Brenda Brown-Bond
WINDSOR - Brenda Brown-Bond, died Jan. 27, 2002, at the Brian Center.
A funeral was conducted Saturday at Spellers Chapel Disciples of Christ Church by Bishop John Armstrong.
Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Gilliam Funeral Home was in charge.
Survivors include her husband, Henry Bond; a son, Jarrett Bond of Windsor; her mother, Ida Brown of Williamston; ten sisters and brothers, Noah Brown, Norman Brown, Jerry Brown and Lester Brown, all of Williamston, James Brown of Jamesville, Barbara Smith, Gloria Spruill, Nancy Brown and Irene Rascoe, all of Williamston and Sheila Lassiter of Washington; and one granddaughter.
Robert L. Cherry
RALEIGH - Robert L. "Buster" Cherry, a native of Bertie County, died Jan. 31, 2002.
A funeral was conducted Monday at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, Windsor.
Burial was in the Cherry family cemetery.
Haywood Funeral Home was in charge.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Cherry; children, Barbara and Gregory Cherry; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Shirley T. Ferguson
ROANOKE RAPIDS - Shirley T. Ferguson, 64, died Feb. 3, 2002, at PMH, Greenville.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, is in charge.
Charles H. Wood
SUFFOLK, Va. - Charles H. Wood, 86, a native of Hertford County, died Feb. 2, 2002, at his home.
He was the widower of Annie Marie Wood.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Thursday at Tabernacle Christian United Church of Christ by Dr. Carlton Upton Sr.
Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home of Alex and Estelle Jones, 3724 Nansemond Parkway and will assemble there at 11 a.m. for the procession on Thursday.
Peebles Funeral Home is in charge.
Wood retired from Norfolk Naval Air Station after 36 years and was a WWII Army veteran.
He was a member of Tabernacle Christian United Church of Christ where he served on the Senior Usher Board.
Survivors include two daughters, Princetta Bowman and Cora Lee Wood, both of Baltimore, Md.; a stepson, Horace Harrington of Laurinburg; four sisters, Martha Morings and Elizabeth Green, both of Chesapeake, Estella Jones and Emma Cross, both of Suffolk; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Thomas Boone
NORFOLK, Va. - Thomas Boone, a native of Como, died Feb. 3, 2002, at his residence.
A graveside service will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Oakland Cemetery, Hampton.
The remains will be ready for viewing Thursday from 3:30 to 6 p.m.
The family will assemble at Carlos A. Howard Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, at 11:15 a.m. for the procession.
Boone was a retired truck driver.
Survivors include four sisters, Barbara Boone and Anna Kindred, both of Suffolk, Eva Goodman of Maryland, Va. and Leslie Ward of Como; and two brothers, Wayne Taylor of Como and James Bell Jr. Suffolk.
Dorothy O. Knight
GATES - Dorothy Otelia Knight, 67, a native of Gates County, died Jan. 26, 2002, at her residence.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at New Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. James K. Brown.
Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.
Survivors include her husband, Robert C. Knight; children, David E. Knight, Sr. and Michael A. Knight, both of Gatesville, Carver E. Knight of Wolfpoint, MT, Sharion K. Boone of Gates and Brenda B. Boone of Edenton; sister, Adola Hyman of Torrance, Calif.; a brother, Authur Hall Jr. of Fayetteville; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
William S. Haste
WINDSOR - William Sidney Haste, 81, a native of Bertie County, died Jan. 25, 2002, at his home.
A graveside funeral was conducted Monday at Edgewood Cemetery by the Rev. Dennis Conner and the Rev. Jack Byrd.
Military honors were observed. Walker Funeral Home was in charge.
Memorial gifts may be made to the American Legion Post, 37, c/o Ira Cutrell, 704 Gatling St., Windsor, NC, 27983.
Haste was a member of Cashie Baptist Church, the American Legion Post 37, the VFW and the Cashie Cook Club.
He was also a self-employed service technician and served during WWII in the Army Air Force.
Survivors include his wife, Lenora Street Haste; a daughter, Brenda H. Styons of Roper; a son, Bill Haste of Durham; two sisters, Mary Haste and Margaret Haste, both of Windsor; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Amanda G. Harrell
GATESVILLE - Amanda Gail Harrell, 19, a native of Gates County, died Jan. 24, 2002.
A graveside service was conducted Sunday at Eure Christian Church Cemetery by the Rev. Gene Asbill and the Rev. Wayne Gardner.
Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, was in charge.
Because of her love for animals we ask that you adopt a pet or make a contribution in her memory to the Roanoke-Chowan SPCA or to Eure Christian Church.
Amanda was currently a student at Roanoke-Chowan Community College and was also a part time employee with Ahoskie Animal Clinic.
Survivors include her parents, Marshall and Connie Eure Harrell; a brother, Jason Harrell of the home; her maternal grandmother, Erma D. Eure of Gatesville and her paternal grandparents, Raymond and Ethel Cale of Colerain.
Henry Wiggins
LEWISTON - Henry Wiggins, died Jan. 22, 2002.
A funeral was conducted Sunday at Springhill Baptist Church, Lewiston.

Imogene C. Pittman
CHESAPEAKE, Va. - Imogene Castello Pittman, 71, a native of Colerain, died Jan. 24, 2002.
She was the widow of Richard L. Pittman Sr.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, by the Rev. Charles Moseley.
Burial will be in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens.
Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Great Bridge Baptist Church Building Fund.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Mrs. Pittman was a homemaker and a member of Great Bridge Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Hazel P. Todd and Susan D. Withers; two sons, Richard L. Pittman Jr. and Jesse S. Pittman; four sisters, Joni Ward of Virginia Beach, Lilly Justice and Helen Perry, both of Colerain, and Wanda Cichon of New York; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
