Aulander, NC – John Ballard Thomas, 80, died Wednesday May 2, 2012 at Kindred Health Care, Ahoskie, NC.

Funeral Services will be Sunday, May 6, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Massey Funeral Home Chapel Aulander, NC, the Rev. William Odom and the Rev. J. N. Baggett Officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Joyner Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 6:00 to 7:30 PM at Massey Funeral Home Aulander, NC.

Mr. Frederick Carl "Fred" Andreason

Aulander, NC – Mr. Frederick Carl "Fred" Andreason, 75, of Aulander, NC, died Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie, NC.

Mr. Andreason was a retired US Navy Chief Petty Officer First Class; that proudly served 23 years, which included the Vietnam War and the Cuban Blockade. He retired from Norfolk Naval Yard. He also served as the former Commander of the Aulander VFW Post and was an avid collector of antique tractors and gas engines.

He is preceded in death by his parents Carl and Julia Pillsbury Andreason and his son Jimmy Andreason.

Surviving are his wife of forty-three years, Barbara Lassiter Andreason, his sons Matt and Daniel Andreason of Aulander, his sisters Julie Peosxey of Fairmont, ND, and Louisa Kelly of Paynesville, MN, his brother Robert Andreason of Roseholt, SD, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, April 27, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Massey Funeral Home Chapel, Aulander, NC. Interment will follow at Job Cemetery, Aulander, NC.

The family will receive friends Thursday, April 26, 2012 at Massey Funeral Home, Aulander, NC, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM.

Wesley Wayne Clay, Sr.

Gloucester, NC - Wesley Wayne Clay, Sr., 59, of Gloucester, died Saturday, April 21, 2012.

A graveside memorial service will be held Wednesday, April, 25, 2012 in the Elmwood Cemetery in Enfield, NC.

Massey Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Jane Elizabeth Perry Winstead

Roanoke Rapids, NC - Jane Elizabeth Perry Winstead, age 66, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, died Friday, April 20, 2012 at Highland Gardens in Pleasant Hill, NC.
Mrs. Winstead was born October 27, 1945 in Halifax County, NC, and is a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church.

She is proceeded in death by her parents Arthur James Perry and Virginia Moore Perry and her brother E.V. Perry.

She is survived by her husband Charles Winstead, her son James Reginald Winstead and wife Sharon (Pokey) of Roanoke Rapids, her sisters Barbara Barrett of Roanoke Rapids and Daphene Ferguson of Emporia, VA, a brother James Perry of Roanoke Rapids, two granddaughters Carol Ann Radford and husband Danny and Wendy Winstead of Roanoke Rapids, a step-granddaughter Brianna Radford and a great-grandson Bryson Radford.

Graveside services will be held, Monday, April 23, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. D.A. Leonard officiating.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, Sunday April 22, 2012 from 7:00 until 8:30 PM.

Rufus Benjamin Rose

Roanoke Rapids - Rufus Benjamin Rose, 60, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, went home to be with the Lord on April 9, 2012 at his home in Roanoke Rapids, NC.

Mr. Rose, born August 20, 1951 in Halifax County; was preceded in death by his wife, Deborah Johnson Rose; father, Benjamin Hardy Rose and his mother, Faye Jackson Rose.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sandra Knight Rose (Sandy); son, Dusty Ray Rose (Tracy); daughters, Charlene Rose Moody (Vic); and Kayla Frances Rose. Grandchildren, Lauren Rose, Kelli Rose, Trevor Moody, and Logan Moody, a special mother-in-law, Doris Knight, and a special aunt, Alice Perry. Sisters-in-law; Betty Moore (Butch) and Nancy Medlin (Joe). Nieces, nephews and cousins. Special Friends; Barbara Barham (Granny Barbara), Stanley & Bonnie Anderson, Donna Valdez, Michael & Stephanie Williams, Scott & Nikki Rozier, Jay & Faye Wright, Ronnie & Gail Britt, Reggie & Libbie White, William & Margaret Dickens. Employees at White Cap Linen and his church family of Calvary Baptist Church. He loved his family and friends dearly.

Rufus was currently employed by White Cap Linen, Columbia, NC. He dearly loved his job and his co-workers and was so proud to be a part of this company. He was previously employed by Halifax Linen in Roanoke Rapids, NC. He previously served in the Gaston Volunteer Fire Department.

Rufus was a wonderful husband, father and friend. His favorite color was red. He had a red wagon at an early age, stepped up to a red tricycle, then bicycle, then car, and last owned a red pick up truck. He always said red to him was such a happy color. Those who are wearing red today are celebrating his favorite color.

The family is praising God for his salvation and rejoicing that they will one day see him again when they join him in Heaven with Jesus.

Funeral services will be Thursday, April 12, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church, Rev. Randy Martin and Rev. Norwood Stallings will be officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery, Roanoke Rapids, NC.

The Family will receive friends, Wednesday, April 11, 2012 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Massey Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, NC.

James William Howell, Sr.

Margarettsville, NC - James William Howell, Sr., 64, of 2585 Severn Rd., passed away March 28, 2012 at his home, from complications of cancer.

Mr. Howell was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the U.S. Marine Corps; among his many medals is the Prestigious Purple Heart. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and The American Legion and was a retired business owner.

He leaves behind his wife of twenty-three years Virginia Shaffer Howell of the home, his mother Georgia Howell Beickert of Margarettsville, four children, James William Howell and wife Suzanne of Winston Salem, NC, Christina Lea Kastenhuber of Wilmington, NC, Cathrina Lea Bishop and husband Kenneth of Margarettsville, NC, and Paul Thomas Outland, Jr. of Graveport, OH, ten grandchildren, Hope Alexander Prettyman, Kelly Amber Prettyman, Dillon Montana Howell, Makayla Rose Hobbs, Madison Irene Virginia Hobbs, Benjamin Thomas Outland, Megan Nicole Outland, Lily Katherine Outland, Kenneth Lee Bishop, Jr. and Leah Marriss Bishop, a sister Georgia Paulette Howell of Margarettsville, NC, five brothers, George Bennett Howell of Margarettsville, NC, Richard Thomas Howell of Seaboard, NC, Joey Butler Howell of Margarettsville, NC, Andy Ray Howell of Shawbord, NC, Marvin Wayne Howell of Emporia, VA, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Tuesday April 3, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Severn Baptist Church, with the Rev. Brett Hobbs officiating, interment will follow at the family cemetery in Margarettsville, NC.

The family will receive friends, Monday April 2, 2012 from 7:00 - 8:30 PM at Massey Funeral Home, Jackson, NC.

Mrs. Joe Lingenfelter

Roanoke Rapids, NC – Mrs. Joe Lingenfelter, 78, of Potecasi, NC, died Monday, March 26, 2012 at the home of her daughter.

Mrs. Lingenfelter was born February 3, 1934 in Como, NC the daughter of the late Wallace Peterson and Mildred Lassiter Peterson. She was also preceded in death by her husband Joe Lingenfelter a daughter Belinda Henry, a grandson Tony Roan, a brother Pete Peterson, a sister Patricia Allsbrook and infants Michael and Debbie Roan. She was a member of Potecasi Baptist Church

Survivors include her daughters, Sandy Bishop and Flo Giles of Roanoke Rapids, her sons David Roan of Rocky Mount, Joe Roan of Sidney, MT, and Chuck Roan of Nashville, TN. Twelve Grandchildren, and three Great Grandchildren.

A graveside funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Potecasi Baptist Church Cemetery, the Rev. Bob Deacon presiding.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 27, 2012 from 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM at Massey Funeral Home, Jackson, NC.

Mr. James Donald Cox

Roanoke Rapids, NC - Mr. James Donald Cox, 69, died March 21, 2012 at Wake Medical Center, Raleigh, NC.
Mr. Cox was a long-time employee of Glover Construction, a US Navy Veteran serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis and a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Seaboard, NC.

Mr. Cox is proceeded in death by his father John Monroe Cox and mother Gertrude Harrell Cox.

He is survived by his wife Margie Cox of the home, his son Paul Cox and wife Rani of Mitchell County, NC, a brother Bobby Cox and wife Joanne of Roanoke Rapids, sisters Pat Haygood and husband Jimmy of Cary, NC and Lillian Daniels of Myrtle, SC. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, James R. Cox, Miranda Cox, Brittany Cox, Cain Quinn, Ian Quinn, Jessica Cox, George Shaw IV, Madison Shaw and John Cox and five great-granddaughters.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Massey Funeral Home Chapel, Roanoke Rapids, NC, the Rev. Ricky Barnes and Rev. Jeff Lane officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery, Roanoke Rapids.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM Friday March 23, 2012 at Massey Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the family.

Mr. Luther S. "Goose" Daughtry

Roanoke Rapids, NC - Mr. Luther S. "Goose" Daughtry, 83, died March 19, 2012 at Liberty Commons, Weldon, NC.

Mr. Daughtry was retired from Weyerhaeuser Corporation after 26 years and had attended Nashville Auto Diesel College in Nashville, TN. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, an Army Veteran and a member of the Piano Technicians Guild.

Mr. Daughtry is proceeded in death by his father Romie Thomas Daughtry and mother Paulina Gray Daughtry, his brothers Ernest Edward Daughtry, Paul Thomas Daughtry and Romie Tesmer Daughtry and sisters Clarice D. Vick and Nannie D. Clark.

He is survived by his wife Mary Lee Baird Daughtry, son Luther "Stan" Daughtry of Kenly, NC, a daughter Kim D. Goettler and husband Brian of Juneau, AK, four grandchildren, Ashley Leigh Daughtry, Kyle Gray Daughtry, Caitlin Victoria Goettler, Kenneth Baird Goettler and a sister Dorothy Robbins of Roanoke Rapids, NC.

Funeral Services will be Friday, March 23, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Calvary Baptist Church, Roanoke Rapids, NC. With Rev. Randy Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery, Roanoke Rapids, NC.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM Friday, March 23, 2012 in the fellowship hall at Calvary Baptist Church prior to the funeral.

In Lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Calvary Baptist Church building fund.

Mrs. Geneva Johnson Barrow

Jackson, NC - Mrs. Geneva Johnson Barrow, age 81, of Jackson, NC, passed away Friday, March 16, 2012 at her home.

Mrs. Barrow was born March 20, 1930 in Northampton County, NC, the daughter of the late Luther Johnson and Georgia Futrell Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her husband of forty two years, William H. Barrow. She was a very faithful member of Jackson Baptist Church where she served in the church choir, as a primary Sunday School teacher, Deaconist and chaired the Deacon Board. Geneva was probably best known for her cakes and especially her wedding cakes and Triple B Catering.

Survivors include her son, William "Billy" Barrow and his wife Vickie of Edenton, NC, and her daughter Jenny Barrow Wells and her husband John also of Edenton, NC. Her grandchildren, Joshua Wells and his wife Sarah, Sam Barrow and his wife Ashley, Ashley Barrow, Joseph Wells and Matthew Barrow. Her great-grandchildren Jennifer Wells and Tyler Wells. Her siblings, Glen Johnson, Georgia Bernice Burgess, Alta "Shorty" Lane, Mildred Brown, Pearl Daniels and Mary Bruce Ledden. Her sister-in-laws, Bea Barrow, Jane Boone, Shirley Barrow and Barbara Bridgers and devoted caregiver and friend Windy Pope.

Funeral services will be held, Sunday, March 18, 2012 at 3:00 PM at Jackson Baptist Church with Rev. Warren Heitzenrater and Rev. Billy Howell officiating. Burial will follow at Jackson Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday, March 18, 2012 beginning at 2:00 PM at the Jackson Baptist Church prior to the service and other times at the home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Jackson Baptist Church.
