Annie Mariah Tyler
WINDSOR - Annie Mariah Tyler, died April 4, 2002 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville after a lifetime illness.
Survivors include, two sisters, Beulah Lee Turner and Georgia Tyler, both of Lewiston; one aunt and uncle, both of Virginia and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. April 10, 2002 at Gilliam Funeral Chapel, Windsor with the Rev. Bryant L. Hill, Sr. officiating. Interment was held in the St. Luke Church Cemetery, Windsor. Gilliam Funeral Home of Windsor was in charge of services.
Harry Sanderlin
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Mr. Harry Sanderlin, "Muke", a native of Bertie County, died April 7, 2002 at his home in Middletown, Connecticut.
Survivors include a sister, Geneva Sanderlin; two brothers, Jimmy Sanderlin of the home and Henry Sanderlin of Merry Hill and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service was held April 13, 2002 at Peterson Chapel Baptist Church, Merry Hill Pastor Ricky Williams officiating. Burial was in Peterson Chapel Church Cemetery, Merry Hill. Following the burial, the family received family and friends at the Merry Hill Community Building. Gilliam Funeral Home of Windsor was in charge of services.
George Richardson
SUMMERFIELD, Fla. - George "Ricky" Richardson, 74, died April 7, 2002.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Richardson; two children, Michelle Richardson and Tara Richardson Ericson and one sister, Nickie R. Joyner of Ahoskie.
Funeral services were held April 10, 2002 in Belvue, Fla. Burial followed in the family plot.
James E. Smith
WINTON - Mr. James Edward Smith, 72, died April 11, at his home in Winton. Mr. is a lifetime member of the Winton Baptist Church where he served as an usher.
Survivors include two sisters, Alice Taylor of Winton and Janie Jones of Ahoskie; three brothers, Lloyd "Shorty" Smith of Pendleton, William Carol Smith of Pennicle and Withy Smith of Spanaway, WA.
Graveside services were conducted at 2 p.m., April 14, 2002 at the Winton Baptist Church Cemetery in Winton with the Rev. Charles Harris officiating.
The family will receive friends at the home of Alice Taylor in Winton.
Massey Funeral Home in Aulander is handling the arrangements.
Rudolph Jenkins
AULANDER - Rudolph "Rudy" Jenkins, 41, of 754 Early Station Road, died April 13, 2002 at Bertie Memorial Hospital, Windsor,
Jenkins was a member of Mill Branch Baptist Church and Double J. Hunting Club in Winton. He worked at the Newport News Shipyard.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley C. Jenkins of the home; two daughters, Sandra Cherry of Durham and Venita Lee of Aulander; two brothers, Willie Jenkins of Washington and Larry Jenkins of Kinston; four sisters, Audrey Seay of White Plains, NY, Florence Howard of Aulander, Nicey Kearney of Hampton, Va and Olivia Taylor of Winton and one grandchild.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 18, 2002 at Luella Baptist Church in Kelford with the Rev. Vernon Lassiter officiating. Burial will follow in the Jenkins Family Cemetery in Aulander. Wilder’s Funeral Home of Aulander is handling arrangements.
Levell Saulsberry
AHOSKIE - Levell Saulsberry, 62, died April 13, 2002 at the residence.
Saulsberry was a member of Springhill Baptist Church and worked at Bennett Box Factory.
Survivors include three sons, Levelle Saulsberry, Jr. of Lima Ohio, Dennis Earl Granberry and Alvester Liverman both of Powellsville; one daughter, Patrina Mosby of Hudson, NY; one step-daughter, Sarah Saunders of Merry Hill; three brothers, Solmon Smallwood of Norfolk, Va, Samuel Saulsberry and Nollege Saulsberry both of Ahoskie; three sisters, Agnes Wiggins of Powellsville, Maggie Little and Estelle Watford both of Ahoskie; twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2002 at Luella Baptist Church with the Rev. Vernon Lassiter officiating. Burial will follow in the Ballance Family Cemetery.

Adoniram Jilcott
ROXOBEL - Mr. Adoniram Judson Jilcott, 86, died April 14, 2002 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie. Mr. Jilcott was a member of the Sandy Run Baptist Church in Roxobel and was a twenty-nine year member of the Bertie Board of Education.
Survivors include his wife, Sybil J. Jilcott of the home; two sons, Steve Jilcott of Windsor and Lanny Jilcott of Moyock; two sisters, Mabel Caner of Norfolk, Va and Daphne Askew of Ahoskie; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. April 17, 2002 at Roxobel-Kelford Cemetery in Roxobel with the Rev. David Rimel officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. tonight at Massey Funeral Home in Aulander.
In Lieu of flowers the family would like donations to be made to Bertie County Rescue Squad.

WINTON - Thelma Sessoms, 78, died April 11, 2002 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie.
Survivors include three brothers, James Sessoms of Ahoskie, John and Vann Sessoms of Murfreesboro; two sisters, Willie Mae Williams of Philadelphia, Pa. and Annie Greene of Winton and a host of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. today at Hunter’s Funeral Home Chapel in Ahoskie with the Rev. James R. Wiggins officiating. Burial will follow in the Watford Family Cemetery.
