Constance A. Gadsden
WINTON - Constance A. Gadsden, 64, a native of Hertford County, died July 20, 2001, at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.
A memorial service will be conducted from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at C.S. Brown Cultural Arts Center, Winton, by the Rev. Robert Richardson. Entombment will be in First Baptist Church Cemetery Winton. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart Foundation. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.
Mrs. Gadsden was a retired schoolteacher with the Hertford County School System.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Gadsden; a daughter, Jill C. Gadsden of Winton; and one grandchild.
Annie P. Teabout
CHESAPEAKE, Va. - Annie Lou Parker Teabout, 86, a native of Bertie County, died July 20, 2001, in a local convalescent home. She was the widow of Joshua Edward Teabout.
A funeral was conducted Monday at the chapel of Cox Funeral Home by the Rev. Tom S. Hutton and the Rev. Donald L. Hardaway. Burial was in Lewiston Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Baptist Church Building Fund, 701 W. Olney Road, Norfolk, VA 23507.
Mrs. Teabout was a member of Central Baptist Church, Pythian Sisters Norfolk Temple No. 3, and El Fatima Santha No. 17.
Survivors include surrogate daughters, Nancy Plaskie and Danna Jo Ingram.
Clarence Cherry
LEWISTON - Clarence Cherry, 95, died July 20, 2001.
A funeral was conducted Monday at Mount Ararat Baptist Church, Windsor. Gilliam Funeral Home, Windsor, was in charge.
Charles D. Deloatch
GLENNSVILLE, Ga. - Charles Darnell Deloatch, 52, a native of Ahoskie, died July 6, 2001, in Glennsville.
A funeral was conducted July 11, 2001 at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Ahoskie. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, In c., Ahoskie, was in charge.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Howard Deloatch of Oxon Hill, Md.; a son, Lamont Deloatch of Oxon Hill; his mother, Mary Frances Deloatch of Ahoskie; four sisters; three brothers; and three grandchildren.
Daniel K. Edwards
DURHAM - Daniel Kramer Edwards, died July 17, 2001.
A funeral was conducted Friday at Duke Memorial United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his children, LeRoy Edwards of Conway, Daniel K. Edwards Jr., Claire Edwards, Jane Edwards, Marie Turner, James Lyonne Edwards and Richard and Lucile Duncan Edwards; a sister, Mary Jane Klopp; and four grandchildren.
Alice P. Baker
AHOSKIE - Alice Pritchard Baker, 69, a native of Bertie County, died July 22, 2001, at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie. She was the widow of Marvin Bland Baker.
A memorial service will be conducted at 4 p.m., Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Ahoskie by the Rev. Dr. Jesse J. Croom. Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, is in charge.
Mrs. Baker was a retired receptionist with the office of Dr. Boyette. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Ahoskie.
Survivors include two sons, Bland Baker of Ahoskie and Jeff Baker of Sigel, Ill.; one sister, Marjorie Alligood of Albemarle; and five grandchildren.
Dorsey G. Byrum
WINDSOR - Dorsey Griffin Byrum, 64, a native of Bertie County, died July 21, 2001, at Nash General Hospital, Rocky Mount.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Cashie Baptist Church by the Rev. Dennis Conner and the Rev. Eddie Coltrain. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Bertie County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 74, Windsor, NC, 27983. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Tuesday evening at Walker Funeral Home, Windsor.
Byrum was a retired woodworker from Colburn Lumber Company and a member of Cashie Baptist Church where he was also a deacon. He was a member of the Windsor Lions Club and a former member of the Jaycees.
Survivors include his wife, Lillie Leary Byrum; two sons, Ernie G. Byrum of Newport News, Va., and Thomas Byrum of Windsor; a brother, Larry "Boots" Byrum of Jamesville; a sister, Frances B. Blanton of Windsor; and two grandchildren.
Otis J. Freeman
GATES - Otis J. Freeman, 74, a native of Gates, died August 10, 2001, in Elizabeth City.
A funeral was conducted Tuesday at Ballard's Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. William Wiggins.
Burial was in the Johnson family cemetery.
Hunter's Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, was in charge.
Freeman retired from Planter's Peanut and was a member of Ballard's Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Otis D. Freeman of Gates and Cecil Freeman of Corapeake; one brother, Willie L. Boone of Gates; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Maggie O. Veale
LEWISTON - Maggie Outlaw Veale, 97, a native of Bertie County, died August 13, 2001, at Hallmark Nursing Home, Windsor.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke Pentecostal Holiness Church, Lewiston, by the Rev. Barry Lee.
Burial will be in the Outlaw family cemetery.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at Cherry's Funeral Home Chapel, Windsor.
Mrs. Veale was retired.
Survivors include her husband, George Veale; five daughters, Daisy Cherry and Mary Smith, both of Atlantic City, N.J., Flossie Wilkins and Fannie Thompson, both of Lewiston and Florence Lee of Aulander; one son, William Veale of Atlantic City; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Celestine M. Battle
COFIELD - Celestine M. Battle, a native of Hertford County, died August 11, 2001, at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Charlie Carter.

Survivors include two daughters, Adrian Dinkins Simmons of Ahoskie and Ernestine Wilkins Sneed of Virginia Beach, Va.; her mother, Philomena Battle of Norfolk; one brother, William Battle Jr. of Norfolk; and three grandchildren.
Jessie G. Story
NEWSOMS, Va. - Jessie Giles Story, 90, a native of Southampton County, died August 13, 2001.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Minnie Hill Story.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel of Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, by the Revs. Gary Hartman and Kenneth Williams. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Barnes UMC, c/o Mrs. Linda J. Drake, 25232 Drake Drive, Newsoms, Va 23874.
Story was a retired farmer.
He was a member of Barnes United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Gracie Gray Story; two sons, James L. "Tee Wee" Story and Jesse L. "Buddy" Story, both of Chesapeake; a brother, R. Edward Story of Newsoms; three stepdaughters, Audrey Pope of Courtland, Catherine Parker of Franklin and Brenda Francis of Ahoskie; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and 17 step-great-grandchildren.
