for fifty-seven years where she loyally and lovingly served her church and her church family as a Deacon, a Sunday School teacher, a member of the choir and the director of the WMU.
She was a retired Postmaster for the United Postal Service, loved crafting and flower gardening. She never met a stranger and had a true love of all people.
Mrs. Vaughn was preceded in death by her parents Maynard and Eula Ferguson Griffin, her son Jerry Vaughn and her brothers Lawrence Griffin, Joe Griffin and Buck Griffin.
She is survived by her loving husband of fifty-seven years, John Vaughn, her son Neal Vaughn wife Karen of Margarettsville, NC her grandson Joshua Vaughn of Greenville, NC whom she loved dearly, her brother Fletcher Griffin and wife Joann of Suffolk, VA, her sister Estelle Griffin Crump and husband Wayne of Supply, NC, her sister Lucy Griffin Roe of Supply, NC, and several beloved and cherished nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 10, 2012 from 7:00 – 8:00 PM at Massey Funeral Home, Jackson, NC. A private graveside service will be held.

Kenneth Brown
Colerain, NC – Kenneth Brown, age 74, died Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at Vidant Inpatient Hospice, Greenville, NC.
Kenneth was a loving Pop to everybody, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He was a member of Colerain Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents James Elmer "Doc" and Margaret Elizabeth Lambeth Brown. He is survived by his wife Julia O. Brown, his son Ken Brown and wife Terry of Conway, NC, his brothers: Donnie Brown and wife Freda of Chesapeake, VA, Richard Brown and wife Betty of Weldon, NC and Alton Brown and wife Pearl of Conway, NC, and his sister Betty Brown of Weldon, NC.
Also surviving are his grandchildren: Allison Satterfield and husband Alan of Roxboro, NC and Colby Brown of Conway, NC, his great-grandchild: Brantley Satterfield of Roxboro, NC, and a special niece Karen McCalvin of Ashland, KY.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 6, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Massey Funeral Home chapel, Aulander, NC, the Rev. Bob Rogers officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarlawn Cemetery, Rich Square, NC.
The family will receive friends Thursday, July 5, 2012 from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at Massey Funeral Home, Aulander, NC.

Russell Eugene Snider
Halifax, NC - Russell Eugene Snider, age 63, of Halifax, NC, died Thursday, June 28, 2012 in Newton, NC.
Mr. Snider was an accomplished cook and caterer and known for his bar-b-que and bar-b-que chicken. He was preceded in death by a son, Daryl Tanner and a sister, Deborah Snider Crickmore.
Survivors include his wife Carol Tuck Snider. His children, Ashley Jones, Jessie Jones, Deborah Truitt, Rodney Tanner, Derby Tanner and Becky Oster. His parents Russell "J.R." Snider and Ivy Marie Lee Snider of Halifax, NC. His sisters, Katie Long of Halifax, NC, and Glenda Russell of Roanoke Rapids, NC. His brothers, Marvin Snider of Roanoke Rapids, Randolph Snider, and Caleb Snider, all of Halifax. Also many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held, Sunday, July 1, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids.
The family will receive friends Saturday, June 30, 2012 from 7:00 until 9:00 PM at the funeral home

Joseph Paul Sumner
Ahoskie, NC - Joseph Paul Sumner, 33, died Sunday, June 24, 2012 in Ahoskie, NC.
Joe’s greatest joy was his daughter Abby Sumner, and he was a member of St. John’s Baptist Church in Ahoskie.
Mr. Sumner was preceded in death by his mother Carolyn Sumner and his sister Lisa Patterson.
He is survived by his daughter, Abby Sumner, his father Lee Sumner of Ahoskie, NC, his brother Mike Patterson and wife Colleen of Edenton, NC, his nephews Joey Patterson and Liam Lawson and his niece Riley Patterson.
Funeral services will be Thursday, June 28, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Saint John Baptist Church, Ahoskie, NC, with the Rev. Garry Medford and Rev. Woody Copeland; interment will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens.

Annie Vaughan Jenkins
POTECASI - Annie Vaughan Jenkins of Potecasi, known far and wide as one of the greatest UNC Tar Heel fans of all time, died Monday, June 18, 2012 at Northampton Nursing and Rehab Center in Jackson.
At age 88, she lived a full life and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.
A lifelong resident of Northampton County, she was born on February 13, 1924, the daughter of the late Will and Della Vaughan of Potecasi, the place she always called home.
She and her husband, the late L.C. "Duck" Jenkins Jr., raised a daughter and two sons and both beamed with pride over their grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Lois J. Allen and husband, Kenny, of Boykins, VA; and her two sons, Wayne Jenkins and wife, Donna, of Woodland, and Luther Jenkins and wife, Julia, of Conway.
Her grandchildren – to include Terry A. Bolton (husband, Danny) of Boykins, VA, Bryan Jenkins (wife, Nona) of Smithfield, Suzanne J. Cook (husband, Brandon) of High Point), Billy Jenkins (wife, Brooke) of Conway, and Meghan J. Salmon (husband, Gregg) of Fuquay Varina – will always cherish the many lessons of life she shared with them.
Also surviving are three great-granddaughters, Kathryn Jenkins, Greyson Cook and Chloe Salmon; a great-grandson, Luke Jenkins; a brother, Stanley W. Vaughan of Jackson; and a sister, Virginia V. Leake of Roanoke Rapids.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at the Potecasi Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Keith Vaughan presiding. Memorial donations can be made to Pine Forest Rest Home, 3277 NC Highway 35, Woodland, 27897.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 19 at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, and at other times at the home of Wayne and Donna Jenkins, 3064 NC Highway 35 in Potecasi.
The family thanks the staff of Pine Forest Rest Home, where Mrs. Jenkins resided for four years, and Northampton Nursing and Rehab Center.

Dennis Stephen Smith
Roanoke Rapids, NC - Dennis Stephen Smith, age 56, of Roanoke Rapids, died Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Smith was born November 14, 1955 in Ahoskie, NC. He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Alton Smith, his step-father, Robert "Jack" Rose and a brother, Robby Allen Smith. He was a carpenter and worked for William Overton Construction Co.
He is survived by his wife Teresa Hooker Smith. His sons, Brandon Brooks Smith and Dennis Michael Smith and his wife Bobbie Turner Smith. His mother, Bobbett Butler Rose of Roanoke Rapids. His brother Andy Rose and his sister Dinah Taylor and her husband Norman, all of Roanoke Rapids. His grandchildren, Dylan Smith, Emily Smith, Brandon Smith and Mason Smith.
A memorial services will be held Friday, June 15, 2012 at 7:00 PM at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, NC.
The family will received friends after the service at the funeral home.

Mary Barbara Lassiter
Millennium, NC - Mary Barbara Lassiter, 81, of Millennium, NC, died Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Kindred Hospital, Greensboro, NC.
She was preceded in death by her mother Katherine Lavoie, her daughters Nancy Hurdle and Janet Marie Lassiter and her sons Joseph and Christopher Lassiter.
She is survived by her daughter Robin Hoggard of Powellsville, NC, her son Dickie Lassiter and wife Heidi of Ahoskie, NC, her grandchildren Scott Hurdle, Chris Lassiter, Randy Hoggard, Lisa Saab, Michelle Hoggard, Ashely Lassiter, April Lassiter, Marsha Lassiter and five great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are her sisters: Sandy LaValley of Hinsdale, NH, Priscilla Midgette of Lowell, MA, sister-in-laws Margaret Lassiter of Columbia, NC, and Pauline Hamilton of Frederick, MD, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Sunday, June 17, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Aulander Cemetery, Aulander, NC, the Rev. Randy Miller officiating.

Mr. William Harvey "Bill" Urbahns
Roanoke Rapids, NC – Mr. William Harvey "Bill" Urbahns, 79, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, died Sunday, June 10, 2012 at his home.
Mr. Urbahns was a member of Roanoke Rapids Church of God, where he served as a Sunday School teacher and video technician; and he was retired from Overnite Trucking.
He is preceded in death by his parents Walter H. and Golda Hudson Urbahns and a great-granddaughter Angel Urbahns.
Surviving is his wife Betsy Storey Urbahns, his son William Harvey Urbahns, his daughter Tammy Yarborough and husband Joey of Roanoke Rapids, NC, five grandchildren; Lisa Shearing, Dustin Lewis Urbahns and Chris Bradley, David Mooney and Michelle Jenkins, five great-grandchildren: Dylan, Haleigh, Brianna, Leland and Sammy.
He is also survived by his brother, Paul D. Urbahns of Mobil, AL, and his sisters: Claudine Andress of Spanish Fort, AL and Florence U. Nelson of Wilma, AL.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, June 15, 2012 at 3:00 PM at Roanoke Rapids Church of God, the Rev. Michael Mooneyham and the Rev. Richard Williford officiating. Burial will follow at Crestview Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, NC.

Lucile Fisher Brown
Roanoke Rapids, N.C - Lucile Fisher Brown, 100, went home to be with her Lord peacefully Friday morning, June 8, 2012 at Skyland Care Center in Sylva, NC. A native of Nash County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Dolphus Clyde and Mary Hollingsworth Fisher. She was a dedicated 75 year member of Rosemary United Methodist Church in Roanoke Rapids, N.C. She volunteered for the County Registrar in Halifax County, N.C., volunteered at the local nursing home ministry in Roanoke Rapids and delivered Meals on Wheels for quite a few years until she was 96 years old.
She was well-known for her ham biscuits and homemade pimento cheese sandwiches and enjoyed her time with her Hardee’s and Bojangles Companions as well as her porch gang. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Robert Carlton Brown, one sister and two brothers.
She is survived by two sons; Robert Carlton Jr. and his wife Karen Welker Brown of Chester, VA, Walter Dolphus and his wife Elaine Holt Brown of Cullowhee, grandchildren: Wendy Elaine Brown, Richard Carlton Brown, Walter David (Amanda) Brown, Jonathan Fisher (Eryn) Brown and Stephen Holt Brown and his fiancé Jordyn, great-grandchildren: Ronald Carlton Brown, Shane Anthony Black, Ashlee Pearl Gentry, Walter Dylan Brown, Henry Wyatt Brown, Oliver Perry Brown, Chloe Grace Brown, Isaac Shane Brown and Griffin David Brown.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Rosemary United Methodist Church in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, with the Rev. Jim Bell officiating, burial will immediately follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.

Mr. William Carlton Little
Seaboard, NC - Mr. William Carlton Little, age 82, of Seaboard, NC, died Friday, June 8, 2012 at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.
Mr. Little was born March 31, 1930 in Seaboard, NC, the son of the late Major Green Little and Gladys Hill Little. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Hilton Little and John T. Little and a sister, Ruby Little Davis.
Survivors include two sisters, Janie L. Hux and Rachel A. Little, both of Seaboard, NC. Also several nieces and nephews.
Services will be private.
