MURFREESBORO - Lucille Brimage, 81, a native of Northampton County, died Jan. 16, 2002, at her residence.
A funeral was conducted Sunday at First Baptist Church Murfreesboro by the Rev. Robert Richardson.
Burial was in Carver Park Cemetery.
Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc., Murfreesboro, was in charge.
Survivors include a son, Filmore Brimage of Modesto, Calif.; a daughter, Shelia Brimage of Murfreesboro; and a sister, Ruth Rowlette of Petersburg, Va.
Ruby O. Charles
ROXOBEL - Ruby O. Charles, 81, a native of Bertie County, died Jan. 17, 2002, at Guardian Care Nursing Home.
A funeral was conducted Sunday at Sandy Branch Baptist Church by the Rev. Lycurgus Harrell.
Burial was in the church cemetery. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, was in charge.
Survivors include two sons, Willie Charles of Murfreesboro and James Waddell Charles of Paterson, N.J.; two daughters, Ruby Anderson and Francis A. Charles, both of Paterson; and a host of grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
Paul Eure
RODUCO - Paul Eure, 93, died Jan. 16, 2002.
A funeral was conducted Sunday at Stone Branch Baptist Church. Gates County Community Funeral Home was in charge.
Mary B. Gard
NORFOLK, Va. - Mary Bryant Gard, 86, a native of Woodland, died Jan. 17, 2002, at a local hospital.
She was the widow of Harvey Lee Gard Sr.
A funeral was conducted Sunday at Cornerstone Baptist Church by the Rev. Fred Braswell.
Interment was in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2730 Ellsmere Ave., Norfolk, VA 23502 or the Tidewater Aids Crisis Task Force, 9229 Granby St., 2nd Floor, Norfolk, VA 23503.
H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk Chapel, was in charge.
Mrs. Gard was a teacher and head of the English Department at Norview High School for 36 years.
She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Sylvia Williams of Bluefield, W.Va.; a sister, Patricia Liverman of Woodland; a brother, Charles Bryant of Smithfield; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Thurman G. Bunch
GATES - Thurman Glenn Bunch, 96, a native of Gates County, died Jan. 15, 2002, at Down East Health and Rehab.
He was the widower of Ethelyn Liverman Bunch.
A funeral was conducted Wednesday at Reynoldson Baptist Church by the Rev. Billy Presley.
Burial was in the church cemetery. Harrell Funeral Home, Gatesville, was in charge.
Bunch was a member of Reynoldson Baptist Church and retired from the State Highway Dept. of Virginia.
Survivors include two sons, Thurman L. Bunch of Gatesville and Maxey Bunch of Bath; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Geraldine Brown
LEWISTON - Geraldine Brown, 65, a native of Bertie County, died Jan. 21, 2002, at BMH, Windsor.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Kelford, by the Rev. Cornell Watson.
Burial will be in the church cemetery. Cherry’s Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.
She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church, Kelford.
Survivors include two daughters, Paulette Peterson ad Dianese Riddick; two sons, Larry Brown and Vincent Earl Brown; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Eunice M. Overton
MURFREESBORO -Eunice M. Overton, 77, a native of Suffolk, Va., died Jan. 21, 2002, at RCH, Ahoskie.
A graveside service was conducted Wednesday at Highland Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Tommy Kiker.
Garrett Funeral Home was in charge.
Mrs. Overton was a member of Center Grove Baptist Church, Ahoskie and was a waitress at Manhattan Café and Tomahawk Restaurant until they closed.
Survivors include her husband, Henry S. Overton of Hexlena, two sons, Henry S. Overton Jr. of Ft. Pierce, Fla., and James Overton of Murfreesboro; three sisters, Lucille Nichols, Cordelia Davis and Edith Nichols, all of Ahoskie; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
L. Hunter Eure
EURE - Lankford Hunter Eure, 85, a native of Gates, died Jan. 21, 2002, at Down East Health and Rehab, Gatesville.
He was the widower of Ruby Joyner Eure.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Cool Spring Baptist Church by the Rev. Tommy Hayes and the Rev. Forrest Guthrie.
Masonic rites will be accorded by Gatesville Lodge.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, is in charge.
Eure retired from the Naval Air Station in Norfolk, Va., as an aircraft mechanic and a member of Cool Spring Baptist Church and its Adult Sunday School Class and Gatesville Masonic Lodge #126.
He was also a member of Hall Ruritan Club, and the Gatesville Senior Citizens.
He had served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Linda Eure Carter of Sunbury and Elaine Eure Driggins of Eure; three sisters, Mecie Byrum of Corapeake, Lillian Taylor and Linda "Sugar" Eure, both of Eure; and a granddaughter.
Mollie M. Hadwin
PENSACOLA, Fla. - Mollie Riddick Hadwin, a native of Hertford, died Jan. 20, 2002, at her home.
She was the widow of Travis Ray Hadwin Sr.
A service was conducted Wednesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church by the Rev. Robert Rupp.
Burial was in Barrancas National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Lutheran School and Library Fund and the L.W.M.L.
Oak Lawn Funeral Home, Pensacola, Fla., was in charge.
Mrs. Hadwin was a charter member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and School.
After her retirement as church and school secretary for Redeemer Lutheran Church, she worked with the Council on Aging and the Foster Grandparents Program.
Survivors include a son, Travis Ray Hadwin of Pensacola; four daughters, Barbara Svigilin and Pat Risha Macbeth, both of Pensacola, Sue Trew of Claremont and Joan Guerin of Birmingham, Ala.; four sisters, Betty Baines of Gatesville, Priscilla Jones and Hannah Riddick, both of Suffolk, and Janice R. Fogarty of Knoxville, Tenn. 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Margaret T. Booth
GATESVILLE - Margaret T. Boothe, 79, a native of Gates County, died Jan. 20, 2002, in Down East Health and Rehabilitation Center.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Zion Tabernacle Baptist Church, Corapeake.
Burial will be in the church cemetery. T.E. Cooke-Overton Funeral Home is in charge.
She was a retired seamstress and a member of Zion Tabernacle Baptist Church, Corapeake.
Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Morris of Suffolk, Va., Mary Albernathy of St. Albans, NY, and Brenda Knight of Dover, Del.; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
