Windsor, NC - Janice Todd Castellow, age 67, died Sunday, May 27, 2012 at the Brian Center in Windsor, NC.
Mrs. Castellow was preceded in death by her husband W.L. Castellow and her parents S.W. and Sallie Askew Todd.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 29, 2012 from 10:00 - 10:30 AM at Massey Funeral Home, Aulander, NC. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM at the Edgewood Cemetery in Windsor, NC, with Rev. Jeff Russell and Rev. Buddy Denton officiating.
Massey Funeral Home, Aulander, NC, is in charge of the arrangements.
Ollie (Mae) Tidwell Snipes
Roanoke Rapids – Ollie (Mae) Tidwell Snipes, born in Jackson, NC, on May 7, 1921 went to be with the Lord on May 24, 2012.
She was preceded in death by her parents Simon and Elizabeth Tidwell, and her husband of fifty-nine years, Johnny James Snipes.
She is survived by three sons: William James Snipes, Michael Wayne Snipes and John Stephen Snipes of Roanoke Rapids; two daughters-in-law Patricia Reese Snipes and Pamela Singleton Snipes of Roanoke Rapids; three grandchildren Justin Snipes, Jarrett Snipes, and Jeremy Snipes of Roanoke Rapids and one sister, Beatrice Griffin of Tampa, FL.
She is a member of the Little Country Church on Thelma Road in Roanoke Rapids, NC. Funeral Services will be Saturday May 26, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Massey Funeral Home Chapel, Roanoke Rapids, NC, with the Rev. James Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.
The Family will receive friends Friday May 25, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Massey Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, NC.

Mrs. Elaine Jones Powell
Raleigh, NC – Mrs. Elaine Jones Powell died peacefully on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at the William M. Dunlap Center for Caring in Raleigh, NC.
She was born on April 27, 1923 to Wesley B. Jones and Helen Bryant Jones in Roxobel, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and two brothers.
In 1944 she married Robert A. Powell, Sr. of Woodland, NC, who died in 1970. She was a devoted daughter, wife, and mother.
Elaine is survived by two children: a son, Robert A. Powell, Jr. and his wife Dianne of Gaston, NC; daughter, Donna Powell Holland and husband, Ted, of Raleigh, NC. Also leaving to cherish her memory are her five grandchildren: Robbie Powell and wife, Heather, of Spring Valley, Ohio; Michael Powell and wife Adrienne of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Derrick Powell, of Gaston, NC, Jennifer Holland of Apex, NC and Nicole Holland of Vancouver, B.C. She is also survived by step-grandson, Richard Wheeler; great-granddaughter, Ryleigh Powell, and three step-great-grandchildren, Skye, Richard, and Brian Wheeler all of Roanoke Rapids, NC.
A funeral service honoring her life will be held on Friday, May 25, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Woodland Baptist Church in Woodland, NC. Visitation will begin at the church an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Rich Square, NC.
Mrs. Betty Jean Shotwell
Roanoke Rapids, NC – Mrs. Betty Jean Shotwell, 76, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, died Thursday, May 17, 2012 at her home.
She is preceded in death by her parents Uriah and Virginia Dawson Hunt and a sister Sarah Gentry. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and Retired from J.P. Stevens & Co.
Surviving is her husband Bunnie Hugh Shotwell, Jr., her sons Lawrence Shotwell and wife Kim of Roanoke Rapids, Ronnie Shotwell and wife Carol of Tampa, Fl, her daughter Bunnie Sue Allen and husband Gary of Roanoke Rapids, her brothers Randy Hunt and wife Barbara of Richmond, VA, Uriah B. Hunt Jr. and wife Margaret Ann of Alton, VA, and a brother-in-law Wiley Gentry of Roxboro, NC.
Mrs. Shotwell is also survived by six grandchildren, Christi Brantley and husband Brian, Jason Shotwell, Lauren Price and husband Mason, Justin Allen, Marsha Dao and husband Adam, six great-grandchildren, Macie Price, Ayden Brantley, Austin Brantley, Collin Dao, Victoria Shotwell and Isabella Shotwell, several nieces and nephews and two special caregivers, Sherry Parnell and Pam Underwood.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 19, 2012 4:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, NC.
The family will receive friends Friday, May 18, 2012 at Massey Funeral Home Roanoke Rapids, NC, from 6:00 to 8:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Saint Jude Children’s Hospital.
Ronald Seaton Sawyer, Sr.
Woodland, NC - Ronald Seaton Sawyer, Sr., age 67, of Woodland, NC, died Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie, NC.
Mr. Sawyer was born February 22, 1945 in East Lake, NC, the son of the late Revern Sawyer and Ada Ambrose Sawyer. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Sawyer and a sister Annette Evans. He was a retired carpenter.
Survivors include his children, Ronald Seaton Sawyer Jr. of Fremont, NC, Steannie Sawyer Sr., Lyseaton Barber and Ada Eaton, all of Woodland, NC. Four sisters, Myrna Ambrose and Onic Sawyer of East Lake, NC, Polly Sawyer of Manteo, NC, and Pamela Walston of Creswell, NC. His brother, Anthony Sawyer of Manteo, NC. Ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His very special friend Shirley Waters.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 18, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Woodland, NC.

Roanoke Rapids, NC – Mr. Paul L. "Honeybunn" Bobbitt, Jr., 68, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, died Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids, NC.
A private memorial service will be held.

Barbara Anne Holloman Ward
Colerain, NC - Barbara Anne Holloman Ward, age 70, of Colerain, NC, died Monday, May 7, 2012 at her home.
Mrs. Ward was born December 7, 1941 in Hertford County, NC, to the late Clarence Edward and Mabel Virginia Simpson Holloman.
She is preceded in death by her husband Clarence "Sam" Edward Ward.
She is survived by her sons, Lonnie Edward Ward of Colerain and John K. "Kenny" Ward of Coalfield, her daughter Virginia Lee "Judy" Ward of Merry Hill, her brothers John Edward "J. E." Holloman of Harrellsville, Wesley McCoy "Bug" Holloman of Suffolk, VA, Doyle R. "Buddy" Holloman of Harrellsville, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held, Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Harrellsville Cemetery in Harrellsville, NC, with Rev. Dean Jarvis officiating.

Mr. Glenn L. Armstrong
Battleboro, NC – Mr. Glenn L. Armstrong, 59, of Battleboro, NC, died Sunday, May 6, 2012 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville, NC.
Mr. Armstrong was a member of Lord Jesus Christ Center in Rocky Mt, and was known for his generosity to others.
He is preceded in death by his parents John Henry and Lucille Register Armstrong.
Surviving is his brother John Armstrong of Colonial Heights, VA, his sisters, Cathy Harrell of Raleigh, NC, Susan Batchelor of Nashville, NC and Carol Harper of Rocky Mount, NC.
Graveside Services will be held Wednesday May 9, 2012 11:00 AM at Whitakers Memorial Cemetery Whitakers, NC; the Rev. Margaret Soloman officiating.

Mr. Neal Harold Griffin, Jr.
Roanoke Rapids, NC - Mr. Neal Harold Griffin, Jr., age 72, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, died Sunday, May 6, 2012 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC.
Mr. Griffin was born October 10, 1939 in Saint Pauls, NC, the son of the late Neal Harold Griffin Sr. and Eleanor Marjorie Becker Griffin. He was also predeceased by his wife Dorothy Jenkins Griffin, three sisters, Ramona Smith, Gracie Russ and Retha Reiser, a step-son, Billy Green and a grandson Joshua Green.
Harold was a faithful member of Harvest Temple Pentecostal Holiness Church, a US Army veteran, former police officer with the Roanoke Rapids Police Department, Lifetime member of the Roanoke Valley Rescue Squad, where he had served as the Commander. He had been employed with Massey Funeral Home for the past eight years.
He is survived by his sons, Randy Griffin and wife Kathy of Roanoke Rapids, and Peewee Griffin and his wife Leila of Littleton. His grandchildren, Jamie Griffin, Kyle Griffin, Megan Griffin, Jeb Green, Job Green and Timothy Snipes and his wife Allyson. His brother, Glenn Griffin of Delaware, his sisters Fran Apgar of Delaware, and Rena Johnson of Maryland.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Harvest Temple Pentecostal Holiness Church in Roanoke Rapids, with Rev. Norwood Starlings officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids Tuesday from 7:00 until 8:30 PM and other times at the home of his son Randy Griffin in Roanoke Rapids.
Mavis Carolyn Wheeler
Seaboard, NC - Mavis Carolyn Wheeler, age 71, of Seaboard, NC, died Friday, May 4, 2012 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, NC.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Margaret Allen Wheeler and a special brother-in-law, W.T Rose.
She is survived by her three sisters, Vicky W. Rose of Seaboard, Nettie W. Watson and husband Charlie of Midlothian, VA and Charmie W. Wheeler and husband Carl Ray of Seaboard. Other immediate family members include, Bernard and Kim Rose, David and Denise Watson, Ed and Christy Rose, Joe and Jennifer Rose, Ashley and Wendy Watson, Benita and Brian Davis, Meredith and Logan Wheeler. Three uncles, Jennings Allen, Otis Wheeler and Sidney Allen Sr. Three aunts, Millie Martin, Virginia Flythe and Nell Long. Also ten great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held, Sunday, May 6, 2012 at 3:00 PM at Galatia Baptist Church with Rev. David Foster officiating. Burial will follow at Conway Cemetery in Conway, NC.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, Saturday from 7:00 until 8:30 PM.
