Walter T. Griffin
MURFREESBORO - Walter Thomas Griffin, 78, died March 12, 2002 at his residence.
He is survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held today at 2 p.m. in Riverside Cemetery, Murfreesboro.
Garrett Funeral Home, Murfreesboro, is handling arrangements.
William T. Sessoms
POWELLSVILLE - William Taft Sessoms, a native of Bertie County, died March 12, 2002 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital. He was a member of First Baptist Missionary Church, Powellsville.
Survivors include one son, William Howard Sessoms of NY; one daughter, Mollie Freeman of Powellsville; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, March 16 at First Baptist Missionary Church. Burial will follow in the Perry Family Cemetery.
Reynolds Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Ishmell Powell
JACKSON - Ishmell Powell died March 8, 2002 in Hampton Woods Rest Home, Jackson.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 13 at 1 p.m. at St. John AME Church, Conway. Burial will follow in Powell Vaughan Cemetery near the family home. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 6-7:30 p.m. where the family will receive friends.

Dorothy A. Artinger
AUSTIN, TX - Dorothy Ashley Forehand Howell Artinger, 82, died Saturday, March 9, 2002. Mrs. Artinger was a native of Murfreesboro and was also a charter member of the Murfreesboro Historical Association.
Survivors include her son, Ronald W. Howell of Austin, TX; two brothers, John M. Forehand of Charlotte, Cecil M. Forehand of Murfreesboro; one sister, Clara F. Williams of Panama City, FL; one granddaughter; 24 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 13 at Loving Funeral Home, Portsmouth, VA. Interment will follow at the Churchland Baptist Church Cemetery, Chesapeake, VA. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, March 2, between 5-7 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home.
Julian Thomas Mathews
HARRELLSVILLE - Julian Thomas Mathews, Sr., 75, of 210 Baker Road, died March 10, 2002 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.
Mr. Mathews was a native of Hertford County and had retired as a cashier with the Canteen Corporation. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Drummond, Tennessee and was also a member of the American George Masonic Lodge #17, Murfreesboro.
Survivors include one daughter, Jane Hyman of Gaston SC; one son, Tommy Mathews of Lexington, SC; one sister, Elizabeth M. Jones and husband Jack, of Harrellsville and two grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 12 at 3 p.m. in Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie. Burial will follow in Mt. Tabor Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. at Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, prior to services. Memorial donations may be made to the Harrellsville Rescue Squad, The Heart Association, or a favorite charity.
Jean Marie Burgess Davis
CONWAY - Jean Marie Burgess Davis, 79, peacefully entered Heaven on Wednesday, July 18, 2012.
Born May 12, 1933 in Creeksville, she was the daughter of the late Currie Burgess and Lucy Burgess Britton. Jean was a faithful member of Zion United Methodist Church and a retired Beautician of 60 years. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Frank, Clyde, and Donnie Burgess.
Jean was the loving wife of 60 years to Grover, who preceded her in death on May 26, 2012.
A caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, "Mama Jean"/ "Jean-Jean" is survived by her three daughters, Debbie and her husband, Joel, of Weldon, Cindy and her husband, Jimmy, of Clayton, and Betsy Davis of Raleigh; four granddaughters, Lynn Barefoot of Four Oaks, Beth Pelter of Raleigh, Lindsey Hamer and Leslie Hodges both of Clayton; six great- grandchildren, Ashlyn Marie Farish, Kamryn Renee Hamer, Ava Claire and Lily Kate Pelter, and Nicole Elizabeth and Jordan Waverly Barefoot; brothers, Peter Burgess and his wife, Ann, of Creeksville whom Jean loved as a sister, Connie Burgess and his wife, Linda, of Greely, CO; her sister, Janice Hall of Rich Square; special sister-in-law, Ellen Byrd, her other "daughter" Ann Vann and her lifelong friend, Essie Woods, all of Conway, along with many nieces and nephews.
The family will be receiving friends at Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc. in Conway on Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 21 at Zion United Methodist Church, Zion Church Road, Conway with Rev. Suzanne Cobb presiding. Burial next to her beloved husband will follow in the Town of Conway Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial gifts be directed to the Masonic Home for Children, 600 College St., Oxford, NC, 27565 or to Zion United Methodist Church, c/o Susan Taylor, 719 Fire Tower Road, Jackson, NC, 27845.
Nadine H. Keeter
MERRY HILL - Nadine Howard Keeter, 83, died March 10, 2002 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.
Mrs. Keeter was a retired office manager and homemaker and a member of Merry Hill Baptist Church and the Eastern Star.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., March 14 in Edgewood Cemetery by the Rev. Michael Bryant. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday at Walker Funeral Home. Walker Funeral Homes of Windsor is in charge of the services.
She is survived by her son, Charlie E. Keeter of Washington.
LaShante Nicole Twine
POWELLSVILLE- LaShante Nicole Twine, 18, of Cofield departed her life March 2, 2002.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories a brother, Joseph C. Twine of Ft. Gordon, Ga; adoptive sister, Lakeshia E. Watford Korengay of Cofield; two stepbrothers, Darian Chamblee of Garner, Edward Chamblee, Jr. of Lewiston; her mother, Elizabeth Ann Watford Chamblee and stepfather Edward Chamblee Sr. of Powellsville; her father, Joseph Twine, Jr. of Charlotte; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bennie Lee Watford Sr. of Cofield; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph T. Twine Sr. of Murfreesboro; aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends at Hunter’s Funeral Home, Ahoskie, on Wednesday from 6-7 p.m. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Mt. Pleasant Plains Baptist church in Harrellsville.
Jon Christopher Stephenson
JACKSON- Jon Christopher Stephenson, 35, of Route 1, died Thursday, February 28, 2002 at his home. Jon graduated from Northampton East High School and attended East Carolina University. He worked with his father and brother on the family farm.
Survivors include his parents, Charles and Evelyn Allen Stephenson of Jackson; three brothers, Joey Stephenson, Jeff Stephenson and James Stephenson, all of Seaboard; his maternal grandmother, Lillie Rose Allen of Emporia, Va.; and his paternal grandmother, Anna E. Stephenson, of Seaboard; his uncles and aunts, Elliot Lou Stephenson, Tommy and Nancy Stephenson, both of Seaboard, Jean
S. Fulcher of New Bern, Shirley Everrette of Emporia, Va., Dan Stainback of Franklin, Va., Jean A. and Nathan Wright of White Plains, Va., and Earl Dean Allen of Emporia, Va. Also many cousins.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 3 at 2 p.m. at Mount Carmel Baptist Church by Rev. Keith Thomason and Rev. Franklin Stansbury. Burial followed at Seaboard Cemetery.
The family received friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson Saturday from 7 until 9 p.m. and at other times in the home of his parents.

MURFREESBORO- Amos Quentin Parker, 74, of 1335 US Highway 158-West, died on Sunday, March 3, 2002.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 5 at 11 a.m. at the Parker Family Cemetery in Murfreesboro. Garrett Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
